That looks like such a great astro location. Nellie and I have actually been to the top of that cave. Wonder if with the proper tides you could camp in there. Assuming it stays dry enough.
I don't think I've ever seen a kayak which can fit in a backpack before. The cave looked really impressive! I'm glad you got there before everyone else did!
That was an absolutely epic short adventure👍🏻Astro here would be next level, I could see myself camping there from night to day to night to timelapse it
I take photos on my kayak all the time, get a Hobie kayak, it is foot pedal so you can fish and take pictures while you are on it, and it is way faster than the oar ones for ocean. Also look into the Inrigo camera bag, it is pretty much a lifejacket plus waterproof bag.
Wow, surprisingly so many highly trained canoe experts watch your channel! lol Loved the vlog. the photos were excellent, too. The stitched one was fantastic.
Cool video, I can see the next one being I bought the r5 because the eos R is at the bottom of ocean. Make sure you’ve got enough air in your dry bag for it to float or add a float. Enjoyed the adventure beautiful location.
Put your camera bag in a dry bag and tether it to the kayak in case of capsize. That way you are not putting yourself at risk having it on your back. You could also consider a footpump or if you don't want to expend the energy a cordless rechargeable pump. Enjoy.
You know Brendan, I'm from the Algarve and always wanted to go there and do some shooting, specially astro, but never did. Mainly because ppl tell me it's always overcrowded... maybe after midnight it'll be a good time???? :D
been there.... sadly to late... cave was full with tourists. I always wanted to time another visited to coincide with the sun setting or risng right outside the cave-openings... But for some reason life happened and I forgot all about it.
nice photos but...no life vest and a kayak that does not appear to be fully inflated and "hitting the open sea" then having ago at swimmers without life vests.
@@BrendanvanSon I swam with my 5yo daughter on my back and her small inflatable board for support. I went again later in the day on a rented kayak. Check your instagram messages. I'm a local photographer and have tried reaching you through insta
before you started talking about making it a pano shot I was like why don't you just do a pano to get it all in the photo lol. that ocean looked nice and calm for a paddle , I live on the shuswap lake in BC and its not even that calm most of the time haha.
Referencing your recent safety video... When I shot that cave, there was a guy standing on the rim of the "skylight", looking down! I don't think he realised he was standing on just a thin ledge. Be safe!
mate really cool video so thank you. Dont worry about not having a life jacket.... you were an honorary Aussie for the day, we say just see what happens lol. Famous last words "hold my beer, watch this" - Loved that first photo too.
Love to kayak and have only recently begun to trust myself with a camera out while in the water. Definitely worth it on some paddles. Great location and awfully nice of someone to walk that perfect line of footprints for you. On a secondary note, I’m not one to begrudge you some income and maybe it wasn’t in your control, but a 12 minute sponsored video with 4 ad breaks is a bit much.
The stitched image at 08:00 turned out good. The kayak adds to it for sure.
I've done the tourist cave boat trips from Carvoeiro right along that coast to Marinha beach. Benagil cave left me close to tears its so awesome

Cool, My beautiful COUNTRY. Nice Photos. Enjoy your time in there. Hope if all goes well I will be there soon
Thanks Vitor. Hope you get here!

Come out this way some time, we'll go on an adventure.
Beautiful day for you in Portugal. I love the smile on your face! Great photos. The only thing missing is a life jacket :)
First thing that came to my mind, like almost everyone else .. Lifejacket. Glad to see you've bought one. Cool spot though.
Yup. That was silly on my part.
I take photos on my kayak all the time, get a Hobie kayak, it is foot pedal so you can fish and take pictures while you are on it, and it is way faster than the oar ones for ocean. Also look into the Inrigo camera bag, it is pretty much a lifejacket plus waterproof bag.

Think I'd have a life jacket on with that camera gear in the kayak. But what a cool spot those caves were.
Yup, I should have. For some reason, it didn't even cross my mind. Just bought one online.
Canadians wear life jackets in canoes/kayaks - especially when travelling in inflatable boats for the first time. :-) Be safe out there.
Yup, you're all DEFINITELY right. Total oversight on my part. Don't know how I forgot...
Great job mate, loved the pano.
Great video from a amazing place at the Algarve. I was two times there. But you have the luck to be there alone in the morning. Great 👍
Holy crap that cave is amazing...can’t wait to see the astrophotography video! :)
LIFE JACKET! More air in that thing.
An uplifting little adventure just around the corner, how about that :)

Wing it in the ocean... words that should never be used together!
What an incredible location man. Thanks for that video 👌👌
Great video! And what a location! I was on that beach about 3 years ago, but unfortunately didn't go to the cave. With a cayak it must be epic!
Good timing, good photos.

That cave looks cool, what did you use to stich the photos and maybe a vid showing how 😀
Beautiful place!
Definitely was!
Put some air in the holes 🙄😁👍 Nice work Brendan. Hope that you are enjoying to live in Portugal!!!
Haha. You can't say it without it sounding wrong. Lol
I think that your kayak needed more air. Loved the photos, especially the pano.
It did. But, the mechanics of filling it are strange. Makes it hard to get more air in.
You know Brendan, I'm from the Algarve and always wanted to go there and do some shooting, specially astro, but never did. Mainly because ppl tell me it's always overcrowded... maybe after midnight it'll be a good time???? :D
Love the new camera bag.
haha, it's pretty epic.
Great location for a 12mm lens, fisheye or rectangular. Nevermind the missing life jacket, how's the gear? :)
I've been here twice! And just got back a week ago! This is crazy when I saw the title haha I have a photography vlog of this cave coming soon too!
Nice! What time of day did you get there?
Looks beautiful, only thing is I've been watching "SharkFest" on the National Geographic Channel🦈😱 On the ocean in an inflatable kayak 😲🛶
kayaks + shark week don't get along. haha
Always tough on doing that in a paddle board - great to see the results
Withough camera gear, it'd be fun though!
Looking forward to the astro vlog.
Surprised you haven't visited this earlier :p
been there.... sadly to late... cave was full with tourists. I always wanted to time another visited to coincide with the sun setting or risng right outside the cave-openings... But for some reason life happened and I forgot all about it.
Excellent video enjoyed this brendan
Thanks Mark!
@@BrendanvanSon looks like a perfect place you have moved too 😊
if you see wrinkles in the kayak and you don't have a pensioner with you, it needs more air
derekmackphotography Bahaha 😂
Yep.... I'm jealous.
Sorry!
@@BrendanvanSon You shouldn't be! You've worked hard and taken risks to be where you are.
Beautiful cave photos. Have you and Jodie gotten settled in your apartment?
Still no. Ugh. Maybe next week!
have you got a link to the dry bag?
I had to ask myself if I would go out with just a dry bag... Nope! 👍👍👍
nice photos but...no life vest and a kayak that does not appear to be fully inflated and "hitting the open sea" then having ago at swimmers without life vests.
Went out last night to get so e astro shots but the moon was to bright, but i was focused more on the low level clouds that we had at night
More flotation for the camera dry bag 😉
was there last weekend
How did you get into the cave? Tour? Paddle board?

And you don't have to watch it for the ogopogo here. Lol
The Fiat 500 is small enough you could put it in the kayak 🤣 Great location!!
HAHAHAH. So true.
'I'm just going to wing it in the ocean in the morning...' after all what could go wrong with a kayak full of camera gear in the sea?
Exactly. So glad you agree. :D

You can actually go up there and there's a barrier. I've looked down. It is less "sketchy" looking from the top.
I am just going to wing it, that is my default:)
haha, that's the best default.
Grest from italy
theres a cave thats only accessable at low tide if you paddle to the right that is nicer than Benagil cave
I need to get back to the cost!
Nothing better!
Life jacket, bro! You take a lot of unnecessary chances. Yes, I'm old and I'm wagging my finger. 😝
Wag away. Honestly don't know why I didn't think of a life jacket... It was a really poor oversight on my part. Have already bought one.
@@BrendanvanSon great. Live and learn. Emphasis on live.
Anyone else thinking try the kayak out before you load it with your gear. haha
Me!

Get a soft rack for the top of the car, pump up the night before expedition
What's a man doing looking at the instruction manual for anything? lol
you should shoot that again at night, milky way through the holes
just got to the end of the vid lol

UA-cam did that automatically. I don't know what they've done. I'm trying to fix the settings manually. Crazy how ad wild they've gone.
Your comment that the swimmers should have had life jackets *facepalm* 🤪
I know. Hahaha. I face palmed myself watching back. Hahaha. I have no idea where my brain was.
My wife was talking to me 2 days ago that we have to go to the Benagil Cave. I asked her "Honey, do you have a boat?" And you came with the answer.
I don’t know how brendan keeps outdoing himself?
It's the obscene amount of candy I eat.
@Brendan van Son it better be snickers or KitKats!
Yeah...not jealous at all. Not. At. All. 😢
kayak ? no thank you ! I don't trust the laws of physics and my body to enjoy the ride :D
Fair enough! haha. Personally, I love it.
@@BrendanvanSon but i'm glad others can do than and access some amazing places :)
No life jackets....
Just worried about your safety
