First off thanx for making the vids. you were one of the original vid makers i started watching.. i just go a Larkspur.. Its a little crispy for my taste. Any bad come from throwing it in the wash. i havent washed any of my maxpedition gear in the actual wash machine yet.. thanx again...
@Efetida I assume you don't mean like an outdoors 3-day...? For a non-outdoors trip the Larkspur might very well do it. It's a large bag but I found I had to really jam my stuff in there for a 3-nighter. (Then again, I had a huge hair dryer in there). I've not seen a Sabercat but the Mongo might be a a tad on the small side. Might do ya for an overnighter though.
@gratspet Very cool, thx Grat! Everything you read will tell you not to wash the bag. Mine was definitely very stiff before I washed it and very loose and wrinkled after. I liked it washed but did sort of miss the rigidity that holds the bag up and keeps it's form. Once you do it you can't go back... :-) If I recall, MaxPed might recommend short stints in the dryer, 10 mins at a time and def no washing. Good luck!
@tengc I've not seen a 5.11 Rush in person but do like the styling of it. On the other hand, I don't prefer all of the PALS webbing on the outside of the bag. The Larkspur is humungorous and kind of like a big bucket. Sorry I can't be of any help but I do like the look of that Rush.
Wonderful video Ros. I just got my very first Maxpedition products (Condor II and Spartan wallet), and they are great. Try and stop me from watching Pt. 2... lol.
@quandtman Thx for responding, Quandtman. Yah, its a pretty LARGE bag. If you needed to haul a lot of stuff for the day (like gym clothes/sneakers) it'd be great. Just simple books and laptop it will seem like overkill. I like mine and use it for work but then again I can tend to carry a lot of EDC stuff.
I think it is mounted near the rear on top so that you can have control of the weight of the bag while you rifle through the front with the other hand. Do most messenger bags have handles on the flap...?
@ROADDAWGTACTICAL Hiya Roaddawg. I don't have an iPad but used a picture frame of the same size. :) It does fit in the Jumbo. Right to the top but storm cover goes over and flap snaps no prob. Could fit in rear zipper too but no protection there. I'd say the Jumbo is Go for the iPad.
@RoscoeBa I like the Rush because of all the pockets. With it, I wouldn't have to buy organizers, unlike the Larkspur. But, I like the way Maxpedition overbuilds their products. I think the Larkspur is more water resistant than the Rush. Also, I like way the strap of the Larkspur goes all the way to the bottom of the bag. It'll be more robust that way, unlike the Rush whose straps go only until the sides of the bag. If the Rush had the same water proofness of the Maxpedition... best of 2 worlds.
I have spec Ops brand messenger bag with a zippered access flap feature. I thought it was so ingenious until I watched this video. My bubble has been popped
each big pocket in the front of the bag will hold two 1 liter water bottles - this is an unbelievable bag - strong and flexible - you can't fill this bag up and the zippers are the strongest i have ever seen - you think they will break - but they never do - i loaded the bag up so much - it was pulling me to the side - this bag never gave up
Oh gosh, I still feel bad for doing that. I washed it in *detergent*. I know because it smelled "fresh" for weeks. I don't recommend it. Eggroll says to put it in the dryer on low for 10 mins at a time. That'll soften it up. (btw, I washed my Active Shooter Bag this weekend, in cold. lol Nice and soft now.) (Air dried)
@RoscoeBa I need a bag that is water proof, but I need something a little smaller than this bag you are reviewing. Can you recommend a slightly smaller bag I could get that has similar features as the Maxpedition Larkspur Messenger Bag?
Hiya Robert. For this bag I do remember that I not only used detergent but fabric softener as well! I remember this because it made my office smell like Downy for a long time. lol That said, I wouldn't recommend AT ALL any detergent nor any other product. MaxPed says that washing might remove some of the water resistant capabilities. However, I know the "crispness" to which you refer. You can toss it in the wash in cold, no product, and air dry. If still too crisp try it again. Good luck to you!
haha No prob. I hope I can answer them! 1) I tuck the flaps in because the big flap really does good coverage, don't need the smaller flaps all the time. Do use them sometimes though. 2) I didn't sew the velcro in. I used sticky velcro. Used the sticky side to affix to the bag then the velcro stuck to each other. Make sense...? It didn't hold well. Don't recommend for a good solution. :) You can buy all sorts of velcro at any fabric/sewing/crafty store. Good luck!
Great job on the review of this bag. Have you checked out Vanquest Envoy Messenger bag? It's pretty great. I'll be doing a review this week on it. But, chk it out.
Ah, that's a good idea. It takes up my whole passenger seat. It'd be nice to have it up higher and still have room on the seat for other stuff. Thx Raptor.
here are the Maxpedition colors.... black is jet black khaki is very light olive green (not tan at all) foliage is a mix of light olive and a very light gray color. Its more gray than olive. O.D. green is exactly what you think- army green, just like the color of those little plastic army men we used to play with as kids. hope this helps
If I were going to be on campus all day and had to hold all of my stuff like laptop, notebooks, and gym clothes and stuff... then yes. It'd be way too big for a high school, I'd say. Anybody else have input on this?
Great TRAVEL bag. Perfect size and design for airport travel. Course now they no longer make it. This is NO tactical bag. If it were, there would be palls webbing. That is why I am ticked about the end pockets. It can only hold a pocket knife. Useless in airport travel. Tried to have it removed and replaced with a water bottle holder but have not found a shop in afg. or Alaska where I work and live that can do it

No, YOU rock!! Now I need to get that shoe shop I always see in town and get them to sew mine. Thx AV!
Thx Peter, yeah, velcro-shutting the bottom of that flap would give you the rolling bag utility as well as ability to store stuff in it.
Most definitely. That's a very clever access at the top there.
That mainbody access thru the top flap is great for possible conceled carry access.

You got it right, Wiccals. It'd be a nice size bag for you and great for those uses.
@grilloz89 That bag is khaki/foliage. You're right, it is hard to tell in pictures or videos!
Roz...Thanks the review on the new products...
Great job as always...off to part two!

It looks like it would make a great large range bag.

Hiya Fred. Thx!
Thank you, Mr. B.

Heya Darb! Thx, it was a long crappy 2nd half of the summer. lol Hopefully I can get out and enjoy the fall. More vids from you too, eh??

Hello CJ. Sure thing.
Again, thank you Ron.
Many thx, Charter.
@blueBlackpurple Maybe you can go over and look at Hazard4's messenger bags. They have the MOD that may suit you. Or, the MaxPed Mongo?

When you washed it did you use a detergent? Did you dry it in a dryer or let it air dry?

haha I'll have to go see if you did reviews on those items, ZRat.
Might be too floppy to hold heavy stuff like ammo and guns though.
@johnbeauchemin me too, i'm going to buy it as my laptop/schoolbag for college, which starts for me in 6 months for me

@thawkins426 Cool! Hope it's suiting ya.
He he he...!
LOL..!
Thanks for the hard work you put down Roz..!
Oh that's great, I hadn't thought of that. It's a pretty large bag but if you're traveling it'll hold a good load of stuff. Happy riding! -Roz
How did you wash the bag?
How would you compare this with the 5.11 Rush Messenger Bag?
someone could tell me the colour of the one in the video?? can't understand if is od green or what maxp. calls khaki/foliage thanks
Yes! Thanks, well said.
That's a big messenger bag, the large has to be a monster. Too much for me I like to travel light.

haha Luvz you too Frazer! :D
We're psychic! ;-)
that is tiny for a messenger bag, couldnt even fit 2 hours worth of work in it. i like your review though.
