Not everyone. I for example don't do any min maxing and play for fun and there are players like me out there, maybe not just as many, but we're out there. Play and enjoy the game for yourself :)
12:00 vanilla wow still had RPG roots. vanilla wow had the stakes be "you travel the world and help farmers kill bugs" or "this old college has been infested by necromancers, they need to be wiped out" or "the dark iron dwarf emperor has gone mad, you must save the princess". vanilla wow had YOU be the deciding factor in all of these small stories. all of these smaller dungeons had you socialise and team up with other adventurers so when you find out that, the advisor to the king was actually a dragon in disguise... you had other adventurers to team up with. Ragnaros and Molten core was literally - "a bunch of cultists have brought the means to summon the embodiment of fire from it's dimension into ours - we should stop that". it was just ONE of the things happening in THE WORLD OF WARCRAFT. it wasn't "THE LICH KING IS THE BIGGEST THREAT EVER - GO TO NORTHREND AND STOP HIM (for 2 years)" right after molten core there was updates of Onyxias broodmate, Nefarion(whom you had seen orchestrate Rend to kill you in UBRS) has been amassing an ungodly genetically/magically modified brood of chromatic dragons to wreak havoc on the world. so you take your friends(or the biggest gathering of heroes) and you take the fight to him in a raid. at the same time, the ogres inside Dire maul have awakened some demons, the trolls of stranglethorn has awakened their Loa gods (Hakkar, a god you fought an avatar of inside of sunken temple). it's deeply frustrating when they cut up all of these things, tell us the players "this is season 9 of X or Y" ....
Vanilla is just simply the best. I've logging in to level through Dragonflight to experience the zones, b/c retail always has nice art. But at the end of most sessions, I log into vanilla to experience its simplicity, even if just for 5 minutes. I still like retail from time to time, but vanilla is lightning in the bottle.
This hits me a certain way. I have never really played the game as a raider or a min maxer until recently with dragonflight and then sod even more so. Sod is where I learned about parsing and my rotation. Has been "wrong" for years. Yes I suck at the game but I never really cared to be good until i started raiding and getting laughed at for my damage. I think I'm going to go back this mindset for cata since that's where I started. Sorry if I end up healing for you in advance.
I think what Vanilla andys like about Vanilla is the that there is a lot of semi-liminal space in Vanilla compared to even the expansions in the trilogy and Cata. There's different bases from different factions but most of the map is made up of enemies and locations. There's not like a massive war going on between two factions generally (A/H or otherwise) in zones so it kind of lends itself to the feeling of going out to solve some local issues, gather profession resources and returning to base to sell. I'm sure there are other things as well but I feel like on a map level that's what people are talking about when discussing the feeling of the world. The stakes are what you make of them.
When I first started playing in 2006 I remember thinking every race in WoW had it's own 'world' then from exploring realized they were all connected blew my mind cause the world felt so big
You're probably right. I play SoD and I really like it, but I play alone and I don't min-max. While everyone was spamming SM in p2, I leveled on my own as I just enjoy being in the world, same in p3. While everyone spammed incursions and yes it was fast, it was so boring that I left that after 2 quests and went back to open world leveling. It's up to you how you play the game and how you enjoy it. Not following everyone else and the meta is been very chill and enjoyable.
warcraft 3 made me love the world and the lore. i explored the map a before level cap back in the day.i was such a noob in vanilla. raiding wasnt even on my mind since i started in late 2006. i didnt raid till tbc.
@@nataliep6385 bro i started in oct 06 i wasnt gona power level and raid . i enjoyed the exploration and leveling alot and the community . i was a noob but had fun
3:45 - Badlands maybe? The Flamesac area for the quest weapon enchant? That was my first thought. Maybe the Drakes outside of Sunken Temple - However they are flightless and not winged but still a badass dragon. Classic WoW really is the best version of the game honestly. I am still huffing my copium and holding out hope that we WILL get a TRUE Classic+ version of the game. Classic just needs a bit more content, and a little tighter overall balance.
8:30 - Grommash being power hungry and xenophobic is in itself a worthwhile threat, to keep your faction from becoming the greatest enemy of all kinds. you really don't need to add old gods and titans to that....
I've met so many people in classic and in retail that don't know how to RP walk lol... I always found it a must on most escort quests, especially in classic content
ppl are so unrealistic tho, we had our moms work laptops playing at 10 fps, social media was in its early early infancy most ppl were far younger, I understand the sentiment, but i do feel like ppl are really really really snorting the memberberries with pieces like this sometimes. It was always gonna turn into this, hell even table top d&d became a min/max shitshow with time, same with warhammer. Given enough time, this is always the result.
I recently played wow on my laptop that can't run it on retail, and the dungeon on the island I thought was disappointing because you're already fighting a full grown dragon
I don't get when people make this point. MMOs were the original moment-by-moment dopamine machines. Imagine playing MMOs without a bar to fill up.. no one would do it.
1:30 this is the point you realize it's not the game that has changed it's your goals with in the game being more focused on progression. the exploration is there still you just became a cog in the machine and got a DAYJOB to fill a Desire for better equipment like you went materialistic in a virtual world. mean while a 16 year old kid gets a trial account with his first CC and joins friends for the first time and start playing the game as if it was something new. we're a lot older. i played MANY MANY games before i even got to WoW my dopamine drop off was so rock bottom because at a young age mastering things was easy keeping attention with so few choices of game at the poin was making it simple to stay focused on one thing. as we age we get more task focused and less creative unless our task is our creativity. there are pleanty of places to find in wow but they are most likley all places you have been already so all you have left is get money get mats buy/craft gear destroy harder tougher enemies.
just jumped back on but the game is done 1 sided servers, gearscore, auction houses are a mess etc, its so bad pray there is a good private server gonna be released soon
Vanilla was never just a game all the raiders bought illegal wow gold to raid that's what did in sod and classic wow thought me and it's a reason I'll NEVER raid in wow. I'll raid in any other game just not wow😂
modern mmorpgs are like this. Open world. Simple structure designs like houses which is fine. Linear dungeons with one path. Linear everything with one path. Quest design that's predictable like retail wow where you pick up one quest and you keep progressing from that same quest because said quest keeps guiding you towards a direction for more quests. In classic you had 1 or 2 camps with 20+ quests and you'd find maybe 5 other locations on the map with a couple quests. Not this linear 3 quest design that keep guiding you to more 3 quests. Everything is linear now. Gimme level design like BRM or Elden Ring with no hand holding no linear nonsense no quest helper none of that hellish nonsense.
You should watch some of your earlier videos.. you constantly complain when classes aren't doing "good enough" like when you were talking about Spriest yet they were broken in pvp it's people like you constantly complain that causes the ripple effects that take the fun out of the game because you're so worried about a damage meter. Maybe I'm wrong because I don't have a damage meter so I don't care but it just seems so stupid
At that time i think the developers made game they wanted to play themselvs nowdays i think they're trying to please corpo/investors
That is a VERY large part of it.
its not made by gamers anymore. Its made by people who game on their phones and have families
I miss when it was a game too, now its a full time fucking job and everyone is min maxing/class tier listing their asses off. Its not fun anymore

Had to actually go and play on an abandoned and empty Classic Era server with friends to get this feeling back... We Want Fresh!
