I had an AP1 and now I have an AP2, and it's easier to live with around town but still a ton of fun. If I could have 1 for track days (which I no longer do) and 1 for a daily driver, it'd definitely be an AP1 for the track and an AP2 for the daily.
Just get an AP2 and change the markings on the Tach so that 8,000 now reads 9,000 RPM. That will get you the oh-so-cool 9,000 RPM reading with the same HP and more low end torque.
AP1: Indy Yellow Pearl AP2: New Indy Yellow Pearl Which S2000 should you buy? I think Japonic did it right by not careing about colour or AP1/AP2. What is really important is the condition of the car and how well it was looked after. It is not a bad idea to inform yourself about the model years and technical changes. I also think it might be worth thinking about a Spoon reinforcement gusset plate. Have fun with these top engineered pieces of art and enjoy them on the road!

The reason higher mileage s2k go for more than an ap1 is because most higher mileage ap1 are now clapped out. Also, they made and sold more ap1 than ap2 from 00-03 - supply and demand. The ap1 is not inferior to the ap2. The ap2 is slightly the better car, yes... but only because it's softer and more friendly to drive for an amateur than the ap1. They fixed the suspension geometry in the back to prevent snap oversteer amateur drivers don't know how to handle. That is the only major revision. Put wider tires on the ap1 like the ap2 and you're good to go. As for interior, the ap2 takes it bad none. As the years go by, you will see low mileage or un-abused ap1 take over in terms of prices. @@sdlausen1 even though the higher redline is nice the extra tq you get from the 2.2 liter still makes it better doesn’t consume oil out the ass the f20s are practically like vqs when it comes to oil consumption my buddy literally picked up an ap1 I got to drive it back fro him about 6 hours the only part that makes actual sense to give the ap1 over the ap2 is the better steering response I ain’t even going to say better throttle response since the 04-05 ap2 came with the same throttle cable he also picked up the ap1 with less miles and less money then an ap2 he was looking it there a reason ap2s are always going to be higher priced lol

Just got a 2002 S2000 in yellow tonight! Has ap2 front and rear bumpers, carbon hood, hard top, enkei rpf1 wheels, Truhart coils, and a few other goodies I'm stoked

I like the AP1 because of the 9k rev limit but the AP2 is a better car with better looks, handling, engine, and even the 8k rev limit is still engaging and addicting

Nice comparison. S2K is the best for driving everywhere. It’s always fun even at normal speeds. I never thought I’d like the yellows as much as I do now.
I opted for an AP2 although I had put a deposit on an AP1. I like them both but the 2004 had fewer kilometers on it than the 2003 and it was less expensive.
I own a 2002 AP1 and I love it more compare to the AP2. AP1 has that raw feeling compare to AP2. My AP1 is fully stripped out and so is my buddy's 07 AP2 (we both track) but for some reason I enjoy my AP1 more becuase of how raw it is compare to AP2. Plus that 9k rpm cant beat that unless youre in the UK where some AP2 comes 9k rpm they did it right. SO in conclusion it's all preference... its still a S2000 that everyone (or most) wants and admire. Love the yellow!
I love your lifestyle, the Jdm Bros and Japan. In some time I want to travel to Japan and check out how the life is in the land of the rising sun. If it feels right I want to move to Japan and learn japanese.
Got an 04 in April for 14 with under 150k miles. Interior looks almost identical to the AP2 in the vid. Bone stock never modified. It’s possible, just have to be willing to wait for the right one and jump on it. Prices only going up tho no doubt about that.
with my ap2 I feel that there's slight cowl shake at 65mph with the top down which really annoyed me, when driving with an oem hardtop the chassis feels more solid and totally eliminates any shakes at all, this is just my experience but other s2000 owners feel free to chime in
It’s called Scuttle shake, very common for convertibles. I didn’t know the AP had that issue considering they’re more stiff than a normal convertible vehicle

Imo, the AP1 is the funner car but the AP2 is a lot more refined. Can’t beat shifting at 9k tho, just watch out for those valve retainers and the glass diff
In the UK all cars (AP1/2 - here, known as pre facelift/facelift) have the F20C 2.0 engine. I have two. An “AP2” to mod the hell out of, and an AP1 that is kept pristine and standard. Why? Because the AP1 is the original. And with prices of these rising and rising, if held on to, it’s the AP1’s in my opinion that will be worth the most money in the future. They’re the icon. They are the original after all.
Got an ap1 full road legal track car think at some point I'll take out the full cage and bucket seats put interior back to original and raise suspension up a bit make it more useable
Japonik is a Recaro Pole Position type of guy 😁 ....it's true, the s2000 is such an enjoyable car to drive (especially modded), that I have no doubt it's more pleasurable and engaging to drive, than a gtr or supra.

S2k prices here in the u.s are really scuffed. It’s insane how a Honda from 2005 can reach $25,000 USD.
There are less and less clean honda s2000s every year. They aren't making more of these cars and the demand for them is still there
