Fun fact: Brittany was recruited to a choir/choral group in college/uni at least partially for the DEPTH of her range. That's right, she sang alto. And now she does this. Brittany really Slayes.

Choir is a funny thing, because alto is not really a vocal type. Contralto is, so even though she saying I’ll tell it doesn’t mean that she was a contralto. Is there somebody that can sing low enough notes and to not be a soprano. You could easily be a low mezzo soprano and have done alto in your choir.

She wasn’t really recruited she wanted to get back into music in uni after already choosing history as her major so decided to try out for the uvic choir and got accepted pretty quick because they needed more alto singers

Well that was an eye/ear opener. Yet again you have introduced me to Another soon to be favorite band.
That was an epically driven piece of musical mastery. I was truly moved by the combination what was almost a vocal whistle and "demon growl". It's probably just me but I had tears running down my cheeks during parts of that song.(pure joy) Night wish came to mind, Floor has had the same affect among a couple others.

There are videos of Brittney singing this on stage. Of course the overall effect is different from a music video recorded in a studio but, damn, she hit's those notes consistently again and again, all while moving around on stage and engaging the audience. And, of course, that's just one song out of an entire set. So impressive!

Brittney alternates between singing and belting like this for like 2 hour concerts. Her stamina is ungodly. It's why I like to say that "Brittney Slayes" is both a person and a completely accurate sentence.
You should have seen the cover of Cemetery Gates she hit live on Twitch last month or so. She hit a C6 in there, and absolutely killed that song. Sadly it would probably be muted in the Twitch VOD, if there even is one.

If you listen carefully during those high A5 notes, there are slight phrases of Bb5 mixed in with them

Julia, I want to thank you for looking into Death Metal growls and not just dumping them as "just growls". I really appreciate a vocal specialist realizing that there is quite a range of Death Metal Growls out there. From the high growls (not the highest) (Death, Carcass, Obituary, etc. etc.) To power growls (Barney Greenway in Napalm Death and Benediction) to low growls (Chris Barnes in Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under). Thanks again. Much appreciated. Keep it up. :)

I like that she brought something up. There need to be standardized terms for all the variations and hows and whys of growling, and another set for screaming. Like, an official Metal Dictionary and Thesaurus.

“Cleanse the Bloodlines”. Looked over far too often…much heavier, slower paced song. With the display of even more instrumental prowess and vocalist stamina…such an overlooked song, so much better than it gets credit for…

Love your (and Caption Julia's) analysis! Would love to hear reactions from you to *Charlotte Wessels'* work, both with *Delain* , and as a recent solo artist. She's a brilliant vocalist and performer. For Delain, I'd suggest *"Burning Bridges"* and *"Here Come the Vultures"* ; for solo, I'd suggest *"Superhuman"* and *"Soft Revolution"* .

The crazy part is the "male vocalist" lower harmony (not the growls) is also Brittney in this track. Her range is completely bananas.

Awesome video! I love the way you're seasoning the videos with your mixture of facts, explanations and jokes. :) I have to recommend "Cleanse The Bloodlines" as the next reaction of this band! It has an epic and emotional feeling to it, and powerful, majestic vocals that shows off another side of Britney's voice.

Idk if you ever read comments... but I just found an older song by Tim Foust of home free where he covered Elvis "I can't help falling in love with you"... it's just not fair nobody should have that vocal range and that amount of ability and control and smoothness...is just sooo freaking pure and beautiful
