I think that seagull was a symbol of her mom being with her, like an angel. This is one MAJOR reason I never go into the ocean, SHARKS!! And, I can't swim 😊 But the movie was SO unbelievably amazing! I was sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time! Blake is such an amazing actor!
I feel like humans going in the ocean is the same concept of spiders coming into our homes. 😅 You’re going into the shark’s home so your life is at risk 💀💀💀
I'd say the seagull is more some sort of metaphore for herself. Just like the seagull she was hurt, injured, just like she did with the bird she tried to heal herself, to move on, to survive. The main character is a person injured emotionaly, the shark itself is a metaphore of her grief for her mother : it's huge, threatening, overwhelming and it could devour her if she let herself go and basicaly gives up. By chosing to fight no matter what she ends up suffering but able to accept her grief and move on, that's why she almost looks sad when she looks at the dead shark. She is facing her grief and what's she's been through, not the animal. In my opinion this whole movie is a metaphore, that's why it's so damn unrealistic : it's not trying to be. There is a dead whale and the shark is seen feeding on it : Why does it stop to chase her ? He's got a gigantic amount of food he doesn't even have to hunt but at the very second she's in the water ! Pouf ! That's not how sharks and predators behave in general (should we see the dead whale as a metaphore for her dead mother ? The sharks feeds on it pretty much constantly, like there's not ending to what it can take from that corpse, just like the suffering of the main character doesn't end). That's unrealistic and that's normal : it doesn't matter. What matters is how the woman fights, strives, fights backs and in the end, survives, just like the seagull she helped. She went from a sea in which she was trying to escape her own grief to the solid ground, a broken surf board, and then gets backs to the sea, but not afraid and not trying to escape. The meteo makes the impression stronger : at first she is escaping her family to avoid thinking about her mom, everything seems fine, it's pretty sunny. And after, one attack leads to another and there are dark clouds, and yet we end up on her, back with her family, with her big scar but still able to swim, and the weather is brighter than ever. I don't know, i'm probably putting way too much thinking in a simple movie I liked, but i can't help but see this whole story as a metaphore for grief.
I think the seagull represented her mothers spirit guiding and protecting her through this ordeal. The bird gave her the strength to keep fighting for her life.
Birds has always been associated with divine spirits. In Christianity, the Dove is a symbol for the Holy Ghost, for example. Here, the seagul is a symbol for the spirit of Nancy's mother.
People pressed about her going back to the water, forgot the moral of the story, which is to NEVER SWIM ALONE in the ocean. Always have someone ashore keeping an eye out. That was her mistake.
Friendly reminder. If you ever pull someone out of the water like that, turn them over on their side. She could have drowned right there on land, had she inhaled that water, rather than coughing it up. Just because that idiot left her lying on her back.
LITERALLY! I looked through the comments to see if someone mentioned it. I just watched this thinking "Dude turn her around! Ever heard of recovery position? That water is gonna go right back where it came from!" No clue how she got it out while laying on her back.
Im glad that more and more beaches are using drones to watch for sharks. Also its far better to swim when you have a life guards. Hopefully they will have drones that will track you when you are swimming alone and imagine if she had some type of apple watch on so she could have communicated that she was in danger. Still its best to not swim alone.
she bein floated on land after being attacked by a big as shark for several days with a shark jaw bite over her whole leg and one year later being all heald up and going back in the water to surf with her little sister and their dad just chillin on the beach and bein proud of her takin her lil sis to all the sharks buddies
The scream us Texans scrumpt when we saw the words Galveston, Tx come across the scene in the theatre 😂 the chaos and laughter it caused had us all miss the end of the movie.
After Nancy survived and returned to Galveston Texas she took Steven seagull took him to an animal wildlife rescue center to fix his wing and release him back to the wild, or maybe Nancy would like to keep him as a pet.
After the shark attack, you'd think she'd invest in a chainmail suit the same that divers can get as it is resistant to cutting and tearing. But no, right back to page one with NO protection at all. Thats basically asking to die.
@@joewhitehead3 at the end of the movie she is shown to be surfing again. My point was she has ZERO protection from sharks even after being attacked the first time. Even divers have access to chainmail suits to protect against sharks.
As said in Rambo, "pride is a poor substitute for intelligence". I'll swim in the lake or my pool from then on. The ocean dwellers can swim on their own.
So at the end of the ending scene...one year later after she miraculously managed to survive her first nearly fatal shark attack, she goes back into the water on a surf board taking a younger girl along with her because...wait for it... SHE HASN"T LEARNED A DAMN THING!!! Proof positive that you can't fix stupid, which seems to be the lesson of this film.
@@damonrobus-clarke533: "facing her fear"? It was more like showing that she had learned NOTHING from her previous, horrible experience . Jaws, from Steven Spielberg, is the best shark movie ever made, No other movie before nor after has marked a whole generation worldwide with fear of even getting into the water. Script, music, an absolute masterpiece of direction and acting. The shark behaves and reacts in a real way. The fake never moving boobs and the so artificial veneers really spoiled the authenticity of this film for me. Lots of plastic surgery apparently. The Australian surfer girl who did all the surfing was great and gave this film its credibility. No surgery required. The shark moments were cool.
…… yeeeeeahhhh…. Hate to break it to you but that’s not at all what Galveston looks like.
