    1) Have AIM in life; be mindful of directions, goals, dreams, aspirations, intentions - got to be able to keep focus on them
    2) Pay ATTENTION - guard attention from all negative, unhealthy or pointless distractions
    3) Choose an ATTITUDE about life that is open, positive, enthusiastic, grateful, constructive and ultimately good
    4) Allow AFFECTIONS throughout life; the people we effect, effect us, are affectionate towards; share love & connections
    5) Take ACTION in life - not just talk or think, DO! what we do repeatedly over time becomes who we are
    Thank you Brendon for your distillation and luminations.

    Oh I love this part soooooo much! "If we're not overcome with emotion ... and just connection and ... and we [don't] just want to grab someone and kiss them all over the FACE.. then you know what? We're not paying attention to people anymore. We got too trapped in our own thing. Other people...they should FASCINATE US. We should be EXCITED to meet them! Our brain is hard-wired to love novelty. Well guess what. We got 7 billion people that can give us that dopamine drip just by talking to them and connecting with real emotion with them."

    You talk about taking personal responsibility, taking control of our emotional state and loving people; Yet you emphasize the look on people's faces and heavily judging them. Heck, they could be suffering from neuropathy, where literally every step they take is steeped in pain! It's easy to love people who gratify us, but it's truly loving to love the challenging ones in our daily walk. Love equals no judgment, just moving on after eye contact and a smile.

    I love the personality of this guy. He's just like a golden retriever. It's so refreshing to see someone like him who offers great advice and guidance but isn't depressed or serious like the others, who use their pain to get here and hold on to it as a motivator instead of letting it go and becoming better, you know, all those inspirational videos that sometimes seem like the person who is talking is either mad, disappointed or very bland towards you. But him? He's so refreshing, I love to see such a happy person talking about these things, thank you so much brendon! Your videos are great, keep doing what you do (:

    Brandon, sometimes the reason for people who develop bad and negative attitude is because of their lack of ability which could have been caused by their surroundings and the environment they grew up in. For instance think about a child growing up in a very rough area full of criminals and other types of negative people! To avoid being lonely and left alone this person realizes that he has to follow the waves and will get drowned into the sea of ignorance without having a chance to develop a mind of his own and decide his/her own future! I just want to say that sometimes social issues would lead to a person becoming miserable and it is not his/her own fault or lack of motivation!!

    • @morningglory3644
      @morningglory3644 10 років тому +24

      I understand that we can easily become influenced by the people around us and the environment we grew up in, but we are not victims of our environment. We always have a choice, as Brendon said, we choose our attitude. Our attitude does not choose us. I came from a broken home and I almost fell into that vicious cycle of negative behavior because I absorbed it throughout most of my life. I had to disengage from a number of people in my life just to keep my sanity. I strongly believe that if you deeply desire a better life for yourself that is more positive and healthier, then you can have it. You have to be the one in control, meaning replace the negative with the positive, don't allow everyone's negative attitude affect you and look at how living in a rough area made you tougher and smarter. You just have to believe in yourself because I have seen miracles happen! I have seen people come from nothing to having the lives that they have always dreamed of. They stayed focused on their goals, learned to help themselves and did not give up! I learned a valuable lesson…life is not about achieving a goal, but it is about learning to not give up on yourself!

    • @eshgholah
      @eshgholah 10 років тому +5

      What happens if you really have not been taught what is the right thing to do? It all depends on your perception of right or wrong!! You might do something horrible but think that you have done the right thing!!! So before knowing what the right thing is you cannot do it!!!!

    • @eshgholah
      @eshgholah 9 років тому +13

      Sorry, maybe you did not think in depth when I mentioned the environment problem. What you are talking about sounds good in case the environment has not had an impact on your mindset. If your environment has stopped you from developing an analytic mindset then what you say is very difficult. Think about a guy growing up in a ghetto and started drug dealing from an early age and only surrounded by people who have dragged him into this hell, then it would be almost impossible for him to change his mindset and start an ordinary job. I think your suggestion is good but considering the reality out there, you are portraying a Hollywood scene.

      Alex, I grew up in a not so great neighborhood with not so great parents. It was pretty rough and I understand everything that you said. And when you've been conditioned to think and react a certain way from childhood it's very challenging to break. I'm just thankful that we have angels just Brendon out there that can tell us how to break free from that kind of negative thinking. But just like us being fed negativity for many years during our childhood, we have to feed our minds with positivity continuously by listening to motivational speakers and reading books on how to change our stinkin' thinkin'. God Bless. :)

      Start always by being THANKFUL and grateful for what you do have. If you don’t do that. How can you expect more? I find that so many say they “can’t. It’s not that -it’s that they won’t. Take a step toward something . Don’t even let yourself go towards depression! It’s harder to pull someone out of a pit, then it is from getting into one (depression). You are the driver of your own life. Take the wheel! Don’t be emotional be rational. Your time is more valuable then $$$. And you only have “so much” time. You have to also enjoy and live in the moment. Also happiness is a CHOICE. People will die trying to make you happy. And you will drain their battery. And still complain. Appreciate others too, especially those who do good and help you. Noone likes being taken for granted either.

    "When your attitude is open you're allowing yourself to learn." This is a HUGE subject for me! Taking responsibility is the ability to respond. If you're taking responsibility you're not whining or complaining. You're not gossiping. You're certainly NOT a victim! (This coming from a former victim ; ) Taking responsibility is not about right vs. wrong. If you're here listening you're on a path to self improvement. If you resist the message to "take responsibility" you're resisting a HUGE lesson to move your life forward. It's your choice . . .

    It's a lot of inside work. Internal, inside your mind work, and self-control as far as emotions go.
    Thanks for continuing to share your inspiring words =).

    You are Brilliant & Inspirational, I was listening and watching some music videos thinking about life-seeking direction etc... A clip of yours played between videos, many of the things you speak about I have been working on, I'm just in awe of the the magic you describe we have at our fingertips if we just direct our attention, stay focused, simply allow ourselves to feel and enjoy life... Thank you so much, I'm serious, you are powerful, I am a fan... Life truly is as good as we make it... bottom line...
    Thanks, Toni

      Hey, Toni: In addition to Brendon's awesome encouraging and teaching videos, check out Anthony Robbins--his talks and his program BreakThrough, as well as Marie Forleo. There is also a book by Susan Jeffers titled Feel the Fear and do it anyway, and another by Mel Robbins titled Stop Saying Your Fine. Just sharing all this because of the, so far, 5 1/2 year journey I've been on with the free helps online from these people and the 2 books I bought on eBay for a great price. Frame of mind is where we all leap from and I'm super grateful to have discovered these people. Take Care and Be Happy.

    Hey, i've made a summary, read this as if telling this to urself:
    Personal responsibility will make my life better.
    There are 5 things i need to control to be more responsible of my life:
    First is i have to have Goal(s) and actully, albeit little by little, going there. Even when i dont have the full picture of what it is, just a hunch is enough. (knowing what i want will make me feel that my life is my own adventure, it's my choice, i'm not pushed around by anybody. I'm doing this because i know what i choose is getting me nearer to my aim/goal.) i need to choose my aim, because if not, people woll choose it for me.
    Second, i have to be more attentive, fully present to this moment and focus on what we should be paying attention to based on my aim, it'll make me more focused to accomplish What i want. Choose to be there. Open atitude, lead to me able to learn new things, connect with people, creating happiness. I could generate happiness.
    Third, attitude arent fixed, i could generate it, for me, and then people around me. Attitude is a choice.
    I need to control my affection, if i could control the emotion i have for the day, i'll see the beauty in the long run florish. It's like carefully nurturing a plant. Even if it's easier to choose victimized myself, even if it feels good to not have responsibility, like a victim. Nurturing my affection object is risky, it takes resposibility to takes risk. Love never hurts, ego hurts. Emotions will make my world more colorful. My brain is wired to novelty.
    Fifth, i need to control my action, my behaviours. What am i doing everyday? Whatever it is, it's adding to my character, to who i want to become. What do i want to be and achieve when i dicipline on taking action to chase it? Once in a while, look back, and see what i've achieved, it'll make me confident and not lost.
    Personal responsibility is important as it'll bring more satisfication towards myself in the long run.

    As much as I really like this guy and respect him, he seems to be talking more toward people who don't have mental disabilities, such as major depression disorder. I have had this for over 7 years of my life, and it consumes you, sometimes people like us do not have a choice weather we feel happy, enthusiastic etc... Because up until recently I am and was one of those people who saw darkness every single day of my life, depression took over every aspect of my life and I would wake up everyday already knowing the day was going to be another day I wish I wouldnt' have to deal with this illness. However I have begun to implicate this guys advice into my daily life, and I believe over time that even with a disorder you can program your brain to once again always be in a positive attitude even though life is throwing you day after day of none stop stress and other bullshit.

      The Chance Can I ask what your treatment or physician says about Depression? I'm not trying to be intrusive however Depression is something I dealt with in my past and I keep seeing different perspectives on what it how people start feeling the depressed feelings. Just wanted to share what I know if you are up to my understanding of this.

    • @thechance6115
      @thechance6115 7 років тому

      Yea i actually had to reread it twice, I'm not sure if your looking just for my way of going about this whole 7 ish years of depression hell mixed with what else i said in the previous message, or your looking for advice, either way I've had a lot of people at work etc come up to me asking for opinions and or help dealing with any sort of issue in their life because i consider myself to be very enlightened when it comes to the way life really should be etc... I can feel every emotion that goes on around me without even talking or knowing the person, in which case my thought process and ability to accurately put myself in someone else's shoes/state of mind i can do very efficiently which gives me a good idea on how to guide them etc... I want the world to be a lot less fucked up then it is now, that in itself is extremely frustrating on a daily basis along with trying to fix my own mind to cooperate with me. Again anywho whatever your intention is for wanting to chat i ask find a way to contact me other then this comment section if you are serious about it.

      The Chance I'm truly interested and I have a lot of insight into mental health and personality disorders as well as trauma and psychology and neuroscience etc. I subscribed to your channel, so can you talk through that ? I have all night and day to discuss this and this passionately is something I want to advocate in near future. Let me know. I going to read what you wrote. Thank you for your vulnerable and radical honesty as I'm the same exact way.
