  • Joins us as we react to episode 8 of The Last of Us titled When We Are In Need. This episode knocked it out of the park. Great performances from Pedro Pascal's Joel and Bella Ramsey's Ellie. Scott Shepherd's David was absolutely chilling. There was something so eerie he was able to harness that had us disturbed for most of the episode. Also! A nice appearance from the legend himself Troy Baker the voice actor that voiced Joel in the videogames. This entire episode was an amazing adaptation of the videogame and it looks like we are on track to stick the landing!

    Bella is so crazy good in this episode, down to minute details. Ellie doing a deeper voice when she's holding a gun to James and David, trying to be more intimidating and taken seriously, but dropping the pretense at "medicine?" because that's so important to her she can't keep the act. Brilliant!

      Bella only keeps solidifying herself as Ellie with each episode. Her performance throughout the entire show has been nothing short from outstanding. And the final minutes of this episode puts her talents in full display. What an actress! We are so lucky to have her as our Ellie ❤️

    Aside from "baby girl", the best lines are when Joel screams "WHAT TOWN??" when torturing that guy, and when David is in the burning steak house saying "Ellieeeee". That part was so damn creepy. Scott Shepherd acted the hell out of it.

    Yes, you can inject specifically antibiotics like penicillin directly into the wound site. It's actually been found to be more effective than adjacent injection in several studies. In Ellie's situation it was probably what saved Joel's life because he definitely had an infection.

    A detail that freaked me out is when David said he used to be a math teacher to kids Ellie's age. A guy like that, around children and in a position of authority... Who knows how many victims he hurt even before the apocalypse? The circumstances might have turned him to eat people but the other disgusting part of him was there before for sure. 😡

    Normal injection sites are either upper arm, side of the hip, or the butt. As mentioned in another comment, it might be beneficial to inject directly at the wound site. My guess is possibly due to low blood volume/blood pressure/heart rate and getting it to circulate properly. Amount given is based on body weight (I couldn't tell you if she was overdosing or underdosing). Allergic reaction is also possible with symptoms ranging from mild (rash, hives, swelling) to severe (anaphylaxis, which would require an immediate shot of epinephrine to the hip and probably still need medical assistance especially to watch for reoccurrence of anaphylaxis within the first 12 hours afterwards). My wife is a critical care nurse at a hospital.

    Spoilers for those that haven't play the game and for those that didn't read Anna's letter so spoilers for the final episode! Stop reading... I knew it! It's been years since a few people noticed the letter that Anna leave to Ellie and hints at her being infected while she was pregnant with Ellie, by the trailer next episode will show it and will confirm our theory that a few of us had, that's why Ellie is immune. The Stalker bite Anna and that makes Ellie develop her immunity. I've had this theory for years and some people say that it was a good theory and others that it was stupid so I am glad that Neil didn't forgot about the letter, are expanding it by showing how she gets infected.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому +5

      People have been forced to resort to cannibalism time and time again in real human history, so it's not necessarily that on its own what we're judging but also the point where it becomes unforgivable - which is when he decided to take people's choice away and let them live in ignorance as to what they're eating. Sure, there can be an argument made that people chose ignorance and just refused to ask questions, so they could survive not only physically but also mentally.
      Another argument could be made that David chose to carry that burden of knowledge and let everyone else live in peace. But I think there's enough that we've seen from David and his patterns of abuse, predatory behavior, religious fanaticism and egomania that he chose what was easiest.

  • @G1Transformed
    @G1Transformed Рік тому +9

    32:06 Well, David DID ask James about the amount of venison that had left (which was code), in front of a group of people, so the people actually thought they were indeed eating deer. This all took place BEFORE they ran into Ellie. Bringing the deer in through the front door probably wasn't a smart thing to do, because it looked to me like they never got to see their food before it was prepared, and that probably made some of them wonder what they were eating before today, but they're too hungry to really question what they're eating probably?
    David really was a horrible man, and the actor who played him did an amazing job. I hope people remember that David is just a character and that that actor isn't him. Some people online (and in real life) can be a bit much.
    Every episode Bella continues to prove that she WAS the right actress for this role. I'm so happy we got her, and I can't wait to see how she and the others bring season two to life. This season held pretty true to the first game, so I expect the same from the next season, but will season two really be the entire second game? Can that story be told in just nine episodes? I feel like there's a lot there, and I think it might be better to flesh that story out a bit for TV before really getting into the story, but maybe that's just me. This team knows what it's doing, so I shouldn't try to put my nose in their work. Hats off to Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin. Well done, sirs. Well done!

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому +3

      You know you made an excellent point in regards to fans' response to actors playing characters, which certainly may become an issue in Season 2. For Season 2, it will be harder to adapt game 2 - it has so many layers, so many plot points and character arcs, it feels like it should be split into two so it's definitely not just you that feels that way! We already know that Druckmann and Mazin know how to write one helluva story and adaptation so we do know they can handle it!

    It’s not just you two, but the people I watched the episode with also didn’t seem to pick up on a fact they were alluding to: the girl Hannah and the rest of the ‘church’ were eating Hannah’s father, the man that Joel had killed in self-defense. David skipped a beat before telling Hannah “we will bury him in the spring”, James is particularly upset and skips a beat when telling the cook (Hannah’s mother?) that the meat is ‘venison’. I think even David is particularly distressed by it as well, which is part of the reason he lashes out at Hannah and slaps her; they are all eating her father’s corpse.
    There is a lot of ‘fridge horror’ in this episode, things that become more horrific when you take a moment to think about them afterwards and it ‘dawns’ on you. The fact that they are likely eating Hannah’s father is one (voraciously, with spoons and silverware clanking away), and another is David as a sexual predator and pedophile. There are some major signs that David planning to rape Ellie all throughout her captivity, and there are also signs that he has also been victimizing Hannah, in addition to feeding her her own father. If you watch it again and look out for these things, which I think are deliberate, this episode becomes sooooo dark and frightening. It’s even more frightening, I think, that these things are clearly implied, but not obviously stated. Great episode, with all the dread and pinpricks of hope that have made the game and the show so acclaimed.

      Thanks so much for the comment and support! Actually we did pick up on that as it's on our full discussion on Patreon, which can run up to 20 minutes, so we have to cut a lot to save time.
      There's actually plenty that of what you mentioned that was in our discussion, but can't use the actual verbiage due to UA-cam 's algorithm and the way it flags certain words being used that result in us getting demonetized. Therefore it's highly likely that more people picked up on it than you think, it's just tough to explicitly say certain things without endangering the channel.
      Regardless of that, the subtleties in horror of this episode and the way it relates to survival and what it drives people to do, is chilling and truly incredible. It was amazing to see how the show managed to actually go to the dark places the game could only allude to.

    "Shining" in the background is the perfect decoration for this horrific episode 👌. The "religious" man, the unhealthy vibes, the final hunt, the fire, it was so classic and yet I didn't see it coming at all. I really thought they were good people and that this community and Ellie and Joel could help each other! I naively thought "OK, they killed this girl's father, but they were defending themselves, they will be able to understand it."
    Watching the episode again with you, everything is so much murkier:
    - "Can we bury him?"
    - “Bury your father? Uh…”
    Embarrassed look from James.
    - "Not now, the ground is frozen."
    This episode was so intense and so well done. David's character, what he does, what he thinks, it's pure evil, a horror movie butcher... I'm about to rewatch the whole episode with you guys on Patreon and I get shivers down my spine just thinking about it 🥶.
    Let's end on a funnier note 😀. 22:00 : "Yes we're all animals". Denise: "Great...". Ari's face: "Well... yes, actually, we ARE animals, but that doesn't necessarily mean we have to eat each other. I mean, when you think about it, it's kinda fucked up...." Dude, you look a little tired by this relocation while Denise is absolutely gorgious in the tigers hoddie (it suit you perfectly 😍😍😍). I send strength to both of you for the rest of your relocation, the decoration and everything else 💪.

    Typically medication that needs to administered via syringe will have the route of administration labeled on the vial itself, so it would have been Ellie's best bet to had read the bottle for instructions; also I believe the penicillin she had would have likely been administered intravascularly (i.e. the vein) and not in the stomach which would be delivered in the subcutaneous tissue where meds like insulin typically go.

    First of all, congratulations on your new space and the growth of your channel! There is something missing, though and it is your names. I think you guys should put your names in the channel description and either introduce yourself in the video or just put some floating names...names are a great way to get closer to your channel, simple thing but will give a big impact, especially for new viewers. 😉
    The performances of the actors were amazing, but hats off to Bella and Scott Shepherd in this episode, they killed it. I even think Scott did David better than Nolan North lol.
    I was nervous about this episode because of the duration, I thought it wouldn't fit the David Arc and would continue to the next episode which would cut some of the final arc...but they fit the plot perfectly. I understand why there is no infected scene as well as I learned that real life Cordyceps' would hide underground during winter, hence why we haven't seen them in Ep 6 to 8.
    But I like better when Joel whispered something to Ellie to calm her down in the game, there is something about it that feels very personal. Although, I prefer Bella's emotions when she butchered David...I felt her rage and I cried for it.
    Anyway, great reactions as always! We're at the finale now. 💛💛💛

    Loved your reaction. A few things if I may:
    1) They really didn’t leave any imagination behind with what David’s intentions were and that was even more terrifying.
    2.) Bella Ramsey captured Ellie’s trauma response so beautifully. Ellie takes all of her pent up anger, rage, pain, grief and trauma thus far on to David and is completely overcome. The thousand-yard stare, screams, wide eyes, shock, and disassociation was so heartbreaking. David preys on her worst fear, which is that she’ll end up alone, and in the moment she leaves the burning building, she truly believes she’s all alone. So when she sees Joel, not only is she reeling from her trauma, this is the first time she’s seeing him okay after he’s been injured for the last several days.
    3.) I love how Pedro Pascal delivered Joel’s line “Hey, look, it’s me-it’s okay baby girl” with such a tenderness and comfort. Joel doesn’t even know what happened to her, he just knows this terrified, traumatized little girl needs his assurance and love. I think this is the first time we’re hit with the reminder that Ellie can be both a spunky, badass teen, and a traumatized little girl needing a hug. I’ve heard from many people who’ve experienced SA that the end scene was so moving because that’s just what you should do for someone who’s been immediately traumatized. Pedro and Bella are perfectly cast, they deserve all the awards, and this show is just too flipping good! ❤

    - Probably spoiler section, not sure -
    I'd like to share my thoughts too about this ep. Tbh i don't have much, this ep was really great, I was on edge the whole half of it.. but i wanna say this for the people who still wish that the show had clung to the game version at the end - that part where we expect Joel would come just in time to stop her in the middle of her rampage - First of all, realistically, i think nobody can ever converse inside that burning diner with all that smoke lol. They can do that freely in the game with the tweaks in animation, but these are real people. We have to consider human logic. Second, - let's pretend we never read the first point - for those saying that the game version was more impactful because Joel stopped Ellie right before she gets lost in there - compared to the show where he finds her after she's all done with David - I agree, it was impactful, NOTHING can EVER top that, but i also loved the change. This Ellie did it all by herself. They let her be DONE with it. It was exhausting to watch Bella go through that, and it's obvious ever since that they are building her character a bit differently to set up season 2.. - for this i'd just quote what Neil Druckmann said years ago, his interpretation of this scene in the game.. it still fits, he said - this time Joel saved Ellie " not physically but emotionally. " and we saw that, when she got outside the diner she was still in fight mode. It took awhile but it changed when she realized it was Joel, she needed someone to tap her back to reality and reassure her again. We thought that episode 7 was made for her because of the backstory and all that, but the truth is this is it, to me this was her release, that prolonged shot of her, all that rage she's been bottling up for so long.. Neil said “ David’s face becomes the punching bag. this is for riley, this is for tess, this is for sam, this is for henry, this is for my mom. ”

      Wow thank you so much for your support even with the time difference, we truly appreciate you!
      This is a great comment! We definitely enjoyed the change from the game as 1, it does set things up for Future Ellie quite nicely. Second, the fact that Joel showed up afterwards gives Ellie a kind of emancipation or independence - she had to finish David herself. And Joel, much like any parental figure, was not there to do things for her, but support her through her journey and console her if she needed it. So far they've truly done an incredible job, we loved this episode!!!

    cant believe you guys were so disappointed with "left behind", and can't see the relevance and need for that episode (especially for those who hasn't played the games). Hell, I even felt it was necessary because it makes Ellies character more credible and the stuff she pulls off in this episode more believable (and prior episodes). I think violence in shows have the best effect when it is used with care, and I love that we don't get the "in game version" of Joel where he kills a ton of people like some 80s action movie.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому

      Aw we gotta clarify a few things! We were disappointed with the usage of time in the show, rather than the episode of Left Behind itself, and we did state that in our post episode discussion of Left Behind. The episode itself was beautiful! However we would have preferred that those 50 minutes were utilized differently. It is absolutely necessary to see what drives Ellie, to see how she became who she is now, there is no doubt about that. Also, to clarify again, it did make sense that Joel is more grounded and realistic in the show - our main gripe really was that we lost some of the most iconic encounters with the infected from the game. Hope that clarifies things!

  • @carriesmith742
    @carriesmith742 Рік тому

    With the Frank and Bill episode, they made a point for Joel to tell Bill "Youre way too far out to attract stray infe ted", which would make the hourde scene not make sense. In the game there's a bloater at the school which results in more infected but they made a point in showing what a good job Bill did of clearing the town in the show that they basically wrote it out, not cut it. Just my opinion.

    • @OfficialMediaKnights
      @OfficialMediaKnights  Рік тому

      Yeah I guess the technical term would be they never wrote the infected in that episode in the first place so there was nothing to cut. Semantics 🕵️‍♀️ Regardless it very clear the show adaptation never really wanted to make the show about the real threat the infected are and made it more about the characters within the world. Even though I can understand why they’d go in this direction it is a disservice to the entire atmosphere of what The Last of Us is. The show failed to show us just how truly dangerous the world is to the point that humans themselves seemed like a bigger threat than the infected. As far as we’re concerned they don’t seem to really have a problem with the infected now that they’ve built societies around the problem. Which also reduces the impact of the choice Joel has to make at the end.
