- Sergei W. Rachmaninoff - Moment musicaux in E minor, op. 16 No. 4
Masterclass with Prof. Ilja Scheps; Student: Ning Shu Xu
Daniel Gronsfeld - Sound &Video
In his lessons Prof. Ilja Scheps discusses questions of interpretation, musical content, sound and piano playing technique.
I am currently working on this- my professor told me to play the left hand runs as a wave, so to phrase each new one as a new wave rolling over the next
It is so great to have something like this just available on UA-cam. Thank you so much for letting us take part in it!
What an amazing teacher and pianist! So kind, encouraging, respectful and humble. He really brings out the heart-wrenching expressiveness and gorgeous tone quality of the piece.
What a superb masterclass - Professor Scheps has such helpful technical insights about producing the right tone and phrasing for this extraordinarily rich and expressive piece. And he communicates in such an understanding and gentle manner.
Thank you very much it is such a great video with lots of things to learn. Vielen Dank 🙏🏾
i just started learning but it is interesting to hear the thought process and musicality when performing a piece of this level, helps me think for the pieces that i am learning right now
She plays a little bit "dry" as if lacking in vitality, while the professor tries to add some vibrat colors. Mr. Ilja feels the sadness behind notes that not everyone can feel. Although her technical proficiency remains admirable, the essence of emotion seems absent from her notes.
Yes, one thinks she might sound much better if she allowed herself to play from the heart more. Assert herself over the piano, over the technique. Use them, not be subservient to them.
She doesn't seem to be listening to him at all
So interesting suggestions on LH phrasing...since beginning
A great way to understand what he's talking about with the overtones, or harmonics, is to silently depress the RH E and G then play three measures of the LH without sustaining pedal and see how they sound after you've let go the LH. Try it!
the kids don't get deep enough, especially for Rachmaninoff. She tries to but it never comes off.
she too glib for the pathos of Rachmaninoff
What do you mean? What kids?
В восхищении!!! Я абсолютно не знаю английский, но как понятно, чутко...просто потрясающе! А девочка в процессе как заиграла!...Магия.... Спасибо 🙏🏼
Super
That’s really cool!
Amazing

Иля, now I want to hear you play the whole thing! Can you not make a recording of you playing this MM on this Bösendorfer?
Большое спасибо🎶❤️
I learnt a lot thank you❤️
❤❤❤
Bravo !Et félicitations ❤
Guy is too old 😂
With age comes wisdom and experience. Wonder how old you'll be when you leave the planet and how you'll feel about a comment like that if you make it to his age?
