Old crowed be for COVID-19
She really gets it.
@@da_uno t
Definitely, and she is such an interesting and beautiful person.
@@da_uno You can see her thinking "No. No, you're not an imbecile"
"Today I'm listening to Tool for the very first time". Damn.. can you imagine going back to that day? What a treat.
watching someone have that moment is amazing
Watching them live is a religious experience
I'd begin to cry...again
it's a straight up lie and you should know that. all those "react" videos are staged and rerecorded until it looks good
I remember my first time. Lifechanging
"How is he doing this?" is the question we've all been asking ourselves about the whole band for the last 30 years.
PalmDesertRock what’s crazy is his writing ability far surpasses his singing ability. Never gets enough credit. But the guy is as close to a genius as a songwriter can get.
@Luka K. not really sure why you're telling me that like I dont know but ok lol?
@Luka K. omg shut the fuck up you fucktard. Everyone knows that. You sound stupid.
Amen brother !
Drugs. Lots and lots of drugs lol
"I forgot to talk..."
....welcome to the rabbit hole
This comment is highly underrated.
I went down the rabbit hole in 1998 and I never looked back!
@@mmprettypistol 1996 for me
TOOL is a genre all on their own. Nobody sounds like TOOL and never will.
what about COOL? They sound pretty familiar
True, i sometimes like to call it psychedelic metal. Not because of drugs (ab)use, but because of the deep lyrics and the captivating and hypnotic compositions they create.
It sometimes puts you in a state of trance.
@@L3monSqueezy Well another Prog rock band from the same era as Pink Floyd (and continuing to this day) who sound more like Tool are King Crimson. The band have cited King Crimson as a big influence over the years and Maynard even said once "King Crimson is pretty much who we ripped off over the years".
You obviously never heard of King crimson tool sounds like them and their latest album fear inoculum sounds a lot like King crimson
You should listen to Soen, reminds me of TOOL a lot.
Maynard is a vocal God! He doesn’t just sing the song. He is the song.
Maynard is GOD.
Hahaha
That is the best description of Maynard I have ever heard. It is so true.
I had a chance to see Tool in the early 2000s! Unfortunately the date that I was supposed to see them was SEPTEMBER 11TH! They had 3 shows in Ohio that week and with the grounding of planes, Tool couldn't make it in an the show was canceled! 2 of the 3 shows were rescheduled but not mine! I refused to ever go to a Tool show strictly so I will always remember that day and hate the perpetrators of the atrocity because of what they did and made me miss the best performance by a band live!
I'd say that he doesn't even really sing. His voice is the fourth instrument in TOOL; it perfectly blends in with everything else. That's esp. true of Fear Innoculum.
I love watching people who understand music react to more heavy music and actually see the art
"How is he singing in that position?"
You should see the time he hip tossed a fan, sat on top of him with the mic cord around his neck.
you forgot where he proceeded to dry hump the shit out of him
Right! Lmfao
One of the best performances I have ever seen
Legend has it he had to piss reeeeeeeal badly

An old friend summed up Tool perfectly for me: They don't perform, they manifest.
"This is what music is supposed to be." Sending a virtual hug from a lifelong Tool fan. I agree.
I love how people get really impressed when they listen to Tool for the first time no matter if they like the genre.
Saw a video of Sober on MTV when they still did music videos. (120 Minutes?) Puppet animation if I recall. Instant fan!
Watching all kinds of different people be taken aback by Tool has made me realize this band is special. They're going to be discussed by future generations. Hopefully we get some more reacts to Tool on this channel, because this was great.

SOmetimes they are interested in Maynard, especially women :D
Being 51 I get a lot of “why do you listen to that angry music”. They don’t understand the raw emotion some of these rock bands can give.

BTW I am not far behind you gentlemen!
Same here, I am 48 and female and this is the type of bands i ever listened too since i was young, and i am glad when people take the time to really listen and understand WHY!!!
This is why there is a TOOL Army and the fans are so passionate. My wife constantly catches me tearing up 😢 to songs I've heard a thousand times. This is also why the Army likes 1st reactions so much. We get to relive that first time Vicariously (that's a hint) through someone else.

Truth!

Me: hold the f*** on lady!!!
Easy girl...get ready 1st...put a leg up... somethin

Perfect Analogy😊
I'm so glad someone finally appreciated Maynards "theater" as you put it. Most other reactions just think he's on drugs or something stupid and dont realize how much he is just planting his mind firmly in the core of the music, and allowing his body to express it.
opiateofthemasses thank you!! You are exactly right. “Theater” is the perfect word for Maynards performances...and “fucking awesome” too!!
opiateofthemasses If you enjoyed the theater element of this performance please react to Tool - pushit ( salival ) live in Lewiston.
I saw TOOL at Lalolpooloza '97. He came out wearing yoga silver pants, a red be hive wig and a set of DD b@@bies held.in place by a fishnet shirt. Their performance blew my MIND. Fan for life!
People are idiots.. They used.. Ofc.. But. Not constantly... Especially not while performing... IDIOTS DONT REALISE HOW HARD IS TO PERFORM LIVE.. TO SUSTAIN THE VOICE.. if he was a junkhead instead he wouldve ended up like cobain and layne.. Stop thinking everyone is on drugs just cuz you think its cool.. Geez
Anna Bulgariu Maynard never did drugs. Sober was a commentary on Layne and what he saw.
"They" say you don't listen to Tool, you experience Tool. Welcome to the Tool Fam!
Fuck yes🤙👍👏
The great thing about Tool (as well as a lot of progressive rock bands) is that they're masters of their instruments and lots of aspiring musicians look up to them.
So many guitarists look up to Adam.
So many drummers look up to Danny.
So many vocalists look up to Maynard.
They’re truly All Stars
Top of their craft no doubt about it.
Classic, forgetting the bassist. Justin Chancellor is insane.
All drummers look up to Danny.

Damn, I pray that I am that lucky one day. I am 31 now and I truly believe I was lucky growing up listening to my dad's records of led zeppelin and king crimson to the moody blues.

Way to go 👏 A few things my 6 year old is getting for Christmas (per his wish list) include: a drum set & guitar, and Rage Against The Machine, Chris Cornell, and Tool t-shirts. He is one cool ass kid (and I'm a cool ass mom 😂)
Never get tired of people hearing tool for the first time.
Your reaction is so spot on! Thank you for recognizing how amazing TOOL is. Maynard Keenan is a musical genius!
As a recovering addict this song has always been the embodiment of what it's like. I was fortunate enough to see this live and I as well as those around me had tears streaming down my face. Tool is just Tool period!
Alright, welcome to the opening of the Tool Rabbit Hole. Keep your arms and legs in the car at all times and buckle up as this is going to be a once in a lifetime ride. I envy you so much. I would give anything to hear this band for the first time, all over again. Have fun.
Scott Werner is there anything better on the internet then seeing someone falling down the rabbit hole?
They are still amazing to me, each and everytime I listen.
And that rabbit hole never ends…
SAME. I am SO JEALOUS.
Right?!
He is singing in a fetal position, basically. Whoa! His lungs are squashed, his diaphragm is squeezed, his body is tense, and yet he's managing to have breath control and modulation. Whoa. Captivating and moving and raw and a full on performance (from the outfit - if you can call it that - he's wearing, to the expression and body language and lyrics). I have never heard him (or of him) before, and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to listen to this through your reaction. Wow. It IS theater. A piece of art. Music as art. Thank you for your genuine, heartfelt reaction, Christi. Addiction is real, and this song is real, and it is what music can do, convey truths, especially when done so by the skilled.
Beautifully said, Annie. This comment is the cherry on top. Thank you for your thoughtful insights that connect the dots further for me and this community. I appreciate your heart so much. 🌟

Maynard was a runner and wrestler in school and now does Jiu Jitzu. So he has trained to breathe under tension - it's still astonishing...

I love how within 30 seconds of the song she's utterly in love like the rest of us.
Pleeeease more Tool. This was like the only professionally recorded live performance though, so everything else would have to be studio versions. They just released their first album after 13 years, it actually beat Taylor Swift for #1 on the billboards.

Welcome to metal, sis 🖤
Metal?
Metal?
TOOL...metal???
um...
i'll leave that one for ya to figure out by yourself.
You oughta watch that old interview with Adam Jones where he said when people call them metal, it makes him feel like he needs to go take a bath 🤣
It' not really metal, it's progressive rock.
Watching someone fall for Maynard's voice the way I did... 10/10!!
Tool is probably the most unique band of this generation. I know people will argue but true Tool fans know, Maynards lyrics are some of the most thought out, complex lyrics of any band in the history of music. Listening to Tool for the first time shouldn't be labeled as a reaction, because it is much more than that. It is an experience. They are literally their own genre of music/art.
Edit:The fact that you admitted yourself, you forgot to talk. Should tell you how much of an experience it is listening to Tool.
Well said!
Igorrr is definitely the most unique band of this generation haha.
You stole my comment!!!! Lol!!! Very well stated my brother!!!!
I agree - I’m an 80s metal head and I’d love to see Tool live but so expensive ..
PREACH. No one will dare argue with us cause we are right.
This is why Tool fans, like myself, are such diehard fans. Maynard has the ability to reach you on a whole other level. This particular live version is probably the best one to react to. I personally think this is by far, the most powerful live song. Granted, all of their live shows are awe-inspiring. Love this!
This song always brings me to tears, even 30 years later ✨
Listens to Tool once: “I know nothing. I know nothing at all.”
Ahmen
Try TOOL, Pushit (live) Salival. Another great vocal from Maynard James Keenan.
Yeah I second this. It's the perfect song for vocal coaches to hear.
YES!!
The studio version is probably the deepest experience I've ever had with music, and thus will probably always be my favorite Tool song (if it was actually possible to choose a favorite Tool song haha). But yeah even if I consider the studio version better, the Salival version is absolutely magical, I LOVE Maynard's introduction to what sounds like it might be an early version of Eon Blue Apocalypse, sets the tone perfectly.
I third, fourth, and fifth this!
Maynard's vocal on live version of Push It from Salival Album is even better. Do it please :) I recommend also at least check studio version of The Pot, and Lateralus track.
Felt the exact same way when watching this vid as my 1st introduction to Tool. Watching you watch it I get to experience the feeling again like that first time. Thnx4 it!
i cried at 2:20... seeing people understand for the first time what tool is spiraling through them
The record, "Undertow", came out when I was 14, and, it blew me away. I'm about to turn 41, and, it STILL blows me away every time I listen to it.
I'm a few months older and Ænima was my bible for a few years, lol.
I'd found Sober on RTR Countdown chart show in 93. Had it on VHS for a couple years but had no idea who this "Tool" person was.
Bought Ænima then went back to find their previous album and was astounded that it was the same group!
Preach!
Prison Sex...that is all.
“this is what music is supposed to be...”
Miguel Madrid never a truer statement.
Maynard is amazing and she said it perfectly with the comment "this is what u music is suppose to be" a perfect portrayal of music and theatre at its best
In an interview afterward, he said he’d been doing some stuff earlier. He liked the onesie, so he traded his cloths for it. Then while waiting back stage he started freaking out so someone gave him a bag of something..he was scared for his life, it was the largest crowed he had ever seen, and he was scared if he F-d up they would actually kill him. You can hear the fear in his voice. If you listen to his recorded stuff it is a lot smoother, and just as powerful. So he was actually begging for his life on that stage.
Maynard James Keenan is my favorite singer of all time
Kyle S Maynard is my fav person ever;)
Same
Dido!!!
Wow, I love how open you are and how you recognize talent without prejudice.
She projects exactly how i feel about tool!
I am now a fan of yours for your breakdown of Tool. thats the"stuff" I love to see in my peers. hearts and love your way, you are enlightened!!! You are beautiful...Im one of those people he is practically getting the message out for in this song.. Its not just the drugs he is singing about, some people are so powerful and centered they see beyond this system everyone else is trapped in and being set up to rely on, soul trap. this one is for us awake during this with the proper eye :)
Awww Maynard being Maynard. I'm so sorry you didn't discover Tool decades ago but glad you found them now!
Maynard digs deep into himself, his soul, for every word.
That's why the performances from 1990-2002 are so f'n exhilarating. If you were lucky enough to see Tool during these years, which I was lucky enough to do, you witnessed some of the greatest performances in rock history.
Rubaida Allen I saw them 😍 Maynard was covered in blue body paint onstage

And it's even BETTER live. Literally one of the best moments of my life - seeing TOOL live
My new favorite Sober Reaction... But seriously I can't imagine going through my entire life without this song... Great job!
The most precious moment in life, is the first tool song one hears.
I was hooked to this song/video since I first saw it back in 90's... decades later it has never lost it's essence...
Everytime I'm feeling a little down I just search "vocal coach reacts to tool" and follow the rabbit hole until I feel better. Tool is my most favorite ever so it's always fun.
As a long time Tool fan, it's fascinating to see the reaction of a vocal coach to a song that's always gripped me. She gets it.
Seriously, very entertaining
Your facial reactions are the same ones everyone who loves tool makes when they listen 💗
Reaction videos to this song NEVERRRR GET OLD. I check UA-cam every couple months for new ones. My absolute favorite vocalist evvverrr
I love seeing people hear Tool and Maynard in particular for the first time it's magical.
Maynard's pleas of "Why can't we not be sober?" are almost operatic in tone. Compare his vocal tones to say, Pavarotti, in your head.. they are very similar (IMO).
There's a lot of material here, and his range is pretty stunning. It's very thoughtful stuff, so you're in for a treat if you go down this epic path.
Zoning out is part of what happens when listening to Tool....
when you go to the shows everyone is so entranced , its kinda cult like
Just had that experience
@@MyEnime lol that's wild
I have experienced that.. it’s like a steady wave that permeates your head it’s crazy lol can’t wait to see them Tuesday!!!
I zone out every time I listen to Tool. Especially live. Their music has a mesmerizing, hypnotic quality. You don't need mind altering substances to experience Tool. Although at shows I've seen people doing just that.
Always loved the song, never seen/heard this live version. Literally brought tears to my eyes.
Every one of their songs is felt in the soul. Every song, every time. Always.
It's rather funny how few people realized that Maynard had almost crippling Stage Fright. This concert was one of the first times he actually faced the crowd as he sang.
It used to be that he would face away from the audience just to be able to perform live. His voice is a product of his forcing himself to power through and sing for his fans. It gave him an slmost unseen level of body and voice control in later years.
As for a reccomendation, Maynard was also part of the group A Perfect Circle and both versions of their song "The Outsider" show Maynard's vocal range.
This dude makes the hair on my neck stand up. Such a good artist
You described my reaction to seeing them live back in this era. I had never heard them before. Man, they kicked my ass.
TOOL- Singular, Sublime, Surreal
I cannot think of a single current band that stands up to them.
This performance is fascinating. He can be in that hunched position without it affecting his singing.
Fascinating is an excellent word to describe it. I'm shook!😳
I saw him perform with A Perfect Circle... laying on his back while eating popcorn... and it was flawless.

You guys should check out a live recording of him judo-throwing a crazy fan that gets on stage while they're performing Pushit, he gets him in a rear choke position and ends up riding him with the mic cord around his neck, all the while keeping up with the performance! 🤯
I think it's called "the fan incident"
Stefan Radu and there was that another footage where he choked his fan onstage slightly humping😂that was classic too
Listen to A perfect Circle by him too. One of the greatest vocalist ever
And don't forget Puscifer...
hiotsobo - A Perfect Circle you say. I'm listening to Judith like a Lilith under the Maynard crush.
Brandon Hayward yes yes yes yes yes, everyone always forgets Puscifer, like literally mama sed and vagina mine are so fucking amazing

Tool just released a new album on August 30 2019. They are still making incredible music!! My favorite band by far!!!!!!! Nothing else sounds like them. Their own genre.
And tickets for their concert in Detroit sold out in less than a minute. Absolutely phenomenal.

I am going to see TOOL for the 18th time tomorrow and I can’t wait. Maynard is an amazing vocalist and the band is one of the best ever. Glad you enjoyed it.
I saw Tool for the 5th time 2 weeks ago, and I felt like I was seeing them live for the first time. They are so f'n amazing. I remember seeing them 18 years ago during Lateralus. Life changing. There is no rock band that can do what they do. Tool is unique, special and one of a kind. I was in awe once again standing in the arena with thousands of other fans experiencing greatness. It was stunningly beautiful.
I could not agree more! I've seen them 3 times and every show was perfection.
They were never my favorite band but no one can deny they are about the best there is on the entire planet. Other bands may have your favorite music, but nobody can stay on stage with them. Period
congratulations for discovering it! You won't believe this but that's not even the best work

I absolutely love watching people discover music they've never seen before. Its clear TOOL would never've been in your iPod, but now, maybe it will. I think thats cool.
I came to Tool fairly late in their career, in the 00's, and I was just as surprised as you were by Maynard's performance when I first saw it. When I got into Tool and A Perfect Circle (one of Maynard's other bands), Maynard was always singing from the back of the stage in live performances, in the dark, completely unseen by 99% of the audience. So seeing this blast from the past where's *so* out in front was a shock.
I got into Tool in 2001. And until that point I was a huge Deftones, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains fan. Tool opened a whole new world for me. They are still to this day my alltime favorite band. Can't even describe what I've felt the first time I've heard them.
I don't know if I ever came to Tool, but I know I've gotten close.
I only watched to see her fall in love with Maynard's voice and I wasn't disappointed 😄
Took her exactly 2 minutes. And that's only because it's instrumental the first 1:45.

Never. You are so right. I saw them last week live. It felt like I was experiencing Tool for the first time even though I've seen them live since the Lateralus era. They are F'N AWESOME. There is no rock band that can compare to the magnificence that is Tool.
The same was said about Pink Floyd and tool was handed the torch, some band will get it passed to them as well
@@Gorlami90 yea but I've seen Roger Waters and what was left of Pink Floyd too and I will say, there Still isn't anything like Pink Floyd. Maybe the early stuff but Animals and after....there just isn't anything close to Pink Floyd.

You say that you got chills early on, and I was crying already. It doesn't matter that I've heard him sing sing the early 90's (all 3 of his bands) and other die hard Tool fans don't understand why I still cry when I hear him. But you nailed it.. pure raw emotion when he preforms.

Try being there... I rocked front-row through a 12-hour rock festival in 104 degree heat just to get to TOOL. Maynard's lyrics and the way his voice powers through you is mesmerizing.
