In our interview with director Jérémie Périn, we played through some of his retro video game inspirations while discussing the film's themes. In this clip, Périn discusses the origins of the character of Carlos Rivera, his journey of acceptance, and parallels with Paul Verhoeven's seminal sci-fi thriller ROBOCOP.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
In 2200, private detective Aline Ruby and her android partner Carlos Rivera are hired by a wealthy businessman to track down a notorious hacker.
On Mars, they descend deep into the underbelly of the planet’s capital city where they uncover a darker story of brain farms, corruption, and a missing girl who holds a secret about the robots that threatens to change the face of the universe.
    About the director:
Jérémie Périn was born in 1978 in the north of France. He studied animation at the renowned Gobelins school, graduating in 2000. Since 2001, he has worked for various animation studios, acquiring solid experience in storyboarding, layout, compositing, and design. He moved on to directing in 2004 with TV series pilots and short films.
In 2007, he collaborated with the studio JE SUIS BIEN CONTENT as a producer and director on various series such as CO2, Nini Patalo and Socks. He also works at Autochenille Production, working on the development of The Rabbi’s Cat and Sardine in Outer Space. In 2009, he directed the opening credits of the film Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life and the music video “Truckers Delight” for the band Flairs. In 2016, he wrote and directed the Lastman series. Mars Express is his debut feature film.

Wow. Didn’t know he was a big fan of RoboCop. I’ll bet he liked the very original and the 2014 version.

If he was inspired by RoboCop, what’s next? The ED-209’s from the 2014 remake? Or Terminators by chance?
