“The world stood still in 1969 when it came out!” Hilarious and yet so true. I don’t play drums, as many in these comments don’t, but have always loved GTBT and the drumming in it. Intro is such an incredible hook.
@@bonzoleum what do people call you I don’t know your name or is Bonzo your nickname name it would suit you. I suck at the drums 66 started only late forties but only played a few years just goofing around ow trying to really learn you help Tons. Thanks your funny as hell too
Hey Terry! I've been listening to this song for about 35 years now...it's still one of my favorites. The intro. The drums. It's genius. Like everything Zep did. I could never get sick of this tune. Love your lessons. You always make me smile, and laugh--not AT you, with you! ;)
Thank you man. I am 50 now and this song, those triplets, have dogged me for at least 30 years. Now I have a much better clue as to what Bonham was doing.
Great instructional video. You cover all the important parts very well. I've always found this to be one of the most difficult Zep songs for two reasons. Number 1 - The triplets between the right hand and the bass drum. I was ( and still am ) pretty good with this AS LONG AS I am keeping the hi hat closed. When I play the hi hat with my left foot the bass drum goes out the window. Number 2 - The cross over from the rack tom to the floor tom. I have my cow bell in the place as you do and I have a very hard time crossing my left hand over my right hand to get to the floor tom. Anyhow, great job.
Most entertaining drum teacher on the net!!!! I've been pro for 44 years ( never had a day job, only drums) I wish I had a teacher like Terry! !!! Talks like a real person! !! One of us! !! The kind of guy you'd like to get a beer with after the lesson! !!! Tommy Seesselberg aka DeBlurr. The Dead Elvi, Denny Laine, Terry Sylvester (The Hollies),Badfinger, The Bay City Rollers,Cherrie Curry, and many more! !!!!!
i swear to god you're the best thing on the internet, possibly one of the best things to happen to zep! my god you should have your own tv show, even just talking :) x
Dude, your great! Someday I will buy my drumset back gain before I die. You probably understand what it is like to be a drummer,(since 8 years old, then have to sell everything or be homeless,)but I feel dead inside. It is a struggle every day to wake up, knowing full well, I wont be able to drum yet again that day. Music stores around here wont even allow me to rent time just to play drums in their practice room or studio. You are very good. Please dont take each day you wake as a drummer, and able to play, for granted. You are very lucky. I dont even want to wake up/get up since I cant play. I cant explain it to anyone else, but I believe you understand what I'm saying. My fav drummers, are in no particular order John Bonham Steve Gadd, Keith Moon Earl Palmer Clem Burke Doug Clifford (not fancy,or even technical, but I like him) There r others but cant think straight right now
I am just discovering these tutorials of yous and i love them. as a drummer wuth a music ed degree, i appreciate your delivery and your way of breaking stuff down
Terry you are the man. You have taught me so many patterns and fills. I’m a guitar player but you have made me a better drummer. I think playing the bass along with the guitar has helped my timing tremendously.
Your very welcome my friend. Could you do me a favor and do a drum cover of don’t you forget about me by simple minds. Let me know what you think of that idea.
I'm getting back to drumming after many years of not playing. I have to say..you must be a professional drummer/teacher and perhaps a comedian. You make learning really fun. Have you ever thought of producing a video series? You have a nack for making very difficult drum patterns easy. All I can say, is I appreciate what you do and I'm using your videos in the hopes of building my chops..esp. when trying to play led-zep songs..which are some of the most challenging. Keep up the great work and know that you are appreciated beyond words. All the best, Joe Greenfield, Danbury,CT
This is a worthy study of Bonham's work. My brother and I shared the Vinyl through the 60s & 70s. We kept it close during 'duck & cover drills', so if the world was going to end, it would be with us on the trip to heaven. Needless to say, Good Times Bad Times is the first tune on my 'Tracks CD' that I have in my car.
This is great! And the guy is funny! He sounds exactly like me trying to talk about this stuff ... AND trying to figure it out. Learning how to do the triplets on the kick drum in this song opened up a whole new world of fills and beats for me. Thanks for posting this Dan.
Wow, thanks. It was spooky, I had not had my tubs with me out West, I was working out there for three years and when I came back my playing was shite. Especially my kick drum foot as I found out the first time I tried to play this song. I plan to try your practice methods and the Bonham turn around pronto. Thanks again!
Well don't I feel like a geezer now, only seeing this a hundred years after inception. But it stands the test of time! Great vid, by Hunter Thompson reincarnated as Bonzo Drummer. Total cheers...
Thanks bro for the John Bonham drum instructions. I am a half @ss guitar player but I am a big fan of LED Zeppelin. The funny bits you add onto your video keeps me interested as well.
I got asked to gig with a band that's opening with this song with only 2 weeks to learn their set, so this video was of immeasurable value to me. Thank you very much! Hopefully I won't be looked down upon for having to use a double pedal for the "triplets"...
Bonzo I love watching your videos.your so funny, but very knowledgable .when i need a lift from my pain(Occipital Neuralgia) I watch your videos. It really helps me here.It would be nice if one day you make a video of all the stuff in your room there everybody see in the background and i know you have a story about all your drums etc. Thanks for the videos my friend.Steve
I have incurable cervical radiculopathy....causes third degree burns up into my brain stem and down my arms and spine. When I walk or move, I get occipital migraines (pretty much daily). Like you, Terry's videos are a refuge for me. So much laughter. Beautiful I wish I could still play, but I get my drum fill (pun intended) from watching these crazy entertaining vids. Terry is just the best! Feel better! Take care!
Found by accident. Loved it used to play drums. Paraplegic now. But I was totally understanding and even though the feet don't move I was mimicking you and Bonham on the base riffs. Wish UA-cam was around when I was younger. Because it took month's of playing to achive a version of this. Thanks for sharing!
You really give the complexity of the money shot it's due diligence. I've been trying to play this on and off for the last 30 years, and I still haven't quite got it right. That's okay. I'm closer now than I have ever been Thanks to watching this video and doing the exercises. Thank you
Yes, best drum teacher. Don't ever stop teaching the way you do. I have been practicing those Bonham bass drum triplets the last 3 weeks and just yesterday I discovered I can do the slide technique for faster doubles. Now I just have to practice doing them off a beat and having the ability to do the fast slide technique on que. Then I feel I am closer to being the drummer I thought would be....good enough to play in small clubs and pick up chicks (not that i havent done that yet, but a drummer now that can do Bonham triplets and pick up chicks....lol
Thanks for your extra time doing this it was great! Wish you were my drum teacher cause you would be so much fun. You make my bad day turn good. Thanks again
I remember about 10 years ago i asked my drum teacher at the time to teach/explain the patterns in this song. he answered "Well come on now you've picked the most complicated one of them all, besides i can't even play it myself". From that point on i never tried to play it again. But somehow listening and watching you play it Terry is seems less out of reach. It's actually the first time i've ever seen it explained. I can't thank you enough man. :-)
Awesome tutorial Terry been waitin for this one a long time and finally one on the rock and roll end fill! Watching your tutorials as always are entertaining as ever! Great job man thanks!
Dude! You forgot my favorite part! The 16ths on the cowbell every once in a while. If you listen really closely you can hear it, or at least I can. Great video though man, explained a lot for me. Very helpful.
Hi Terry, Thanks for breaking it down. Is always fun to watch you. Is like you have your own show. Anyways, wouldn't it be better to practice the triplet exercise with both feet instead of with your right hand and foot while you're supported with the left. I find it much harder to do it as in the song than with the hi-hat always closed because of balance. I know is a core issue but this is a great exercise for it..
So true! It seems really hard to keep your balance while playing the high hat and the triplets at the same time, without slipping the triplets! Got to practice, more practice, more practice :)
Good Times Bad Times is THE SONG that made me want to try and actually “play the drums” instead of just banging on them. Thanks for this video Terry ✅👍🏼
You are absolutely the most entertaining drum instructor in the world.
Ikr
honestly
Lol teacher of the year. Best explanations I've ever heard.
+Kyler McDonnell Hahahahaha painful.
Why painful lol
“The world stood still in 1969 when it came out!” Hilarious and yet so true. I don’t play drums, as many in these comments don’t, but have always loved GTBT and the drumming in it. Intro is such an incredible hook.
This is hysterical in the most complementary way! What a fab presentation😂

i almost spit my water all over my lap top when you mentioned russia went on their 'dev con 2' when this came out and 'ding dong' too.
Thank you man. I am 50 now and this song, those triplets, have dogged me for at least 30 years. Now I have a much better clue as to what Bonham was doing.

im learning the triplets and just thinking about adding that hat in terrifies me 😭
Excellent! I love this dude! Thanks for posting! Cheers, Jerry
Plenty of cowbell! Christopher walkin would be proud! Very helpful video by the way.

Great video, and I don't even play the drums.
I do and it was good.
ditto
Ronnie & Minh I'm not a drummer but this guy is teaching me. Next time I sit down at a set I'm gonna groove.
This probably isn't the song you want to start out with.
Same!

You're a riot man, love your videos.

Question about the pedal, how tight do you have that thing wound? The beater, what angle from the base do u keep it? Thanks man, great drumming!
Dude! You forgot my favorite part! The 16ths on the cowbell every once in a while. If you listen really closely you can hear it, or at least I can. Great video though man, explained a lot for me. Very helpful.
I know-I'm a rat!! Sorry.. A couple other folks pointed that out. There are a couple other vids out there where the guys show that very clearly.
I had questions about this song only one person to watch love your videos though I haven’t watch them for a couple years
He is terrific easy to follow.
Super, ... thank you !
Good Man, crazy Typ, .... wonderful !!
Hi Terry,
Thanks for breaking it down.
Is always fun to watch you. Is like you have your own show.

Nice. And love the Grand Poobah Hat.
I did't play for thirty years; sat on the stool and tried my chops...OMG I suck!
I think it needs more cowbell.
Jon Campbell everything needs more cowbell. EVERYTHING.
Terry your brilliant.
You sound like a great drummer. I really appreciate your lessons but your humor even more...
You are so sneaky. You have a great teaching method
Herb Tarlek teaching drums - how cool ;-)
