Basic arithmetic. Used calculus in prog lately? Used trigonometry to work out some right angle functions in a riff? lol. I squarely stand by that I haven’t used math above geometry in my adult life for anything. Everything up to geometry is definitely useful to know. Beyond that, unless you’re like a physicist or a god damn math teacher….no one remembers that crap or has used it. The latter being the most hilarious reason to know math above geometry. To teach it to other people that won’t use it and don’t care about knowing it, unless they are also planning to be god damn math teachers lol.

Easiest thing to do, I'm hearing it as 5, 8, 5 and 7 = 25 (edit: realised after posting this comment that the count is in the description, good to know my hearing doesn't suck 😂)
Very cool! I’ll never forget part of a Mahavishnu Orchestra song in 20/8 time. I think sometimes larger time signatures compel us to think in a more linear manner, with more emphasis upon phrasing.
This man amazes me everytime I hear him playing! That takes a lot given that I know just how much it takes to be any good in guitar! That man is incredible in its own right!!!
@@nano8640 i dont think 25/8 is the best way to count it, i think it should actually be counted/written in 5 + 8 + 5 + 7 (like in the description) 25/8 and 5/8 would both suck for this riff, i wouldnt like to play in either of those.
ok... aaaaand what? just flexing or what was your purpose? what is an advantage of measuring it as 25/8 over playing it 4 times and making it 4/4? It's not that hard to write riff in weird signature, but if your only purpose is to make it weird, it will not be a good example of riff writing.
The bottom is a subdivision - eight notes, it's just how you divide the time you have in a given tempo. The upper is how many notes of that subdivision there are.
The top number is how many beats are in a measure. The bottom number tells you which note gets one beat. 25/8 25 beats in a measure, eighth note gets one beat.
No you didn't. There are clear downbeats all over. First, I guarantee you at that speed it's easier to notate in 4. Second you wrote a riff in 5/4 + 4/4 + 4/4 + 5/4 + 7/4
The question: "Why do I have to learn math, I'll never use it in real life".
Answer: to play prog

TO MAKE POLYRHYTHMS! 😂

"everything is in 4/4 if you don't count it like a nerd"
I mean 25/8 is just 100/8 after four bars which turns into 4/4 at this point
I would have broke that down into a few time signatures
its probably easier to just categorize it as 25/8 since it loops every bar of that
It's easier to do 25/8 because each section has different groupings.
🤓☝️
That's kind of what he does in his mind, check the video's description for details

You MUST turn this into a full song it would be absolutely awesome.
You always have the coolest guitars
Cool but can you write a riff in π/4?
I think one dude did that already with Ableton.

It's pure evil that you never produce any full instrumentals when it sounds this good
This man amazes me everytime I hear him playing! That takes a lot given that I know just how much it takes to be any good in guitar! That man is incredible in its own right!!!
Sounds awesome.
Good job. That's what the inside of my head sounds like.
I've been playing guitar for 40yrs and I never want to be this good. So far I'm doing great!!🤣
Best riff player I have ever heard
Another awesome riff!
That guitar is sick
Man your technique is awesome! Sigue rockeando! 💪🏻🎸
That riff melted my face but it also warped your guitar, the frets are crooked now
now try to play it in a band
No problem.
Can't wait to see you on big stages one day!
Everything is in 4 if you count it wrong enough
About 2 weeks ago I ate a marble cake that looked just like that fretboard, it was very delish.
that's dope!
The LAARP Machine
i prefer splitting things like that into 2 parts with different scales
That's fire!!!
Sick
Tune it to C# and that's a nice Suffocation song intro
all songs are In 4/4 if you count well enough
Try 256/16 next
Or five measures of 5/8.
Any time I listen to odd signatures I give up hope of understanding music theory
It's just simply counting numbers. Can you count to 25? Or 12 and 13?
Me, a music theory illiterate drummer:
‘Nah’
Please ask Legator if they'll send me that guitar too... ;)
That really felt like 6/4
count it as 5 measures of 5/8
there are different groupings and it doesnt make sense in 5/8 so 5/8 would feel even weirder to play
@@deathbylowpass you are meat riding severely if you think counting this in 25/8 is actually easier

I just count it as one measure of 3/4 followed by 4/4, rinse and repeat
Well then you count it wrong Mr. Jefferson.
That is not Just one rift
epic sause
sounds like a song from cyberpunk 2077
Make the full song pls
I think most of us would count it 13/8 and 12/8
4/4 at 123 bpm.
Sounds kinda like karnivool
sounds like psycroptic
Because you can, right?
its definitely 5/8, 8/8, 5/8, 7/8. Time sig is more than just how many 8th notes until the riff repeats, its about up and down beats
You mean you wrote a riff that happens to be in 25/8.
That's what he said.
Is this your own style? I've never heard that before. It's a cross between a jent and a fingerstail.
That's a fucking ripper. I, as your drummer, would probably hate you for it, but it's a sick riff no less
Its just 5/4 but with quintuplets (still sick though)
Only hard if you’re counting
prog
Anyway if getting a link to the tab
ok
thats actually 625/8
31.567/16 next?
5/8+8/8+5/8+7/8 :)
No, you made a 5 + 8 + 5 + 7 riff
It ain't no pantera though
It feels like 13 then 12
Could be written like 4/4+4/4+9/8
Everything's in 4/4 if you don't count like a nerd.
that right hand is dummy
It'll become 5/8 once the drummer and bassist get ahold of it. Then you've got a digestable but unique thingimajig.
Isn't NMCC in that time sig?
Cool riff but what’s your Woodcutting lvl?
That is not a single measure riff. Sounds cool though.
Isn't that just 5/8 x 5?
Is it not just 5/4?
Riffage: 100

Yeah no. 25/8 lol obnoxious.
Damn killer riffs though
Tone is dreadful.
Oh the bottom number is seconds, top number is notes. Pretty cool!
nope, the 25:8 is a pattern. it has nothing to do with seconds, you can play it way slower or way faster and it will still be 25:8
The bottom is a subdivision - eight notes, it's just how you divide the time you have in a given tempo. The upper is how many notes of that subdivision there are.
