I always find the lack of respect some doctors have for other medical sciences shocking.

This is so true. My ex was doing her medical research as a post-doc at a top university. The arrogance and condescension of the medical doctors towards the PhD researchers was horrible. Not to mention the misogyny she dealt with being a woman in a male-dominated field.

Right. Dr Huberman talks about this in his podcast occasionally. Science, unfortunately, is not free of certain middle school behavior :/

When I realized how often I knew more about my health than my Dr. did I got fascinated with health related technology improvements. My idea of fun is scouring NIH, Mayo Clinic, and reputable medical university websites to better understand what I need to do to fix, or at least improve upon the problems I caused my body in my errant youth.

I’m the same way, I’m severely chronically ill with multiple “rare” medical conditions and doctors have always failed me. I’ve become very passionate about it now

Alot of doctors graduate from med school and fail to keep up. Our system emphasizes grade achievement and testing -- not learning or love of learning. Plus, the practices were largely taken over by hedge funds in the past 30 years -- that's why there are few private practices. The companies set the hours and doctors also can work 20 hours or more! It's shocking and needs to be regulated. Interns at hospitals are allowed to work 3 days with zero sleep. Imagine that. These things feed the lack of keeping up with medical advances by doctors. Doctors in company-owned small practices dont question the process. They too often follow along and are not trained to think of keeping up with the latest medical advances. It's bad

For profit healthcare and a system to churn out workers just well trained enough to not outright kill patients, but no hope of curing them that would cut out some of your best customers. It's the same system like American high school it was implemented to make workers just smart enough to do jobs but not enough to question why they do. To churn out workers with no curiosity and agency, even those who can afford medical school aren't immune to it. Most doctors where I live brag about how long ago they became a doctor, and all I can think is they wouldn't crack open a new DSM edition let alone any new findings in the last twenty years and proceed to brag about it. I'm not comfortable with older doctors especially men for that reason, can't bring family to them or they might even diagnose my mother with hysteria. I prefer nurse practitioners or younger doctors, because they are willing to learn AND listen. All stem fields know innovation is important, why hasn't the medical community gotten the memo?

@@chey7691 I am female and I find even the young female doctors are terrible too. I prefer the old school ones -- the ones you had make house calls but those guys are in the grave now. Nurse practitioners are changing too as a whole. The newer graduates are now like the recent medical doctor grads. It's because of standardized testing system we have. I dropped out of nursing school myself. You have to pass the tests not learn. The schools want to keep their stats looking good they dont really teach. Plus the professors favour children of medical professionals and that's more of the same -- favouring offspring of the system that fails to keep abreast of new science and discoveries

they changed education from functional stuff to wastefu; cu;ture and standards focused on memorization, emotions, as opposed ot leanring by applying a concept to many different problems to learni guess the reason they did this is to priotiize submissiveness from fear of risk in woman, over intellegenc levels and non fear that would make it likley all thoe top half men would risk their wellbeing to cooperate against corruption for thir tribes.

@@kalmmonke5037 you have a stroke writing that or what, and as soon as you bring gender into it I can tell you get sensitive about people having pronouns and perhaps are an Incel on top of it. It sounds like a whole lot of whining and opinion without anything to back it up. I can at least find evidence of the original posters argument in other places, you are using it as an excuse to talk about something that only you think is a problem, you probably use the word "Woke" un-ironically IRL and then wonder why you get no bitches.

@@chey7691 you mightve not realized that natural increased fear of things is not nessesarily abad thing, i couldve described it as having more brain activity at front end of brain of logical thinking, less impulusivity. this is commonly seen in woman for people who actually observe, for example car insurance is cheaper for woman becuz they probably wont risk even reasonable risk(which in some situations in life, is nessary to win). why ? natural selection. consider: woman better immune system than man, probbaly because the system must work for baby in stomach. womans tends to be more empathetic, shes more social, more interested in emotions, etc., men tend to be rather autistic in comparison, strong autism in terms of being a disability, is more common in man... to be not affected by emotions helps logical thinking, but not enough ability to sundertand emotion means youll be bad at manipulating people (manipulation sisnt nessarily bad thing, i manipulate my car to move many times faster than i can, ur probably brainwashed to feel its a bad thing when u heard me say it first, just a you were brianwashed to thinkfacts like the one in my original comment are said out of hate or being fusterated with losing in being intimate with woman. some f them did it tp you because they looking for emotional drama, but the ones at top are leading the algorithim that controls culture through stuff liek the slab of plastic metal glass in ur pocket to weaken because weaker people are easier to maek submissive) womanns phsycal weakness such as skin thiness, tendon and bone , muscle, weakness etc, (maybe due to being so protected as the child bearer, that natural selection didnt enforce strength in woman as did in man, man being the disposable race in terms of risk taking, ie exploraiton, phsycla activity, war etc), emotionl instability during mesntrual period due to hormones drama due to pregnnacy readiness... it makes sense natural selection would enforce bias for genes that help risk avoidance. also cosnider: whos gonna enforce womans will to consent to segsual activity? other men. consider: woman feels bad when man doesnt strick with her, after seggs, "they just use me for seggs", yet he doesnt feel that emotional bonding... and the more men she phsycal intimate with, the less she feels atached to even a very attractive man... these cannot only be explained by not being grateful becau shes felt better men than th eone she can realistically have for love that is strong enough to cause will to sacrifice for the other person wellbeing. but the matter of not appriacting leser things becaue one has felt beter things , also contributes. although man seems comparitivly non empathetic, we also see men do this to many woman yet prioritize few woman in long term, such as wife... it takes multiple times of pshycal intimacy with same woman to have the same emotional atachment, its a matter of phermones off the skin, as argueably other things not understood well.

    I totally agree with you!
I agree that doctors are not obligated to do research to stay current with all the latest medical knowledge for their patients. However, I would think that they would be looking into the latest research for their own benefit (and especially looking at alternate sources of info about Covid during the pandemic), but I have now learned that there are 2 types of doctors (probably based on their personality). One type who basically clings onto their medical school knowledge and training and is close-minded to any new medical knowledge, and another type who is constantly seeking, for the good of themselves and their own family members, what is the best medical and health-related course of action. I think level of humility also is a big factor in the kind of doctor one is, the close-minded ones are also more arrogant and think what they learned is the best and they could not be possibly wrong (and feel threatened by push-back from a patient who DOES do their own research), and the the open-minded ones seek out more knowledge in humility, realizing there is ALWAYS more to learn and are always more medical advances to be made. And all of that being made SO CRYSTAL CLEAR especially through this pandemic, that one category of doctors is FAR superior in terms of effectiveness and knowledge. It is a good filter for finding the best doctors. 17 years' lag time should not be acceptable to anyone!
Another thing that always puzzled be (it makes no logical sense) is this treating of all people with an "M.D." beside their name as equal in terms of medical authority, the basis for the widespread advice of, "Talk to your doctor." NO, not all doctors are made "the same," and you should not just rely on, "talking to your doctor" to make the best medical decision for yourself, since your doctor could be one of the close-minded, uninformed ones.
Thank goodness for the internet and the wide access to information and data and content creators (such as yourself!) that we all can use to make better choices for our own lives! THANK YOU!

the problem with doing our own research, specially when it comes to medical stuff, is that there's so much pseudo-science and crap like that out there, and the general public does not have the skills to parse what's legitimate discovery from "alternative" bs from people that pose as experts but only care about selling you the appearance of a solution. Like, we can learn to vet the sources, who has actual valid authority to speak on x or y complex matters, but a lot of times we just want someone that will tell them what they want to hear
Your videos are dope tho, you cite papers and explain their concepts, you make sure the studies are valid, and as far as I can tell, the sources you use are valid

Lack of time(Mostly this is the reason), lack of need to use the new knowledge, lack of law, to be asked to use the new machines or newer techniques or newer knowledge, disregard towards the newer generation, with a bias of they will never be as good as me (narrow mindsets), and thoughts lingering in the mind, of them taking up their time, lack of personal interest, and lack of personal need to take an interest for someone who is not related (selfishness), lack of proper motivation and or money, lack of proper knowledge or forgotten proper knowledge(usually very true), monotonous nature of work (not suitable for some), disconnect of work from the desired work( can happen sometimes towards later time, very much into the work), lack of proper recognition of their work or disrespect towards them( you know what happens when a doctor is disrespected). Besides, different doctors come from different places too, so there will be cultural differences.

The problem with being okay with more interstitial stages between the origin of some knowledge and you possessing that knowledge is that with more stages comes more potential for foul play.

So are you advocating people to trust UA-camrs on the internet rather than their doctors? There are a lot of nuance in research , there are countless times reaserch has been misinterpreted, proven and disproven over and over again. If your doctors just jump on the train of the latest reaserch, that is actually very negligent. There are reasons why great new discoveries take very long time, it is often extremely confusing with great nuances. Be careful experimenting with your own health.

What a strange comment to use as a "spark" for this video. A comment should have been used in which, unlike the shown comment, the patient was actually correct! This patient was literally taking pills to shorten her life!
