Many thanks for all of the fine comments. Many have asked what and why do I model .My answer is quite simple........just model a place and a time you would want to live in.
His layout is incredible! I had the opportunity to meet him and see a lot of his work. A great person, a great talent an unbelievable modeler. Thanks for sharing this.
3:29 This layout is museum quality and staggering in its splendor and grandeur. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of Howards genius. It is out- standing not unlike the legendary Gorre and Daphetid and Franklin and South Manchester.
Stunning. What impresses me the most are all of the elevations. To me, that is what separates good layouts from great ones. I have seen a lot of fantastic layouts but this one speaks to me more than any other and is by far the best I've seen. The extreme level of detail in the weathering and the addition of all the props really draws me in and makes me feel as if these are places I've actually been to. Thank you for this video and introducing me to Mr. Zane's incredible creativity, vision and skill. Absolutely amazing...
Got a copy of Howard's book. And as you have said ...overwhelming. The book is beautiful and would literally take an evening to look over all the pictures. Anybody who loves HO model railroading ....this book is a must. It's a treasure.
Been two times to Howard Zane with Tommy Gilbert and seen the layout. You can find throughout the layout scenes of Howard's sense of humor, such as the nudes swimming, bring your on snake church, What's in the Trap tavern(road kill du jour), the Vietnamese Dairy and other scenes. It is a truly a wonderful layout.
Absolutely awesome layout, I got his signed book recently. I have many of those models to build and seeing them done by others just gives me so many ideas for mine. Love all the brass locos in the beginning on ledge, what a collection- and I know that's tip of iceberg for locos.
His layout is absolutely beautiful, my first time hearing about his layout was on the DPB model railroaders dvds and I was completely in shock when I saw his, I can only imagine how must look compared to video to in person. Would love to run my Chessie Safety Express with KeyImports 614 on his layout if I ever get it done. Thanks for sharing a great tour of the beautiful art work!
Folks folks this is the best layout I've ever seen any place in the world by quite a measure. It is absolutely incredible in every detail. Blessings to all because it seems like God Almighty himself was involved with this one.
A TRUE WORK OF ART JUST MADNESS !!!!!!!!! That's all that can be said !!!!!! Any other words like BEUATIFUL, GORGEOUS , WHAT TALENT ,ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL, what ever the terms or words to dicribe it doesn't do this creation justice --------------
I would love to get help of designing my diorama's old Stillwater Coal Mine of Columbus Montana, but my main issue is how should I go about building the bridge and coal bays based off the single image I have of the mine's existence. I figured out the main scenery and track plan, now I just need help with building the actual structures. Due to my dad who usually would work on the buildings not able to see as good anymore I've been burdened with the task of building it, but I'm not the scenery kind of person, I paint and weather steam locomotives and railroad cars, that's my side of the hobby I enjoy.
Howzit : Years ago; one of the first MR-ing DVD's I purchased was that of Zane's unbelievable Layout .... The detail being nothing short of overwhelming / MORE than just impressive ! From those days; I have to make a comment / observation .... The under-layout clutter ( We ALL have it ! ) is an intrusion during your walk-through viddy and compromises the quality of this superb Layout - It is a contradiction of note. Where is the simple addition of a Facia-to-Floor curtain that would complete the * Framing * of this museum-standard masterpiece ? Much Thanks + Cheers For Now / Johnny 🤙
Thanks Jonny, I'm new at this so I'm in the process of improving my video quality with a much better HD video camera and editing to come. I will be archiving these older videos and replacing them with improved quality. I agree and will try to avoid under layout clutter in future videos also.
@@alpugliesetrains9753 Thanx for the reply; Al; but please don't get me wrong ... My comment was not aimed at your capability as a videographer at all; but one of expressed surprise at the absence of a simple; cheap * Finishing Touch / Attention To Detail * curtain-drop skirting that would complement the excellent quality of Zane's Layout. I am certainly NOT in the same league; but my past 3 Layouts had curtain-drop skirtings as a matter of course and requisite tidiness .... 🤙
Greetings : Go to RONS TRAINS n THINGS [ You Tube - Shorts ] and view his latest ( coincidental ) posting on * Layout Skirtings * which REALLY shows the aesthetic advantage of this simple; but highly-effective finishing-touch. Keep Well + Regards / Johhny
This is insane! Please tell you didn’t build this only by yourself. The detail is amazing. I would prefer more trees on the slopes instead of bushes but I guess this is due to lack of space.. would love to see some movement😉
The DVD we offer has 2hrs of the most awesome steam and diesel movement thru his layout that ive ever seen. I will also be uploading regular shows running at Howards
We get it you are selling a DVD 📀 🙄 of Howard layout .LOL. .me Personally, if I can't build it, I don't need it. I don't understand why anyone would want someone else is models, but I build models full time 12 hours a day super busy. I just would never ever pay for someone else is models. But I make really good money at it .I'm a Retired railroad engineer, and now I get paid really good money to build models, mostly military models and railroad .
Many thanks for all of the fine comments. Many have asked what and why do I model .My answer is quite simple........just model a place and a time you would want to live in.
It amazes me that the National Endowment for the Arts does not recognize model railroading as an art form this is a masterpiece !!!
Howard has been saying that for years! And wait to you see the hand made brass engines we will be featuring!
Hats off to someone who takes his hobby so seriously.
His layout is incredible!
I had the opportunity to meet him and see a lot of his work.
A great person, a great talent an unbelievable modeler.
Thanks for sharing this.
Couldn't agree more!
This is an absolute work of extravagant art! Honestly no one else can recreate what Howard Zane has created!!
3:29 This layout is museum quality and staggering in its splendor and grandeur. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of Howards genius. It is out- standing not unlike the legendary Gorre and Daphetid and Franklin and South Manchester.
Thank you !! The reason I feature it so much is because I agree with you.
Howard Zane is the MAN!!! 👍😁 I truly enjoyed your tour of his layout masterpiece! The detail is AWESOME!!! 👏😁
I agree!
It's magical......can only imagine how many hours went into its creation.....👍👌👏🇺🇸.

Do you have to phone the local electric utility before you head down to the basement and start flicking switches?😁 That’s an iconic layout!
Just a fantastic layout!
Wow. what an amazing layout and an awesome tour! This is a very special video :)
That blue goose that was a nice engine man
Its mindblowing!
No Words AND STEAM Am I dead is this what Heaven looks like?
Love to be able to get some of those structures in nscale 😢
What we are looking at is the MichaelAngelo of model railroads.
how would you ever move this train set layout? Sludge hammer?
If I hadn't already seen Miniatur Wunderland I would have really been impressed. He has a ways to go before MW is topped. Still a nice layout though.

Feel free to contact me at my email address to discuss.
Stopped in to see his Layout back in April 2019. How is Howard doing?
Thank you for asking Howard is doing well an interview is coming!
It was a pretty nice tour just like it spelled TOUR .

This dvd you mention...is it by Forrest Nace?
Yes and it is a great DVD at www.nacesvideography.com tell him you saw it on my channel.
2800 sq ft! My cabin is 400 sq ft! I can't even imagine how much money went into this layout.
That's bonkers.
I want to live there!!!!
Awesome
Show me turning lights that was really cool
I'm going to redoing this video with Howard in 4k HD great color and no shakiness so hit the subscribe and like buttons and stay tunned

I would be more than happy offering $50.000 cash , for your services putting together this layout .
more of a desert
This is an HO layout?!
Yes
Also did a lot for model railroaders by starting the train shows at Timonium Maryland state fairgrounds. The best train shows in the 90-20’s
Well...holy crap. Someone is rich!
🤯
Yeah my jaw dropped
A+++
The amount of cash this chad must've spent
