When you've got no annual leave left at work, but still fancy an escape to the most sparsely populated country in Europe, easyJet makes it possible! I left Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon and was back late on Sunday. It was however November - so of 24 hours on the ground, only 6 were in daylight. Was it worth it? Find out right here!

Just watching this for the first time. I much prefer your current narrative style and interesting observations as you explore new places. ❤
I’d love to see the Iceland footage at normal speed. Looked stunning!!
Yeah Samantha - I'd certainly do the video differently next time, but that means there's an excuse for a next time :D
Here Here
Hover your cursor over the video, In the lower right corner will be a 'gear' wheel for settings. Click it. Click playback speed. Choose how fast or slow you want the video to go. I just found that yesterday.
@@steve-marsh Your videos much better theses days more talking compare to 4 years ago.
Slow down the speed YT plays it at. Top right of screen, press and select the little cog, then select playback speed.
Iceland is definitely worth going back to Steve, we loved it there and went just before they stopped all flights due to the volcano eruption.
We had a friend (luckily) who lived there (she's moved to Canada now) and she picked us up and we stayed with her in her flat in the central part. She took us all around showing us the area, and it's awesome. Thanks for the video 🥰
Thank you from San Diego, Calif, USA
It's funny you did the same as I do , thanking the staff for a great flight on the way off the plane . I've been invited in the cockpit by the pilot because of that. So cool chatting to the flight crew. Thankyou for sharing :)
When we fly Icelandair to Norway, it is obvious they put our layover into Iceland, but darn we should stay a few nights coming or going, as it does looks pretty nice. I would also love to see that old plane relic that stands out in no man's land. Some of the architecture looks like that in Norway. Thank you for the video!
Was so lucky to be part of a school trip to Iceland , loved it .
Nice video! You’re trip reports are getting really good 👍🏻.
NYC Flyer that’s really kind of you to say! Thank you!!! :)
I love the videos, anytime my dad and I were back we would walk from Old Kilpatrick to Bowling, visiting a few pubs on the way out and all the rest on the way back. My dad has been gone 6 years, but I love the memories. I miss Scotland and cant wait to bring my wife here.
Thanks so much for the message mate! Memories are so precious!
@@steve-marsh One of our favorites was Stirling.
Thank you. I managed a 7 day holiday in Iceland just before Covid hit the planet. Beautiful scenery and snow too in November. Your video brought backsome memories. Well done.
What a place eh? I’d love to spend that long there!
Great video... Nice Canada Hockey toque... Cheers from Toronto!
Greg Chong-Hon cheers for watching Greg! Visited Toronto a few times and always loved it! Need to get back there soon with camera rolling :)
@@steve-marsh - Excellent... Some plane-spotting sounds like fun!
n n wow, that’s amazing to hear! Thank you so much for the continued support! Can’t wait to get out there again and spend some of my last money getting that industry going again! All the best to you and your family!
Came up here for my Honeymoon back in 2017. One of our best holidays. Iceland is a truly magical place and the Northern Lights were spectacular.
So glad you enjoyed it! I’ve seen the northern lights in Norway - unforgettable experience eh!?
Can I just say...I absolutely adored that old fashioned fire hydrant in Iceland !
What a blast ( pardon the pun) from the past !
It's amazing, ( apart from the volcano) just how flat Iceland seems to be.
You got a lot of filming down, too.
Kudos for having downloaded some "Bald and Bankrupt" to watch, he has been to some amazing places !
Nice vid! I go up to Iceland quite often for work (I know, super lucky!) . Its not that expensive, stay in Air bnb or get on Google maps for a deal. Better if you can cook for yourself (go to Bonus). Easy jet or play air (icelands version of easy jet) are cheap, use airport transfer buses, and public buses to get out the city or a tour if you can afford it. Have loads of tips if you ever go back!
This was fun to see...going to Iceland early 2024 as part of a cruise...since I don't like heat this looks ik a perfect destination for me 👍👍
Oh I'm so jealous! Would love to go on a cruise around those parts, I'll need to research similar :) I'm the same with heat, give me a cold destination ANY day :)
Thank you for filming your trip. I have wanted to go to Iceland for ages, and especially now being in very , very hot and humid USA
WELCOME TO COOL AND FRESH SCANDINAVIA TOO. LIKE ICELAND FIRST, THEN NORWAY, THEN SWEDEN AND THEN DENMARK. YOU WILL NEVER REGRET
It’s one of my all time favorite countries. We are very lucky as we can fly from Seattle, stop over for a few days, then on to the UK.
Yeah agree, it’s a perfect transatlantic stopover! But then Seattle ain’t so bad either :)
Oh wow, you’re a ginger haha. I started following you a year or so ago and your videos since then show a shorn head. You live in a wonderful country. I hope to return to Edinburgh in March
Really enjoyed your videos and especially your soothing Scottish accents!!!
Chao Zheng thanks so much! Really nice of you to leave that comment :) Have a great day!
SteveMarsh you’re welcome. Do you get to travel every weekend?
Chao Zheng I try to get away somewhere every 2 weeks, but often not worthy of a video :) next trip will be end of Feb - an exciting one :)
@@steve-marsh Scottish accent is great however for someone who manages only school english (rp i mean) is quite difficult. Subtitles could help!
I loved Iceland when i went for 5 days in June 2009. Loved the nearly 24 hours of sunlight. Subscribed recently. Just now going through a selection of your videos. All good stuff.
This popped up on my UA-cam opening page. My, have you improved. This was fine, but I enjoy hearing your thoughts and hearing your descriptions. Glad you are still at it.
That was fun Steve... I went from Toronto to Iceland back in June and it was amazing!!! The 24 hours of daylight!!! :):):)
I was there for a week had a ball...:):):)
Amazing! I really need to go back and make a proper video there. Couldn't afford a week, but in summer, who needs a hotel eh with all that sunlight :D
The one day trip was great idea!
We also say "psi psi" to call a cat in Greece 😺
Giorgos Glinis haha awesome, I’ll use it to speak to them next time I’m in Greece 😆 thanks for watching! 👍🏼
Excellent video, I love that you show all aspects of the flight, not just out the window filming, plus the destination too. I've subscribed too 👍👍
Gary The Happy Wanderer thanks so much for the support! Super-appreciated!
Dude. Your life is awesome. Motivating me to move back to UK. Been on a long long ‘safari’ in the colonies. Your channel is doing more good than you may realize. Many of us expats really need this…A pint on me if we meet in future
I'll hold you to that :)
As an Ulsterman in Africa...longer than my time in the UK....I would just like to offer my personal advice.
Yes, the grass is always greener on the other side (especially if You're Irish)...but my last infrequent trips back there...have been depressing.
I am caught up in too many memories of how it used to be.
Stay on safari.
Whoops...too late?
Red beans and lentils from Kaapstad
Another great video Steve. Keep up the good work.
james king thanks James! Just wish I could go outside! More content soon I hope :)
The good thing about not having a Jet bridge is you can give the plane a pre flight check before boarding.
Looks like a long time since we can fly without face masks...and just has passed less than a year! Great video Steve! Thanks a lot!
I know eh! Travel with a mask is not so enjoyable - especially on a flight.
Best country in the world 😍 If you've never been to Akureyri try and go, it is a magical city and the flight from Reyky there (about 45 minutes) is a delight too
Oh cheers for the tip!
Now that's the quickest video clip you've made I guess Steve even though you didn't have much time properly
Have to agree with you regarding Iceland an amazing country. A couple of years ago I spent 3 days there seeing all the tourist sites. Very expensive.
I can imagine! Expense was part of the reason for my flying visit, would love to save up and spend more time there, also love the Faroe Islands, they are like Iceland before tourism. Cheers!
@@steve-marsh My trip to Iceland was in November. How do you think Iceland compares with Orkney as an interesting destination. My wife and I went up to Orkney last year and were due to go again this year. However that was cancelled so we are going again next June. Orkney not as expensive as Iceland and definitely not so cold.
Try Norway first then Iceland will feel like a bargain.
@@busking6292 ? What do you mean ? Weather or prizes ?
Wow. Such an interesting quick stop visit. Definitely a place now on my ever increasing bucket list. Thank you for sharing. 👏👏👍😎
Beautiful and Iceland has always been on my bucket list. Thank you for what you do best 🤗
Oh Laura, an early video, I really need to redo this one with a proper vlog :D
Visited Iceland back in December 2015 for an all expense included 6 day trip where I managed to see the Northern Lights, spend a day in the Blue Lagoon and then took the Circle Tour that included frozen waterfalls, the geysers, the Iceland pony show and seeing the lighted crosses in the cemeteries. This special no longer exists so I am glad that I took advantage of this whirlwind trip.
Would love to return in the summer someday!
Just discovered your channel, great videos , like your style, subscribed!
Andrew Gurney thanks so much!!! 👍🏼
Great Video - Love that Tuque Steve come to Toronto soon! We have 5,000 Tim Hortons to choose from among other things.😂
Iceland is an extraordinary country. The people are as wild and natural as the landscape - and very friendly. The language has words that have not changed in 1000 years. Blue Lagoon is a cliche but still great fun. A trip up onto the glacier is definitely worth it. There's a wonderful church at the top of a hill that has concerts. It is expensive for sure. Definitely worth another, longer visit.
wow...this video is so original and has unique features Steve !
I lived in Iceland for 25 years or so. The weather and winter time I dont miss. Visit Iceland in July. Rent a car and drive round the island.
I am catching up with your earlier videos and am enjoying them. I flew to London via Iceland in 2014 and stayed in Reykjavik for three nights on the return trip. I loved it. I knew from guidebooks that the locals spoke English but was surprised that they spoke it perfectly! I need to go back there, especially as the cool looking opera house was closed when I visited. ( I did manage to "Golden Circle tour of the most popular attraction )
Wow, would love to do the Golden Circle! It sure is a beautiful island, and a great stopover transatlantic! I wish I could afford to stay longer!
The smell of volcanic ash & the spurts of icy water 👌
Thanks for sharing your trips, You are lucky to have foreign countries close to home. Where i am in Cape Town is a long way from anywhere
Few of us make use of that geographical fact!
Thank you for the clip, interesting to see with your eyes. You should visit my homeland during the summer, when the nights are bright as a daytime, 24 hours daylight or even in the winter time to watch the northern lights dance in the night sky in all kinds of colors.
I really must come back soon and do a proper video, I've learned a lot more about filming/editing since this trip!
Thanks steve first time watching brilliant shall be watching more 🙋👍🤔🥃cheers
your vlogs bring back lots of great travel memories which i had over 6 years including iceland , like you i,m a solo traveller
Hey Steve, I love the Canada toque!
Paul Larcher haha well spotted!
Nearly 50 yrs ago I spent 3 winters fishing on Icelandic trawlers out of Reykjavik. The town in your ever so brief, jump-cut, shots was very familiar to me. And, yes, Iceland's best in winter.
Cheers Steve great video, your have to go back and show more of Iceland.
Very true!
A great one day excursion! Keep going, Steve.
Jack Hamilton cheers Jack! Already trying to find the next one!
Love your videos and they are great. Thanks, Steve.
Ahhh yes, the famed Edinburgh to Edinburgh flight. That's quite a short one as I recall.
Its actually a cool thing easyJet (used to) do called Fearless Flyer. Anyone with a fear of flying can go on a course in the morning about the safety of flying and coping techniques then in the afternoon they take you on a 45 minute flight 😊
I just love your clips ,,, very well done indeed !!
munnjean thanks very much! For watching and for the kind comment :)
Good video, very busy for you, but good information.
Nice video i slowed the playback speed down to watch the scenery in Rekyavic...😊😊😊😊.....on my long list!!
Well Steve. Thanks so much for showing us a bit of Iceland. It has confirmed to me that it is not a place I would ever want to visit especially in winter. Each to their own though! Thanks again
Why would you not want to go?
Beautiful! I'd definitely love to visit, I'd thought pre-covid of doing something similar, but renting a car and driving out to the wilderness to spot the Aurora!
Would love to do that too! Saw the Aurora in Northern Norway and it blew my mind!
Jesus Steve, we must be twins, a passion for flying and this guy too 3:53
Nice video mate.
Andrew Flyer haha cheers bro! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
That was a nice change of pace, Steve. I've never had a bad flight on EasyJet. My only flight with Icelandair was in 1968/9 when they were flying four engine turbo props between New York and London. It was a long flight but very comfortable with excellent service.
I do need to get back and film a proper video here though!
I too am a big fan and subscriber to the Bald and Bankrupt channel, Steve.
Great to hear Alun!
Another cracking video Steve! and another place added to my bucket list :-) Cheers
Well worth it, although 24hours about as much as I could afford! Good bargains with some research though
a trip report on that EZY6000 from Edinburgh to Edinburgh might be nice XD
Short but sweet,yay!
I really want to repeat this and do it properly!
Iceland is beautiful, it exceeded my expectations
As a Campbeltonian living in Canada, I love the Hockey Canada toque.
Cheers mate!
Nice quick trip to Iceland. How much did it cost on a return trip to Scotland. You guys sure do get the gulf stream benefits compared to us in Newfoundland. Next time you need a longer stay there to see more. Liked your Canadian hat/toque.
Love the hockey team Canada hat. Does this mean we will see you ice skating in an upcoming video?
Great footage Steve.
Visited both these great nations in 2020.....the year of the face mask, sanitizer & regular swabs in mouth & nose.
Iceland deserves more time than just an overnight stay...appreciate time & money constraints.
Edinburgh also.
You make fantastic vlogs, Steve
👌🏴 🇮🇸
Thanks so much! Yeah, I found a really cheap flight for this one and just went for it :) would love to return!
@@steve-marsh me also.....visited southern & western Iceland....would love to see the northern part, when normality allows. 🤞
You're a fan of Ben's, too! I knew there was a reason I started watching these lol. Too bad he's not as active. Love your channel.
He is a bit of a hero! And looks like he'll be back very soon :)
@@steve-marsh great to hear. I'm surprised you haven't met, yet.
One of these days I’ll checkout Iceland… looks awesome
I really want to redo this video now I am better at editing. A return visit overdue :)
Definition think it’s worth a do over… 👍🏻😁🤓
@@steve-marsh Yes, please do! I lived in Iceland back in the nineties for ten years. Better to go in the lighter months though. I didn't even recognise Keflavik airport. It was much smaller 30 years ago.
A quick hop over to Iceland to grab a new sweater (jumper).
Not far from North Pole in a way just a few miles or kilometers 😊
Am really enjoying your videos... thank you!
Glad you like them! Thanks so much!
Looked like a speedy but potentially interesting place to visit! Would love to go there 😊😊
I need to go back and do a proper video there now I'm a bit more competent :D
I visited on the ferry from Norway in 1900 then was lucky to work my passage on a fishing boat to Nuuk, Greenland. Doors open when alone. Greeting from Australia😅.
Steve Marsh watching B&B so cool
😎
Thanks for sharing!
Little Mountain Life and cheers to you for watching! :)
. . . and a Team Canada Hockey tuque, eh? Nice touch!! 😁
I did GLA - KEF back in 1980 on an Icelandair 727 and stayed with the girlfriends sister and husband on the US military base as her brother in law was a US Marine. He got a bit suspicious when I knew about 4 Peruvian AN-26's that staged through! Great memories :)
The FlyBus is very good - if you are staying at a hotel in town, you change at the bus station onto a minibus which takes you right to the door.
Good info cheers Geoff
Thanks Steve for sharing.
Cheers for coming along Richard!
Amazing video, you've just got yourself a new subscriber! I had great memories of Iceland come flooding back from my trip, its a magical, inspiring place that needs to be seen. Make sure you get back and do the Northern Lights Mystery Tour, its breathtaking! I also flew easyJet, Manchester to KEF. Keep up the great videos. Best wishes from here in Liverpool :)
Thanks so much, welcome aboard! Love your city!
I only know the capital of Iceland because of Craig Ferguson, he was always saying near the end of his Late Late Night run that he was going to move to Reykyavik. lol! I sure miss watching that guy. But I love your videos, they're very well done and entertaining.
He was born in the same wee town as my parents! :) Thanks so much and Happy New Year to you!
Fascinating!! Iceland must be a great place to visit. I went to Norway in 2005 and I think I would love to go back. I think my ancestors came from there. My late father was a Shetlander.
Have you ever made a series of videos about the villages of Edinburgh? Your videos are informative as well as not being stuffy as some others are.
Great idea, I haven't but it's now on the list for sure! I'd love to get back to Iceland and have a bit more time and MONEY! I went to Tromso a few years back and had the best time. Oh and Shetland is well overdue another visit! :)
Iceland an amazing place to visit .........good video Steve.
Thanks Dennis! Would love to get back and make a PROPER vid! :)
I can imagine life could be hard in Iceland .
Not my cup of tea ☕️ but I enjoyed it.
On my bucket list
Hope you can get there soon!
Still cheap fares to Reykjavik!
Icelandic (long Icelandair) from the US used to be a bargain...they offered middle of the week 3 day/2 night packages.
You can fly from Los Angeles to Reykjavik.
Have been told that the best time to be in Iceland is NEW YEAR’S EVE....
I'm a big fan of your videos but wow, did you ever speed track through all the good bits on this one.
Cheers, you’ll see this was an early video, I was still learning the ropes and trying to find a style
Cheers to you. I really do appreciate all the hard work you put into your videos. Your channel is my youtube go-to right now. Thanks for all the great content. @@steve-marsh
Never had a bad experience with easyjet steve very reliable.
t s I have to agree with you! Thanks for watching :)
Agree 👌
Looks like Northern Canada! Cold & snow..... Id still love to visit Iceland,as i've never been, but it wouldnt be high on my list of must visit places!
That was a quick one Steve !!!!
Hahah yeah all I could afford 😆
Dude.... I was in the same accommodation when I was in Iceland... lol.... :D
But just on the first day... because I made a trip around the whole island. It is worth it.
Oh I’d love to go back and give it a proper crack!
Cool vids,have another subscriber👍
Bob Monkfish thanks so much for the support 👍🏼
I would freeze solid in Iceland, It does not look very inviting in Winter.
Aye, I'm lucky that winter is my favourite season! :)
Great in summer though 🌞
Great video, lots of work You put into it! 7:38 🕺🏼♥️
Alice awww fanks! Can I employ You to do the editing but for me please and I’ll just do the travel? Kind regards ♥️
Would have been better if you could have waited until you could have spent more time there. It seemed rushed and missed out on a lot . Maybe doing less places but spending more time in them would be better. Instead of rushing through a lot
Iceland is great, but make sure you’re prepared for the cost, it’s properly expensive!
Speedy gondolas 😅
That shot from high up of the town, looks like a Christmas card!
Great short stay, but yes, you must get back. Perhaps show us why it is the 6th most expensive city/country in the world - with a few examples. I wonder whether Iceland is expensive for Icelanders though. (Same story with the Faroe Islands - another great filming trip).
Back at work in 5 hours you said. I always thought your videos were your full time job.
They sure weren't at that point! :)
