the way he just causually said, "so yeah I just played through the whole piece" on day 2....
Its like 3 minutes long lol
@@thecalculatedcreativecoder1428 yeah but its hard
@@MuAlexJS It is. I just started learning it. It's not quite as hard as it looks tho. Yeah its difficult to get the speed, but it doesn't have many crazy techniques that are in some of Rach's other pieces.
@@thecalculatedcreativecoder1428 still. He memorised and did a play through of a difficult piece with difficult patterns
cool.. I've been playing piano all my life and I don't think I could do this in a week, haha
Man, nice job! That was solid! I’ve been learning the Rach concerto no 2 for the past couple of months and have realized Rachmaninoff really likes his complex simple melodies.
Nice, good luck with learning it! Yeah I think that's one reason Rachmaninoff's music is so popular. He has those simple and memorable melodies, but then a ton of counterpoint and running passages that make it complex
I'm an amateur, not classically trained, but have been playing on and off for 6 years. My favorite pieces that I mainly focus on are Chopin nocturnes but this particular song is on my wish list for songs to eventually learn. It was really helpful and enjoyable to hear how you learned it. Keep it up!
Well, I found your channel not too long ago. I used to play the piano but life got on the way, and lately I've been drawn to piano content and I can say I find your channel (and videos like these) so inspiring that I actually started playing again a little while ago. I really enjoy seeing what you practice and how you do it, and even though I'm nowhere near your skill level, this for me proves that with patience I may be able to get some really nice music out of my piano. Really appreciate the content and I can say that your channel deserves sooooo much more exposure!
Thank you so much, that honestly makes me really happy to hear! Just enjoy the journey, and lemme know if you have any more specific questions for practice!
dude that's awesome!
Congrats, good job. Excellent tips for approaching a new piece. Thanks.
Super !! Very talented !
OMG.....YOU KILLED ME !!!!
MAESTRO !!!!👌👍👏👏
Thanks! I will try your way !
I just started learning this one myself, and after looking at the sheet music, and noticing the constant patterns, the most intimidating part seems to be the tempo. The left hand is just figuring out the pattern for the most part. I’m excited.
Excellent. I wanted to start this piece. Thanks for your help 🔥🔥🔥✌️
Glad it helped some, you should learn it!!
I just finished to learn the prelude n 12 by Rachmaninov. So I wanted to try to move up a level now , with moment musical E minor 🙏🥲🔥✌️. Thanks
I have a lot of work due to studies right now and I have a 2 weeks vacations starting next week. I need to learn this during the two weeks or else I will never get the time to learn it..
You can do it!
Pareil du coup
@@flaviozanni3081 Weesh
It's also a favorite of mine. It reminds me of a waterfall.
I also get a lot of "nature imagery" with Rachmaninoff
💯!
yeah i’m gonna act like it didn’t take me a year and a half to play this without mistakes and how i’ve never been able to get it to the level of musicality that i desire.
Haha it's ok, I worked for many many years on a bunch of difficult pieces before I figured out my methods. Learning to learn is a process!
Currently preparing for a competition. This song is one of the songs that I still haven't fully learned, maybe because I'm delaying it or telling myself I don't have enough time. This is telling me I need to get a move on 🤣Thanks!
Hope the competition goes well!
WOW
I do similar things get the melody right and fingering. I learnt the piece in a day
This is so unbelievable for me. It would take me a year and I would play it so much worse then. I cannot understand how you are doing it in a week. You are so talented! Thanks for showing how you practice it though I wouldn‘t be able to do it that way for lack of basic skills and musical understanding (like practising in chords, I wouldn‘t know what chords, I see notes, I play notes 😬)
And this is awesome adaption. Like the way you play so much. There‘s so much „Rachmaninov“ in it.
Thanks for this! (And the scenes with very cute dog and lovely sunset colours!)
Over time working with deadlines I've learned how to learn pieces more quickly. For me a lot of it is grouping the notes into patterns, chords and phrases which is a lot easier to memorize than just playing through it over and over. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@joshvigranmusic I was so excited about your project and playing that I bought the sheets. They arrived today. I'll report back in two years and see how it goes.😆
WTF amazing in 7 days
Merci beaucoup....you are Amazing, I really wish you were my piano teacher 😊😊😊

@@kf31paris Je parle un peu français, haha
@@joshvigranmusic ah ouai ! Super, tu as appris où ?
@@kf31paris j'ai étudié à Cal State Long Beach (Cole Conservatory), Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, et University of North Texas. Désolé, mon français n'est pas très bon.
wow you actually learnt it
Just barely 😅
Great video, helped a lot with practising this piece. Just a little question, any reason why you use 521213 for the main run as opposed to 521324? Is it stronger? I have learned it up till now with the latter fingering but thinking of switching perhaps.
Glad it helped! There's nothing wrong with that fingering I suppose, and I think I actually tried it out. Personally I just felt the first one was stronger and keeping the thumb in place makes me feel more secure. I think I tried 3 or 4 options before settling on that
Don’t switch if it feels comfortable. I use that fingering and it feels great. I don’t like the idea of using the same finger twice in a 3 note sequence when it can be avoided (except for the thumb because it’s mechanically different and gets used like that often). Try playing the 212 as fast as you can and notice how often your 2 is going to struggle.
Really good job ! Could you tell me how many hours a day you practiced ?
I wanna say at this point I was doing 3-4 hours a day with maybe 75% of my focus on this piece. It was a rare chance for me where I didn't have a lot of musical accompaniment lined up so I got to focus on some solo rep
I noticed your sound panels in the room. Why did u install them? Does it help?
The sound panels are mainly for recording to get rid of weird acoustic sound reflections. You can always add reverb to a recording, you can't really take it away without warping the sound somehow. True recording studios are often far more dry than even this room
And the Chopin is from Kissin right?
I love this piece sm but idk if I can handle it. I’ve played winter wind by chopin before but I didn’t get it perfect before playing it on stage 😢
If you can play winter wind, you can play this. The technique is actually pretty similar in a lot of ways
@@joshvigranmusic thanks for your reply!! This made me very happy, but I’m just worried if the same thing happens to me if I don’t get the piece perfect before preforming it on stage.
@@ann1yx "perfection" is unattainable at the keyboard, haha. I only try to reach a decent level of command over the technique and to understand the musical language and structure 🙂
@@joshvigranmusic I also have a question, in your opinion, do you think winter wind is harder or this piece? (Technically)
@@ann1yx in my opinion winter wind is harder technically because the pattern persists for so long. This has more changes in the pattern, so it feels less taxing. At least to me it does...
06:29 brazilian meme.
you learnt one note wrong:D Its the e at 14:36. I did that as well haha. Great job though that is really impressive for a week!
Yes I think I realized this later haha. I am going to do a proper recording of it this year!
Also at 13:29 (there is a C in the left hand instead of a B in the a-minor 6/4 arpeggio).
I recently started learning this piece and noticed that same B in my own score (from a random online source). It only appeared in the first arpeggiated sextuplet, while the second one had a C. It didn't sound right, so I found another score online where both notes were Cs. I'm guessing the B was a misprint.
Phenomenal job on the piece, by the way! It's a technical beast for any pianist, especially the "recapitulation" section. Then add the articulation, dynamics, emotion, etc. and you have yourself a gargantuan task at hand (especially the left hand). What you were able to do in one week is pretty impressive!
Please move to France 😅
Can you share the sheet music with your fingerings?
Because of copyright reasons I cannot openly share these with the public, but I do share all my fingerings with my Patreon subscribers if they request it! www.patreon.com/josh_v_music

Adjust you finger numbers
Which fingerings should I adjust?
Velocidad muy bien ...Musicalidad 0 todo igual una lastima !!!lola...mento
Какой же противный язык этот английский
и что же в нем противного?
Okay well done. Now you've learned all the notes, time to learn the music. I heard all the notes but I did not hear the music. Please understand me it would take me at least 2 or 3 years to learn this piece and another 5 to learn the music. However, it is the third most important piece of music in my world. This piece represents my soul struggling to remain in my body. It sounds and feels like a great tug of war with the spiritual world and the physical world both pulling my soul back and forth. I get really emotional when I hear this piece most time I either shouting to the heavens with joy or I am weakened and laid low in tears. Brilliant job with the notes now find the hidden music. Rachmaninov always hides melodic gems in all the clutter.
I'm working on actually preparing it for recording. Of course there's only so much I could do in a week, but I agree there is a lot more that I could add and I'll be uploading the results soon!
