I feel like there's a good deal you can gather about them without hard text, at least. For example, Albinaurics are man-made beings who also bleed silver, so it's likely the secrets of the Nightfolk were partly uncovered by modern sorcerers, who then applied this knowledge to fashion their own homunculi, albeit less "perfect." (Then again, the silver tear clones have extremely basic intelligence compared to Albinaurics. If you simply place a ledge between you and the clone, they'll mindlessly walk over the edge to their death.) Funnily enough, the silver blood detail seems to be carried over from Bloodborne, in which the man-made kin of the cosmos bled quicksilver. So maybe you could interpret some thematic parallels between the Nightfolk and the Pthumerians, lol.
It's so heartwarming all the detail that went into this game. I like to imagine a lot of these were done following half-formed storylines only meant for the devs, or as creative indulgences of the dev crew.
I always thought that the Silver Tear NPC's had a strong resemblance to the Nightfolk base template at character creation. The Nightfolk were said to bleed silver, which also seems to be a connection to Silver Tears. Curiously, the only other place I think Nightfolk were mentioned outside of character creation is the flavor text or Urumi, a weapon that also seems related to the Nox weapons in functionality.
The NPCs are one of the best parts of Elden Ring, if you ask me. With each playthrough, I get a little excited whenever I reach, like, Hyetta or Alexander or even Kenneth.
Well the NPCs have cool designs and nice personalities and stories, but the 'quest design', the way you interact with them, the way they move from place to place is probably the worst thing about Fromsoft games and hasn't really been improved since Demon's Souls
@@peachyjam9440 It's a little wonky for sure, hah. Then again, with the way Elden Ring is as a game, I don't really know of a better way for quests to take place other than 'So this NPC will stand there now and you can talk to them'... but I'm not a game designer either :')
@AzureDarkGod I think this is from softs first entry into an actually open world game, so I think some bloating and quest mistakes are forgivable. I just hope the dlcs and any future games in the style of Elden Ring are more polished
@@peachyjam9440some of them, like Ranni in particular, I think work nicely having a confusing, esoteric progression because it adds to the sense of mystique and discovery. On the other hand, there is little enjoyment to be found in chasing around Corhyn and Goldmask like it's a Scooby-Doo bit. Alexander is just bloody perfect in this - he's simple and forgiving to a fault. I swear there's no actual way of softlocking his quest unless you kill his ass or don't free him the one time, you'll always see the bastard during the festival and in Farum Azula, which is all the better for the Elden Ring take on the Onion Knight archetype.
@@peachyjam9440 One of the USPs of FromSoft is the depth of the world. Another USP is that the world has little regard for the player. NPCs dont exist just for the player to interact with them; they have their own quests going on which may be incidentally related to what the player is doing. Just be happy they added NPC map markers lol
It’s likely that Magnus was once a savage man that eventually joined the Ancestral followers but was forced to part ways with them due to him being targeted by the bloody fingers, which makes me wonder if that weapon of his was the reason for them targeting him.🐱
An interesting model detail I noticed recently is the wormface deathblight mobs model is a normal body with a giant finger coming out of the neck, then worms coming out of the tip of the finger. Initially it just looks like an odd shaped body but if you look at the back arch you can see it’s 3 distinct knuckles
Regarding Magnus, there is mention of a Tarnished who befriended the Ancestral Followers, and who was gifted by them the Spiralhorn Shield. Although, you'd think Magnus would have wielded it if he was said Tarnished, so I feel like he was more so designed to look primitively savage-maybe more like a Demi-human. Besides, his weapon is made of metal, and Followers explicitly reject the use of such. (Speaking of, I always found it unusual that the Followers' blue eyes, hair, and skin have visual similarity to Ranni's doll form. It makes me wonder if Ranni's mentor might have been related to the Followers, seeing as some appear in the Consecrated Snowfield, a region with numerous yet subtle ties to Ranni.)
@awhellnah__ I was thinking more that the two moons-the usual one visible to the northeast, and the second to the north, but only visible from the Moonlight Altar-illustrate the Mountaintops of the Giants and the Consecrated Snowfield as having fundamental ties to Rennala and Ranni, respectively. Before even getting into the implications of Ranni and Miquella's connections, the Consecrated Snowfield is the only surface region with white bowers, normally only found in Siofra River, another region connected to Ranni's story. Astel reappears here as well, perhaps another subtle indication of the Consecrated Snowfield's "purpose." Lastly, and more just kind of curious, it's the only region where Rimed Crystal Buds grow, an ingredient used solely to create the frost pots devised by Ranni's personal adherants. Also it's snowy.

Same! I love the aethetics for an axe-wielding Champion. It's not unprecedented! Patch's/Lapp's set in The Ringed City was a cut armor set in the base game.
I like to imagine that the spirit in the manor that tells you about the spear, is the dead body holding the spear. Itd make sense seeing as hes the only one who refrences its existences
A yellow spirit in dragonbarrow is wearing the unobtainable champion's set, and I remember they were saying something about the dragons. I dont know if it's the same as the one from the Colosseum since i only saw it recently, but i haven't seen anybody mention that specific spirit in dragonbarrow with the champion set
A yellow spirit sounds like an assisting tarnished/summon, and the Champion’s set is very much attainable. I’m not trying to say you’re wrong, I just have no clue what you’re talking about
a extra thing about Magnus thats a nice QoL thing they did is that you dont need the questline active for his sign to appear. and should you have a Bloody Finger you can invade and kill him. then when you do Varre's quest, simply quit out to reload and that part of the quest auto-completes.
I like to interpret the humanoid silver tears as companion mimics, patiently waiting for their tarnished to return. Makes sense that a majority of them would appear in Nokron, scattered on the path to a blasphemous relic which might harm the Golden Order.
I'm not saying anything new but this remains the best video game lore channel on youtube. The Champion of Rykard is the spirit of the Justiciar's sovereign nobility; while the warrior-mage of Rykard became but another victim of the serpent, his eternal glory shines through, and gives you hints pointing you to the God-Killing Weapon. While he cannot speak, it is the truest form of Rykard's nobility, and he took the fight all the way to the Serpent's Lair... but for a God Devourer, he was little more than a skin for the snake to wear.

That too. You gotta explore Prison Town, and then he will start spawning at night. It's part of the natural progression of the story. You would get to Prison Town only after the first assassination, and being welcomed into the Recusants as one of them. Rya will them tell you about strange noises comming from behind the wall. You would then explore Prison Town and whenever you got back inside the Ghost would be ready to spawn and tell you to not trust the Recusants and Rykard.
Wait, so all you have to do to add player data to Fia's summon pool is to hug her? Well I guess it's time to make a bunch of really goofy theme builds and flood the pool with nonsense.
I think Magnus’ face is identical to the premade Champion class from the Beta, actually. Maybe when From decided to make Varré’s quest available to offline players they decided to take the old premade character model, slap some new gear on him to make him look like another player, and throw him in.

I didn't, and still don't, and as far as I know there aren't any hints that the alternate way to mogh exists, so I did my first playthrough assuming it was just impossible to get to him since i wasn't gonna fork over 60 bucks for psn+
3:14 - This one got me thinking when I first saw it in the game. These Silver Tear mimicries aren't dissimilar to one of the selectable character phenotypes - the Nightfolk, whose description mentions that they supposedly bled silver in the distant past. I can see two possible ways to interpret this. 1. The Nightfolk originate from Silver Tears that forsook the path of lordship (whether of their own volition or through their makers' will) in pursuit of trying to become perfect imitations of 'humans' (using the term loosely). Eventually, this succeeded to such a degree that the humanoid Tears were able to interbreed with existing populations, eventually becoming such peerless simulacra that they were literally indistinguishable - to the point where the inhuman qualities of the original Silver Tears gradually faded away. 2. The Silver Tears were made by the Nox, who seem to have grey/silver skin. Thus, the Tears' human forms actually would have fit in among the grey-skinned inhabitants of the Eternal City, and only seem like a giveaway to those intruding upon Nokstella.
Hey Zullie, I have enteresting curiosity that might be worth looking into if you haven't already. In Mogwyn's dynasty there is a seedling erdtree between all the big birds that has a golden seed loot as usual. However there is also a golden seed on some rocks higher up that can be reached with some risky jumping, I believe before heading into the cave that leads to the grace before Mogh. Curiously, from my experience at least, picking either of these golden seeds will cause the other to dissappear. Presumably these two pick-ups share the same item ID, similary to the items on the collapsed bridge in DS3 which you previously covered. It made me wonder if there are any other examples of this in Elden Ring.
@@vladislavgilyov6626 Turns out I mistaken myself. It wasn't a zullie video that I rememberd the shared item ID on the broken bridge in DS3 from, it was an Illlusionary Wall video.
Seeing that spot with the serpent-hunter again, is there anything notable about the one holding the weapon in place, or is it just a random corpse? The weapon being there also always felt weird to me. I doubt Rykard somehow missed the fact that it's just sitting there, so I'm wondering why he just left it as it was until we pick it up.
Its possible that its status as the weapon meant to slay him includes him not being able to touch or even perceive it. Or maybe his "Rule by the Strongest" philosophy compels him to leave it there so people have a fighting chance against him.
Considering his giant AOE's wouldn't surprise me if the champion was killed before he could demonstrate what it was, just another weapon of his weak foes
I mean, if Rykard is worried about that weapon's power, it wouldn't be too far-fetched he wants to keep it in his room where he can keep an eye on it personally. His only mistake was putting it at the door instead of right next to his throne like Yhorm.
It's also very possible that Rykard himself just isn't aware it even exists. He doesn't seem to even be conscious until you get to phase 2, so its highly likely the guy died to Phase 1 and Rykard never even saw it.
There's another rather inexplicable NPC who I at least don't recall in any of your NPC unmasking videos, that being Recusant Henricus, an NPC invader who attacks the player in front of the Limgrave colosseum. He's always stumped me because he's a recusant who's wearing the Eye Surcoat, implying some connection to Gideon. Whether that's because Gideon sent him inside Volcano Manor to learn of the recusants' activities, or if he's a turncoat who's joined the recusants for good is unclear. You also find the Eye Surcoat yourself on a body in Rykard's arena, of all places, which just thickens the plot further as to Gideon having some tie to the recusants (or just sending numerous pawns to their deaths scoping out Volcano Manor)
I've encountered all those NPCs besides the colosseum one, since I started playing in version 1.9 and only ever play Offline (with mods). I guess from my perspective the colosseums are still useless buildings since they don't have any offline content. Funnily enough, my archer character Artemis has a lunar colour scheme and ended up looking very similar to those Mimic Tears (though I was trying to mirror Ranni's colours in actuality). So they could probably mimic her quite easily.
2:07 you can actually fight these NPCs while online. if you quit out and reload your game while close enough to the summon signs the game will load the NPCs instead of other players.
interesting bt i think is that the mimic tears take what looks like the generic apearance preset thats supposed to be related to empyreans but i could be remembering wrong
1:57 - No way. If he'd been eaten, he'd have been absorbed into the bloodied mess of souls which serve/are the Serpent King. My first thought was that he must have escaped that chamber after being fatally wounded, and died in some remote corner of the Manor. Then, his status as a recusant & the Manor being actively set against the Golden Order allowed his spirit to linger, trying to warn others of what Rykard had become.

If you simply place a ledge between you and the clone, they'll mindlessly walk over the edge to their death.)
Funnily enough, the silver blood detail seems to be carried over from Bloodborne, in which the man-made kin of the cosmos bled quicksilver.
It’s likely that Magnus was once a savage man that eventually joined the Ancestral followers but was forced to part ways with them due to him being targeted by the bloody fingers, which makes me wonder if that weapon of his was the reason for them targeting him.🐱
What a fun and entertaining video this was! I love delving into these little side things and details
When using the Co Op mod for elden ring, me and my best friend encountered the Jar Knights. Very nice to see there was care for these lesser NPCs
it's so nice to be able to just relax and learn about some of our favorite souls games. Keep up the fantastic work Zullia! :)
I never knew that players likenesses were added to Fia's summoning pool when they hugged her! That is so cool! I love when games combine lore and gameplay like that!
I wonder if you have multiple characters, all of which have hugged Fia, and play offline, will Fia summon one of your own characters?
It’s fun until you get a moonveil spammer as one of them.
I think offline sets it to the presets no matter what unfortunately. I wish you could fight your own characters though
Just one of many things denied to anyone who wants to play the game with mods. This is my first time learning of such a feature too, but I'll never get to experience it since I'm never going to play without mods.
@@SotiCotolmfao man changes the game, then complains that his changes have changed the game. Peak first world problems and peak pc master race problems

Besides people cheated in online all the time in every Souls game, Dark Souls 3 was a nightmare. @awhellnah__
Maybe the real Elden Ring was the bosses we encountered along the way
They should have left the colosseum spirit for those of us on PS4/PS5 who refuse to pay for online.
Man, I wish the Brave Cord Circlet was obtainable legitimately in-game; it's a way better headband than the ones available rn.
I love that you show npcs faces without helmets/masks and the color of their eyes, I wish we could see every npcs faces
I hope the brave set ( colliseum npc) gets added with the dlc
Same. It would be awesome to have
What, Yellow spirit in dragonborrow?
A yellow spirit sounds like an assisting tarnished/summon, and the Champion’s set is very much attainable. I’m not trying to say you’re wrong, I just have no clue what you’re talking about
a extra thing about Magnus thats a nice QoL thing they did is that you dont need the questline active for his sign to appear.
and should you have a Bloody Finger you can invade and kill him.
then when you do Varre's quest, simply quit out to reload and that part of the quest auto-completes.
Man fromsoft even give attention to an obscured npc.
I wished fromsoft is my parents 🥺
Bro the music you use always has me vibing and dancing in my seat
I like to interpret the humanoid silver tears as companion mimics, patiently waiting for their tarnished to return. Makes sense that a majority of them would appear in Nokron, scattered on the path to a blasphemous relic which might harm the Golden Order.
@awhellnah__ Tarnished summon each other. There are millions of bells.
The npc outside the coliseum in limgrave always confused me because it made it seem like you could get inside later
Well, technically, you could. Much later.
I'm glad Colosseum Bro got his wish
I'm not saying anything new but this remains the best video game lore channel on youtube. No filler, no dumb AI voice, and the simple presentation sets it apart, letting the storytelling take center stage. Using text instead of voiceover matches the dreamy fairy tale feel of the games.
Keep it up. You are appreciated.
getting a close look at the ghostly gelmir night was interesting, i always saw him based on my more distant in game look (and not paying a great deal of attention) as a youngish man with black hair and a short beard
Everytime I wonder...who dislikes these videos? Why? What's the reason?
the silver eyes sounds interesting. would like to see more about the lesser known cut content
What sets From apart: There are no pointless details. Nothing is wasted. Every character has a backstory, no matter how small they may seem
I think the spirit is the burnt ashen body that gives you the dragon serpent for rykard since he says he owns it
fun fact, one of fias champions can use quickstep while holding a staff and shield. something that we can not do and is total bullshit
What about the "Sanguine Noble" that invades you near the portal to Moghwyn Palace? Because iirc that guy is also an actual player model character set up to look like one, and not an actual Sanguine Noble.
He shares a model and loadout with Nerijus I believe

Thank you so much for this, I really wanted to see Magnus and the spirits properly because I prefer knowing my cast as a fan artist. Magnus especially bugged me because he is a legit NPC and not any sort of placeholder (like, dude has a name!) but he was added AFTER you did the video with all the sliders so he was missing
Always enjoy your content and really enjoy your background music taste! Have a good one Zullie!
I’d really like to see a deep dive into how the summon pool works for fia and the great jarsonal
I'm quite sure more people than one might think battled the Knights of the Great Jar. Because the builds of players are just the worst to go against.
Crazy I've been playing this game since it came out and still finding brand new items and people
As an offline player I've been killing Varre on most playthroughs so I had no idea they added a way for me to complete his questline 😂😂
Never knew there were online and offline that's kinda cool :D
They seriously need to officially restore the Kale and Mimic Tear questlines.
Always happy to get a new Zullie video
I assumed Magnus was a follower like D and the Vulgar Militia.
Never knew about the Fia summoning pool and the Jar one since I've been playing in a seamless coop save for my first actual playthrough. Tried a couple times in vanilla but never got hooked like I did their previous games until a couple weeks ago.
Lamenting Spirit was just a teaser for upcoming Colosseum. Kind of a wink / easter egg towards those who played the game in early days.

@@MichaelRigoni I knew that first part, just never realized they got added at some point - I remember lots of people SPECULATING that it's gonna happen or that it was planned and canned, but I guess I just missed the news.
This is by far my favorite channel on YT. I just wish sometimes there was a voice instead of written text cause I often listen to YT while driving/doing chores etc.
the "unavailable" armour set of the collosseum NPC is now available in the DLC
Oh it's time of day that affects the Volcano Manor spirit? I thought it was tied to exploring Volcano Manor.
That colosseum spirit's armor is available in Shadow of the Erdtree!
Absolutely didn't know about the timing for the dead NPC of the Manor, I just got lucky the first time.
Wait, so all you have to do to add player data to Fia's summon pool is to hug her? Well I guess it's time to make a bunch of really goofy theme builds and flood the pool with nonsense.
I like the silver tear skin and eye colour, makes me want to do a Nightkin origin Duskborn play through
Do your suggest any connection between nightfolk and age of duskborn, or is it just a personal choice of character creation and roleplay?
"one set of NPCs the player may never encounter" laughs in no internet
The real missing or forgotten NPC character was today's sponsor all along
I think Magnus’ face is identical to the premade Champion class from the Beta, actually. Maybe when From decided to make Varré’s quest available to offline players they decided to take the old premade character model, slap some new gear on him to make him look like another player, and throw him in.
so someone is fighting my ghost self right now
I wonder if Magnus is the 'certain tarnished that cultivated ties with the ancestral followers.'
Also, doesn't Rykard's guy specifically say that he left the spear in the boos room? I always assumed he was the burnt corpse holding the spear.
@@LoboPal maybe that body really him💀 he looks like some dead spirit.
Oh god... At the end of the video the fire sound made me freeze in place, i thought my headphones were faulty.
2:35 HOLY FUG LOOK AT HIM! DOUBLE GREATAXE CHAMPION!
I WANT, I NEED THAT FACE DATA!
Golly, Elden sure is a mysterious game!
it's still insane to me how long it took for them to add a way to do varre's questline if you didn't have access to online. I didn't, and still don't, and as far as I know there aren't any hints that the alternate way to mogh exists, so I did my first playthrough assuming it was just impossible to get to him since i wasn't gonna fork over 60 bucks for psn+
The Silver Tears are actually just really big fans of the Rocky Horror Picture Show
I sure as hell remember Magnus. As a PvP scrub I figured Varre's questline was out of reach until they added him 😅
3:14 - This one got me thinking when I first saw it in the game.
Magnus could be a disgraced page given his hood
AFAIK Zulie already has a video about this
Could you link that video cos I have been looking through their videos and haven't found the topic.
@@DarkHypernova sorry, I haven't either. Could swear I've seen it somewhere. Maybe not from Zulie?
@@vladislavgilyov6626
Turns out I mistaken myself.
Personally, I'd say:
All of the above.
Weve seen another character with the title Beast Claw in Bloodborne. His name was Beast Claw Josef
I wondered where the colloseum ghost went, and i just got lucky with the volcano manor night ghost. I thought he was supposed to be there .
2:07 you can actually fight these NPCs while online. if you quit out and reload your game while close enough to the summon signs the game will load the NPCs instead of other players.
interesting bt i think is that the mimic tears take what looks like the generic apearance preset thats supposed to be related to empyreans but i could be remembering wrong
i didn’t know i was fighting my downbad self
She back
…is THAT why I kept having to fight phantoms with Swords of Night and Flame for the Great Jar sequence?
1:57 - No way. If he'd been eaten, he'd have been absorbed into the bloodied mess of souls which serve/are the Serpent King.
My first thought was that he must have escaped that chamber after being fatally wounded, and died in some remote corner of the Manor. Then, his status as a recusant & the Manor being actively set against the Golden Order allowed his spirit to linger, trying to warn others of what Rykard had become.
