I've daily driven my garage parked AP2 S2000 for 13 years, redlining multiple times pretty much every time i get in it. Bought it at around 20k miles. It's been an absolute dream, do regular maintenance and it will never die. Just ticked over 100k miles (my commute is very short), it's every bit as fun as the day I got it.

I liked your take on this car.. I'm having trouble deciding either to keep my 05 STi or trade it for an 04 S2k.. Literally split down 50/50. As a Subaru and Honda guy, this is quite hard as i've looked at all the s2ki forums about this topic. Coming from an s2k owner, what would you say without being biased?

to be honest im not an owner myself but it really depends on preference. Sure you're probably gonna get more power with the STi but the 8-9000rpm vtec on the honda is pretty sick. The honda feels like a regular old civilian car up until about 6000 rpm but then kicks in and goes pretty quick. So again, its really up to preference. Personally I enjoy the thrill of the S2000 because ive been in one but its really up to you.

I don't have much experience with Subarus outside of driving a buddy's stinkeye WRX hatch and owning a manual Legacy 2.5i for a few months but I think the biggest factor you'll have to decide between is reliability versus practicality.
A S2000 will be more reliable than your STI for sure but it's going to be far less practical too. STIs are fairly reliable if they've been taken care of well but a S2000 has that Honda reliability. But F20/22 motors are getting pretty expensive these days so don't break one or that's $3-5k for a long block. BUT STIs have way more cargo space and seats so that's something you'll miss when you go from a 4 door to a 2 door. You can't be the guy who takes all your friends places anymore.
About the driving experience, my buddy's WRX felt lazy in comparison to my S2000, like a fast couch lol. S2000s require more attention when you drive because they have no slack in the steering or throttle. S2000s will rotate on command and snap oversteer so it won't be as confidence inspiring as an AWD car at first and you will have to get used to countersteering at times if you plan on driving more aggressively.
I think a S2000 will definitely be more fun than a WRX at least but you will miss that low end power sometimes especially in traffic. You have to readjust your driving style to not be afraid of going past 7k because S2000s keep making power ALL THE WAY till redline and these motors love doing it!

Recently purchase a 2004 s2k and i love it.. handles amazing even in stock form and i like the fact everytime i drive it i do not see another one driving around, so feels special to have one.. turns heads... prices are only going to continue to go up, so make sure to get one now before they become unattainable for decent price.

Dont get rid of your Subie bro. I love my Miata but to this day I still regret parting ways with my 21' STI so much. If I were in your shoes Id save up money to possibly by the S2K as a weekend car while keeping the Subie as reliable and clean as possible
