from pinks perspective this was an insane game. you take his cap. you break his bonus thats not near either of your caps when just trying to get vision. he gets deleted from everywhere but behind green. you proceed to steal greens cap. pink could not escape you no matter what he did

I appreciate the respect of the non world Dom, it annoys me so much when I've seen others in that position prolong the game by going for the world Dom.
For me I like the world dom because it's satisfying. But when I have a player that I work with that cleanly and effectively it's nice to show respect to the step off by ending the game as quickly as possible
I didn’t even mean to watch this video just came on after another. But ended up watching the whole thing in 2x speed with a few skips. Been a min since I watched the ole Pete man.

I’m in favour of the chilled Pete. While the comments suggest a majority like the loud shouting Pete, I think its a confirmation bias towards the more loud and boisterous personalities, who are more likely to type out comments saying so. End of the day I’ll watch all your videos anyway so just continue being whatever you wanna be, Peteman!

I've been watching freepete fir a few months and I finally downloaded the game last night! I've only played solo games thus far because I'm still slow on the mechanics. The zombie castle, and one vs all maps are so difficult (5 times each and nor even close to winning)
1:17:00 I love doing the typical numbers for fun... either 21 or 69 for the lower caps or to end off larger numbers, and 101, 404, 420 etc for larger ones. Its just very fun, and I appreciate the error message of 404 here! (Basically saying it would be an error to attack your cap)

What do we do when someone cap with a +3 troops next to your +1? Nothing..... Will have to deal with it.
1:03:35 one of the annoying things bots do is instead of deploying troops in a given territory once they put down +3 then +5 then +2 etc and it wastes more time. Not sure why it would be coded that way?

I feel like Camera Animations should be toggable only in local/single player matches. There should be a "no animations" standard for online matches, considering that it slows down players immensely.
In mobile, the main issue is animations and consistent UI, which affects speed in game.
If you try to move too quickly, the game might become unresponsive, or kick you out of the attack interface. If you move too quickly, you still have to consider the button placement in each phase. And last but not least: It's inherently slower selecting things on a bigger screen that you can touch (in PC doesn't matter if your screen is big because you can change pointer speed).
Something that I want to point out: In mobile, if you use a mouse/keyboard, inputs are not consistent compared to the PC version. Something important like pressing enter to attack and continue through phases is not consistent. It forces you to switch to a mouse, which is SLOWER than touching a screen.
At best, I feel they can clean the UI on mobile a little and get rid of some animations that affect gameplay, but it's very hard to change input controls in favor of speed.
I think the attack could potentially be sped up alot if not fixed with a feature that one could just hold down as they tap on a territory to attack with all and move troops there

I use a mouse with a wheel lock so I can scroll through about 2500 troops in 60s

Why did you change the intro?
I don't quite understand the logic of giving up your Dinarides capital. I get killing green and snatching the pocket from red and saving the pink kill, but why lock yourself off from the rest of the board? How would one infinitely trade with a bot? Wouldn't it eventually set and just get larger and larger?
Attacking has advantage against normal territories. Pete would never leave more than 1 troop on a territory for the bot to hit whereas the bot will leave a chunk, this will result in Pete netting troops from trading with it even though it's getting to set. That amount will eventually out pace the generation to be gained by holding the entire rest of the board once it was resolved.
I gave up dinaridies with the expectation that I would still hold Spain. Magenta had botted out I would take one card a turn but the bot might take 3,4,5 cards etc and card lock himself in the pocket again. The bot would still get trades over time but they would be less frequent than mine and as long as I continue to hold greens capital I can repeat this process forever.
Something tells me white could see through this fog. Well played often when he had no vision. Knew to not go for the red kill immediately at the end there as there were unexpectedly large caps still about.. fishy.
I’m curious Pete as to why you didn’t smack the weak white cap early on when you had a chance (your original cap).
I probably would have, but then you are a much better player than me and I have a lot of respect for how you are able to consistently get wins.
My read on this that while white neighbor capped Pete, he was never antagonising him and neither was Pete. Notice that Pete let white hold a +4 early in the game when Pete could have easily broken him. White also never removed Petes exterior, purple did. And never checked the lower cap. White also gave Pete cards when he didn't need to. He could have forced Pete to take cards off magenta eventually card blocking Pete. He must have realised Pete was an experienced player. Pete didn't noob slam his cap turn 1, Pete managed to get another cap and a bonus turn 2, bully red out of the pocket and kill green. By being friendly towards a skilled player, white ensures a top 2 finish depending on who red suicides on which is better than gambling for 1st but risking 4th or 5th

As far as the mobile vs PC debate goes I get around it by avoiding larger maps. It sucks I have no EUROPE ADVANCED PROGRESSIVE CAPITALS! but I was able to grind to master on mobile using random settings on small to medium maps.
Hi Pete I wanted to say on mobile I move very quick as you can just double click on and off to move even faster than a pc player I can out speed masters that are very fast with just clicking with 2 fingers on and off the blitz button
This game is very interesting in the first half hour for sure. We'll see from there.

53 minutes in, as Red Letter Media would say... "ESCAPE!!! from the planet of boring." I have really enjoyed the discussion, and i'm doing DND stuff in another window, I don't think it's terrible, just that came to mind. I mean i've been watching this whole thing at normal speed up until an hour 5 minutes in, just haven't felt the need to bail yet. This looked like a game you had fun with for sure.

Backgammon is like 10% strategy and 90% dice luck though. The moves you can do a very limited and with 2 players who both know the game, it comes down entirely to dice luck which is super boring. It's a fun game but seeing how Pete plays risk I doubt it could become one of his favorite games
You should try some more "german games", also called "euro games". Settlers just made that kind of games popular, but there are a lot out there that are better. For quite a time, they aren't from germany or europe alone anymore, but there are some good game designers all over the world.
Those games revolutionized the table top market and slowly shifts games from a nerd hobby to a family activity, or an activity even "non-gamers" occasionly enjoy. At least that's true for the US, in germany playing table top games isn't seen as nerdy, that's the reason why germany kinda is the mecca of table top games.
I used to listen to Mark Rosewater's podcast (lead designer for Magic The Gathering) and he explained that in Germany families will play games together much like Americans will watch TV
Hey pete just found out the other day an analytic solution exists for every battle. Did you know this?
He posted the solution to the balance blitz bug in the risk discord.
What is an analytic solution?
It means an equation, and its closed form (which means you can write the whole thing down). So basically SMG could just type this one equation into thier code and boom dice roles regardless the size and BB are perfectly accruate. If you ever talk to the devs tell them jack6 has the solution to the BB problem coded and ready to go if they want it.

Ha this is true.
It's a rare case. The argument for Pink botting out here is that I can trust a bot behind me to play predictably, let me farm it for cards. That bot might even have lived to get second if I lost. But what pink did, cost me time, even slightly antagonizing me, and most importantly forcing me to consider that there is some amount of risk allowing them to continue to live behind me caused me to make the decision to kill them when I did, giving them a lower placement.

Regarding the animations you are approaching it from only a competitive perspective. The animations are there for the fun of it. So by design it makes the game more attractive to new players. A new player doesn't log in and immediately think "oh crap these animations are slowing down my onslaught" - I think you are missing the target with your comments. Regarding competitive play, specifically at a high level - yes the animations are absolutely stupid.
