In the year 2032, the line between humans and machines has been blurred almost beyond distinction. A string of murders perpetrated by a prototype android model has drawn the attention of Public Security Section 9, a unit specializing in counter cyber-terrorism. With none of the victims' families pressing charges, suspicions arise regarding the nature of the androids and their production company. For anyone that likes Mamoru Oshii, give Sky Crawlers a watch. Very underrated and not talked about.
Sky Crawlers is great although I need to watch it again. First time i watched it, the theme of the movie was too heavy for me that I couldn't understand some of it
I just saw Sky Crawlers the other night! Despite the obvious low budget, it was great - pretty bleak and depressing though.

I saw this movie in the theaters when I was younger and I'll never forget the movie wound down and ended and as soon as the credits started to roll some guy in the back let out a massive "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!"

I remembered watching Ghost in the Shell 2 on a DVD back in 2007 and it literally blew my mind at how gorgeous the animation is. Even though we all now the original Ghost in the Shell is a classic, the sequel still holds up in terms of animation. I'm so happy everyone's getting to see this in theaters remastered in 4K.

Oof, how is the CGI in SAC2045 worse than the 20+ year old movies or even Final Fantasy the Spirits Within? sigh.

Man this movie already looked amazing but NOW?! HELL YEAH
To this day I still wish they would've just gone full 2D animation. The animation quality itself would've aged better that way. Nonetheless, I'm NOT going to miss out on this in theaters! I wasn't able to go to the 4k theatrical run of the original film a few years ago, so I need to go to this one. I'm so glad that Anime has gone through a mainstream renaissance in the last 6 years. We've gotten Akira, Millenium Actress, Original GitS, Innocence, End of Evangelion, Perfect Blue, Mamoru Hosoda's filmography, and Ghibli Fest (Ghibli Fest is yearly) all in theaters. Can't wait to see more classics come back to theaters! 🙌

Mamoru Oshii has put everything he has into this masterpiece and completed it. It is new even if you see it now. He gathered the best animators in Japan at that time to produce it. Mamoru Oshii said, "I can never make an animation like this again. Mamoru Oshii said, "There is no gathering of geniuses like this.
My favourite film of all time right here. If you love sci-fi, noir, action or philosophical films.. This is a masterpiece! Could not recommend it more!

I have some questions about your questions. Are you talking about the 1995 anime movie? If so that already has a 4K bluray release and if you are talking about the first movie being shown in theaters, well that was in theaters last year in September I believe as part of Anime Expo movie nights. I hope that answers your question.

So happy this is getting a re-release. I might love this one more the the OG. The uncanny effect of the 3d PS2 era graphics mixed in with the 2D animation works so well for me. The visual language in this movie is insane, I cant wait im so excited lol
in Japan they received awards for it so if made in the United States a producer would have to face a witch hunt of lynch mob hysteria so Kudos to Japan for still being free.

I'd love a Steelbook for this also, but there is a 4K disc available for this already too! It's a Japan import but it does have English subtitles. Very good looking 4K movie!

Curious how they managed the remaster - early CGI is apparently difficult as you’re stuck with the resolution the effects were rendered at originally..AI upscaling perhaps?
As always prize giving luxury galas give praised to violent and inconclusive movies... but this is different beyond what were acostumed about robots taking over the world and stuff like that i will give it a chance one day and see if actually worth a remaster

@@Mi-Jung_Kim-tq2bl Good point. The damaged body still exists in Section 9. Bato has the head somewhere in his safe house, which is a bit creepy. Finally there is the replacement body, which is a little girl in the anime and a young man in the manga. They all exists somewhere, but Kusanagi's mind in not in them. The manga does have her returning and using her old body, in some cases more than one body, which i assume she had made for herself. But i am not certain if that is movie cannon. There is manga cannon, movie cannon & SAC cannon and they all seem to differ in minor ways, although in basic theme they are the same.

When this gets released on UHD, it's gotta be better than that horrible US release of the movie originally which only had Hard of Hearing captions instead of proper subtitles. And it's got to be better than the Japanese 4K which has some serious issues.

Mamoru Oshii directed movies are not for everybody.
This movie definetly is not bad., average with glorious GC and amazing soundtrack.
You should try see the first Patlabor movie, quite miserable and way more boring than this in any aspect.

It better have CC subtitles as a SEPARATE option this time! Nothing ruins an anime like (scary noise) and (dramatic music) in the dialogue section
GKIDS releases always coming in two subtitle options: One English subtitles for the Japanese dub (without the sound cues) and one CC subtitles for the English dub

Bandai and funimation have done multiple updated releases since then.
