Vivian said it's a cheap shot to equate that to PAP planning to have a 10 million population. Vivian twisted Dr Chee's word as much Dr Chee may have twised. Which he didn't. He was clear that Heng Swee Keat mentioned it in a forum. In fact just till yesterday you could google the straights times article showing Heng Swee Keat in an economic forum quote the economist. Now you cannot find that article anymore. *edited* You can still find it but boy it sure is hard. A day before it be the on the first page of google. Now it's taken over by multiple articles defending Heng Swee Keat. Including straits times. So I would do my research before jumping on Vivian's lap. Vivian is right to say PAP never made a population paper targeting 10 million. However Heng Swee Keat in that interview was clearly toying with that idea when he mentioned the economist opinion. So 1) Fact check : PAP did not submit a paper on a 10 million population. 2) Fact check: Heng Swee Keat did not verbally say he will target a 10 million population. 3) Fact check: Heng Swee Keat did mention an economist opinion that singapore is able to handle a 10 million population in that interview. Here is the link for that : www.straitstimes.com/singapore/sporeans-must-remain-open-to-foreigners-says-heng You cannot dismiss Dr Chee by saying , he is wrong because they didn't actually publish a 10 million population paper. You cannot also dismiss Dr Chee by saying, 1 man's opinion does not represent the entire PAP. Just remember in the elections before, when PAP said they will not raise the GST after election. Only for a while later, come to parliament and say we have no choice but to raise it now. So how are you telling us to trust them, when Heng Swee Keat clearly did toy with that idea. If not why else would be quote the economist? Perhaps to justify that the 6.9million population white paper is not as bad as it seems? Because an economist said 10 million is possible? Singaporeans the majority were against a 6.9 million white paper. We didn't want a severely congested city. They still went ahead with it and said they cannot give in to popularism. So what if..1 day comes where they see 10 million as a good thing? If you feel it's fine to justify a 6.9 million paper with a 10 million economist opinion. It's not far fetched to imagine them one day justifying a 10 million population.
VB talked about spending reserves saved up by previous generations. And he just blew $280m on top of the budgeted amount just for YOG. So the question about efficacy. How has YOG actually helped us? Did they assume that just because we held that, tons of tourists are coming here because they watched YOG? How many people actually remember where the 1st YOG was held?
And don't forget how much the government spent subsidising fees for foreign students....while many of our own elderly are on their own struggling to make ends meet....
James was quite respectful towards all parties during the debate and he’s a fresh face in politics also i think vivian didn’t like that 10 million comment by dr chee 😂
I mean, look at how Dr Chee frames his questions, I honestly believe that his opinions are too skewed and pent up anger has clouded his judgement. Jamus on the other hand is respectful, acknowledges the strengths and weaknesses of different policies. Ofcourse Dr Balakrishnan would have a more amicable stance towards a more civilized and understanding opposition, compared to an opposition that is objecting for the sake of objection.
Some party should be in the Parliament meeting but they couldn't be there as always, unless the boss show up, then the rest will else only 10% or so usually. Therefore, more opposition in, maybe more attendance in the future? :P

@@JL.. It has been brought up and it is true that SME's biggest pitfalls are cashflow. Loans will have to be paid back with interests eventually. All loans really do for SMEs is to put them on life support where they die a slow death. What really needs to be done for SME is to reduce the cost of business, namely reducing rent, licencing fees, and to increase the vibrancy of our domestic economy. In a sense, the only thing I disagree with the WP about is the institution of minimum wage, but yes, I feel the WP do have a greater focus on focusing on SME's growth rather than the status quo of the PAP where SME's are tolerated rather than promoted.
Don't blame the moderator. Blame the rules set for the debate. All things considered, he is quite fair. He cut V.Bala according the the debate rules as much as he did for the Opposition MPs. Dr Lim is eloquent and speaks well so is Dr Chee. In fact all the three Drs here speaks well. The difference though is their stand. WP still believes in the PAP with the same people's spirit but are there to make PAP govern better while SDP still doesn't believe or trust PAP. The results in this election speaks for itself. WP, however, is still not ready to take over the government of Singapore. They have said so themselves. Perhaps one day will come if the trend of young people entering politics is changing. In times of crisis and challenges this trend may continue especially with issues like climate change causing the world to experience more virus pandemic and environmental disasters and changing job landscape through technological disruptions. The world will be tougher for the next generation and it is only right that young people become more interested in politics. I remember a young LKY from the opposition party at one time in the 50s who speaks better than any of these three put together. Dynamic, full of zest and able to debate on any policies on global and local issues. Singapore was then in crisis quite different from the issues of today. Fighting the communists, negotiating self-independence and dealing with racial tensions were the day. When PAP in the 50-60s, a new era was born. Are we seeing the likes of an opposition who can do better. If more young people enter politics perhaps we will.

The Reserves belongs to the people during hard times. The reserves came from the vacant lands that you have occupied for industrial buildings , dormitories , factories ..etc . You can't just take whatever you want without giving back to the people. Our people deserved the leaders they have elected ...remember this , without the people there will be no PAP.
But also remember this, without PAP, Singapore would not be how it is today. Cry so much, go become like Hong Kong. Their own people destroy the whole economy

VB calling WP a PAP-Lite party is a smart strategy, because it implies that there is no real need to vote WP, or that dissatisfaction with the PAP shouldn't manifest in a vote for the WP. JL did well in saying that the half-step left is important, because that step involves (insert WP manifesto snippet). This makes VB's point backfire, because now voters (at least those who can even understand this) are being assured that voting in WP is basically as 'safe' as voting PAP, except now we can get (insert WP manifesto snippet).

It’s very strange that an eye doctor speaks like he fully understands Industry 4.0 and it’s vast implications to productivity and jobs of the future. One of the biggest challenge that we will face is certainly mismatch in skills and we have been relying on MNCs too much by offering very generous grants and tax incentive to locate their operations here. The question is how many of those MNCs have truly enabled the local workforce to embrace Industry 4.0 or its simply a case of exploitation of incentives and never about people development. We do not have a TSMC , a HuaWei , a Samsung or LG.

Here is the link for that : www.straitstimes.com/singapore/sporeans-must-remain-open-to-foreigners-says-heng
You cannot dismiss Dr Chee by saying , he is wrong because they didn't actually publish a 10 million population paper.
Best Speaker : Jamus Lim
2nd best: Dr VB
3rd: Dr Chee
Last: PSP
Better romance than Twilight
Jamus is great. Work harder
Ken Ho literally no one
And don't forget how much the government spent subsidising fees for foreign students....while many of our own elderly are on their own struggling to make ends meet....
YOG had helped his master's vanity.
We don't even know our reserve....don't end of day say we already use up in the convid19.
From hindsight, it was a grand masterstroke by Pritam Singh to second JJ Lim as WP rep. What a way to showcase this Gem!!!
can someone explain to why Vivian Balakrishan kind of fierce towards Dr Chee? but his tone is different towards Jamus?
I noticed that too
It's almost like a sign of respect despite the rivalry between the two parties. Two geniuses and gentlemen in a game of chess
Trump 101. When expecting tough questions, build a wall, stare down hard and put down your opponent first at all course.
Some party should be in the Parliament meeting but they couldn't be there as always, unless the boss show up, then the rest will else only 10% or so usually. Therefore, more opposition in, maybe more attendance in the future? :P
Thank you Dr Vivian for inevitably admitting that WP is able to match his party in terms of policy making. Although he tried to make a mockery out of it, but it's very obvious he was really impressed by Dr Lim.
Jamus Lim , you earn my respects
(2:31) even moderator is impressed. "Very good" and smiling after that.
What I know our SME company almost gg to die, bank loans only take care big boy, small boy they nv care
@Sushi Saim Or maybe because they generate higher GDP for the country or maybe they employ more people? But I guess you're quite delusional on your thinking
you do realize there's tons of SME loans in place?
the borrowing limit has been greatly increased since covid and risk is shared w the gvmt
Financial economies of scale boissss
Small boy wait for children day
Hmm, I wonder why is the Like-Dislike ratio hidden.
The coordinator is so annoying, like bro they already started their sentence why are you cutting them unnecessarily
Don't blame the moderator. Blame the rules set for the debate.
All things considered, he is quite fair. He cut V.Bala according the the debate rules as much as he did for the Opposition MPs.
Question CNA on the fairness of V.Bala getting 4.5 mins for Opposition's 1.5 mins each.
It would make sense for 1.5mins vs 1.5mins per question rather than each 1.5mins while PAP gets 4.5mins per question.
He was quite professional . He wanted to provide clear time frame by stating it ma
It's to warn them that he starting timer mah
Finally , someone really decent from a non PAP member.
Can see how vivian and jamus have like respect each other👍
Lim Tean was probably the only one that could match Janus Lim in a debate. Would love to see them have a go at each other
I’ve never heard of someone calling workers party “PAP Lite or PAP like”.
Propaganda.
I certainly have but not that much
Vivian looks like hes on some rap battle show
Wa jamus eat quite a lot of kentang sia lol.
Good debater la this man
Our PM too sounded very British when he first entered politics then changed to fit to our local taste. Give him time. He's good
After all the renovation of many hawker Centres & change of mgmt. So many hawkers Iivelihood got into problem, rental increase, fees increase.. because of covid-19, now the hawkers center become unless - if hawker did not take a chance to operate. How to live a life without income.?
Civil discussion, I like
Noone asked
Without Covid-19. Will there be tax rebates or rental rebates - even the lower income, unemploy & Poor had cried out for help for the last 9 years.?
cfm no lor
Maybe they will give one gst payment few hundreds before election.
But after they give themselves 10 months bonus again.
Now say sp bill decrease.
After ge sure go back to increase and increase
The total rebate is 90b, which means 26k per citizen. How much did one citizen get? It will be paid back by everyone.
wait long long
@@fengzhang3215 That is based on my ling ling calculation. Wonder how she arrived at this figure.

If more young people enter politics perhaps we will.
vivian but did you do it?
Many of my friends pointed at that very focused talk between Jamus and Dr B. If you ask me, both will make great Parliamentarian for the good of Singapore. Jamus is very focus and very light hearted. He simplify his reasons for people to understand and I could see that Dr B is impressed by Jamus's reaction and knowledge
I sincerely pray & hope this team fr Seng Kang GRC made it into Parliament! All the best on 10July ;)
I flew off my chair when he said "We'd like that"
The Reserves belongs to the people during hard times.
@@zebra9389 We can confirm that PAP build Singapore. But we can't confirm that if PAP lost in 1959, Singapore will not be how is it today, We can even be more prosperous. Nobody knows.
But bear that in mind, the PAP Government that build Singapore to today's calibre is the Lee Kuan Yew's PAP. If Lee Kuan Yew come back, I will happily vote for the Party that bring Singapore to where it is today.
Ze en the fundamental and development credit should ultimately go to the first / second batch of pap guards. This do not warrant future leaders a safety net and guarantee of support.
Jamus’s a breath of fresh air, Quality.
Questions and debate should stimulate people, not seek accusations. He is good
Ze en debate tommy C if u have any calibre. And by the way he is not crying.
Ze en we also have to realise legacy worshipping will never do us any good. Policies should adapt and try its best to leverage impact across citizens of any background.
We always say we have Reserves, but how much? It is never disclosed..
Bromance brewing
Title of the video should be changed. It made it seems like it's a Dr. Balakrishnan highlight, when in fact, it was Jamus Lim who stole the show.
Sengkang voter here. Jamus, you won my vote
You are doing a great favour to your country. Please try your best to persuade your friends and family as well. We need this brilliant man in parliament!
That seems like a self defeating statement..If what wp wrote isn't much of a difference than why try to block wp if the best policies for the people is what matters at the end of the day..we don't need a 2/3 majority pap when wp can fill the numbers and check the ruling party at the same time..why do we need a pap that is condescending, aloof, self-righteous party...all that false humility act is disgusting....
Since PAP agrees the WP manifesto is equal, why not outsource the G to WP?. After all, WP is cheaper, betterer and fasterer ✌✌
Subtitles for Deaf and hard-of hearing please! :)
we could have written the same manifesto....
well you didn't did you ?
lilith violet harmony u are missing the point or misinterpreted. What Vivian meant is that the WP manifesto is BASED ON PAP's stand point (which Jamus agreed - see second part of speech). Hence PAP could have written something similar.
lilith violet harmony and they wouldn't becoz while their positions are aligned. Adjustments can be made based on what each priority is --- and there will be trade offs. Eg. If people want to be relaxed and have easier lifestyle, we may take on Malaysia type lifestyle and it's lesser infrastructure. On the other hand, note that Sg's present infrastructure is comparatively solid. Look at our bus stops and the HDBs.
@@Iendleasereit you misinterpreted his comment . When he said they didnt , he meant that vivian himself didnt wrote the manifisto that you said wp`s manifisto was similar to the pap. He is the subject here .
Good job Jamus ! ...but don't be deceived by Vivian fawning over you. Here is the exchange between Vivian and Lily Neo ( PaP MP )
"How much do you want? Do you want 3 meals in a hawker centre, food court or restaurant?" - Minister for MCYS Dr Vivian Balakrishnan in replying to a request by MP Dr Lily Neo's "Is it too much to ask for just 3 meals a day as an entitlement for the PA recipients?"
But Vivian has no issue spending $388M on the YOG well exceeding his "budget projection" of $110M +
We can see they are many great people without much info yet can talk more sense in simple English
You could have written.. but did you? That's the question.
"We'd like that", says WP's Jamus Lim to PAP's Vivian Balakrishnan
To be honest with you, you could have written the same manifesto but you did not.
Is every school still a good school?
Next debate can be longer. We are not in a rush. What the person who set the rules is thinking?
The way he actually uses sarcasm in his arguments (Vivian) really made me feel disgusted. First time watching who was Jamus and he surprised me with his sound arguments despite not really 'looking' the cut.
haha if you think this is sarcastic. you should watch the parliament debates.
This vivian has been useless for the past few years la.. he's just another minister full of empty vessels. Don't fall for this kind of PAP Snakes.. he can't do much actually..
Get a person who stares at u the same way vivian stares at jamus
VB calling WP a PAP-Lite party is a smart strategy, because it implies that there is no real need to vote WP, or that dissatisfaction with the PAP shouldn't manifest in a vote for the WP.
JL did well in saying that the half-step left is important, because that step involves (insert WP manifesto snippet). This makes VB's point backfire, because now voters (at least those who can even understand this) are being assured that voting in WP is basically as 'safe' as voting PAP, except now we can get (insert WP manifesto snippet).
"could have written the manifesto" but you didn't that's the difference
If we are funding from reserves, then good to know how much CEO of Temasek being paid. There are bureaucratic fat in the system too, for example, civil sevants who have retired drawing pensions yet called back to be 'consultants' and 'adjuncts'. Dr Chee should be more meticulous and less conniving.. funding can come from delayed purchase of F-35 (when our fighter jets still outclas our neigbours) or cutting excessive expenditure (should take a look into the RC & CC budget). It is the manner in which curent party is spending mney with little transparency yet quick n raisig taxe and tarriffs and fresh flat prices that irk the citizens.
JAMUS WON and his team in Sengkang !!!
PAP is for the rich and not for the everyday poor and average singaporean...and many singaporeans are living in poverty, hardship and stress for far too long under PAP....LOOK AT THE PAP MINISTERS PAY!!! OVER 100K??? I feel Dr. Chee Soon Juan is a good man who will sacrifice his wealth to save the poor and average singaporeans....vote for him and he will bring better changes.
Jamus is good too....but will he save the poor and the rejected?
Touch Jamus Lim. Well do ! One swipe dealth with VB's condescending yet devious way of 'common ground' with direction to capital or citizens. Good that you gave numbers. Let's see more this type of cut and thrust when you get to Parliment !
jamus, you are our hope! and we must understand that PAP is private limited
After 61years of suffering.... from generation to generation...No money No PAP...support opposition parties..
so how come you lost to the lite version ? something wrong right ?
Pap very condescending. They think they are Spore.
0:20, looks happy and proud Vivian actually praised his party and at the same time saying, bitch we ain't the same.
He VB looks more friendly to Jamus Lim than CSJ...why?
BV - if is OK for PAP to adopt what others had put up. Is it not that all public sectors tender solutions is always written by someone else. That's why there is RFQ and Fin Budget and Tech Budget documents from others.
though u hv a dislike fr PAP, pls show respect...and dun cut him.
I applaud how calm DR Vivian answering them compared to the rest of the PAP parliament who look at it as a form of an attack to PAP.
So what if the manifesto is the same? The way to carry out the manifesto could be different, and the end goal could be different, so on and so forth.
That last look my Jamus gave is priceless
It’s very strange that an eye doctor speaks like he fully understands Industry 4.0 and it’s vast implications to productivity and jobs of the future. One of the biggest challenge that we will face is certainly mismatch in skills and we have been relying on MNCs too much by offering very generous grants and tax incentive to locate their operations here. The question is how many of those MNCs have truly enabled the local workforce to embrace Industry 4.0 or its simply a case of exploitation of incentives and never about people development. We do not have a TSMC , a HuaWei , a Samsung or LG.
Support opposition, it’s time to make a change guys.
Agree or not
One need to watch out is Dr. Chee sharpness in his presentation, and Dr
Jamus is his responses in tackling Vivian Balakkrishnan attempting to
manipulate his speeches, and finally Mr Francis maintaining his position in tackling straight to the point. To sum up; SDP/WP/PSP is really a threat to PAP team.
It is always easier that somebody else do it for you.
In recent years, there are more impressive candidates representing oppositions. But it is a pity majority of Singaporeans are unwilling to give them the opportunities of speaking in parliment, representing the citizens.
