Man talk about good engineering and good entrepreneurship. This guy saw a problem and went ahead to build a company that solves it in a profitable way. Hats off!
You could use them to deliver food and first aid, emergency blankets etc. to people stranded on rough terrain or in the wilderness. Lots of possibilities here. So great when I here people are actually doing what they're supposed to instead of all the bad .
That's what we call a "worst case scenario". The fact that I can literally go out and buy a drone for about 300 bucks and fly it around today makes me think you're overreacting. First off, the EPA is virtually nonexistent after George Bush gutted anything decent the gubment does. and second off, why would the FCC have anything to say about something you can already buy and operate? I know you want less government. We all do, but this is not the way to argue it. Argue against the drones we use to kill people with, not the ones we use to save them with.
HOMELESS in the woods just outside a college-town without the need to carry a HEAVY backpack! a drone could bring in food supplies, solar panels, etc...... a 'SOLITARY MONK' could walk for miles, every night!!!!!! a drone could take out the trash! LEAVE-NO-TRACE CAMPING/(homeless)! a SENIOR CITIZEN would be free to HIKE out of the city on weekends! xoxoxoxo
watching "The Iranian Drones That Save Lives", and guess what is among the suggested videos, "Israel's Killer Robots". It's like an inverted fox news website
The funny part is that they gave a fair view and how Israel has done so many good things about the evolution of the drone probably created that too but who knows only 36% of peaceful drones Israel creates is released to the public for private sale from the military.
There r a lot of positive things about Iran u just need to open ur eyes... A lot of negative shit about the US (I assume u r from there, hence ur comment), more negative shit about the US then Iran if u ask me
This man is what every Muslim woman, man and child should at least proportionally become. Once the world sees us not as just businessmen but as scientists, researchers we will be able to make the world a better place. Insha Allah. You have done something wonderful :) I hope there will be many more to come.

Ludek Lancellotti I prefer Islamic because the message and conquest of the prophet Muhammed kicked it off and because many of the cornerstone scholars were ethnically Iranian.
It's nice to see good examples of people being kind and benevolent to eachother , with good ideas, especially when they come from Iran. The Mass Media propagates an picture of Iran to be evil, but it's nice to see that their people are pretty much like you and me. I don't say their Gouvernment isn't dangerous, but like often these days they don't act on what their people think.
When people say a country is evil its because their government is terrible and treats their own people like trash. Do you ever see the media single out people outside of the government?
I have to agree to that partially. When the Media names a state , most people think about the whole state with its people , the soil ,cultural differences etc and of course the Gouvernment. Surely most of those Gouvernments are elected or have another base of "legality" and thus come from the people, but that doesn't necesseraly mean they act in the will of their people. I like that you can distinguish between those seperately, but Mass Media targets on creating a certain picture in my opinion. Also me personally can't check if their Gouvernment treats them poorly. I can only travel and see for myself.
Wrong. We love our government and there is nothing wrong in that. The Iranian government supported my family financially and we wouldn't be anywhere without them. They also supported the veterans who were victims of chemical weapons attack that was done by the US. SO fuck off with your government hating bullshit. iran's govt. is closer to its people than the US.
Joel Cohen the Persians and the Jews have always been allies. It’s the Mullahs and the Zionists that need to go! Let us unite and kick them both back to hell.
MarioDragon Commercial planes don't fly below 400 meters except during take off and landing. No plane has ever crashed because of a drone or other model aircraft.
If every Muslim was like this, the world would be a better place. I don't mind this version of Islam that promotes saving of human life regardless of their religious affiliation.
People who think that Islam is violent are stereotyping Muslims. Islam is a peaceful religion, but extremists put a bad image on it. Such a bad image that i now have to tell the NSA this: I'm a Christian!
Yīshèng Li That's true. A friend of mine said that referring to all Muslims as terrorists is like referring to all Christians as KKK members. There are always going to be extremists, and you usually never hear about the good things people do. Governments like to portray certain peoples or nations as evil, just to keep citizens on their side when international politics come into play; and news agencies make money from people watching their news shows, and instilling fear in them gets them to keep watching, because many narrow minded people are looking for answers when something bad happens. Blowing things out of proportion is a good strategy for that.
Excellent work. Seems like a simple idea that would actually work well under normal conditions. More extreme weather conditions may call for something a little more advanced but its a great start in the right direction.
Juan Sierra U would still need to programme it in a way, so it stays in zones of highest danger factor, and compared to human control, that would be a very hard process that involves lots of observations and experimenting to optimize efficiency.
Why not just put ourselves in a blender everytime you need an operation :)))) Don't we still need doctor's!!! That my friend is I'm sorry to say pure laziness, why does everyone now want to go completely inhuman towards life why not let technology assist you 30-40% and you my fellow human being do the humane part, ie: actually noticing a disaster/ situation and act!!!
Exactly, if it wasn't so difficult or dare I say, impossible at the moment it would have been done by now. There is an interesting and very detailed look into why AI is exaggerated and not moving forward as fast as people would expect. Part 1 of 7 Androids & Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Myth - PT1
There was a miniseries TV show called "The Prisoner". It was about a luxurious resort prison with giant balloon drones that would capture anyone trying to escape. It was made back in the 60's. The drones in Iran could patrol the Caspian or the Zagros and stop people from escaping.
In response to cornholio223... If the drones were accompanied with wristbands for swimmers the swimmer could activate the drone by calling it when they encounter difficulties.
This would be awesome for man overboard situations. It could deploy automatically, and home in on a bracelet worn by sailors, cruise customers, or even fishermen. Sincerely, your friends at MIT.
Nice. If you give it vertical wings it can transition to winged flight and be dramatically faster and go further. It might be easier with only 2 larger rotors.
THESE GUYS STOLE MY IDEA! I have an idea, then anywhere from a few months to a few years later, I end up hearing about it online. I need to start applying for patents!
Would it be more effective with ducted fan rotors rather than all of those open ones? Also after dropping the life preservers how does it maintain stability in adverse weather? The idea seems fantastic for fair weather operations but in bad weather or even mild weather it looks like the thing would be uncontrollable (which is why I mention ducted fans cause those might help)
Collin lingaitis - the control boards for drones are self stabilizing. They are programmed to return to stable hover they have pitche-yaw-and roll sensors.
crazyking50 but to what degree can those pitch-yaw-roll sensors correct to? I feel like that the design here, even with the computers would be unusable in say a mild windstorm at sea. (I'm not bashing the design, more like constructive criticism/I'm curious about the design)
Here's a really good idea, please credit me when you use it. Instead of deploying full life rings, deploy inflatable life rings on an hydrostatic realise system. the life rings inflate after they hit the water, which can be packed much smaller and are not carried away in wind as easily. This would dramatically reduce the size of the life rings, and bulk of the drone. Plus add the ability to increase the carrying capacity of the drones.
With some major problems, drones are great in emergency situations and not only that but it can also deliver and can be used as a defensive equipment with modifications or delivering payload of bombs. If they can improve the handling of drones with strong winds, dusty weather and durability it would be functional. and also not just drones. But time will pass and it will have faults. I hope that the people who are working on this should not stop and take criticism as a problem to improve on making better and more functional ways of helping.
What if you left the life ring attached to the octocopter via some sort of rope, with the right setup you could probably drag a person back to shore. You would need a quick release incase the copter was being pulled down by the person in a state of panic but drop the ring allow them a few moments to attatch themselves then slowly begin to pull. It looks/sound good in my head :p
Funny thing is with his accent is sounds like he is saying "drowns" instead of drones, LOL! It is most funny because he can probably speak in 3-5 languages very well, I can only speak in two, and with much more difficulty than he can. Great way to put a good face on what has become a negatively viewed technology. Bravo!
Interesting idea but the implementation is really questionable. Multirotors are profoundly inefficient in terms of distance possible, speed, power consumption, etc. Their only advantage is ease of building and control, so I wish they'd addressed that (maybe they just didn't have the funding to purchase the more complex mechanical linkages present in a normal helicopter?). It'd also be nice if they talked about the other disadvantages, ie sure the drone can drop a floatation device but it definitely isn't diving down to grab someone who goes under. I guess that partially falls to the reporter who didn't ask any hard questions at all, though it's still nice to see people trying to use technology for good
+Sooncheng Lew there's no magic way to increase distance without changing weight, they can fly much farther than commercially available systems sure but not without massively increasing the size and weight, or switching from electricity to gas. good work iran, some day we can can join development with malaysia skill technology.

It needs missiles for sharks, or at least lasers. ;) Great job though seriously, very good to see this type of research.
I guess the title would appear more meaningful had this story originated from a country that actually cares for human lives.
Summary: Iranians using drones to reduce the amount of drown victims. Many people drown in the Caspian sea, compared to other areas of the world.
Imagine making this drone fully automated and adding a thermal camera module
And hellfire missiles! Oh wait...

I guess that partially falls to the reporter who didn't ask any hard questions at all, though it's still nice to see people trying to use technology for good
drone can be modify to have a very long flight time and a very long flying distance
and there are already waterprof drone in the market
+Sooncheng Lew there's no magic way to increase distance without changing weight, they can fly much farther than commercially available systems sure but not without massively increasing the size and weight, or switching from electricity to gas. Energy density limits your system's mass/power ratio and batteries only get so good. Multi-rotors are heavily inefficient and this means /for the same size/ you cannot get as much distance or travel time. Being waterproof also does not mean you can swim down and rescue someone.
+Elspin there's ntg we can talk about , technology will change the future
+Sooncheng Lew Of course it's going to change the future but that doesn't mean we can't be critical of the way people try and use it.
Brilliant....
Very good idea
Good project thou. Chinese will make the copy soon :)
this is a great idea but i would think a radio controlled torpedo would be faster and better. set up a high camera to watch swimmers if you notice a problem the fish would lock to the target via wireless link to the camera and propel to the person and have a loop strap so it can tow the person back to shore if you make it height droppable you could highlight mutiple targets from a helicopter then drop it to retrieve them.
Could put in a speaker to give instructions. although you probably already thought of that.
