I have the Kia EV6 dual motor GTLine-S, is extremely comfortable and full of tech, this car uses power in sports mode quickly, too quickly. Given the GT variation at 578bhp is using 320kwh, with the exact same battery, yeah that's bad, really bad for range! Sure it's fast, but for a road car you just do not need it, particularly with speed limits, it's rediculously overkill. The dual motor 325bhp is already enough for anyone, even a single motor is sufficiently quick with 225 bhp. .
Sounds like you made the right choice for yourself. Of course, many drivers would like to have more power, even if we aren’t using it all the time. It’s not overkill if you were using it on the track or Autobahn. If I drive my GT gently I will get plenty of range back, but that’s really not the point of this model. Different strokes for different folks!
It's true, our EV6 also only charges with max 50kw on the buggy Tesla chargers. We only use those in absolute emergencies. Up to 240kw everywhere else 😊
Super cool charging session, I was charging my Ioniq 6 and noticed that slow down at around 60% and then it boosted back up again til I hit 80% and called it a day.
I'm so happy to see this. I was a little concerned after your initial review when you talked extensively about how tricky it is to get the maximum performance out of this platform. This is on my very short list of cars to choose from when I'm due for a new car next year.
you have to do basically nothing to have the car go like stink. If you're drag racing, I'd do all of those geeky things, but really, you can blow away anything except supercars or Plaids without any special prep all day long
I have a GV60performance which was the hottest E-GMP car available in Oct22. Still loving it. From everything I’m hearing this EV6GT, and the upcoming N’s will be even better performance wise (although fewer lux features than the Genesis). Any of the cars made on this platform are an excellent EV for someone looking to buy one. IMHO the Hyundai group has stolen a march on every US maker with this 800v E-GMP architecture. Especially when you consider all the additional capabilities like V2L that are included. It’s also great that each car has their own styling and look, instead of them being a nearly identical like a set of matruska dolls . If your budget doesn’t allow looking at the German EV’s then it’s basically picking between a Tesla and a Hyundai/Kia/Genesis while we wait for the Chinese made cars to hit our market.
I think you hit the nail on the head, there is a huge amount of air flow rate across the heat exchangers when you're at high rates of speed. That is what allows the thermal system to keep up vs. when you're stationary and charging the little radiator fan can't compete.
Nerd alert: I have read the shop manual. In the front of the car there is a refrigerant condenser, and a hydronic radiator. The radiator is part of the loop that cools the battery & electronics, and it supplements the refrigerant-fluid heat exchanger in that loop with passive cooling from airflow when the vents are opened in the front. Kyle was right in his assumption.
not that I have any opportunity to go SCHNELL at 160mph in my country, but I wonder if Alyssa would be less scared at max speed, and the car less nervous, if Kyle used full GT mode with stiffened suspension. I suspect the car is tuned for this speed in Europe, and this kind of driving is exactly what the max stiffness suspension is set up to handle. Also, Kyle makes no mention of tyre pressures, which are also super-duper important if you are going 160mph for stability and safety reasons.
In my experience, GT mode with suspension on sport+ is best for curvy roads. On very high speeds on more straight roads, the middle sport setting seems to be better, as sport+ is a bit too „jumpy“ on every little bump
@@StefanSulistyo I tend to agree with you, but I've never run my car at the speeds Kyle was doing in this video. I suspect at higher speeds and on Teutonic roadways, GT mode and the stiffer suspension are more confidence-inspiring.
Kyle, you asked in this video if any GMP cars charged succsessfully on magic dock during this video....i sent you a facebook message showing someone getting close to 100kwh from a supercharger recently....it was posted in an ioniq5 facebook group....
I tested the EV6 GT and would have bought it instead of my Tesla Y Performance. The killler for the GT was the Summer tires in Ohio Winter, the no power seat and the green calipers, stitching. They were both around $54 K but the Tesla has the $7.5 k tax credit.
I think the Ioniq 5 N will be even better because of the totally revamped cooling they did. It has its own radiator specifically for the battery now and way more vents to pull air through
The battery optimization should have been done before you floor it on the autobahn, you didn't get the whole power, battery was too hot. One thing is for sure, with good enough temperature on the pack you are actually able to maintain full speed for a long time. As you very well said the car "rapidgates". IT does that at 51 degrees celsius and caps the max output to 230kw after a while. When you got out of the charger even on My Mode ou didn't get the 439kw max discharge because it was too hot, that's why you only saw arround 370kw. Still... this is nitpicking, it's pretty much a beast anyway. Very good car. Would get it over the i4M50 anytime.
I confirm I only get 42kw at Tesla v3 chargers (have tried 4 locations) and the limitation is not there at v2 chargers (have tried 3 of them). I drive and EV6. Kia told me the issue is for Tesla to change their software to accept the e-GMP cars on their v3 chargers.
@@ev_kimchi yes it is EU. All cars and chargers are by law CCS. There’s no adapter like the magic dock in the U.S. There are a few Teslas left with the Tesla plug (same as U.S.) from before the law was made. They have an adapter to use any charger.
@@stevenichols4639 Kia/Hyundai are 800v but Tesla (v2 and v3) can only give 500v. The car uses the rear motor to step up the voltage to the 800v the battery needs. At the v3 chargers I only get 100 amps. I have an OBD scanner which shows the car is requesting much higher amps. At an Ionity charger and all other which supply 800v the amps requested will be delivered. I don’t understand why it won’t work on the Tesla v3 chargers. Again the problem doesn’t exist at v2 chargers. It must be a communication issue i.e. software.
After the Update the EV6 GT line is charging quit good. Thermalmanagement has improved. And i like the clima autmatic, witch has 3 settings, heated and ventlated seats. All you can wish, except massage. I do not know how it is in the GT, this has sportseats.
GT does not come with ventilated (or electric) seats as they have the sport seats. GT Line however does come with ventilated and electric seats (with the nap function).
DC Chargers with 400V architecture and EV6 with 800V architecture constraints due to amperage limitations. Due to technical limitations you could get 325A and with 400V it means about 128kW. When I charge on 800V charger it will top ups very fast, 30->100% in 15 minutes (I was having lunch during the trip and didn't put 80% limit). On Tesla Superchargers (V3 and V4) there was some other technical limitation that allows only 42kW or roughly so. V2 can charge faster.
I wonder if the Ioniq 5N will have improved thermal performance. The marketing has talked about the track tuning and improved thermal regulation. Also the suspension tuning will be improved over the EV6GT
The better place to test the limits of the car would be on the Nurburgring. Anyone can enter it and unless there is a very specific exclusion, German insurance even covers it. You get to test frequent acceleration and regenerative braking and top speeds, without risking the safety of innocent Autobahn users. It takes just one car to underestimate your speed and get into your lane for you to crash into them. And while going at 260km/h is legal, you will still be deemed 100% at fault if you were above 130km/h.
i just don't think i'd be able to push a car to a speed like that, even if its "legal". all it would take is one slightly buzzed/tired/distracted person and someone wouldn't be coming home again. I love your videos Kyle, just remember to be safe.
10:28 EV6 and alpitronic have some weird interoperability issue, most of the time (like 99.9%) it will only assign three powerstacks (3x75), so the output is limited to 225 kW. There are threads on german language forums about this, people with hundreds of sessions never seen full speed on alpitronic. And then there are couple of individuals who have screens with full 237 kW power. Still not sure what exactly is the rootcause.
Could be a configuration issue to keep the second outlet available, all alpi wide cabinets have 4x75 or 100x4 for the new. So the software probably assign 3 modules to single outlet, reserve one module for the second outlet, otherwise it would have been “occupied” even if one car is charging and pulling over 225kW. Not sure but plausible.
Great video kind of shocking to see how quickly you can draw down a battery at 250 km give you credit for that my personal number and record is 200 that’s where my courage ran out by the way. Or more likely the car since it was a VW Passat.
Re Alyssa and straight line not feeling right, I have a GT so am used to this dashboard display and I see at 21:59 on the vid the lane keeping symbol on the dashboard shows that system is ON. So the car is trying to keep you in lane at 260 kph. Basically fighting what your hands and highly developed skills are doing. (I know you are great at car control) You can turn it off, but it seems to come back when you restart. It is a safety system do you cannot permanently disable it.
The Polestar 2 isn't really a performance vehicle in comparison to the performance EV's out there. It's just a re-skinned, stiff (even stiffer)Volvo recharge.
Previously eGMP vehicles could not charge at all on V3 chargers. It was a Hyundai/Kia software update that allowed them to charge initially at 50 kW and it was a promised additional tougher update that would allow them to charge to 100 kW. Tesla did not enable anything on their V3 chargers to allow these vehicles to go from not charging to charging 50 kW, so it would not make sense that it is Tesla restricting the power. It’s not Tesla style either to reconfigure their equipment to work better with other manufacturers. There supercharger access philosophy has always been if your vehicle can charge on our superchargers.. Great if you can’t too bad. This also is likely the main issue why Hyundai/Kia has not moved to NACS in the USA until this issue has been figured out or V4 have been widely deployed.
Looks like Tesla will have to do more work before Hyundai/Kia could accept the NACS system and using the Tesla Superchargers. I understand they are in talks with each other.
Is this EV6 also liquid cooled with two different fluids under the hood? Owners of Ioniq 5 have been quoted big money to replace these coolants and seem to be overpriced. Thoughts @KyleConnor and @OutofSpecReviews?
2 questions: Will that heat pump run in my garage at night making noise. What is the V to L capability could I use it the power couple sump pumps in my house during a power outage?
Please @KyleConner check out the Texas mile .. I'm waiting to see a bigger EV presence there... if folks wanna see faster adoption lets see some 200 mph runs at the Mile .. I think registration is closed for Octs race.. but I know you know folks that never heard of this that would love it..
The acceleration test after the second charge up to 50% SOC is 100% limited because you have to be over 70% SOC to get Max power output mode regardless of Batt or driveline temp.... Check the video at 37:00 it say it right on the screen.
This is correct technically, but my butt-dyno tells me that there's very negligable derating in the powertrain until you get low SOC (~ 20% in my much-less extreme real-world usage) or you really really get the battery hot (as Kyle did here). This video pretty much confirms the robustness of the EV6 GT powertrain and thermal strategies. In real-world normal driving situations in the States, power is just there all day all the time. Compare this with a more-expensive Mach-E GTPE or anything else approaching its price, and there's really no comparison
as ev_kimchi says while technically you need to be over 70% so get max power mode. But, these cars are beasts and the difference between max power mode and un prepped GT mode is minimal. and these cars put full beans out deep into pack. V2 SuC give you around 90kW, V3 give you 44kW. Completely pointless to go to a SuC with an eGMP car. There are countless 1000V chargers everywhere, they are usually in better locations and you dont need an app. Also, if you drive in Europe you need an RFID charging card. No preauthorisation, works everywhere (except SuC) and better price (I pay 29ct with the "Charge MyHyundai" card).
For my EV6 RWD, it definitely wants to have a larger radiator and/or fan. The bottleneck it seems to me is the coolant temp rather than the compressor power. The AC compressor also runs right at 100C+ in hot weather so it’s probably thermally limiting too. I’ve considered modding the car to add a second radiator and fan. Doing that correctly wouldn’t be easy though.
The preauth seems weird to me like it makes sense at a petrol station but at a charger you have to give them your card details before it will even start charging
I want to know how well the Ioniq 5N handles though. The EV6 GT handles like a dream on just about any road. Clearly I haven’t driven the N, but the base 5 and the 6 don’t come even close. That is more important for me as I will rarely be able to get up to these speeds to pull all the power the pack has

Being in the middle lane at that speed is a bit irresponsible (risk of inner lane merging), normally in Germany you should only go that fast in the outer lane and only seek the middle lane if someone is going faster than you.

I always get so excited when this channel releases a new video. Even if I have no intentions of buying whatever the video is about.
Happy Birthday Alyssa 🎉
This summer ive seen an ev6 charging at 143kw , soc 69%. What a beast
I was holding onto my couch and beer. Just needed a fan in my face.
I love how the range estimator goes down by the second when Kyle rips it hahah
Happy birthday A!
Love the high speed stuff. Keep em coming!
In the land of US of A -> Kyle would not be able to do that at all unless he will get lots of speed tickets or perhaps police arrest..
Happiest of birthdays 🥳 🎉to Alyssa!!
The amber turn indicators are AMAZING on the European models. Meanwhile, we're stuck with blinking brake lights. 🤬
Low/high beams: it has matrix LED head lamps, so just put it into auto mode by pushing the lighting stalk forward
It is on in the video
I would’ve gotten this one over the wind AWD but the lower range prevented me from doing so. Loosing around 50 miles in range was just a no go for me.
Happy Birthday, Alyssa!
Kyle, you asked in this video if any GMP cars charged succsessfully on magic dock during this video....i sent you a facebook message showing someone getting close to 100kwh from a supercharger recently....it was posted in an ioniq5 facebook group....
nice video, but to bad no OBD
that way the cell temps could conform your findings
I had my GT go into that mode once only.
The charge speed management is all about heat and is designed to protect the battery from damage. As an owner one should be pleased.
260 is some serious speed!
It has its own radiator specifically for the battery now and way more vents to pull air through
Best EV car review on Utube
Happy Birthday Elisa!
Kia told me the issue is for Tesla to change their software to accept the e-GMP cars on their v3 chargers.
this is in EU with CCS adapters, correct?
Issue is not the software it’s the voltage. They don’t have to adapt to work. They just need to adapt it to work better.
It must be a communication issue i.e. software.
"I love this car" "I can't believe how much car you get for the money" - What have I been telling you?! The EV6 is an EV juggernaut
🌶🌶🌶🌶
Love my GT line 2023
The EV6 GT is a killer deal right now due to markdowns EXCEPT for the lack of the tax credit
oh but if you lease it, KIA gives you the tax credit! and you can buy out the lease right away if leasing isn't your thing
i just don't think i'd be able to push a car to a speed like that, even if its "legal". all it would take is one slightly buzzed/tired/distracted person and someone wouldn't be coming home again. I love your videos Kyle, just remember to be safe.
German people drive probably ten times as well as an average American
It really isn't a problem in Germany. The roads and the drivers are good. I hit 160mph last week in my EV6 too.
Ahh so you are a Bjorn fan too 😅😂. Great to see it
BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL EV CAR ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nope. Taycan pulls up to the same station and gets 270 every time @@MrSportauspuff
Great video kind of shocking to see how quickly you can draw down a battery at 250 km give you credit for that my personal number and record is 200 that’s where my courage ran out by the way. Or more likely the car since it was a VW Passat.
Interesting that in US, Kia/Hyundai are not really talked about like Tesla.
What is a “ hair g force orometer?”
Mmmmmmm, spicy. I think Kimchi needs to take a trip down to the Scotts Valley Supercharger.
Wondering that the ambient light wasn’t switched to green lights in GT mode… 😊
Re Alyssa and straight line not feeling right, I have a GT so am used to this dashboard display and I see at 21:59 on the vid the lane keeping symbol on the dashboard shows that system is ON. So the car is trying to keep you in lane at 260 kph. Basically fighting what your hands and highly developed skills are doing. (I know you are great at car control) You can turn it off, but it seems to come back when you restart. It is a safety system do you cannot permanently disable it.
Also her comments at 46:32 summarized high-speed stability when driven in My Mode with suspension set softer than in GT Mode.
I would be interesting to see how the Polestar 2 does with thermal management, particularly the one with the new battery.
I understand they are in talks with each other.
they need v4 superchargers to be deployed for this to work properly with their existing cars

If it wasn't for dealer markups and lack of tax credit I'd have definitely gone with the GT-line over my Mach E.
Is this EV6 also liquid cooled with two different fluids under the hood? Owners of Ioniq 5 have been quoted big money to replace these coolants and seem to be overpriced. Thoughts @KyleConnor and @OutofSpecReviews?

Please @KyleConner check out the Texas mile .. I'm waiting to see a bigger EV presence there... if folks wanna see faster adoption lets see some 200 mph runs at the Mile .. I think registration is closed for Octs race.. but I know you know folks that never heard of this that would love it..

Damn man... the Ioniq 5 N will be even spicier!!!
This car is way more stable at high speeds than my C6 Z06 was.
I have run sun 3.6 0-60 on cold batter, cold tires, 60* damp road and

Wow. I said this b4 Kyle said it at 28:26
i laugh everytime to mentions "track day" in an EV6 lol
Fastned has auto charge in the app, so after activating that, you can just plugin the car Tesla style
The preauth seems weird to me like it makes sense at a petrol station but at a charger you have to give them your card details before it will even start charging
Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is said to have even better cooling and more power than the Kia EV6 GT, let see that review smoking on the autobahn!
I want to know how well the Ioniq 5N handles though. The EV6 GT handles like a dream on just about any road. Clearly I haven’t driven the N, but the base 5 and the 6 don’t come even close. That is more important for me as I will rarely be able to get up to these speeds to pull all the power the pack has
Just watching the charging session makes me so glad I have a tesla. That's ridiculous
So, you are saying the E-GMP platform is gimped?

Being in the middle lane at that speed is a bit irresponsible (risk of inner lane merging), normally in Germany you should only go that fast in the outer lane and only seek the middle lane if someone is going faster than you.
This video made me nervous as hell😮
Why?
I get more nervous watching other people drive fast than when I'm pushing the limits of the car I'm driving. Must be the controlling aspect of my personality. Like you, I started feeling nervous and then I reminded myself the video wouldn't have posted if there was anything to worry about.
