I’d recommend reading “the feminine mystique” if you haven’t because even though this book was written in the ‘60s, it’s relevant to this topic

I really like it because it teaches me about the history of how the cult of femininity was when being a housewife was mandatory

Yes!!! I haven’t read in full but I did have to skim this for one of my women’s lit classes in undergrad. Definitely an interesting view into thought processes for women that time when similar ideas of femininity are being discussed and touted today! Thanks for taking time to comment sweetie 🩵

My mother was depressed and I wasn't close with my sisters growing up, so at first I really liked all the femininity discourse. I was fun learning how to dress for your body type, pick out perfumes, etc. But little by little I noticed these women dont like girly things. It's all this weird cosplay designed to appeal to men. And that's fine. Most women desire romantic companionship. EXCEPT they're trying to target men that can afford to pay all the bills while she stays at home.
Again, that's fine. However, I'm a millennial. I went to college during the recession. My mother went from earning close to 6 figures to being on disability making a fraction of that. I've seen what happens to people who don't have savings. But with the rapidly rising cost of living, can the average man cover rent/mortgage, power, internet, water/sewer/trash, car payment, groceries, and THEN all the fun stuff like manicures by himself and still have money left over for savings?? Some, sure.
And then there's the weird glamorization of 1950s relationships as if those women weren't asking permission to go shopping.
Anddddd thennnn there's the forgotten fact that most men date/marry within their social circle. If he's a wealthy doctor or software engineer, he'll probably date a wealthy nurse or QA. Most of us won't get to be Cinderella.
I hate to be a debbie downer it's all so impractical

ooo hi honey 🤗 thank you for taking time to comment. I feel you! it can all just seem like so much. so so many factors affecting companionship for women these days. I liked your point about the social factor… that is something I wanted to talk about in a later video. class/social strata can actually be a huge factor for people when choosing partners that isn’t discussed often. I know things can kinda suck these days but I’m rooting for you and I hope you’ll keep a little faith in your heart that things could turn around for you 🩵

on a more macro level, i think a lot of these issues come from the co-opting of “feminism” or “women’s liberation,” etc. by corporations + their really powerful marketing teams

    • @soulmaturation5848

Absolutely! one must consider the subliminal messaging from all the ads on social media and tv and what they make us feel we have to abide by at a deeper level… I think in terms of the women’s lib co-opting we see that type of stuff with “girl boss” or “hardworking mom” narratives in commercials or ads for products

I asked my husband what he thought about women’s beauty trends today (I.e., lash extensions, lip filler, super long nails, fake tanning, layers of make-up etc.), and he said “Well… they’re certainly not doing it for men that’s for sure.” 😂
Natural is always better ❤️ and by that I mean taking care of your body, eating a balanced diet and keeping your routine simple. It does wonders.
The rest is just a way to steal our hard-earned money.
I think that women are doing ridiculous things to keep up with other women. I don’t think men are imposing these weird, exhausting and quite frankly expensive beauty standards today.
Overall though, I really loved your video. Really interesting and insightful!

Yet... there's tons of men going after the women with all of these procedures lol

@@katc2040 Men go after women they like. Frequently it's in spite of the makeup. Speaking as a girl who rarely wears makeup. Every guy I've been in a relationship thought it was a positive, especially the ones who were previously involved with women who cake-faced and complained about guys messing up their face when they tried to be affectionate. But it's worth noting that not wearing makeup is a filter, so guys who are more interested in appearances do get filtered out by it. Personally, I consider that a bonus.

Watch "legion of men" or "man guide" or "piece of mind" and you will find, that all women say the same thing you just said: "I know what I want now, and don't ever change, girls - which translates to: My list of demands has grown larger now as has my psychological trauma, and I am not willing to compromise"
