“Actraiser” surprised the hell out of me. Even with as much of a cult following as it has, I figured it would stay locked in the vault forever. I wasn’t even sure who owned it. Enix published it back in the day, but the company that developed it is long gone. I didn’t know if Square-Enix owned it, if it had ended up with some holding company, fallen into the public domain, or what.
My hope is that if they're bringing back one Quintet game, they might be open to bringing back others. Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma... bunch of games in their history that I'd like to see brought back to availability.
I’m surprised no one’s brought up that the card game is a Yoko Taro project. He’s a pretty prolific figure in gaming sphere from like the Nier series and stuff. I’m super interested in what that guy would do with a tabletop style RPG.
He shouldn't be. Everything he makes is just babies first nihilism + Yokos creepy fetishes. I cant wait until we fight a pregnant giantess who tries to eat us.
3:15 the reason that card game looks so interesting is because it’s going to be directed and written by yoko taro, the man behind the nier games and one of the best writers in the business. This card game is definitely gonna be more than it seems.
as for the MH Expansion: this is something Capcom has done with the series since literally the first game: release the base game first with low and high rank, then several months later release an upgraded version of the game with G/Master Rank as well as general improvements and changes, but since World it seems the upgrade will come as a separate expansion rather than selling the whole game again which is great, also it's confirmed to also come to PC which is great
Kirby and the Forgotten Land does look really cool...but you REALLY need to play Kirby Planet Robobot. Cause Star Allies really wasn't the best demonstration of what Kirby was capable of in 2D. And also has a really cool twist on the typical setting.
As much as I love Crystal Shards, a 3D Kirby game is long overdue. Kirby games have felt so samey for sooo long and I've been getting sick of it. Especially with how uninspired Star Allies was. I'm looking forward to this more than anything else in the direct.
When it leaked, I was like alright if this is a 2d game I'm not buying but if it's a 3d game I'll get it. Boom that's how you get me actually interested in Kirby, not the same copy paste 2d games.
Yeah, in general for the past couple years Kirby games have relied on there settings and mechanics to keep things fresh, planet Robobot is a good example of this. But now we're getting a massive shake up and I can't wait
I personally fell this about kirby: Return to dream land: the return of kirby, makes sense why is a little generic. Triple deluxe: good but it feels too similar. Planet robobot: love the robot theming and the game play gimmicks and tweeks but I hope they change thing up. Star alais: good but Jesus just evolve already Forgotten land:AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Not to mention the way overused Dreamland levels. It seemed like they kept using the same NES levels just with enhanced graphics and called it a "new" game! Way back when Kirby Fighters 2 was released, people looked in the game's code and found a "3D Kirby" file. I'm very excited for that Actraiser remake. Not necessarily because of the game itself, but because it's a Quintet game. Quintet were the developers who also made Terranigma and Illusion of Gaia on the SNES, two of my favorite games ever. In other words, there is at least a very slim chance that those games could also see remakes at some point in the future, which so far seemed really unlikely, since I always had the impression that Quintet games were just stuck in some kind of nasty copyright limbo.
Hopefully this leads to Square Enix dusting off more of their extensive catalog of SNES games. Hell, Chrono Trigger is one of the most beloved games on the SNES, but they haven't really done anything noteworthy with it for a damn long time.
@@Sugarman96 Absolutely! I'm still baffled that some kind of Chrono Trigger revival hasn't happened already. I can only assume this to mean they're planning something big with it. I mean, if they thought a proper Trials of Mana remake was worth making, and if they thought an Actraiser remake was worth making, I really don't see how a Chrono Trigger remake wouldn't be worth it for them. It's argueably a much bigger deal than the two aforementioned games.
I'm pretty psyched about the Actraiser rerelease. I didn't even know it was coming, but for it to drop literally at the time of the direct is pretty sick.
@A B I personally feel that the service is already a bit expensive for the quality it provides and the new content personally doesn't feel worth the money. If you however feel like it's worth it and a reasonable deal then I understand, value is a subjective thing.
If it's just five or ten extra dollars per years like Arlo says then it's definitely worth it. A single N64 game on Wii/Wii U virtual console was worth ten dollars so paying that for the whole catalog is better.
What I wish for is that these special controllers: GCN, N64, Sega, works with other games. I understand that games that needs a lot of buttons can't make it work with some of these. But say Mario Party, that should work. It's a good way to have extra controllers.
I can't believe that, between a brand new Kirby experience and the freaking Mario Movie, the Mario Movie news is what's taking up 86% of my brain capacity
I got my thing I’ve been wishing for since I got a Switch. Ocarina of Time is here and Majora’s Mask is on the way. It’s not a 35th anniversary anything, but we got it. And more N64 games to come! So pumped.
In case you were wondering, Voice of Cards is created by Yoko Taro, famous for being the director of the Nier and Drakengard series. That's why everyone is paying attention to it.
Every game Yoko Taro touches ends up becoming an absolute gem, so voice of cards is definitely something I'm excited for. Only a month away too! Can't wait
For the Switch N64 controller, I can see this as being almost a necessity for Sin & Punishment. The version of that game that was on the Wii & Wiiu eShop made is very clear that it was built with the N64 controller in mind (analog stick for aiming, either c-buttons or d-pad for moving, double tapping for dodging etc). With a modern controller, the controls turn out really weird. Like, you can either do left analog stick for aiming, right analog stick for moving (the opposite of our modern standards) OR left analog stick for aiming, d-pad for moving (meaning both of your hands are on 1 side of the controller). Lacking the ability to rebind the analog sticks, the game is brainwreckingly annoying to try and play. So having an actual N64 controller to play it with is gonna make it at least playable.
Fair point. Emulation introduced me to the game, and later I picked up its sequel on the wii. But an n64 controller for once I would prefer for the first game.
The game that excites me the most is Disney Magical World 2: Enchanted Edition. I have played the 3DS version a lot and I was hoping that the series would come to the Switch. Also kinda excited for the Animal Crossing and the Super Smash Bros Ultimate Directs.
I never played that one, but I was really surprised that it happened. Also kind of hoping they'll start a trend of bringing 3DS conversions of other games, if only so that we'll have them available for a more modern format.
Nintendo doesn't show story in there trailer and people complain the trailer doesn't mean much... Nintendo shows 1 minute total of Story and people complain the whole game is spoiled.
@WilltheLemon They are definitely doing it because Metroid isn't as big, especially in Japan. Metroid has historically sold poorly in that region. As much as some old fans want Nintendo to show basically nothing of a game, you can't advertise what is essentially a new franchise to most people that way. I'm just curious to see how many people will go back to these trailers after they play the game and decide if they actually did spoil a bunch or they where just over thinking it because they saw 2 things they would consider somewhat big spoilers.
Voice of Cards is by Yoko Taro, director of the Nier series - a series I absolutely ADORE - and apparently they're connected. I'm really excited to try it!

serious "oh boy 3AM" energy
I'm happy to see someone else talking about Voice of Cards - I think it looks really cool. I love card games, but it's so hard to organise setting them up and getting people round, so I basically never play them. Having a video game card game that you can play on your own without any setup sounds great! Super excited for it.
Theres like 5 of those on the Switch though
And more on mobile
@@lillith7257 Yeah, but mobile card games are...not great. Maybe I'm missing something, but they tend to be heavily monetised and not always fun. Admittedly I don't play a lot of games on mobile, so I might just not have found the good ones, but playing something that isn't trying to get me to spend money every 5 seconds seems like fun!
Hands of faith has the card idea pretty fun too and there’s a sequel I haven’t played yet.
@@haleyconley8063 Really? I'll have to keep an eye out for it - thanks for the suggestion!
tbh, i feel like the card tiling in the overworld map andall will feel painfully boring.
Arlo has died to Chris Pratt. this is canon in the Arlo lore.
I shouted I was so surprised. My boss walks in and asks if I won the lottery.
My hope is that if they're bringing back one Quintet game, they might be open to bringing back others. Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma... bunch of games in their history that I'd like to see brought back to availability.
@@goranisacson2502 Yessssss! Ah man go see my reaction I was so pumped for that very reason!

Geno: why I get no love?
There's a UA-camr who always talks about fuzzies all the time and he probably is disappointed they didn't add that into the game.
Square's to blame for that, they own majority rights to the character and won't do anything with him.
Geno it at least makes story sense why he isn't there. Mallow though...
Can we talk about Charlie being Luigi. I need an always sunny mario crossover
I NEED Lugi to ask about the spaghetti policy in the movie

as for the MH Expansion: this is something Capcom has done with the series since literally the first game: release the base game first with low and high rank, then several months later release an upgraded version of the game with G/Master Rank as well as general improvements and changes, but since World it seems the upgrade will come as a separate expansion rather than selling the whole game again which is great, also it's confirmed to also come to PC which is great
Who would've thought N64 games would come to Switch online. I'm very excited to finally be able to play the OG Paper Mario.
only game that would hype me more and still a chance is Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber but the start line up is great.
"Who's gonna be booting up the game excited to be Koopa?"
Me. I'm that one guy.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land does look really cool...but you REALLY need to play Kirby Planet Robobot. Cause Star Allies really wasn't the best demonstration of what Kirby was capable of in 2D. And also has a really cool twist on the typical setting.

As a Splatoon fan who enjoys watching those frame-by-frame, I feel seen
Just so you know Arlo: Monster Hunter expansions are usually the bee’s knees. Prepare for a good time.
For real
I don't think that kirby star alais is bad but it just blends in with return to dream land and triple deluxe
I personally fell this about kirby:
Return to dream land: the return of kirby, makes sense why is a little generic.
Triple deluxe: good but it feels too similar.
Planet robobot: love the robot theming and the game play gimmicks and tweeks but I hope they change thing up.
Star alais: good but Jesus just evolve already
Forgotten land:AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Not to mention the way overused Dreamland levels. It seemed like they kept using the same NES levels just with enhanced graphics and called it a "new" game!
You know the insult Sony fanbois say about Mario games? It was definitely true for Kirby, so I'm really glad this new Kirby game is set in a world that isn't Dreamland.
the name triangle strategy sounds like something the pentagon would come up with
I like that Triangle Strategy kept it's code name just like Octopath Traveler did. I hope the studio keeps it up it's hilarious
Maybe next time it'll be called "Quad Lore" to keep with the theme.
I liked it with octopath but the joke is long dead now so nahhh
A Direct that was just brimming with great stuff
I can't wait to play Super Kirby Odyssey!
Never thought I would exist in the timeline in which I hear a blue monster tell his friend over the phone that Fred Armisen is Cranky Kong.
Last time I was here this early, I thought Arlo was a fusion dance of Elmo and the Cookie Monster trying to convince me Nintendo isn't just for kids.
It is for everyone.
I thought he was some Grover look alike
I do love an Arlo video at 1:40 in the morning. 👌
I’m gonna be that one guy most hyped for triangle strategy out of everything shown. That demo was so good and I LOVED octopath. It’s honestly top five games of all time for me.
Octopath Traveler is such an underrated gem. Absolutely loved the characters and storytelling in that game along with the gorgeous art and music.
octopath is genuinely one of my favorite games. i find ranking things like this impossible but i do love it immensely. it has one of the most satisfying stories ive ever played coupled with a goat tier ost and and phenomenal leveling systems.
its top shelf.
Can’t wait to play all of those N64 titles. Mario movie wise; the only voice actor I’m not sold on for the role is Pratt and Mario. I can imagine everyone else working out quite well
PRATTIS A GREAT CHOICE HE DID GOOD ON LEGO MOVIE
I'm going to watch the movie for Seth Rogan DK alone.
@David Loisel Yeah :\ who knows though, sony pictures gave us the Emoji Movie and then Into the Spiderverse immediately after. Sometimes lame studios make cool stuff if they’ve got creative ambition going into it.
@David Loisel Charlie Day plays Green Man and Seth Rogen also has has a background in Voice Acting.
I really hope they do GameCube someday. Just because I really wanna play the first Luigi's mansion
This Direct was good, but the Mario movie casting put a real fucking weird spin on the whole thing...
Put it this way, if it’s good we’ll meme it, if it’s bad we’ll meme it anyway. It’s a win/win
The previous Direct gave me so much I didn't even dream was possible, and this one delivered on revealing everything left that's been left a mystery like Bayo 3 and the next Kirby. All that's left is Smash and I feel at ease knowing when it'll come. Literally all I'd like to know about Zelda before it drops is what the heck it's called. I've never felt more satisfied as a Nintendo fan, literally all that's left is seeing Prime 4, but all hype for that is on snooze until after Dread.
personally i'm still waiting to see what's coming up for Fire Emblem & the next big Mario game but i won't deny so much great stuff has been no cues in such a short span of time,
So many games I love were in it, usually i'm lucky if there's 1 or 2, can't remember the last time one was half as appealing
What are you most excited for?

Brand-spankin-new 3D Kirby game, N64 _and_ Genesis games coming to NSO (including Banjo-Kazooie!!), a release date for Disco Elysium, GBA Castlevania collection dropping _tonight,_ a definitive countdown to the final character in the ultimate Smash game, _AND_ our first real look at Bayonetta 3...yeah, look, this was basically an E3-level Direct for me. So much that got me hyped and happy to be a Nintendo fan again.
This Direct had-
The Memes: Mario Cast
The Dreams: 3D Kirby
The Schemes: Online Expansion Pack
The Screams: Bayo 3 Lives
This is what an A-tier Direct looks like.
I love the name Triangle Strategy. It's so terrible, I love it. Thank you Square Enix for being terrible at naming things.
Triangle Strategy isn't any worse of a name than Octopath Traveler. It's basically the same kind of name, too. Octo/Tri, path/angle, Traveler/Strategy. Feels like some weird branding thing they want to catch on. The next one will be a platformer with five playable characters: Pentaman Jumper.
It's a little worse. Octopath is at least an oddball fake word that stands out, but both "triangle" and "strategy" are some mundane technical words.
@@Yohoat I can agree with that. Though I actually don't mind either. They're weird, sure, but a name's job is just to be memorable and it succeeds in that at least!
"Extra 5 bucks a year"
Oh boy, just waiting for Arlo's video on the price announcement.
About the new Kirby getting leaked, it's actually been leaked and hinted at for about a year now. Way back when Kirby Fighters 2 was released, people looked in the game's code and found a "3D Kirby" file. It's kept getting leaked ever since, in fact quite recently we heard leaks about how the guys making it were going "yep, this is a bold new step that we're going to take this time, something completely different."
When I saw Mickey with an invitation my heart stopped. I THOUGHT HE WAS COMING TO SMASH.
I am absolutely HYPED for Kirby 3D! After the long wait since the mild let down of All Stars, THIS is the breath of fresh air Kirby needed! It looks AMAZING, thank goodness I have Metroid to hold me over until spring!
"If Sakurais doing this its gotta be big!!"
This exact thing happened with Byleth
14:00 Side note, the delivery of "I thought that was way more likely because it was more disappointing and I'm a pessimist!" cracked me up when I heard it
As a Silksong fan, I feel so happy for the Bayonetta fans who finally got the information they wanted.
Yeah especially considering they have had to wait twice as long as we have
I'm very excited for that Actraiser remake.
Giga-Longshot, but hoping for a Terranigma remake!

Nintendo making the N64 and Genesis stuff cost yet more money is such an awful but expected move.
@A B I personally feel that the service is already a bit expensive for the quality it provides and the new content personally doesn't feel worth the money. If you however feel like it's worth it and a reasonable deal then I understand, value is a subjective thing.
@A B to me let's just say it seems a bit greedy, although maybe I'm unjustified in thinking that.
If it's just five or ten extra dollars per years like Arlo says then it's definitely worth it. A single N64 game on Wii/Wii U virtual console was worth ten dollars so paying that for the whole catalog is better.

I'm so hyped for 3D Kirby, it's insane. Can't wait!
What I wish for is that these special controllers: GCN, N64, Sega, works with other games. I understand that games that needs a lot of buttons can't make it work with some of these. But say Mario Party, that should work. It's a good way to have extra controllers.

I burst out laughing at the black and white picture of chris pratt with the caption "Mario" when I was watching the direct
I’m glad I avoided internet news because I was pleasantly hyped by the Kirby reveal
Thankfully you can remap the Switch controller buttons.
You missed Actraiser! That was the most exciting part for me, even though the whole direct was fantastic.
