      Your explanation of Ellie’s state of mind at the end of the episode and her new resolve is 100% colored by future events. As someone who didn’t play the game, it was clear to me that she was wracked by guilt for the false hope she gave Sam, and was hardening up from having to grow up so fast. She witnessed a horrible, horrible thing, and it’s either let yourself feel it all and fall apart, or steel yourself so you could go on - and die a little more inside, basically become more like Joel every day. That’s what I got from the end.
      That instead she has a renewed, urgent resolve to reach their destination and provide the cure NEVER would have occurred to me without your comments. It’s a significant difference because it’s based on an active, urgent search for hope amidst despair. That definitely comes from foreknowledge of the game because nothing in the ending indicates that.
      I’m not tryna berate you! I watch many reactors and they all do this despite their best efforts to be careful. I’ve accepted that that’s just inevitable with people who know the game. And you guys are a pleasure to watch. Still it kind of sucks.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому +3

      Hey! Thank you for your feedback. I can assure you that my explanation on Ellie’s state of mind here is contained and based on what we’ve seen on the show thus far. Obviously we do know where the story is headed and there’s a lot of clues for where her character is heading already and certain phrasing used by other characters that foreshadows what is going to happen. We don’t talk about these because it’s obviously spoilery to do so.
      However Ellie having this savior complex because she is immune is something we see in this episode. In episode 2 you see how much hope this gives Tess and how Tess basically begs Joel to deliver this cargo because she could be the answer to all of their problems. Ellie knows this. The entire reason for this trip is the search for answers and how Ellie fits into that equation. So seeing her not take a second to mourn and becoming hardened by these events is part of the story. But the other part is that they still have a journey to complete and the actual objective of that journey is to find answers.
      Every second wasted not doing so results in more lives on the line. Marlene did not specify why they needed Ellie to go wherever they are going but as soon as it’s revealed she is immune and Joel and Tess discover this it doesn’t take that much for them to put two and two together and realize why Ellie is important and why they are making sure she gets there in one piece.

    26:05 FUN FACT
    there were 10-15 stunt performers dressed in clicker costumes and 40-60 infected. It took a team of 65 prosthetic artists five hours to finish all the makeup.
    And the Bloater was played by Adam Basil, a 6’6” U.K. stuntman who worked on “Game of Thrones”
    Prosthetic Makeup Designer Barrie Gower estimates the entire bloater suit weighed 40 kilograms or more, roughly 88 pounds.

    You guys mentioned seeing the kids happy and actually living vs. surviving. I think that's one reason the writers expanded Bill and Frank's story, to show that people can still have a long, relatively happy life in this otherwise pretty bleak and depressing world.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому +5

    This was the absolute best episode so far to me and the one that got me emotional. Even though I knew what was coming it still hit like a ton of bricks. Henry's world was destroyed knowing he couldnt do anything to save him this time and it was all for nothing, cause shit can happen in an instant.

    * I don't think Kathleen would have "changed" things had it not been for Michael's death. I mean, I don't think she was radicalized before that event. Her anger, pain, and need for vengeance probably fueled her to whip up the restance to finally defeat Fedra, but that was all fed by her anger over her brother's death.
    * When Ellie wakes and calls to Sam, he doesn't turn around. Sam had asked Ellie "If you turn into a monster, is it still you inside?" Infected Sam is still deaf, still Sam.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому +6

      Interesting take - it definitely feels that way! Kathleen, I feel, brought the violence that Michael was insinuated not to bring. He told her about forgiveness - she asked what the point of that was. That part feels like it was a core belief to her, so compounded with the loss of her brother, she was completely taken over by her need for revenge.
      Sam just sitting by the window with his back turned to her was a devastating sight... The fact that this little boy knew he wouldn't attack her if he couldn't see her just makes it so much more devastating...

    Henry & Sam's arc is something really heavy, a reflection of moral dilemma. Would you save your loved ones at the cost of someone else's?
    Huge foreshadowing right there. 😁
    Incredible performances by all actors. I started crying from when the doctor said to Henry "he's scared because you're scared". I like that they changed Henry to a person with heart here, in the game he was very strict to Sam and a bit of a dick (when he left Joel & Ellie trapped). And the little change with Ellie's trying to save Sam gives an insight on how she feels about her immunity adds gravity towards later episode. This episode broke my heart more than the game's scene did, and I haven't even recovered from Ep 3 yet.... typical Neil to inflict emotional damage and suffering at us 😅

      It truly is - how many of us can honestly say we wouldn't let the world burn for the ones we love? It's an impossible choice! We also adored the changes they made, especially when Henry went back to grab Ellie after the big explosion - it was a bit of a deviation from the game, but it was a stunning one! A much stronger choice. The way these actors and the writing made us love them, the chemistry between the actors and the sheer unabashed talent was incredible to behold. I honestly started tearing up pretty early on, knowing what would await us, yet when it finally happened, it hurt so much more somehow... what a stunning episode. Kathleen served as an organic establishment of the price and destruction that comes from vengeance. Making that feel more appropriate and continued naturally in Part 2 (Season 2/3). So, I was fine with her being only 2 episodes, especially with another human villain group to face off with in the Winter episodes.

      Yes! She was a natural step in the story's progression, especially knowing where Season 2 is going to be heading thematically. We did expect her to be around much longer, but her ending was befitting of the story... Can't wait for the other villains, so far they've been fantastic!

    I like the consistency of the show. Previous episodes make sense of this one. First, without having played the game, you know that Henry is going to shoot himself in the head, because you have understood one of the main topics: what is the point of surviving alone? Uh, yes, Kathleen, the world revolves around Sam. His life is no less valuable than your perfect brother's life (that woman...). Then the episode starts with new main characters. It's like with Sarah, Bill and Frank... The show talks about what really matters and spotlights random people dying from desease or war. This dystopia is so close to our world. We are so lucky to be able to talk about this while others are going through similar things and struggling to survive...
    Anyway,
    KATHLEEN: She thinks she's more lucid and pragmatic but she's just blinded by revenge and she's leading her people to death. Great actress but sutpid b[_].
    HENRY and SAM: These actors are so perfect!!! 😍💕
    ELLIE : Who knew she could be such a great babysitter?
    JOEL: damn, he's hot...❤‍🔥😛 ❤‍🔥😛❤‍🔥
    DENISE: I have a feeling that you would be the radical one… Because Ari very often emphasizes the different perspectives in Arcane, is very sensitive to the different points of view. I don't blame you. I am radical too (I would kill everybody for Pedro Pascal!).

      Haha this comment was fantastic and a full rollercoaster of emotions, we love it!! It's really quite incredible how they've managed to show how differently Joel reacted to loss, vs Kathleen or Henry or Bill/Frank.
      Henry and Sam were truly wonderful, and their actors were sensational! How they made us care and love them...
      Ellie was such a great big sister!
      And lol Pedro Pascal definitely hit 'zaddy' status from what we can see on TikTok 😂😂😂 We are glad you are here to fiercely protect him!!
      And yes, haha, Ari is the more reasonable one, I'm a little more radical. But that's why he's such an awesome hubby, he taught me to truly pause and see others' perspectives better!

    I've seen a few people questioning Ellie, esp those who haven't played the game ( because in the game it was inevitable ) about why didn't she tell Joel or Henry, they could've cut his leg off to prevent whatsoever. The thing is at the end of the day they're still kids, kids will for sure do that, they'd think it will work. I loved how they managed to remind us both of their innocence which made it even more heartbreaking. Also i read somewhere that if no one ever came in Sam's view or touched him he would just probably sit there forever because he's deaf. That shit hurt me even more.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому +1

      Honestly, I can understand Ellie not telling the adults because she knows that Joel would likely push them all into action. He would not allow for someone that is infected to stay close, no matter how heartbreaking it would be. That in turn would have pushed Henry to act... It is the childlike innocence but also, I feel, her last ditch effort to give Sam some hope. Also yes, we read that too and that was just devastating to read! Imagine that little boy sat there, in the dark, and alone, and mentally still there as his body is taken away from him by the Cordyceps... It's unbearable to think about!

    Fun Facts: Cordyceps is one of the fungi that is composed of chitin; crustaceans and arthropods also have chitin in their exoskeleton. That's why as the infected get worse and worse (covered in more and more of the fungus), you can kind of think of it as having more and more armor/exoskeleton.
    This was a great episode. So heartbreaking. RIP Sam and Henry. Beautiful and heartbreaking performances everyone.
    Oh, Ellie's belief that she could cure Sam made it so much more painful. I think she genuinely believed that it would work. She is a child, she has been told over and over that she is a cure, she has no understanding about how a cure would be made so it makes sense that she thinks it could be relatively simple... Oh, so sad. She apologized at the grave.
    When Tess died, Ellie hung around to grieve, while Joel shoved his emotions down grimly and pressed on. This time it was Joel who lingered and Ellie who left. He is becoming more emotional, and she is becoming colder/more traumatized. Also, Joel and Henry mocked "endure and survive." Henry survived but couldn't endure. Both parts are important.
    Sam also faced the window. Two things: He knew he wouldn't see Ellie, which means he wouldn't attack her. He was protecting her. As he felt himself turn, he knew he wouldn't hear her. If he couldn't see her, he wouldn't know she was there and thus couldn't attack her. Also, it has been confirmed over the years of the game that runners DO have the person in their head. So Sam was in there when he attacked Ellie. Something to think of though -> If Ellie never touched him, if no one ever touched him or got in his vision, he would be sitting there forever watching the sunset. He's deaf, so he wouldn't hear anything. Once he hit the clicker phase, and he could no longer see, then he would be sitting there in darkness and silence forever.

    • @ChibiHoshiDragon
      @ChibiHoshiDragon Рік тому

      It makes it sadder to know he saw her fall asleep and break her promise, which is probably what made him move to not face her.
      And Clickers still "hear". They do NOT rely on the host's ear drums.
      Lobsters have exoskeletons and don't have ears. They "hear" using sensory hairs that protrude from out of the shell.
      Their shells are made of chitin... Chitin is an essential component of the cell walls and septa of all pathogenic fungi. It is why the clickers and bloaters are "bulletproof", the chitin in the fungus helps create an exoskeleton-like shell.
      They bit and use mouth tendrils to deliver spores into the bite wound. We ALSO see that the tendrils are used as a method of communication send and receive AND they are on the body of the clicker in places other than near the mouth, in places that can't also break the skin of their victim. So maybe they are also used to hear/receive with.
      So, in the early stages, he would be deaf, but as the shell grows and tendrils start to grow out of his body, he would start to "hear"

    Another thing I would like to add in and I know I shouldn’t be saying it on here is Henry and Sam bathing together and washing each other’s bodies like brothers do and Ellie accidentally walks in on them.

    2:31 remember that pile of smoldering bodies one episode ago, when Joel and Ellie were trying to find their way through the city? Yikes!
    34:05 this continues that theme of family, that lesson for Joel. Bill couldn't live without Frank because Frank was his purpose, and we see the same thing happening here with Henry and Sam. Kathleen and Henry are on the extreme end of what one would do for family, and we see a lot of bad things happen. Bill and Frank were on the healthier side of that; they accepted their fates and left peacefully. This is something that'll remain with them for some time to come, and I'm curious to see what other lessons there are still to come, what this series is going to flesh out.
    35:12 I know, right? We all know the series won't, and yet we still hope.

Henry couldn't let go of Sam - so he went with him. Joel lost Tess and his daughter - but he kept going. You see these contrasts lining up, and the thematic layers of these become so clear, sharpening the outlines of the characters as well... What a fantastic show. Heartbreaking, but fantastic!

    Kathleen and Henry were such good foils for each other. Kathleen did something great (freeing a city) for a wrong reason (revenge) while Henry did something terrible (collaborated) for a good reason (saving his little brother). But at the end of the day, both were motivated by the love they had for their brother.
    I find Kathleen a bit hypocritical at the end, saying Sam should've died. Based on how far we know she's willing to go, we know she would've done the same, if not worse, to save her brother had he been the sick one instead.
    I like how this episode is reflecting on how much harm is one willing to inflict for someone they love ? How many lives is your loved one worth ?

    After all that... Living in the KC QZ, ratting out Micheal, Sam surviving a life threatening illness, escaping Kathleen and that massive horde of Infected.... After all of that, it still wasn't enough. So easy to think all that was for nothing, for just a horrible, heartbreaking end.
    And I hate the twisted irony of Kathleen's actions (or rather inaction, I suppose) still being what ends up dooming Sam and Henry. If she'd managed to put aside her vendetta and prioritized the more obvious threat of the underground infected then none of this would have happened like this. The reason why the 3rd one is important even though the main characters are not in it much, is because it’s an episode dedicated to the core message of the show. These people are already surviving. But surviving is not enough. They need to live. They need music. They need love etc. We needed to take the time away from infected to dive deeper into how people (in this case Bill & Frank had to live) because it is exactly what is pushing Joel and Ellie to look for a cure. Is it necessary to do an entire episode on that core message? Probably not. Did it give us one of the best episodes of television in the past years? Absolutely. The acting in it is some of the best we’ve seen recently. But we also understand people that wanted more Joel and Ellie screen time

    This a messed up thing to say: "This is what happens when you f*** with fate." 🤷‍♂ First, it implies that you believe in "fate", then it implied that her brother's "fate" was to survive. 🤷‍♂ Sounds like justification to me... I'm not saying who's right and who's wrong, but her justification was flawed.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely - she's 100% doing this from an emotional stance. Her grief and trauma has clouded her judgment, and though we can relate to her desire for vengeance (it was her brother after all) but to be willing to kill an innocent child merely for the association.. There is a lot that is flawed in her justification. And that's kind of a running theme in the show - the insanity and heroism that love can drive us to.

    I’m sorry, I did not sympathize with Kathleen. She lost sight of what her brother was trying to do. She completely ignored her brother’s wishes to leave Sam & Henry be. In the end She got what was coming to her.
    Side note: Tommy is the better shooter.

      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому +1

      Definitely agree with you on that one. As a leader, it was her responsibility to do what is best for the people - not just blindly follow her own desires and wants. But alas, vengeance is a strong poison that is hard to leave behind.
      Also yesss, if you played the games, you already know what part we're looking forward to seeing the most when it comes to Tommy and his sniping 😉

    @The Media Knights honestly Sam and Henry were such lame characters they didn’t do much they got in the way of the main characters they could of had potential but they didn’t that’s why they got killed off in the beginning of the season also their deaths were lame too a better deaths for them is to wander off out in the dead zone and keep going until they stave, dehydrate or get killed by the bloater who I thought was a Moler.

      Dude! Henry and Sam are iconic in The Last of Us franchise. Their relationship with Joel and Ellie even though it’s cut short it is a sharp reminder of what our favorite duo is fighting for. The way they go out is exactly how they go out in the game. No way anybody in their right mind is changing that because it’s such an important moment in the game and storyline that doing so would probably upset the entire fan base. Plus these characters did not deserve those kind of deaths. We did get to see some pretty gruesome ones in the shape of Perry though!

    Henry's last words "What did I do...." was pure horror and heartbreaking, you can hear his distraught and despair at same time, and honestly cuts deeper than the game version "it's all your fault!" The moment he realized that everything he has done, people he betrayed are all for nothing, Sam still died in the most horrific way, and what Kathleen said about the "you can't f**k with fate" was right all alone.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights

      Ahhhh noooo. That was such an agonizing moment, poor Sam and Henry deserved so much better. Henry did what he thought was right, and it still wasn't enough...
