Encre Noire is just so masculine that you need to wear a skirt just to balance it out.
Definitely an affordable masterpiece!
Hahahahah hahahahaha!!!!!! A pink one with a pair of pink Pom Poms. 🦄🦄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
🤣🤣😂😂
I wouldn't go that far. Maybe a kilt😜
🤣🤣🤣🤣👌🏽 I'm dead!
Oh no! Not a skirt, but just suits darker skins, Mediterranean skins I would say. It is very very sexy and nice smell.
Funny, I opted not to wear this in the AM but am headed out for a run and will wear after my shower. I have both the extreme and this one. Always love your fun and detailed presentation Aaron!
Didn’t expect to see you here Antonio!
Which one do you like more? I have both too. I think Extreme is weaker than the original which is odd cus its edp. Theyre so different. I like the original EN more but extreme is great too, but its performance is a big problem.
@@jos.1839 it might just be jumping less off your skin cause less alcohol. I'm sure it lasts longer
@@patrickbateman4541 after 1 hour its gone. Zero projection. If I rub my hands together it activates something but is just on my skin.
@@patrickbateman4541 maybe my perfume is old, broken, was badly stored.
When I am in the mood, nothing comes close, masterpiece
I'm not a fan of sweet fragrances in the winter so this one hits the spot for me.
I agree. Love to spray it on before bed or on a rainy day. It's also one of the only fragrances that works year round and doesn't matter if it's hot or cold it works!
When I am in the hood, nothing comes close, masterpiece
@@jensmith1291" in the hood"? Lol
@@jensmith1291
Huh ?
It is amazing scent. It’s like being internally wealthy. The people who smell it are like damn what is that? It smells incredibly wealthy but not with money with more of an immortal being.
“Internally wealthy and immortal” is what Jeremey Fragrance said about it.. you are fkn cringe bro..
lol I like this
Definitivamente poético mi amigo! Dejo en sus manos el premio Cervantes! EN es un perfume estupendo!
It's the Fragrance Dracula would wear.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
After wearing this fragrance a bit I imagine someone with gothic vibes wearing it.
@championchap encre noire à l’extrême smells just like a log cabin when it dries down and a little in the opening, i feel like it’s superior to encre noire just by a little bit
@Anthony Breen Cause of this comment I'm blind buying it... Extreme version.
Lolol! Love it! So I just got it, sprayed it, wow its wet forest, witches weeds, sharpness, masculine. I do love it. Its very similar to another cologne I have. Odin Seylon 08, Odin is slightly sweeter and smooth, where Encre Noire has a sharper meaner scent. But they are similar. So cool. Wonderful scent. Dracula INDEED.
I truly enjoy how you project each fragrance as if they were a gentle melody playing, and appreciate your most honest and fair critique!
You're such a gem to the fragrance community. Unreal. I thought you were bullshittimg for the longest but with all my research, with your line of fragrances, with your videos and intuition....you're really that guy lol. When I search for a fragrance I look to see if you have a video on it first. You're really a staple in the fragrance community and I always see comments such as this giving you kudos which stalled me from giving you kudos but you sincerely and honestly deserve it. Thank you so so so much for your content. Please keep reviewing. So many including me look forward and up to your reviews. As a man I'm not overly excited to admit this but you gotta give respect and kudos when and where it's due. You are simply a badass and I wish I had a 10th of your knowledge. Thank you bro. Phenomenal Phenomenal content and knowledge.
Your descriptions are phenomenal. You are such a gem!
Encre Noir: Thano’s fragrance of choice
Nah thats Bentley absolute. It’s exactly like burnt wood.
I like this precisely because it's not sweet. There's too much sweetness around these days. Been searching for a dry herby fragrance and this fits the bill excellently. Nice review as always!
That's the review I've been waiting the most. For me it smells like nature as resembles a walk in a park passing by those whet woods.
I am so glad you did this review. This is one of my favorite fragrances, it reminds me of a days work in a wood shed crafting wonderous things.
Rate performance, projection and smell on a scale of 1-10
Great review dude! Keep up the great reviews
This is a truly brilliant frag. It just lifts your wardrobe to the next level
For sure you'll enjoy more Encre Noire A L'Extreme. Has that sweeter side you're looking for. Brilliant review once again
A very fair review, Aaron. I’ve tried Encre Noire, but it’s a bit too bitter and dark for my liking. I prefer the more resinous and oriental-accented Encre Noire Á L’Extreme, but my standard go-to vetiver scent is Guerlain Vetiver, due to its brighter tobacco, tonka bean and citrus accents.
Absolutely love your reviews! Such a great perspective getting a professionals view on all these fragrances we love and/or would love to try! I personally never grab or even gravitate to fragrances like Encre...I will either take a rich/sweet oud or a citrus freshie...Much love from Portland, OR!
Aaron you'll love encre noir al extrem. It's alot rounder and sweeter with a bit more vetiver up front. Great vid! Always love to see you review what I own lol
That's a great review Aaron! Lalique is a very underrated house that kind of flies under the radar of the mainstream market. Would love for you to review Lalique Hommage that's based around Violet leaf.
Thanks for not bashing it :D. I love this fragrance!! I really appreciate your reviews.
I love how honest this guy is. I love that he can say he doesn't like it but then say it's phenomenal for what it is. This is the video that made me interested in with this guy says.
i just stumbled over your channel. Love your expert knowledge and your talking in british accent.
Love this fragrance sooooo much.
On quiet days, I wear it straight.
On loud days, I layer it on top of a loud & strong vanilla base fragrance.
My absolute "Utility Knife" fragrance and potential signature scent.
As a Fountain Pen aficionado...this ink was made for me.
EDIT: Omg...your improvement suggestions are exactly what I've already been doing when wearing it out! Now I KNOW I'm on the right track!!
I love that you're so objective! It's not to your preference but it's good for others that loves this type and that's great!😎
I totally agree!
I love Lalique Encre Noire EDT 😍❤....Awesome review Aaron as always 😍🦄 .
One of my favorite dark vetiver fragrances. It's a banger for the money. Love it on cold days. Appreciate the breakdown on it Aaron. Have you checked out the flankers of it? I think this one fragrance started many journeys down the rabbit hole.
It did with me, too!
Hey Aaron1 I'm new to your channel and so glad I found you. Love your fragrance review style and cannot wait to watch more of your videos. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Thank you for your kind words
On Lalique's website it is more expensive. This leaves a beautiful dark vetiver trail. Thats the best thing about it. I love the whole Encre Noir line. L ' extreme is my favourite. Nice video Aaron.
Thanks for the sincere review! I just blind bought this because I wanted masculine to the extreme and saw it was the cologne of "death" and "wet earth" and I said - whoa, how unique!!
Awesome sir! Really enjoy your take on things and hope to aquire one of your fragrance creations soon. Please try Arabian Oud Arabian Knight .
The perfumer of this one- Natalie Lorson is a master of making cheap fragrances that smell at least three times the price. She did bentley for men intense and zadig & voltaire this is him for example 😁
That’s talent and skill right there
@@AaronTerenceHughes on behalf she's doing good money, on witch Im not against 😁. Cheap good an reliable sounds good for customer side.
Hello again Aaron! So I've since purchased the A L'Extreme flanker to the original of Encre Noire. I recommend perhaps reviewing that one as well. It's very well loved within the community and actually preferred by some over the original. I will tell you that I believe the flanker to be every bit the equal of the original!
Thanks for the video. Love the way you pick out chemistry and fragrance designer bits that I've not seen other reviewers discuss. I've never heard anyone else mention oakmoss in this fragrance, but I'm SO glad you said it! I sense oakmoss as well.
Apparently I'm one of few women who love Encre Noir. That sharp bitterness reminds me of sitting on a hunk of granite outcropping at the edge of woods, full sun blazing on that rock. Dry, bitter, bright. The flecks of quartz within the granite blinding in the sunlight (I think some of that flashy brightness are synthetics...?) Somewhere off in the background is slightly damp forest. Not wet, the creeks have pretty much dried up for the season, but enough damp to keep the woods alive.
That was one of the most beautifully written comments it has been my pleasure to read. I believe you have a poet’s soul. Wonderfully refreshing in the age of emojis, bulleted lists and acronyms.
Right on in the description. Incredible work by Aaron. Very dry but awesome woodsy, acidic, sharp scent. Masculine. Disciplined. Focused. Wait until the fade though. A niche scent. I hear him regarding the fruit idea. Maybe a tiny bit to balance out the intense dryness.
Really appreciate the editing when you lower the music volume when you're talking, also nice review!
Nice review, this is without doubt one of my favourites
Love your reviews!! I’m actually a huge fan of this fragrance and the A L’Extreme! I’ve never much like feminine fragrances and yes this would smell very nice with some vanilla but I’m still in love with how it smells and I actually get some unexpected compliment when I wear it. Such an amazing cheapie! Also I live in the USA and I can not wait to try all your fragrances! I’m madly in love with sandalwood right now because of Santal Majuscule so I’m hoping u have a really good one for me:)
can women wear this ? the a l'extreme version
Nice review Aaron , I have the extreme experience version of this fragrance which I enjoy wearing
Love your videos, they're always informative and super chill. Would love to see you review Halloween Man X; it's a great coffee based cheapie!
Wow! I have never seen you react to a fragrance like that... Encre Noir is a gem of gems!
I own Encre Noir. I pretty agree with your review Aaron. Great reviews! That balance of cypress and very dry vetiver molecules gives the smoky effect to my nose.
Aaron, i discovered you be pure chance, i gotta hand it to you, you seem to bring a fresh breeze over the youtube fragrance review market. I see a cerebral individual, well anchored in this ophtalmic domain. Hat down!
Just got this fragrance as my first with vetiver. I’ve heard it’s a note that you either love or hate and I think for the price the scent is phenomenal. The way you describe and completely dissect a fragrance is amazing and I can’t wait to try some of your creations.
So did you like it? i haven’t tried a fragrance with vetiver either, n i would really like to try this, and i’ve heard that people get nose blind with this one super fast(high use of
iso - E super) and think that the performance is lacking , did you face this?
Thank you Aaron " your video made me purchase this again, I remember the strong ink smell and masculinity projecting off this scent 😌 it comes in as one of my favorite mens fragrance. 💓 love your reviews
Thanks for sharing!
Waited on this review :)
Really love this. I think you will like the Extrême version more. Had I been living in a cooler country, this would have been my signature fragrance. Nice review as always. How is Boobs doing, hope he is better now.
Damn, I laughed all the way through your review...Encre Noire really had you on the ropes 🤜🏾🤜🏾👊🏾😂😂. Enjoyed it thoroughly 😅
Just stumbled across your reviews and they're great. Thanks. By the way, you hold the world record for the least amount of time taken to actually start the review which is a huge plus (longest so far is 4:27) so Ta for that too.
Got this last week. I love it. You walk in a gloomy, foggy, ancient scandinavian forest. You sit down and grab a handful of dirt. You smell it. Earth, wood, barque, moss. Just beautiful. By the way, you're great Aaron.
@@M_Ladd I can only hope.
I love your Pali tattoo, "Buddham saranam gacchami"! Just the script alone is a cool idea, but the way you have the tattoo done is so unique and interesting! Just like you, so it makes sense. :) Hope you are well, thanks for the review!
I hate that I love it, but I do. Your review was spot-on.
Well done Sir!
I have not bought this frag, but I bought the "Sport"-Version and the "extreme"-Version.
Vetiver? I am growing on it. And Natalie Lorson did a great job on this.
Thanks for the effort.
Your reviews are in another level, it would be amazing to see a review of blessed baraka and rehab from Initio
The Encre Noir sport (which isn't a sport at all) is really really good! Should try that!
The Encre Noir sport is light but boring, i prefer guerlain vetiver which exactly the same but more intense and also very cheap. Guerlain vetiver opening maybe harsh but after 30 mins it become smooth , fresh and clean Vetiver
@@dmt99vn I agree about the dry down on Guerlain Vetiver, as I've had the same experience and like very much, but disagree about ENS. ENS is great if it agrees with your skin and is not boring at all. In fact, being lighter than the original EN is not a bad thing at all, as it can be worn at office, which I really can't wear EN and based on Aaron's review of EN, he may actually prefer it.
It really is an excellent addition with the Grapefruit and lavender. So easy to wear, yet not half as boring as anything else "fresh" on the market. And the price is a steal, plain and simple.
You may have already answered this, do you have plans to review the other two in the series?
For whatever reason Encre Noire makes me think of a wet wooden ship, or like a very damp forest. I kind of love it for that reason. I can see how it's not for everyone and I FULLY agree, fragrance would be so mind-numbingly boring if we all liked the same stuff. Variety is the spice of life!
I remember the first time I smelled this fragrance I didn't know what to think about it. I had never smelled anything so dark, bitter, dry, and just plain different. Now this is one of my favorites along with luadano nero by tiziana terenzi
Yeah me too. Its very unique
True masterpiece Fragrance. Can't beat it for the price. Autumn / Winter wear only though..Beast mode for about £20 for 100ml. Natalie Lorson is a genius...
This is one of the best frag I have ever smelled . I was scared of the reviews but after I got ,I couldn’t understand it for the first smell . It’s just a wonderful smell. I have been smelling all the time
I love this fragrance. I don't always want to wear something sweet so this hits the spot in the winter. You should really try the flanker Encre Noir Al'extreme which definitely has some sweetness to it
..or layer a bit of sweetness with another scent
The extreme is a beautiful fragrance I love it
Man I can listen to your voice whole day 👍
Wow, thanks
I enjoyed hearing your take on this... I'm a fan of it, but I like the Sport version even more.. would like to hear your take one day on it... has a nice citrus watery touch to the darker vetiver note..
I used to wear this on rainy days or when suiting up when I was 16 lol. Really liked it reminded me of ink and a wet forrest on an autumn day after rain. Have to try the Extreme next
Love the review Aaron! come to think of it, have you tried the a l'extreme version? it's supposedly much more wearable and more "complete", with some sweetness added to it.
I use this fragrance in winter.
I think is one of the best vetivers on the market, if not the best.
(And certainly the cheapest)
It also has some of the best flankers on the market: The sport? version and the boozy "A l'extreme".
Both equally great...
That was fortuitous. I was just thinking "I haven't seen a video from Aaron lately, I wonder if I missed a video release" and them boom. Here we are! lol
Thank you for the delicious content as always. I find your videos very relaxing, entertaining, and informative as a fragrance lover. Very appreciated!
🦄🦄🦄❤️❤️❤️
I love it got it for few months now but the dry down after 2-3 hours is just amazing
great review! Thumbs up!
You analyzed the perfume, something I can't do. For me this perfume reminds me of burnt, but nice, which doesn't make any sense to me. I feel like a very young boy transported back into the 1970ies...
Much love from Iraq
Keep up the good work and the lovely reviews
منورين
Natalie Lorsen the perfumer on this one also did Bentley for men Intense and Zadig and Voltaire This Is Him. I have and love all three. Nice review.
Thank you
So do I and I love all three🤩 did not know that this is him was also crafted by Nathalie Lorson... wonder if encre noir could be used for layering to pimp up weaker fragrances, because it is so straight forward woody and masculine...
Aarons Review is spot on as usual👍
Amazing video as always. You just may want to try Encre Noire' A L 'EXTREME . A bit more depth in that one, with the addition of Bergamot on the top, as well as Patchouli, Sandalwood, and Benzoin in the base.
i bought this a little while ago and intially i really loved it. still like it but not as much as i did at first and as I've bought more orientals this has taken a back seat
actually if you layer animalix under it, it improves it IMO
def a masterpiece for the price - and yes its v potent
as others have said the perfumer did bently for men intense - which is AMAZING
I just ordered encre noire and also the l’extreme flanker. The reviews have been polarizing, the fans and haters of it all have things to say that I find fascinating. I’m excited to get these! I don’t see how I’m not going to love them both
This one stands out, very dry, masculine, yet powdery and cozy. Very graceful drydown.
Just got a bottle, very refreshing change of pace from all the sweet "masculine" fragrances out there. This is like old school but doesn't smell like old dude. Very good, vetiver note is beautiful
This is my go to for rainy days. It's a dirty vetiver/very dark fragrance.... I don't wear it for compliments, but some people do like it or it piques their curiosity. It has strong performance, especially for the price... for the price it's amazing overall. I do notice that the extreme version is much more popular
I tested this today and fell in love with it. I wouldn't wear it, since I'm not a woman who likes wearing very masculine fragrances, but being a fan of Lalique and having read the intriguing reviews, I *had* to smell this stuff. It's...special.
I found it very strong at first too, but there is just something about it that is irresistible. It's not pleasant exactly, but it's quite something.
I would buy a small bottle just to be able to smell it sometimes.
Dear lady, thank you so very much. I was on the fence about this one. One of my litmus tests is whether or not a fragrance is very masculine or not. I’m not partial to unisex fragrances. I am a man and I like to smell like one. Your comment cemented my desire to acquire this fragrance. I hope you have a wonderful day.
Hey Aaron, great video as always! Havent tried it but I'll likely give it a try at some point. Have you tried anything from Argos Fragrances? I'd love to know what your thoughts on them would be. With the way they talk about the ingredients, it seems like they use a lot of high quality ingredients. I'd recommend either Triumph of Bacchus or Brivido Della Caccia, they're masterpieces in my eyes.
I would love to see you review the l'extreme and sport flankers, i think you would prefer them tbh.
Hi Aaron, i know that you have other fragrances to review and one video is meant for one scent but the flankers of ancre noire are really worthwhile, and just in case if you’re gonna pop in a frag shop just give them a sniff because they have kind of more complited compositions as apposed to the unlively original
This is a beautiful fragrance for me. However, everyone is different and I very much appreciate your honest take on Encre Noire Aaron! Now, if I may, please try layering this fragrance with another that you reviewed on your channel, Dunnhill Icon. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised with the result!
It’s a very gorgeous scent ..I love the smell of it ...
Was my scent of the day. One of my favorite fragrances, in particular for rainy and/or humid days (others being Guerlain Vetiver, and Terre de Hermes Parfum.) Today I layered it with a bit of Molecule 01 for the 1st time, was not disappointed, just that ultra soft cedar-like hint added.
PS. I have the three Encre Noires, this one is my favorite. It does transport me to my childhood when drawing with ink. The fragrance does make me travel in time because of that inkiness in the fragrance. The other two flankers don't, and no other fragrance that I've smelled can do this, no other is as "ink-like" as this one. Only actual ink, which I have not smelled in quite a while, but ink is no fragrance anyway, or migth be, but would be quite a messy one :)
I love this one. Only one I always have a backup of.
I spray 2 sprays under the front of my shirt every day - and sometimes 1 on the back of my bald head. And THEN I apply the scent of the day - whatever it might be - and go out in the world.. Makes me happy.
Nice review ,never tried it..But i love the sport version of this ...Try that and THE extreme version
Aaron on some of your fragrances you recommend 8-12 sprays, 4 on damp skin. Can you elaborate on this and possibly go over how/where/why you spray your fragrances?
After 2-3 days of wearing...im absolutely addicted to it. For this price a Masterpiece
I personally really “like” Encre Noir and particularly the inky note which is probably what you are describing as vinegary. I appreciate your thoughts.
👍🏻
Amazing ! I Love it !
(very nice review btw)...
"Encre Noire" reminds me a lot of "HE WOOD ROCKY MOUNTAIN by Dsquared2" that unfortunately has been discontinued.
Although it's stricter and bitter is excellent !!!
In the dry down I get a dark chocolate note which I love smelling.
Great fragrance and think the bottle looks fantastic
I couldn't agree more on the quality and value for money. I personally do like this fragrance (it's the vetiver that does it), however like many in here I prefer the à l'extrême version, which is longer lasting, smoother, and also slightly sweeter on account of the beautiful smoky incense note it has. They definitely share the same DNA though, so I suppose whether you liked that one would come down to whether it is different enough from the original
Objectivity over subjectivity is what makes ATH truly awesome! Another well balanced review with a bit of learning, as usual... THANK YOU!
And oh, you might want to try Encre Noir A L'extreme flanker, it just might be the answer to your suggestions.
Stay safe and stay happy always! 😊
Great review!
You should check the Encre Noir Sport also, got that fruity touch
All the best!
I have bought so many cologns on blind buy that other videos talk about. You seem to be reviewing all the ones I have gotten, recently just got my Yves Saint Laurent Intense. Its really good, I wish it lasted longer. What a smell on it though, so warm and sexy.
All the Encre Noire's are very unique. Natalie's nose is superb.
A rare case of someone reviewing a scent I have!
I'm interested in your view - because I am never sure how much I like it either.
Differently to you, and most people, however - I find it remains sweet a long time. Formerly I though it was just a different sense of smell, but from what you've said - I now wonder if maybe the sweet note just remains on my skin longer.....
I know that even scents which are known for their strong projection - tend not to project on me, and that scents which aren't meant to last, often last quite long on my skin. I assume those facts are related - the lack of projection means they don't 'wear off' (some scents have still been smellable as a skin scent 4 days and an equal number of showers later).....
As you are a chemist and a perfumier - do you think this hypothesis for why I think it is sweet is plausible?
Alternatively, if you have any advice for how I could increase projection - that would be great too. I have pretty dry skin I would say, it would be nice if people other than me could smell my fragrance choices (note: one of the few which did project was le Male - unfortunately, something in that gives me a headache.....)
When I first saw Aaron on Chris’s channel I couldn’t wait for him to smell this so I could hear his opinion. The more I watched Aaron the more I knew exactly how he’d feel about. I knew it would be too dry and bitter for him. I prefer the Sport version personally because of the citrus and lavender on top.
encrenoire sport next please? 😩😩😇
really good video!
Crazy cheap for this, might just add it to the collection..
Cool review as always.
I own this but I must admit that I have to be in the mood to wear it! It smells like walking through the woods on a damp day! Which sometimes, I love!
on rainy day xd
One of the most unique fragrances. But with my clown-like personality, I don't find myself wearing this often. Great review as always, Aaron.
i blind bought this and really enjoying it. It changes pretty fast from dry freshness in some sort of way to cozy woodyness. Its hard to explain to someone who hasnt smelled it. I could see someone like professor snape wearing this. Beautiful scent.
I could hardly smell this one the first time I wore it. But it got a lot stronger and sweeter as it's sat around for a few months.
