I can relate! When my daughter hit puberty the "you know what" hit the fan.
She was feeling 10 foot tall and bullet proof one day and said I couldn't lay a hand on her, she would call SCAN.
I thought awesome and slowly walked over to the phone.
I brought it closer to her, backed away, and said do it. She was watching me me the whole time. I told her " I will be in jail for awhile but I will consider it a very much needed vacation." Her eyes got big. If I am going to jail anyway might as well make it fun for me.
She went to her room and I never heard about SCAN again.😆

When my son was a teenager and he got smart with me I fixed it very easily: I told him - my house my rules; I pay the bills, you eat my food. As long as you live here and I have to support you, you obey the rules. You don't like it, pack your bags and leave, no allowance, go get a job and look after yourself. He stayed. Today he's an educated man with a very good job, happily married with 2 kids he adores. All it needs is tough love and a bit of resolve from the parent. We communicated well but I demanded respect and no lip

My Dad who passed away twenty eight years ago but lives with me to this day. I'm fifty four. He was a "if everyone jumped off a bridge would you follow" and "if you were meant to smoke you'd have a chimney" kinda man. Definitive with a heart of gold. Had sure boundaries and if you crossed the line there'd be silence, a deafening sincere silence on his part. He'd never tell only wait for you to figure it out. I often think of some of those times and cry for what hurt I may have caused him....not intentional just misjudgment and sometimes coming under bad influence can lead you into places your parents instinctively know will harm you and they feel you , your pain is theirs. I definitely loved him and my Mum with all my heart, they passed ten years apart. She passed after him . He sought her when he was leaving and tho he was already gone she looked for him while she was sick having had a stroke. I think it's easy to forget and see them only as your parents and not as autonomous individuals who were just as we were when young. Two people whose love gives life and guard it with all their heart and mind and soul. A huge task and responsibility it is to have another life, a soul, dependent on you for right living, for caretaking. Coming across you has been heartwarming and a journey to the days when I felt that depth of warmth and knowing someone had your back. Values and principles and the warm love that came with them bring a sense of security in knowing you are loved. These come from our creator I believe. In an increasingly uncertain world with so much darkness these are my refuge...these values I hold dear that keep my heart warm in a cold dark world. Coming across you has been heartwarming. Love draws a line and pulls you back to it when you steer off course. I loved my parents dearly. It's a fortunate child even if the parents are poor who are rich in love.❤
