    Man, nice job! That was solid! I’ve been learning the Rach concerto no 2 for the past couple of months and have realized Rachmaninoff really likes his complex simple melodies.

      Nice, good luck with learning it! Yeah I think that's one reason Rachmaninoff's music is so popular. He has those simple and memorable melodies, but then a ton of counterpoint and running passages that make it complex

    I'm an amateur, not classically trained, but have been playing on and off for 6 years. My favorite pieces that I mainly focus on are Chopin nocturnes but this particular song is on my wish list for songs to eventually learn. It was really helpful and enjoyable to hear how you learned it. Keep it up!

    Well, I found your channel not too long ago. I used to play the piano but life got on the way, and lately I've been drawn to piano content and I can say I find your channel (and videos like these) so inspiring that I actually started playing again a little while ago. I really enjoy seeing what you practice and how you do it, and even though I'm nowhere near your skill level, this for me proves that with patience I may be able to get some really nice music out of my piano. Really appreciate the content and I can say that your channel deserves sooooo much more exposure!

    I just started learning this one myself, and after looking at the sheet music, and noticing the constant patterns, the most intimidating part seems to be the tempo. The left hand is just figuring out the pattern for the most part. I’m excited.

    This is so unbelievable for me. It would take me a year and I would play it so much worse then. I cannot understand how you are doing it in a week. You are so talented! Thanks for showing how you practice it though I wouldn‘t be able to do it that way for lack of basic skills and musical understanding (like practising in chords, I wouldn‘t know what chords, I see notes, I play notes 😬)
    And this is awesome adaption. Like the way you play so much. There‘s so much „Rachmaninov“ in it.
    Thanks for this! (And the scenes with very cute dog and lovely sunset colours!)

      Over time working with deadlines I've learned how to learn pieces more quickly. For me a lot of it is grouping the notes into patterns, chords and phrases which is a lot easier to memorize than just playing through it over and over. Glad you enjoyed it!

    Great video, helped a lot with practising this piece. Just a little question, any reason why you use 521213 for the main run as opposed to 521324? Is it stronger? I have learned it up till now with the latter fingering but thinking of switching perhaps.

    • @joshvigranmusic
      @joshvigranmusic  10 місяців тому +1

      Glad it helped! There's nothing wrong with that fingering I suppose, and I think I actually tried it out. Personally I just felt the first one was stronger and keeping the thumb in place makes me feel more secure. I think I tried 3 or 4 options before settling on that

    • @taiteyard3567
      @taiteyard3567 9 місяців тому

      Don’t switch if it feels comfortable. I use that fingering and it feels great. I don’t like the idea of using the same finger twice in a 3 note sequence when it can be avoided (except for the thumb because it’s mechanically different and gets used like that often). Try playing the 212 as fast as you can and notice how often your 2 is going to struggle.

      @joshvigranmusic  Рік тому +2

    I noticed your sound panels in the room. Why did u install them? Does it help?

    • @joshvigranmusic
      @joshvigranmusic  Рік тому +1

      The sound panels are mainly for recording to get rid of weird acoustic sound reflections. You can always add reverb to a recording, you can't really take it away without warping the sound somehow. True recording studios are often far more dry than even this room

    • @mikeshteyman826
      @mikeshteyman826 Рік тому

      I recently started learning this piece and noticed that same B in my own score (from a random online source). It only appeared in the first arpeggiated sextuplet, while the second one had a C. It didn't sound right, so I found another score online where both notes were Cs. I'm guessing the B was a misprint.
      Phenomenal job on the piece, by the way! It's a technical beast for any pianist, especially the "recapitulation" section. Then add the articulation, dynamics, emotion, etc. and you have yourself a gargantuan task at hand (especially the left hand). What you were able to do in one week is pretty impressive!

    Okay well done. Now you've learned all the notes, time to learn the music. I heard all the notes but I did not hear the music. Please understand me it would take me at least 2 or 3 years to learn this piece and another 5 to learn the music. However, it is the third most important piece of music in my world. This piece represents my soul struggling to remain in my body. It sounds and feels like a great tug of war with the spiritual world and the physical world both pulling my soul back and forth. I get really emotional when I hear this piece most time I either shouting to the heavens with joy or I am weakened and laid low in tears. Brilliant job with the notes now find the hidden music. Rachmaninov always hides melodic gems in all the clutter.
