FYI, just discovered the rubber ring on the lanyard can be used to unscrew the lens bezel!
I wonder if that is enough to spin it off with force. will see on a later vid for sure thanks I just looked at the pkg and I go tthe diaphram away/
@@fishycomics The ring is pretty much the same diameter as the bezel and if you cup it with your hand, can apply some pressure and twist. It will slip some but after a couple tries the bezel came loose and I was able to unscrew it the rest of the way.
@@arie1293 thanks this camera was given away and my good one if I ever need to replace the lens I will keep that in mind
I haven't found a replacement lens for the 2017. The 2016 lens is smaller and incompatible. What I am currently trying to determine is the best way to just remove the protective lens so I can get another use or two out of it while I wait for my new Ricoh 360 to come in.
Something I just found out while taking mine apart. Use the rubber ring for the base of the gear to unscrew the aluminum ring around the lens. The rubber ring fits perfectly right over the aluminum ring and you just have to use your palm to apply pressure and then twist.
I had the same overheating issue. I was using the same Micro SD card as you, also. I found out 2 things from Samsung. 1st) the Rubber Ring, attached to the lanyard, is what you are to use to remove the Lens Bezels. 2nd) You must use a Micro SD card with a Data Tranfer Rate GREATER then 93Mb/s. Samsung assured me that my Data Rate was to low, and trying to record 4K on a slower card would cause any 4K camera to overheat in 8-10 minutes. I bought the highest speed Micro SD card on the Market and replaced my card with it. I can now record 4K 360° video for 5+ hours, with NO overheating issues. I am only restricted by the card capacity at this point. I have my Gear 360, mounted on 1 of my Drones, and get aerial photography so incredible, I actually can make people motion sick. Hope this helps!

I tried to open it and by hand using 4 fingers without any scratches at all no need for tools except for the screws!
Could you let me know if the 2016 model lens protection is compatible with 2017?
Samsung purposally made this a throw away. it is a mm shy of a fit. you do not need to have the outer lens on if once it's scratched.

I thought you would take it a step further. I am just now running another overheating test. Let's see how long it takes now. Would be nice to have the same number every time. If not, then it must be software.
Lol. I started to take the other twelve screws out, and the ring I did not want to damage as well? I did run a test while open and well not worth it. so I went ofr a bike ride and got a few minutes per in my mind please do not over heat. and I was good all the video's came out they were under 5 minutes on the Evo select 128 card. I have stitching issues maybe because the ring I did not screw tightly back on. who knows will see on the board walk ones.
The stichting in this video was probably because one lens was pointing towards the sun, and the other wasn't.

Samsung made this as a throw away. you can remove the lens, but you can not purchase replacements, unless a 3rd party makes one. You can use it w/o the lens protector.

Side Comment: Since you mentioned that your camera overheats, It overheats because of the kind of Micro SD card you are using. I tried a regular Sandisk 64GB and it overheats. When I tried my Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB card, no instance that it overheated. The heat is generated when there is a bottleneck of the data writing on the card.
Do try the Sandisk Extreme Pro. It is rated at 90MB/s write speed.
Wished thart was true, its a over heating issue I have three great cards top of the line all three it overheats.
This was not a tear down as you did not strip it to its core, you just took the cover off? Why didnt you take all the screws out?
