  • How to sand and polish clear coat on a guitar I finally got enough warm days to get 4 coats of clear laquer on the body, headstock, pickguard, back plate, and neck plate.👍 Let it cure for a whole week. Finish sanding with 800-3000 grit, then polished and buffed out to a mirror finish.
It is now ready to be assembled!👍😎

LOVE your work!! Ive only done decal and headstock work, but love what youve done to get that finish. Your custom decal and headstock colours and finish looks absolutely sensational. ❤

micromesh after foam pad means your foam pad isn't soft enough. the typical order is sand, micromesh, polishing compounds with some sort of power buffing, then wax. Deft spray is great stuff. Krylon seems to be less expensive.

Bondo Glazing Putty, not wood filler.

Other than the blemish in the wood that I pointed out, the clear over that silver paint turned out fantastic. I wasn’t even completely done in the video. I kept polishing it until I was satisfied. Under lights it practically looks chrome now.

what clear coat did you use and how long does it need to cure to be touchable?

Jack Kiefer, I use deft brushing laquer. But I use it in my spray gun diluted with laquer thinner. After I get about 6 to 8 coats I let it cure for about a week before I try to wet sand it. Hope that helps ya.

74dart man, Thanks! I finally had a few days in the 60’s that allowed me to spray my laquer on. Got about 4 coats on it. I think it came out pretty good considering the wood was in pretty bad shape.

@@GuitarMan3YT yep! It looks great! It's way too cold to spray here in Pa. I have some projects I want to build. I'll probably have to wait till Spring to spray.👍😎🎸🎶
