Wasn't HK 47 the one that always said Meatbag? I played it a looooooooong time ago but still remember Meatbag. In that case I did take him around, jaja.

I only ever took the two of them along. If you built your character right it didn't matter whom your companions were, so I always chose Canderous and HK.

I've done 100% completion playthroughs with all of the party members and there is a lot of dialog and they say a lot of things to each other.....

Atton is the Han Solo type, but if you really get to know his character, he's way darker. He's one of my favorite game characters ever.
Atton isn't really that much like Han Solo, either. He cracks jokes, but he is broodier and less sure of himself. He does not feel as roguish or as carefree as Han.

I think their point was that its just lazy in general, regardless of the fact that it came from A New Hope and just tweaked the word Tatooine a bit.

not really i ran around with Carth and Mission on Telos, Bastila and Canderous on Dantooine, Canderous and HK-47, on Korriban, and Bastila and Mission on Tattooine, and Zaalbar and Carth on Kashyyk(until the whole thing with Zaalbar's brother), and the only times i had a full jedi party other than when it forced me to(confrontation with bastila) was on Manaan with Juhani and Jolee, i preferred the story that way (though the planet order was Telos, Dantooine, Tattooine, Kashyyk, Manan, Korriban, Rakattan Prime)

I often skill my main char to lockpick too because I don't want to limit my team too much
also if you're doing a dark side playthrough and don't have HK in your team, are you even playing?
Until 2 where suddenly almost all your companions can become jedi, if you know the secrets.
Man that was such a pain to figure out before the days of good guides. Especially Bao Der.

Second one is pretty easy to shit on. There is pretty much no difference in the light side dark side endings and your dark jedi old lady tries way too hard to make positive outcomes sound bad.
I mean you could bring up the utterly shitting combat. Nothing makes a game feel more distant than turn based combat, especially Star Wars.

Im playing and I usually went Carth/Mission and Bastilla (apparently people hate Carth. I kinda like him). I thought I always needed a Jedi but I just fought Malak and almost killed him so quick I think im gonna stop using Jedi
KOTOR 2 was not by Bioware, Obsidian made it.
And Obsidian completely screwed it up, just like Neverwinter Nights 2.
It was incomplete on release. If you use the restored content mod, it's a great game.
Even without restored Content Mod its a great game. Saying Obsidian Screwed up a Sequel to a game like Kotor (i mean its not easy to make a Sequel to that game) is just wrong.
Its not even Shorter than Kotor 1 just some plants and location feel shorter or the end a bit rushed but common dont make it bad.
For me it got the more interessting cast, there is more of an Grey Area and not simple Good and Evil. Kreia is really interessting and has an unusal goal compared to most antagonists, its also interessting how the antagonist is your master and party member.
And its not Obisidans fault btw. LucasArts, giving not enough time and even canceling the sequel to kotor 2.
I wonder if Kotor 2 would be on OG Xbox if they had 1 year more time...
When I first played it, I was a little put off. All the environments felt dead and didn't hold the wondrous appeal of the first game.
Khinzaw Thein Mhhh i see. I didnt felt like that. But the beginning is quite lonely so mabe thats why. But Nar Shaddaa is an awesome Arc of the game. Similar to Taris from Kotor 1 i have allways to think about those places when thinking about Star War Universe.

@@daltinbrock6291 Not likely. The Dantooine base in Kotor is a Jedi Enclave that gets destroyed near the end of the first game.
I doubt a ruin would make a good rebel base 4000 years later.

They were calm, collected and cold-blooded. They'd make excellent assassins master. Perhaps as good as yours truly.
I'm surprised noone has mentioned Kreia from KotOR II yet, who is the best villain in all of Star Wars IMHO. Darth Vader is the best on-screen villain while HK is the best droid.

Agreed. I highly enjoy TOR (atually played that before either KOTOR game) but I hate the MMO aspect. You miss out on so much content if you don't play with others and I hate playing with others!!

Am I the only one pissed he compared Carth to Han? Carth is the most prominent goody 2 shoes in the star wars lore that I know of. Mean while Han is a smuggler that moved spice for Jabba the hutt. As well as being wanted in a ton of systems. Carth was a member of weenie hut jr.
As far as Kotor 1 goes I think Canderous is the closest to a Han Solo type, the guy that does his own thing until something greater comes along

it wasn't a doomsday weapon but it still fits in that category, in 2 years that thing was able to make an armada capable of whooping the republics ass. Now you could argue that the republic was still weakened from the Mandalorian wars, but the fact that one jedi came back with a fucking armada just ends it.
All i want is a remaster of these games. Bring them up to the level of depth the mass effect series had.
You can get kotor 1 on mobile, it works fine except the occasional bug that shuts it down, so save frequently

Agree with remaster. The oldest mods that made this clunky thing bearable arent as easily obtained anymore and the TSL patcher is just annoying as it is convenient. You have to really, really like Star Wars to enjoy playing this on PC (in 2018). I can see myself killing time with it on mobile though if Im just chillin somewhere. Think its like 10 bucks.
Update the graphics and sound, keep the same basic plot but fix the line writing, expand the side quests, and totally dump the the combat system and just pretend it never happened because oh god, why!? and you'd have something pretty great.

Pretty damn familiar development story setup: Obsidian gets contracted to develop sequel within a ridiculously small timeframe, but at least has the same systems, game engine, & mechanics to work with as a template, & ends up either making a surprisingly competent experience within the small timeframe. At least when it comes to KOTOR 2 from what I've heard (never played any KOTOR game), in the case of New Vegas, they also had some story scraps from Interplay's work on their version of Fallout 3, & about half a year longer to work on it than KOTOR 2, & managed to do everything Fallout 3 did, but better.
Obsidian perfected Fallout, IMO. And they made the greatest set of expansions/DLCs ever. Couldn't get into KOTOR 2 though. The first KOTOR was a masterpiece in its own right.

Courtney Valdez Fallout New Vegas is the most boring game in the series. The world is boring the story is boring and even the characters are boring. They didn't perfect anything they just took Fallout 3 and made it more boring.

Steven Chapman Obsidian took Fallout 3 and made a game out out of it. The story, faction, characters, environment, and everything was better. Fallout 3 was boring as shit. Walk around a blown up city, do boring side missions, install a water filter, and die. Bethesda had to go Mass Effect 3 and release Broken Steel fix their screw up. New Vegas was great, and Lonesome Road; Honest Hearts; and Dead Money were just great expansions. To me New Vegas is the best Fallout, and most people agree with me.

They actually did that to save coding work. The made DnD games before, and reused parts of it.
At the time these games came out WOTC owned D&D and had the Star Wars RPG license KotoR used a derivative of the table system.
@@timothyfreeby1031 Bioware used their own game engine for KOTOR which they had developed for Neverwinter Nights, which is D&D by a different name. They also used basically the same engine for Jade Empire and Dragon Age, and CDPR used it for The Witcher. Which is why the games all feel very similar and D&D-ish.
@@BigUriel I wasn't talking about the game engine but the game mechanics. I literally have the table top books for this Star Wars system. BG and IWD as well as Neverwinter Nights are set in Forgotten Realms, a D&D setting. DA and Jade empire use a different game system and along with Mass Effect Bioware's own settings and systemd... Anthem as well.
@@timothyfreeby1031 They're different in a number of ways but fundamentally from a technological perspective they all seem very similar. Lots of point and click, skill check mechanics, the party system etc. Jade Empire is so similar it seems like an "ancient China" mod for KOTOR.

Got KOTOR on mobile, it's basically the exact same.
Now I've signed the petition to get KOTOR II onto mobile as well. Hopefully when they port it, they fix the notorious ending that fans had to fix.
Wasn't just that; I swear there was a 1/4 of the game missing; luckily there was a user created mod to restore scrapped content for KOTOR II that never made release due to Lucas Arts pushing for an Xmas deadline. I really ought to get back into KOTOR actually; I never managed to beat either game, and I never got to play the restored content mod.
It's kind of funny, because a big tease in KOTOR II was the HK droid factory, which at the time I assumed I played the game wrong because HK-47 mentions it, you destroy a few HK-50's but after fulfilling the quest I never got to visit the factory...The reason was that it was one of the scrapped content parts.
If you get KOTOR 2 off steam the mod TSLRCM is on there.... that will patch up all of the missing files including missing Lines and missions..... even fixes the G0-T0 story too...it makes the game feel whole.
also you can only run up to 5 mods at a time so choose wiseley.... reccoment just using HD Graphics mod and TSLRCM for the first few completions.

I just hope that if they do port KOTOR II, they include all the content that was added later by fans, rather than just having a direct port.
The thing about the "lazily named" Dantooine is that it was mentioned in the original Trilogy. Specifically, "A New Hope", when Leia was given the ultimatum to either reveal the location of a rebel base or see Alderaan destroyed.
The awkward moment, when you realize that Dantooine is a backwater farming community, that Leia felt could be sacrificed as a misdirection, because it was sparsely populated (*not* uninhabited) and politically insignificant.
I loved that in-joke when Bastila ‘broke’ under torture. Now that I think about it, the Sith did invade Alderaan a couple years later. Guess the writers deserve more credit than I give them.

kind of annoying how the only really fun/interesting characters are the dark side ones, they are also way better to have around as light side char than to run around with light side team with a dark side char

Honestly, I don't get the assertion that sequals/remakes can ruin the original. If the new ones are good, then great, mission accomplished. On the otherhand; however, even if its bad, just don't buy it. It dosen't affect the originals, they would still remain good even if the new one isn't.

Pretty much, yeah. To be fair, back in the old days, before EA bought them, Bioware also made pretty nice RPGs, like Baldur's Gate and the one in this trailer, the first SW:KotOR.
Bioware is good at making games, but terrible with storywriting. We need a joint project to achieve the best game possible.

yup, but it was still good, because they didn't change the game a lot. And the changes that were made were pretty cool/didn't affect the game at all. And the script was damn good as well. Was very interesting to reveal the past of Mandalorian wars,Revan master's past etc.

Kotor 2 is hands down my favorite Star Wars game. I absolutely loved the more gritty, dark overturns and the companions who can all be made (except Canderous) into Jedi or Dark Jedi. Shame on Bioware/EA for making SWTOR which sucks instead of Kotor 3...and Drew for ruining the Exile's character in the Revan novel.
Dude - I know you wrote that comment 2 years ago but it's so good to see that there are other people out there who feel the same about those games. I really love the first game and think it's overall the better gaming experience since it got less bugs and stuff but the second one was way more creative und complex in it's writing and atmosphere. To be honest, I prefer this dark version of Star Wars over what the movies did even though I really like them as well. But KOTOR felt realistic and believable in it's own way. It's more of a story for adult Sci Fi fans than the family friendly movies.
Aren Kae Surik saying SWTOR sucks is a little unfair. It has several interesting storylines such a the Agent,inquisitor and Jedi knight(which is the closest to Kotor 3). And a great overarching story as well. Plus awesome customization options and a combat system which usually flows smoothly most of the time.
Toonzy I agree swtor is fun and has good stories. I do wish they made a kotor 3 though.

If you consider anything that MMO has done to be "KoTOR3" I question your intelligence, for it has thrown bullshit after bullshit just to reuse Revan constantly and has offered no real unique mechanics, instead the game decided to remove a lot of what set it apart and go the EA route and add micro transactions that can get you great items off start and basically any item to rival the items of a player who grinded for all of his/her shit.
Jedi Knight storyline from The Old Republic pretty much IS KotOR 3...(sadly)
Just give us a great remaster of the first KoToR with some extra sidemissions. I don't even care if they give it even more DLC or something il buy that shit on release day!
I'm honestly betting at this point with the time that has passed since KOTOR 2 and the investment in the MMO, and the fact that Bioware is busy with Mass Effect that Disney would basically just reboot this franchise or replace it with something similar anyway. Although an updated KOTOR along the same lines as the original with modern graphics and the kind of improvements that Bioware has brought to mechanics with Mass Effect and Dragon Age would be pretty awesome.

Kashyyyk was first shown in Ep3. KOTOR was made 2 years earlier, so it was a brand new thing.
Korriban was one of the most interesting locations in the whole SW franchise, they really explored a lot more of the lore of the Sith in the games which the movies never reveal much about.

The publisher made the developer cut the ending to release the game on date. Today, modders have restored it. It's on the Steam Workshop.

Actually the end wasnt WAY different but with the mod the game felt so much more...fulfilled.. i just bought it on Steam to play with the mod and its 100% worth
the Mod is legit as fuck, i played it through 4 times more just to get all the conversations and scenarios. Without bias one of the best mods IMO that really made a cgame complete
I have a play through with 271 hours played on it..... I really wanted to make sure i got everything because Bioware have a lot of secret or hidden missions in their games... and i have had the game since forever. xD

That is just partly true. Obsidian tried to ment together the pieces Bioware had already created. That is maybe the reason the second part is such a mess as a working RPG
Roger Lynch Obsidian made the game working from what the first game had, but BioWare had no part in it. The issue the sequel had was only one year of development time.
BioWare provided Obsidian the Oddessey engine and the KOTOR assets. That's where their involvement ends.

Considering that Rakata Prime and Malechor survived the purge and that Kylo's armor looks more inspired by Revan than Vader, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney is talking with Bioware about a remake.

I think Filioni basically plotted out the scripts and storyboards for Revan to enter the canon during the clone wars series--which they showed during a conference panel. When the show was canceled the story was put on hold.

honestly it's insane how many good games that were on the original Xbox. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 . Halo 1 and 2 Panzer Dragoon orta Jet Set Radio Future. in that generation of consoles the original Xbox had some of the best console exclusives hands-down.

The doomsday device is actually a building tool not a destruction device. Carth is a broken war hero not a smuggler. And the Reylo connection was based off Bastilla and Revan sharing dreams. Canderous is way more bad ass then Boba Fet. And I’m not so sure you understood this game at all.

The overall story, in my opinion, is more interesting in KOTOR 2, but the whole unfinished-ness of KOTOR 2 really holds it back.
You can always use the Restored Content Mod that finishes the game.
Xoltan The Conqueror Of course, but it doesn't completely finish the game or do so in a very smooth manner. Consulars are still horribly unbalanced, and the HK Factory mission is ridiculously difficult compared to everything else, plus a number of conversations and plot points feel thrown together and confusing.
I think it tells a much better story filled with grey areas and such. Bioware never really tells great stories. They develop great characters. Obsidian did both. Similar to Fallout New Vegas.
The restored content mod gives a glimpse of what could have been the finest written stories in gaming.

Its the scraps of Kotor 3 hastily grafted onto an admittedly above average mmo but it's not the same experience as a dedicated single player RPG.

Seriously everyone, a Star Wars RPG does not yet exist that surpasses the original KOTOR. KOTOR 2 was ok, but the first one was better. The second one just lacked the same polish and honestly felt unfinished.
They ran out of time and they weren't allowed to extend it. There was SUPPOSED to be an actual ending.

Asher Flanagan Obsidian didn't finish it in time and were refused an extension. Even without the restored content mod it is my preferred game of the two because it had better characters and story. The RCM just made it even better for me.
I liked the improved UI and the combat, it felt faster and less tankish, and the balance was better, i didn't die faster thanks to the perks and new additions, the story was meh, but the rest was good, i miss the old days T-T

At least the Sith are honest about what they're killing for. The Jedi are pacifists... except in times of war. They're teachers... except when it comes to telling their students the truth. And when they save you, it's only so you can suffer more.

yeah atton would be more han soloy than carth, but even hes a bit different once you get deep into his story.
KOTOR 1 does not have a planet sized weapon of destruction. I won't say what it is to avoid spoiling the entire plot of the game, but in no way do I believe it is anything resembling a Death Star. KOTOR 2 has one, but it is irrelevant to the plot of the game or any of the twists.
But yes, Bioware pretty much took Dungeons and Dragons, simplified it tremendously, and made it a Star Wars game. I find it SO much more enjoyable than any D&D game actually made by D&D. I still play now.
