I'm 63 and moved to a rural area in a large county with about 16 people per square mile. I live not for from town and I do have neighbors. However, I am still amazed at how few opportunities there are for men to get together and hang together. Partly this is because men usually need a reason to congregate. But as many of us are retirees there is not much we have to do. I recently made contact with a fellow Toastmaster from California and together we are attempting to start a new Toastmasters club. The prior club was killed off by Covid. The challenge we face is Toastmasters is usually sold as a community service club helping members in their business or careers by improving their communication and leadership skills. That's great, but we're retired! So instead we're promoting the club as an opportunity for retired people to remember and collect the experiences of their life, arrange them into stories to deliver as speeches to the club, then record them for their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, ad infinitum, to leave as a legacy! To that end we've named our club, "Legacy Toastmasters." Wish us luck!

When she left I lost my biggest motivation to create a good life. I still want that amazing lifestyle but it's hard shooting for that for just myself because I know I don't need that in order to be happy. I’ve been telling people since I was a teenager if you keep kicking a dog eventually one day it’s gonna get up and bite you. then what’s the first response? everybody’s oh put down the dog… it’s not the dogs fault it’s your fault. You created this you wanted it whether directly or indirectly. Your actions of constant pressure and beating and tearing down created something that you will no longer control.
It’s just like the VA they only give a shit if you’re gonna go out and do something wrong. they say on the news and all the time there’s all these programs and stuff for you but it’s bullshit. You can sit there and try to bring up horrific crimes against people you can try to bring up war crimes they don’t care what they care about is what you’re going to do that’s gonna put them on CNN. People cry scream for help and all you ever get from the VA is that it’s either not service connected, they don’t wanna hear it, or there are other people off that are worse than you. Pain is weakness leaving the body when a person gets to the point that they no longer feel pain there is no longer weakness. No morals, no empathy, no purpose. This is what makes us human.
Don’t push people past their limits of being human. You take away their humanity all that you’re gonna have left is a monster.
And what that monster needs to do is be a self regulated beast. Don't give no siht but never take none either.

I'm 63 and moved to a rural area in a large county with about 16 people per square mile. I live not for from town and I do have neighbors.
However, I am still amazed at how few opportunities there are for men to get together and hang together. Partly this is because men usually need a reason to congregate. But as many of us are retirees there is not much we have to do.
I recently made contact with a fellow Toastmaster from California and together we are attempting to start a new Toastmasters club. The prior club was killed off by Covid.
The challenge we face is Toastmasters is usually sold as a community service club helping members in their business or careers by improving their communication and leadership skills.
That's great, but we're retired!
So instead we're promoting the club as an opportunity for retired people to remember and collect the experiences of their life, arrange them into stories to deliver as speeches to the club, then record them for their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, ad infinitum, to leave as a legacy!
To that end we've named our club, "Legacy Toastmasters."

As a 25 year old male I know this about myself. I have nothing and therfore no real motivation to work hard and achieve the success I picture in my mind. When I had a gf she was the motivation bc I wanted to give her a good life and even though I struggled and was trying to figure shit out, I was working and trying. When she left I lost my biggest motivation to create a good life. I still want that amazing lifestyle but it's hard shooting for that for just myself because I know I don't need that in order to be happy. My whole motivation in wanted that lifestyle is to be able to give it to someone I love.
