      @Harry. B. Renner. jr.You could first make sure you were replying to the right person before going off on them im sure. And even then i bet you your cvt "clutch is only a weighted cvt assembly with a centrifugal clutch. What i see here is a discussion of how he is going to make a automatic transmission soon. Not that he has.

      @Harry. B. Renner. jr. true. But a cvt still requires a clutch of some sort or in my cars case a torque converter.

      @Harry. B. Renner. jr. CVT is not a clutch. CVT is a variable belt drive.

    DAF used this system back in the 1970s in some models. If I remember correctly there were about 10 or 12 pads pivoted at one end around the flywheel inside a drum. As the revs increased, the pads swung out on the pivots grasping the inside of the drum. You gave me inspiration to use these cheap Lada parts to build a centrifugal clutch to my project which has been a pain because there was no clutch at all between the motor and the load making motor starting difficult. Awesome work!
    I just wanted to remind you, that you can change gears without disengaging the clutch (waiting for it to drop in rpm).
    After acceleration just let of the gas pedal while simultateously pushing the gear lever to neutral... in a small timeframe there is no load on the transmission - so you can get in neutral with ease.
    To engage the new gear you have to adjust the engine rpm with the gas pedal and if the rpm is matched - it should be possible to engage the gear.
    (Google helps)
    I wish you would do a follow up video:
    How fast can you accelerate by flooring it in first gear?
    How much wear can be seen on the brake shoes?
    _____________________________________________________
    Maybe add weights to the brake shoes while also using a stronger spring.
    Spring force is linear while centrifugal force is square to the rpm.
    ==> That should improve the clutch torque capacity without slipping after it reached its engaging rpm (1200 - 1300).

    • @televisionandcheese
      @televisionandcheese 4 роки тому +2

      They are trying to do this, the issue is that the helical gears make it very hard to pull it out of gear, as its holding it in when spinning , you hear how its 'holding onto second'

      I usually upshift while cruising without using a clutch, you just drop out of gear a quarter second after stepping off the throttle, and keep a smooth pressure into the gear immediately above, and as the revs drop the synchros will kick in and you should be able to shift into next gear with little to no shudder. I usually do it around town from 3-4 on a long straight over a bridge

      Haven't watched the video but isn't that the opposite of what it should do?, a normal car slowes to a stop when you let off the gas, since the engine is being turned by the tires withouy the gas or air needed for combustion, basically the engine is just acting as a useless air compressor, slowing the car, add a centrifugal clutch and now the tires can't spin the engine taking much longer for the car to slow down under no throttle, since the only losses are now in friction in the trans, diff, and tires to road

    • @jaykoerner
      @jaykoerner 3 роки тому

      @sw4gr1d you can engine brake on a 2 stroke trust me I do it all the time, you just wide open throttle and kill spark, keeps lube but has no bang

    • @mikeznel6048
      @mikeznel6048 3 роки тому

      @sw4gr1d Yeah they don't make 2 stroke cars... Maybe once upon a time there was a wild and whacky 2 stroke but no... A 2 stroke will lubricate itself when ever it is running, regardless if your using it for engine breaking or not. I'm not sure you understand how a 2 stroke engine works.

    • @nerd1000ify
      @nerd1000ify 2 роки тому

      @sw4gr1d Most automatic cars have a sprag clutch in the transmission and will just freewheel when you lift off the accelerator, at least in the lower gears. I believe this was done mostly to ensure a smoother drive in low gear (you're probably familiar with the way a manual can shudder and jerk when you make a bad shift in low gear).

    I remember that the Citroën 2cv (3cv, Mehari and Ami 8) had centrifugal clutch. But this was used mainly when the car was stopped and you put the 1st gear without using the clutch.
    The fact was that this engine, a tiny 2 cylinder boxer, neded a lot of revs to function properly.
    The car had clutch pedal for the 2nd and other gears, you can used it or not, depending if you let the revs go down to change gears or not.
    I think that the Renault 4L had the same clutch, but I'm not sure.
    Great work! That Lada sounds like and old Citroën!!!

    Bloody clever and worked fine - They did actually use the same setup in DaF 33, the little dutch car, but it also had a variable belt for the gearing - so an early constant velocity gearbox. Also I believe VW used a similar setup in VW Beetle automatics and they used manual gearchange for that as a semi automatic ( I think that was centrifugal clutch in that too?). Either way, a very clever homebuild job and it worked - You have some bright people in Garage 54, and the fabrication skills from those youngsters are amazing

      It's pretty cool actually. I was thinking that you can archieve a similar thing using a normal clutch. Just use oil pressure to control the clutch operation, to elevate the oil presure the engine needs to rev up, put a release valve in the throttle assembly, so when you release the gas pedal, the clutch desenganges inmediately, so you can change gears more easy without waiting the engine to rev down.
      The only problem that i found is when you are in a hill and the engine rpm's aren't enough to keep the clutch enganged. But i think is a great solution for traffic jams, city driving and eldery people, your left leg suffers too much when are in a traffic jam lol

    You can shift without a clutch normally if you match revs (engine/trans) before shifting. Many of us prefer it with tractor trailers and big trucks. Just let off the gas to shift up and hit the gas to downshift. Next up weld the input shaft!

    • @needleonthevinyl
      @needleonthevinyl 4 роки тому +3

      No, the problem is that the "clutch" stays engaged on its own until the engine revs down. Load doesn't engage the clutch, RPM does.

      @@needleonthevinyl You don't get my post at all. Driving a big rig I can shift the transmission WITH THE CLUTCH FULLY ENGAGED the whole time. The same applies here. In a way, your clutch system is working like a Laycock De Normanville Overdive Unit, the difference being that the OD Unit operates hydraulically, whereas your method is centrifugal force. Try replacing your centrifugal clutch with an overdrive Unit, but you would need to arrange the hydraulic pump pressure to achieve drive. On a Laycock OD Unit, the other difference is that the friction material and Drum are always wet-lubricated with Hydraulic Fluid, and this makes the OD Unit last a long time. Hydraulic oil removes the friction heat. Please try this instead of your Centrifugal Clutch. I think that fitting of a Laycock OD Unit would work perfectly, as everything in the OD Unit is perfectly balanced - meaning no vibration at all. I was amazed that your Lada could be driven so well on the centrifugal clutch, and at tickover, at speed, the car would 'coast' freely - saving gas! Love your vids. Greetings from Australia, land of glasnost!
