    The servo saver would probably be beneficial because you could have spring tension holding the shift fork in place.

    Thanks for the information, I had the exact same setup when I was running. I almost have all the parts I need from Vitavon to get back to building. Been a busy month for me, it will be nice to get back to the RC's when things calm down again. Hoping to have a big reveal by the end of month.

    I like the Ryft but the servo/rod design is a "little bit" confusing😅
    to say the least!
    Tks for sharing very well explained tips👌

    I have the servo saver in mine, but I also used the Spektrum 107 when I built mine... I wanted simplicity for my first build. I need to do these mods you're suggesting because mine also has a tendency to pop out of gear. Thanks a TON for sharing this info!

    So glad you make these videos about the Ryft cause I was going to buy one but I don't want to mess with the transmission like that on a new truck! So hopefully Axial makes it right sooner than later cause I love Axial myself 👍

      This isnt a show stopper, get the Ryft, just leave it stock with out the shift mechanism and leave it in high speed.

    Swapping the orientation of the end on the trans shaft was the fix for me!!! I think that’s a mistake on Axials end!! I had to change it on mine and it has been work fine with the servo saver!!! It’s like the angle turned away from the direction of pivot was working against the servo!! That set up look killer now!! Shouldn’t give you trouble!! I can’t wait to get back into mine and shave the internals now to get more engagement depth!!

    Had they made the teeth a mm longer we wouldn't have these issues. I would like to see them redesign the entire 2 speed gear setup. Im going to shave mine down like you did and see what happens.

  • @rc-daily

    Mine has never had an issue holding 2nd. It's always low gear. My glued together servo horn seems to work better. I've even thought about taking a dremel and putting a slight angle on the shift collar and gears that way they actually lock together instead of trying to push apart.

    • @paulschryer9571
      @paulschryer9571 3 роки тому

      Maybe you could put in a light-spring, just to keep the gears together, when wanted !! 🤔.....!??
      I also thought about filing the "catches" on the side of the (1st & 2nd gears) !!? IDK
      I work on my son in laws RYFT, so I GOTTA GET IT RIGHT !!!! 😬.....😉
      - Thankyou for your input !!!

      @@paulschryer9571 I'm afraid if you put a spring on one side it won't engage the other gear at all. Its a poor design all together. Its over engineered and still doesn't function properly. Axial needs to look at a trx4 2 speed and copy it. They use plastic parts but work flawlessly. You can have them bound up bad and they will still shift. It kills me that axial couldn't get the ryft done decently..

    I'm using the stock servo and stock servo saver and stock plastic case , had issues at first with kicking out of second but after some mods inside trans and getting end points good , it works as should and I've had it on 4s .

    I have to go back in and trim the form on the high speed side. Did the low gear side, and it is holding in gear well, but didn't do the high speed side and it is jumping out a bit. I think once I get the high speed side of the form thinned down, mine will be solid at that point.

    • @paulschryer9571
      @paulschryer9571 3 роки тому +1

      - WHERE DO YA "THIN" THE FORM !!??? (ON THE 4-CATCHES) - ON THE SIDE OF EACH GEAR !!??? 🤔.....

    • @HBFTimmahh
      @HBFTimmahh 3 роки тому

      @@paulschryer9571 if you look at the shift fork, the shaft part of the for, has both sides raised up, making that part of the fork thicker than the fork tines themselves.
      Grind those humps flat on both sides of the shift fork so the Fork is the same thickness from tine to shaft.
      Then, you'll need to mod the case just a bit to allow the shoulder on the shift shaft to slide into the front 1/2 of the tranny case, so the fork tine can set flush against the inside of the case. This will allow the fork to move the shifting cog to fully engage with both 1st and now, 2nd gear.
      You only want to grind on the shift fork itself, and open the hole in the case 1/2 for the shoulder on the shift shaft.
      Hope this helps.

    If these things are popping out of gear ... there is a mod called "under cutting" not sure if its ever been done on an RC, but motorcycle have a similar dog style transmission, and high powered bikes get the transmission undercut so that the dogs are no longer straight (flat) they are cut with a slight angle on them. So that when they are under power, they are actually pulling together tighter ... the more power you add, the tighter they hold. The only problem doing this is ... if this RC is designed to shift while under power ... it will no longer do that ... a quick blip of the throttle will be needed to make it shift to unload the dogs. Just a thought ...

    • @ExocagedRC
      @ExocagedRC  3 роки тому

      YES!! I actually drew that up but I doubt Axial would even look at it I wonder if we could dremel some away to make that ourselves?

    • @charliebrown238
      @charliebrown238 3 роки тому +1

      @@ExocagedRC See, great minds think alike! LoL! As far as dremeling though ... I honestly dont it could be done (properly) ... main reason is ... if you dont get all dogs identical ... it will put all the load onto 1 dog. The male part of the dog would be somewhat able to be done fairly easy ... its the female part that will be hard ... getting the angle right inside that slot ... surely you would know someone with a desktop CNC? If I had one myself, id grab a set of gears and try it ... even though i dont have a Ryft ... i just love modding stuff hHaHa!

    • @ExocagedRC
      @ExocagedRC  3 роки тому

      Yeah I know some guys. I was looking at the dogs and they also aren’t solid pieces. We would only get maybe 2 degrees or so before we possibly got too thin and tear them off. Yeah getting it right with a dremel would be almost impossible.

    Low gear works perfect in mine, 0 issues meanwhile 2nd sounds so damn bad. Spent solid half hour messing with end points and such to get it set and it seems good untill I give it some throttle and it just makes so much noise. I made my own servo horn with some cheapo metal gear micro servo.
    Couple bashes and despite solid amount of grease still on gears, hi speed had some wear on them.
    Think I’ll just bash it untill it breaks and get replacement set then, it’s relatively cheap
