  • In this video I will show how to remove old oil on the aperture blades In Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 1:1.7 f=85mm.
Remember to set small marks BEFORE disassemble the aperture assembly.
I use Isopropylalcohol 99% to cleaning the aperture assembly and the blades.

Hello Kenneth, just yesterday my long after sought Minolta 85 f1,7 came in the mail, and however I have some experience with taking old lenses apart for cleaning, It aolso has grease on the aperture blades. A previous lens i took care of in this way, I lubed the helicoid with some miltary grade Molybdenum compound grease. It was not to sticky and that lens focussed smooth as butter afterwards. Highly satisfying, but is it a type of grease you would prefer to use, or do you just keep to using Lithum grease or vaseline? I'd like to hear yor view on this topic! Great video by the way, clear and informative, just what I was looking for, as a preliminary "read"before I take mine apart and run into unexpected trouble! Thanks very much! Just amazed your channel has this low count of views! It surely deserves more attention, with the patience and craftmanship you display! I bought myself some lens spanners and silicone rings for these cases on internet, and they are very inexpensive can highly commend these, and a lens vice to queezy out irregularity's due to damage I can only recoment too!

Thanks for your excellent videos, I learnt a lot from your clear instruction. I have a Yashica TLR lens that has delaminated and I need to glue the 2 elements back together. I wonder if you have tried this and what optically clear glue you would use or recommend?

Very helpful, many thanks. The name ring on mine is stuck. I have the same rubber tools as you, and I have tried a few drops of acetone to loosen it--but no luck. Anything you can suggest? I suppose drilling the ring would be a last resort, yes?

Hi Mike, I have been watching your amazing videos and I have a question about the Rokkor 85mm f1.7 Do you have experience building the MC and MD version? Some sources state that all versions used the same optical design, other sources state that the MD version had a different optical design in the afternoon production year before the 85/2 model was introduced. Do you know how it is? Thanks a lot.

My main issue is with the screws. I am doing the same and the screws are so tight that I finish by ruining them and then the lens is shut forever... I do have japanese screwdrivers and I am disapointed with them.

Jeg prøver at skrive en besked til dig her på youtube, er det muligt for dig at kontakte mig? Jeg har en optik jeg håber du måske kan kigge på! Kh

    Great video!
I have one where the blades are just slow to return to open but have no oil on them and close instantly.
Do you think maybe there is just some oil or gunk affecting the return mechanism?
