I love how his voice is of desperation like one last attempt to make her stay or to at least start to hate her when she actually leaves (“so step right out” as in fine leave then!) while her voice is of calmness like she had been thinking and experiencing this for so long that she knows there’s no way back and this is what must happen. Dessner and the National fingerprints are all over these albums. I was a big National fan and when I saw he was collaborating on this I had to listen. Then I became a TS fan. I am blown away by her talent.
I bought "The first two Pages of Frankenstein" because of their collaboration.
I love his voice in this lower range. In fact his voice drew me to this song. This is an amazing duet.
