As a Indian I am sorry for what you faced. Passport is best ID accepted worldwide. Guy at hotel did not have sufficient knowledge to make the correct decision. I am sure you will have good experience in India, which has a beautiful landscape with diversity.
Hotels in India have to fill out a C-form for foreigners so the government can keep track of location of foreigners for security if they get kidnapped or whatever they can trace steps back using the C forms. Cheap hotels off the street will have never processed c form or a foreigner before so they don't know what to do. This usually results in "foreigners not allowed" which is not the case at all, but hotel does not know how to process foreigner using c form so uses the no foreigner allowed excuse.
I recalled my Kozhikode experience years back; walked in to few hotels and was turned away and eventually managed to locate one but was refused again because I was travelling solo. I did manage to get one at last, turned out the hotel was kinda haunted 😅.

As a Canadian, I too experienced the same in India. It turns out they have two different rates, one for the Indian citizens which is why they ask for Aadhaar card (national ID) and another rate for non citizens which is higher rate. Hotel booking website should recognize foreign credit for bookings to avoid these types of inconvenience in India.
I am not sure about two different rates but In India the hotels need to take some kind of permission from government to host foreigners, if you do not have written permission from government you cannot allow foreign nationals to stay that is why they ask for aadhar card or voter's ID. When you opt for cheaper hotels its usually that they do not have permission for foreign to stay. This has nothing to do with hotels. Apps like agoda and others should have clear distinguish for this. This is issue from the app.

I have spent ten months traveling by myself all over India and I never had any problems getting rooms at hotels and ashrams. There is a form to fill out if you are a foreigner. In oyo app, they clearly write whether hotel accepts foreigners or not. Because hotels have to keep a record of foreigners, & some hotels don’t want to bother with such.
I saw the 1st hotel part and came to this conclusion. The hotel guy heard 'courier' instead of 'Korea'. He might have thought the 'address proof is in courier". Instead don't speak Hindi and say that you are from 'South Korea' (use the south prefix). Smaller/low-budget hotels will not have that much experience in handling international travellers. Just a recommendation as I am a traveller myself.

Sorry about your ordeal man. I don't understand why such hotels are not blacklisted by accommodation booking sites. It is not okay even if they refund the booking amount, it's about the harassment. If I were at your position, I would never book again through agoda.

Online hotel booking apps must be looking it in advance Foreigners are forced to face such horrible experience. They should ask all the required IDs first, before payment.
6:23 that receptionist is the dumbest person....I think he mistook you for Indian and even after seeing the passport and you telling him you are a Korean, he couldn't wrap his head around the fact and kept asking for Indian Id cards. These are the people who make lives of foreigners problematic. I understand the requirement for ID cards, but the passport is there and you made the booking though Agoda, which itself is an authentication.
Hahaha dumbest and cringe too. I felt like punching through my screen and landing on his nose. But, then again, you can't expect a highly educated and well-trained personnel manning the reception at a 500 per night hotel room.
pls be careful when booking hotels. not all hotels have permission to accept foreigners. use reputed apps, hotels with good ratings, and check if they accept foreigners, before booking.
What do you mean by “permission to accept foreigners”? If it’s a hotel - it should be available to anyone who is willing to pay the rate and has a valid ID
@@iceberg789 Mostly all LEGIT Hotels in major cities can Accept foreigners👍👍 The hotel has to take a photo copy of the Valid Passport and Valid Visas,to give to the police!! 👍👍
Aadhar is not a proof of citizenship. The card itself writes this. A foreign resident can obtain an Aadhar card if he owns a valid permanent address in India. Of course tourists won't have it. Just clarifying.
Exactly what I went through. I had agoda booking, through OYO. I showed up at 3am with 2 huge suitecases after my 25 hr flight. I took stairs to take my suitecases upto 3rd floor. Then they told me they had no record of my booking. I called agoda, they told me they spoke to OYO. OYO told them there is no one at the counter, which there was. So OYO tried to take my money without giving service. Agoda should have refunded the money, but they told me since I was late, so the room could not be provided and gave me agoda cash. Agoda cash is to book again, which I did some other country. Dont use international booking sites for india hotels, unless you can confirm by calling hotels. Low priced(under 40$ a night), there is no guarantee that they speak english or even answer your call. Unfortunately, this is how india works, whether it is police, uber at the airport, or common folks.

Backpackers coming to India to see how much they can cheap out. Of course it will be a challenge.
Bro I also faced same issue and I'm Indian.
What these hotels in Kolkata do is that they have a cheap rate online to get customers and when you reach, they will say room not available to ask you to do offline booking/ pay extra.
Good luck bro hope to meet you somewhere more pleasant !
Just started following your videos. Very authentic! I look forward to more.
Welcome aboard!
You remained so calm through all that ordeal on the very first day of your arrival in Calcutta. Much respect and admiration, sir.
Low budget hotels are generally Ill equipped to manage foreign tourists. And their staff is untrained. One should stay away from them, if possible. There are good hostels ( Like Zostel) which are a far better option. I hope the rest of your trip goes smooth.
Nomadic jun, you remind me of a Korean blogger also named Inwook. You take care and Stay safe. New subscriber here, .love from the Philippines
Since you were already living earlier in India, im pretty sure you know north east India? the 7 sisters states... we are Indians but we look totally different from the rest of India. This is the reason that those hotels were asking for your Indian ID. They have no clue about foreigners. They must have been thinking youre from NE India. If you have time visit Shillong, Meghalaya..
Not all hotels have permission from govt to allow foreign guest because hotel requires proper standard and permission from govt to host foreigner.. its for the safety of foreigners not a scam..its just govt rule
I bron and bought up in Kolkata. Never been to China town but I want to visit that area eagerly. Hope next time you take precious memories with you. Love from Kolkata ❤
This is story of every traveller who book hotels via apps but on reaching the hotel they will charge you more or if you do not get agree they will say that rooms are not available.
We have seen an Indian in south korea was stopped to enter the pubs and bars reason is only that he was indan so much racism and when they come they want that everything must be good I also want everything must be good but at both places when a Korean girl myochi came so many people supported her and on that time just few days later I saw through dd react video that an Indian faced so much racism in korea so no problem everywhere there are some people everyone says this so think on the behalf of this only . Jai shree Ram ⛳ btw welcome to India
Agoda isn’t used in india by the hotels
I faced the same issue at 2am in night and I am an. Indian
Use Yatra or goibibo to book
Okay!! Thanks for the advice
Damn so clean Hindi
WTF Why they want adhar card from a Korean!!! 😳
Who gave that man a job! If I was him I would like to speak with higher authorities.
In oyo app, they clearly write whether hotel accepts foreigners or not.
Because hotels have to keep a record of foreigners, & some hotels don’t want to bother with such.
6 year really long time 😅 welcome to my city ❤
I saw the 1st hotel part and came to this conclusion. The hotel guy heard 'courier' instead of 'Korea'. He might have thought the 'address proof is in courier". Instead don't speak Hindi and say that you are from 'South Korea' (use the south prefix). Smaller/low-budget hotels will not have that much experience in handling international travellers.
Just a recommendation as I am a traveller myself.
very disappointing behavior of the hotel staff in India guest is always been treated like a God.
I think they might have mistaken you as an Indian from North East. so they asked you for aadhar card. Hope you will not face any difficulty in furthur journey. Happy Journey!
Aapka Bharat mein swagat hai!
I think its a case of being lost in translation and confusion..... Just because you are speaking in Hindi, they are assuming that you are Indian and you should have Adhar Card..... They completely misunderstood you. In a hindsight it was hilarious though asking a Korean national for Adhar Card.
Always use make my trip or goibibo to book.I also had bad experience with augoda
6:20 lol local hotel be like facing foreign countries for first time 😢, bro Visit Nepal also i am sure you will have good time here also ❤
The Hotel guy did Not understand,He thinks you are Indian,So normally your Passport and visas is fine, And the hitel will take a photo copy of your passport!!
6:13 one of the Foolest Receptionist in the world 😂😂
😂😂😂
This happened for me also even I am Indian....Many times Agoda cancel the booking
with your fluent hindi, and the way you look, no one thinks you are korean. Just tell them you are not Indian or speak only english. :D
I faced same issue..they dont allow through agoda or oyo so that they can charge more..
Calling hotel after reservation is a good option in India...They do this with many people...They make people more tired...
I never tried agoda. I always use make my trip or goibibo for flight, train, bus or hotel. I never faced this ever. This video makes me to stay clear from that app.💀
Sorry about your ordeal man. I don't understand why such hotels are not blacklisted by accommodation booking sites. It is not okay even if they refund the booking amount, it's about the harassment. If I were at your position, I would never book again through agoda.
so you had a first hand experience of what we call #IndianHonesty
it is a spl kind of honesty practiced in our society and only we understand its value more than others do
You are brilliant 👏 I being Indian, am not allowed to stay in Hotel if I fail to produce an Aadhar Card or Driving license ..
What if you show your Indian Passport! Will they reject that!
This is sad. A passport is a valid form of id for travel purposes.
A Drivers license or a Valid Passport is a best form of ID around the World!!
Your perfect Hindi threw them off. That guy could not comprehend that you are not Indian. 🤣🤣
Online hotel booking apps must be looking it in advance
Foreigners are forced to face such horrible experience.
🙌🏻, thank you for understanding my problem!!
Hahaha dumbest and cringe too. I felt like punching through my screen and landing on his nose. But, then again, you can't expect a highly educated and well-trained personnel manning the reception at a 500 per night hotel room.
Welcome To Northeast India
pls be careful when booking hotels. not all hotels have permission to accept foreigners. use reputed apps, hotels with good ratings, and check if they accept foreigners, before booking.
Thanks for the advice, I’ve learnt my lesson 🙏🏻
What do you mean by “permission to accept foreigners”?
If it’s a hotel - it should be available to anyone who is willing to pay the rate and has a valid ID
@@samroy5967 no. hotels need extra permission to host foreigners. some hotels may not follow the rule, anyways.
@@iceberg789 wow. In that case such hotels should not be listed in international booking sites
If they cater to Indian citizens ONLY
@@iceberg789 Mostly all LEGIT Hotels in major cities can Accept foreigners👍👍 The hotel has to take a photo copy of the Valid Passport and Valid Visas,to give to the police!! 👍👍
Your HINDI is so good, you dont; seems like foreigner. The reason given by second hotel was worse. How can he demand aadhaar card from a non-indian???
😂😂😂😂
6:16 😂😂😂 bruh dual citizenship is not allowed in india . he doesnt know that hotel recipient . how can bro get adhar card and same korean id same time
Aadhar is not a proof of citizenship. The card itself writes this.
A foreign resident can obtain an Aadhar card if he owns a valid permanent address in India.
Of course tourists won't have it. Just clarifying.
Aadhar is must for Indians. As you have interacted in hindi, the reception thought you are an Indian. So he had asked for ID.
Jun ... you should go to LTWA, at Dharamsala. If you could go down south to Karnataka, the exiled Tibetan colonies where some of Tibet's greatest monasteries are re-established. Let me know, I could help to make arrangements. All my Tibetan friends are living there ... of course, no commission; just for a friend from Korea!
Sorry brother there are many hotels who are harrassing and doing fraud like this , don't pay online Better to just know location and go to location and pay and Book there directly , they should have accepted passport though for foreign people as per I know, btw love ur Hindi speaking skills 👍🇮🇳🇰🇷❤️
🇮🇳🇰🇷💙
Dhaka to Kolkata bus rides are extremely popular. Sad you didn't get to experience that
Ik, but to get a visa in Dhaka was very difficult, they needed a month to process and I had to leave before that
Many small time hotels do not take forigener booking due to govt regulations
I guess these are few times speaking the local language really well backfired 😆.
I guess they were so confused, that they were like "bloody hell he says he's a foreigner and is speaking in such good hindi, he's definitely a scamster". 😂
As an Indian, I apologize too for the trouble faced by you, more so because your Country i.e. South Korea is a steadfast friend of India.
You should divulge the names of the hotels with Agoda booking details. Did Agoda refund you?
Yes they did refund me and the complaint was lodged successfully!! Thank you for your concern!!
As someone from North East India,i take precautions whenever i go to mainland, Delhi, haryana, Rajasthan,Jammu and Kashmir are okay but other places, not so much , most are ignorant, rude or downright Racist.
Same kind of racist attack toward nontribal only because we dont look asian in NorthEast and you talking sits here
Northeast states do not belong to India. They have their own country and have been independent for more than 2000 years. Manipur people are descendants from Yunnan Province, China
Don't use Agoda as there are lots of hotel which does not accept booking done thru it. Use other websites like make my trip or yatra
This is not true. I am from a NRI with Canadian passport and booked primarily through Agoda without a single problem during my three months of travel in India.
I personally recommend Kolkata best hostel - Bubble Bed location - Kalighat , nice location, service, everything is fantastic .
you can get Beef in Kolkata , some north east states and in Kerala too
Yes I got them!!! If you see my video in bodh gaya I had them!!!
Northeast states do not belong to India. They have their own country and have been independent for more than 2000 years. Manipur people are descendants from Yunnan Province, China
a tip for you during such situations; find a railway station nearby and ask for cloak room which is basically a reservation room provided by govt for a decent price
wow how long did it take for you to learn the language because you speak very well 👏 👍
6 years!!😄
@NOMADIC JUN wow 👌 well done my brother I just started to watch your videos today keep them up love your videos from pakistan 🇵🇰
That’s awesome m, I’ll be visiting Pakistan too😊
How can hotel management ask for Indian Aadhaar card from a Korean???😂😂😂
It seems that people and hoteliers are asking for Aadhaar card considering Hindi speaking Korean as Nepali of India, that's why they are not believing him to be Korean.
Because you confused them and there is little unrest in northeast too so it's not there fault
Really like your video!
Passport should work anywhere for hotels. its very irritating why hotels didnt allow to stay with passport. Seems like they didnt have experience of handling foreigners. small hotels me aisi problems kabhi kabhi aa jati hai.
Welcome to India ❤❤❤❤
Hotel receptionist He did fraud with you..
In Kolkata city there is lots of people like that as an Indian We are really Sorry for that 😞 Welcome to India 🙏
what were you doing in India during the 6 years ?
But this kind of issue has never happened in Gujarat, once i visited Somnath, there were so many foreign tourists who came to somnath, the hotel i was staying in ,there were so many foreigners, they also did online booking for their staying, and they showed only passport and visa as their ID card, that was sufficient, i don't know what's the issue with west bengal
You must be joking! It has happened to me in Navsari (my fathers hometown) +Varodara. It happened in a hotel in which I stayed in so many times before! I am British passport holder!
They thought your are northeast India guy.
Hope you understand
Hey guys, I experienced the same after booking through Agoda in Kedarnath and Badrinath..Don't use Agoda..They 've taken total 15000 from me..And then I had to book again..
Should be coming to the northeast, Shillong Meghalaya India. When my wife travels to the rest of India it's always asking what country you from or called Chinese. Even try charging her foreigner charge at the museums and tourist attractions by the government. Even been told her India passport and pan card was fake lol. At that point we leave.
This is called double standard .6th scheduled=discriminatory LAW against nontribal(non asian people) no job no land treating us as we are not human being
Northeast states do not belong to India. They have their own country and have been independent for more than 2000 years. Manipur people are descendants from Yunnan Province, China
We are really sorry 🙏 for your inconvenience agoda shame on you i face the same issues with agoda they should close the company if they not provide perfect service, have no control on hotels, and passport if more then enough ID any where in India.
No problem!! I am fine now and enjoying India to to the fullest!! You are awesome for caring for me!!!
Felt bad... Feel sorry brother.. appreciate your language skills.. 😊.. you can visit South of India to explore more nature kind of places.. stay safe.. always think and act before taking any decision.. otherwise you're going scam by bad people.. all the best ❤️🤗
whao!! i'm so surprised that your hindi is much better than mine...
He is confused, hotel guy is thinking that u r from northeast india.
Very sorry for your trouble🙏🏻. They must be uneducated people on the reception otherwise they wouldn’t have asked you for the aadhar card. Next time please carry any photo ID with your address in korea it’s mandatory in India for hotel booking. There are always some good and bad experiences. I wish you will get good experiences from now on. You’re always welcome to India!
I will suggest you to download multiple hotel booking applications for convenience..and try to connect with local people b4 going somewhere they will be more helpful
Thanks for the advice!!
Agoda must take full responsibility for these
Jun, if you have a low budget, hostels are a better option you'll get to meet other travellers too and enjoy ❤
