Robocop: Cool special effects, cool satire, cool (and super scary) robot (ed 209).
Robocop 2: Cool special effects, cool ( and even more scarier) robot (Kain). But bad, over the top plot.
Robocop 3: Bad special effects, terrible robot (Otomo, its not even an animatronic or stop motion doll, just a regular asian guy), terrible plot, production practically screams "low budget!". And worst thing, no Peter Weller ( and they kill Nancy Allen!).
Robocop (2013): Cool but generic special effects, generic CGI robot (ed 209), bad pace, ugly Robocop armor (the black one, the classic grey rocks, but appears just for a little time). It's ok for the new audiences, but unbearable for old time fans.

I completely disagree with you and agree with Mark. When I left the theater after seeing the second, I left unhappy. I felt even back then at about the age of 10 that they had some great concepts but could not pull it out and destroying everything that was accomplished in the original. I also did not enjoy the scene that the writers later did not do anything about later, and that was the whole thing with his ex-wife and staring out a window watching her. Murphy, not Robocop was satisfied and ready to move on with his life. The second does not have that feel, at all. It feels like all the character building from the first movie was completely destroyed and they acted like it never happened. It feels like they did not enjoy the story of the fist and left some of those elements in the second and the problem is that it did not make any sense to anyone. It is again a let down and we are left with a completely watered down movie from the original. Many elements that were left open from the original were never completed in the series and were never mentioned again. And the man that owned OCP turned into something he was not and that was an asshole. Remember, he was the redeeming factor of the film that put common sense back into that situation by firing Dick and allowing Murphy (Not Robocop) to kill Dick. Without that action/ decision that ending would not have happened and there would have been a different continuation. Everything rested on that termination of employment. Showing that the owner of OCP is not a bad guy. So, the other movies are a sham.

Robocop was all about the duality of Robocop/Alex Murphy. How he maintained his sanity being removed from life essentially but still in the world with all these memories.
As the sequels moved forward they strayed away from this duality which was the key central point of the story. We should have seen him dealing with emotions any human would face. Doubt, imposter syndrome, depression, inadequacy, resentment....instead we got....well what we got. Had he dealt with all these things the community coming together and helping him would have made more sense.

Just a fun fact... Murphy's/RoboCop's home address does somewhat exist. Primrose Lane is a street in a northern suburb of Detroit called Southfield. Actually it's not a bad neighborhood. However, the number 548 does not exist, but the street does.
Personally, I'd like to have one of those Taurus LX the DPD drives in the RoboCop movies, and make it look like one. It'd be awesome, and I guess it'd attract curiousity - especially if I'd manage to get a replica of a DPD uniform and armor from the movies. I'd drive the thing dressed up like that on car meets. No doubt!

I thought the kid was bad ass. I think it's plausible, the kid was a genius and a cold blooded bastard. It's not unheard of to have young protégées excelling very well in their craft. Like Mozart, wrote his first sonnet at the age of four. And so on so on. It's possible there could a kid that could do that. Also I don't think the kid actor gets enough credit playing this young villain. I thought he was great, the kid has talent! I thought this kid had some potential to be a really good actor. And considering how most child actors can be obviously terrible, I thought this kid in robo cop2, successfully conveyed a cold, creepy, erie, manipulating monster. I kinda compare him to almost Griffin from berserker, if he wasn't killed off too soon. But hey that's just me. I respectfully disagree with your opinion.

Robocop 2 doesn't forget the arc that happened to the character in the first movie, it flat-out ignores it. The craziest thing about Robocop 2 is that it dumbs down the dramatic substance that's in Robocop, but retains the ultra violence...and yes, has a 12 year old drug lord in it. What demographic was the movie targeting? That's anyone's guess

Something that I really hate about sequels is how, in many cases, they tend to retcon things that were established in the first movie. This is most prevalent with bad sequels, but even the good ones tend to do this sometimes. (Spoilers for Terminator, Highlander and Transformers ahead). For example, the first Terminator told us that you can't really change the past, but then T2's like "No, you can change the past if you want to." Or Transformers, it ends with Bumblebee getting his voice back, but then at the beginning of the next movie it's broken again for no explainable reason (not to mention the fact that Megatron was killed at the end and then the Decepticons easily revive him later). Or Highlander, which ends with Conner winning the Prize, which means that he is the last of the immortals, but then suddenly there are more in the next movie. Then we have RoboCop 2. I could probably go on and on, but you get my point.

You know there is an alternate theory that Murphy never came back to life instead the computer program was designed to do exactly what it did use Murphy's brain and experience and memories as a police officer to become a cop however that also included the life he had showing that nature may actually affect nurture. So it's an interesting theory that may be it really was a robot just experiencing emotion of other people's lives. If you are like me who's had brain injuries and you don't remember your past life you kind of can relate
