NEW 2024 Ford Mustang GT3 Testing at Misano Circuit - 5.4-Litre Naturally Aspirated V8 Engine Sound!

- I finally enjoyed seeing the new 2024 Ford Mustang GT3 in action during a Kateyama test day at the Misano Adriatico circuit. The car belongs to the Italian Dinamic GT team, and the plan is to use it in the 2024 GT World Challenge Europe season. For Ford Performance, this is the second team, after the Proton Competition (team for the FIA World Endurance Championship in the LMGT3 class), to use the cars created from the collaboration with Multimatic and M-Sport. Based on the 2024 Mustang Dark Horse road model, it adopts a modified 5.4-litre naturally aspirated Coyote V8 engine moved by a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox, a six-speed sequential Xtrac. We also find carbon fibre body panels and a robust aerodynamic package. Enjoy! 😉
Ho finalmente avuto il piacere di vedere la nuova 2024 Ford Mustang GT3 in azione durante una giornata di test Kateyama presso il circuito di Misano Adriatico. L'auto appartiene al team italiano Dinamic GT ed il progetto è quello di impiegarla nella stagione 2024 del GT World Challenge Europe. Per Ford Performance dunque si tratta del secondo team, dopo Proton Competition (squadra per il FIA World Endurance Championship nella classe LMGT3) ad impiegare le vetture nata dalla collaborazione con Multimatic and M-Sport. Costruita sulla base del modello stradale Mustang Dark Horse 2024 adotta un motore modificato Coyote V8 da 5,4 litri aspirato mosso da un cambio transaxle montato posteriormente, si tratta si XTrac sequenziale a sei rapporti. With cars like this, and the Lexus RCF, and also the screaming Lamborghini and Porsche at le mans, the Ferrari 296 GT3 is really going to be an underwhelming sound compared to these roaring down the mulsanne
As I have written several times, the Ferrari 296 GT3 is a fantastic and very competitive car, but the sound is disappointing; it's too quiet to be a racing car... I understand that it has a Twin-Turbo engine, but in terms of sound, this is a real shame; it's much less exciting to hear than the competitors...
I love GT3 specifically because we can have things like this. It seems to just be the same boring small turbo engines everywhere else.

When I filmed the car in this video it was still in the development phase, I think that all that movement of the rear wing was partly corrected.

yes, you can visually see that the car tends to skid. There is certainly more work to be done and continued development ahead of the 2024 season 👍

This thing looks like a HANDFUL. Sounds the absolute part and looks GREAT also. Favorite GT3 car by far. Hope it gets added in ACC.
I watched the video of the new Vette and that definitely looked like it handles better. Still early tho, these guys have plenty of time to work on that
Test day one... It's test for a reason. Look at all the Formula 1 cars, by the end of the season they can return to the first race and do it all over again and seconds will be gained.
People underestimate the challenge from “sports cars”, that are mid or rear engine to the different techniques required for front engine. So many young drivers think everything should drive like a Porsche. Their entries are off. Their exits are off. The car doesn’t react the way most European drivers are trained to drive. Panoz struggled with years ago in the American LeMans series. It’s a learning curve maybe this team hasn’t overlooked. That car is going to pitch more like an American cup car rather than a European GT.
would be nice to try in ACC but I doubt it they are focused on adding nordschleife which I would take over the car any day lol
@@getinit56 yeah but there are plenty FR cars in GT racing for quite a while now (Aston Martin Vantage, Mercedes AMG GT, Bentley Continental, Corvette C7, Dodge Viper). I think the issue is more of a fine tunning thing rather than working your way around a FR platform.

I agree. When Chevy got back into Indycar in the 80s I think it was it was awesome. I was at MIS, (Michigan International Speedway), then and the Ford Cosworths would 'zoom' by. The, and I think it was Penske which teamed up with Chevy, cars 'roared' by with that classic V-8 rumble. You could close your eyes and know they were coming!
This sound is so powerful that you can actually FEEL IT not just hear it.

Check out the Ford GT track cars they made(may still be making actually, gotta be close to the end of the run; seems like these really went under peoples radar), GT MkII & MkIV - they have all the aero!

The diffuser on this car really isn't that big. The Ford GT GTE was but it was due to the car being so low and long. The Porsche RSR GTE had a massive diffuser from 2018 and on. It was so big they had to get the ok from FIA to move the engine forward so it would work. The last RSR GTE was actually a mid engine car but was still called a rear engine. Look at the 2020 and up Porsche RSR GTE/GTLM Pro cars
You should see the diffusers on the early Ford GT GT1 cars from ‘05

Sembra che abbia il retrotreno non “collegato” con l’avenatreno creando della instabilità in percorrenza ed uscita di curva ( basta vedere quante volte appena prima di saltare su un cordolo la macchina faccia dei movimenti laterali improvvisi )
Bisogna vedere se i vari team che compreranno la vettura dell’ovale blu siano in grado di assettarla e capirla prima dei vari campionati

Only if someone was covering Z4 GT3's mouth. But when you now have complete unremarkable cards like the Ferraris and the new BMWs, the Mustang is a nice addition. Just imagine if it was the Voodoo V8 instead of the Coyote..

Definitely still needs some entry stability work; It seems the front has tons of grip. But this thing is going to be a weapon soon.
It looked like it was suffering from under steer to me, thus exceeding track limits as opposed to oversteer with the rear end coming round.

The 5.4 N/A deserves to live again under the hood of a new street-legal Mustang.
It would be bonkers if they made a new version standing above the Dark Horse and below the GTD. Something with some 600-620 hp...N/A.
It'd probably have to rev close to 9k to make over 600hp N/A. Would be sick but I doubt that'll be possible from a 5.4 V8 built for mass production.

And thinking about it, the C8 Corvette Z06 achieves 670 hp from 5.5L and "only" 8600 rpm...besides the flatplane crank, of course.
But it would be absolutely bonkers to have a Nascar-sounding Mustang from factory, revving to 9k rpm with a crossplane crank.

@@Osaka_Ai That is the point. The C8 Z06 achieves 50-70 hp more than what I estimated above, with a flatplane crank and just 0.1L larger displacement.
In theory [at least] it's not impossible for Ford to make a 5.4L naturally aspirated with a crossplane crank achieve the 600/620-hp mark. It would be difficult, requiring more complex, precise and improved valvetrain, heads, intake and exhaust, maybe even a different bore and stroke to prioritize lower piston speed (shorter stroke, with larger bore to compensate the loss of displacement)...but it could be done.
Now, one interesting fact, since you mentioned the 458's V8. Using the Speciale as basis, so 605 hp from 4.5L of displacement.
Calculating the specific power output (horsepower divided by displacement), it achieves 134.4 hp per liter. I think it was the highest specific output Ferrari ever achieved for a street car; not even the mighty 812 Competizione, with its 830-hp 6.5L V12, doesn't reach that, with "only" 127.7 hp per liter.
The C8 Z06's 5.5L V8 with 670 hp has 121.8 hp per liter. Had GM managed to reach the same specific output as Ferrari did with the 458 Speciale...we'd be seeing the LT6 engine putting out almost 740 hp (!)...

Jeez that thing seems mighty wild exiting those corners, the back end kept wanting to step out. Hopefully they can tame the beast before next years season starts. I'd imagine chevy will be at a bit of an advantage considering I'm sure they were able to take a lot of what they learned with the c8 gte and imsa c8 gt3, carrying over useful data to their gt3 zo6, unlike ford which is pretty much brand new to the game. But I really hope they will be neck and neck competitive. I think I prefer the low pitch rumble of the ford to chevys high revving ferrari sounding v8
The sound of this V8 is magnificent; there is no doubt about that. I don't have huge expectations for this Mustang in 2024; it's a new car, and they need to develop it. Indeed, 2025 will be the right season for them. Despite everything, I hope they can have some good races immediately next year 😉👍

Ford Multimatic Motorsport will also enter 2 Mustangs in the GTD Pro class of the IMSA Sports Car Championship as a direct factory team, racing debut will be at the 24h of Daytona at the end of January.

There were other American Manufacturers in European GT Races. Corvette and Dodge Viper comes to mind. And of course Ford’s Super Car. The Ford GT. But I do believe this is a first for the Mustang it self? 🤔

Very unlikely...they won't be able to produce enough cars at first. They already will enter 2 cars in WEC (if the entry is accepted), 2 in IMSA, this one for GT World Challenge Europe and if I remember correctly, they will also enter GT World Challenge America. Maybe 2025...who knows?
Also dont forget the cars sound crap in the British GT due to the noise limits.

In the USA for 2024 you can buy this GT3 and it`s street legal except it has 250 more horses than the one that will race in WEC, 300,000 dollars, crazy.
I like how the wing sways back and forth like a chandelier hanging from chains. That’s a nice touch.
Noticed that too, not so sure that's a good thing. You can see how lively, to put it mildly, the rear end is. Seems right now this thing is a hand full.

I got nothing to compare it to. But I looks like it’s hauling ass. I see no reason that it can’t be a successful car to campaign. I’ve always thought that naturally aspirated decent sized V8 would be preferable to a over pressurized high strung 4 or 6.

I love all types of sounds, especially the high-pitched ones coming from V12 engines and, even better, the epic ones from the beautiful F1s of a few years ago. I'm a big fan of naturally aspirated V8 engines, and this Mustang GT3 sounds nice.👍

Have you ever heard, V8, V10 or V12 shorter, stroke, race cars at speed in person?
The sound is more musical and has much more dynamic range throughout its rev range than longer stroke, larger bore V8’s.
Once you hear the others, there’s no comparison

I confirm that the car seemed fast to me, too. They are developing it, but I don't think there are any restrictions.
I don't think they have to strictly conform to regulations, but as far as the engine is concerned, it doesn't make a lot of sense to run with the engine and exhaust out of regulations? One of the key things is reliability and they would want to run it as close to final spec to test the parts.@@Italiansupercarvideo

@@roehltransport7795 They wouldn't be running it out of spec, and this car hadn't even competed yet so there'd be no intake restrictor determined for it. The reliability and testing is already done before the cars are ready to be sold to teams such as this one.

I hope this car will be at Sebring 2024. Consequently the Street Mustang 5.0 is starting to grow back on me.. I had a 91 fox body GT and it was fun for what it was and the things you could do to it but that was when I was in my 30’s and quite a bit older now and was looking on purchasing a Camaro 1le but I must say that the new Mustangs are fantastic and seeing this isn’t helping me say no to it. lol 😄

Wow looks like a ton of power but handling issues for sure....the GT3-R Corvette seems more stable but less powerful. That Mustang is a handful. I am looking forward to 2024.

What I like most about GT3 is the regulation that make almost every type car can enter the race. more than that is GT300 which add JAF category into it.
It is really something to drive a car to the edge of its & your ability.

I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that this is even 10% as good as a Porsche...cuz it's most definitely not! :) this is Mustang another car waiting for itself to be wrapped around a lamp post.
I don't think anyone thinks it's better than Porsche, but everyone expects it to be competitive. I never take anything for granted and if Ford has decided to create a GT3 car I don't think it wants to enter this sector only as a participant but will do so to obtain concrete results.
The sound of this thing downshifting for a corner will definitely be living rent free in my head for awhile

Back to the drawing board! If this is the example they are putting out there it’s subpar. That car is all over the place and handles like a covered wagon. This would be a track hazard and a safety issue for any other car that shares the track. Unless Ford steps up their game dialing in these cars they will be VERY unpopular with the teams they share the track with when they enter the Fanatec series.
I'm not sure what you mean...have you seen the video? As you can see, it's a solid race car. GT3 cars are basically like prototypes, real racing cars. They derive from the production model, but the rest are completely different cars except for the engine and bodywork layout. Don't worry; Ford is developing an excellent vehicle for competition.
Apparently Chevrolet's Garage 56 LeMans entry made Ford get up off the couch and build their own endurance car - good news for us racing fans! At least there is a series where we can see and hear cars not using electric motors!
