My view: if you’re buying designer goods, they should be of high quality. Many brands charge high prices but use low quality materials or sweatshop labor (see Dior). Another pet peeve of mine is the brand name/logo being all over the bag. I’m not a billboard!!!
Designer items are more about giving you something that is unique or straying away from the more regular items. This doesn’t equate to high quality…unless the designer has focused on that aspect to design around. The LV canvas they use in a lot of their bags was created to withstand the elements better than leather. However, today, I’m pretty sure they’ve cheapened on the cotton quality which is why it feels so flimsy now. This is a bother conversation on how the owner of LV is trying to make even more profits off of the many brands they own.
"the brand name/logo being all over the bag" One thing i noticed long ago the 'cheaper' the item, the more branding that is on the item. The most expensive items have practically no branding on them. The items with brand name/logo all over them are for insecure people.
Then it goes for thinking, I could be buying a house or something 🗿 or if I'm a Nepo baby,I would spend like heck care. I don't know if you get what I mean but I hope you do,hahah
@@davidpachecogarciaMany designer brands are a billion dollar companies. Quality for them shouldn’t be an issue, or something to “design around”.
My husband is a huge watch nerd. I'm talking "horology nerd". And his first comment to anyone interested in buying a watch is - "they all do the same thing, and the more expensive ones don't tell the time any better, in fact they often tell the time worse." He forever praises the practicality and affordability of a Timex from Walmart.
Designer jewelry always seems like an extra scam because a local jeweler will make you high quality pieces (from high quality, pure metals, real gem stones, whatever else) for a fraction of the cost.
And they're not even custom to you. None of the clothes or jewelry are. The fact that they are ready made and you can pick them up in the store/online. Besides the champagne and snooty experience from the shop employees, what high value/high quality item are they actually selling you? Whenever my peers or acquaintances says oh but you're purchasing high quality goods...I always looked at them and said, no you're not. You're buying the name and aesthetic lifestyle that it brings.
DO NOT buy jewelry from brands unless that’s what they focused and started their brand in. Most likely they’re just trying to expand their product range and they’re def not experts in that field. Designer is not custom. With designer you are buying into their “world” or their idea of what fashion should be.
I don't disagree with you, but you are paying for the design as well. I only have one designer piece of jewellery, I like the ring and I wear it every day. The other 2 rings I wear daily were custom made for me, my husband chose every detail.
I used to work in high end luxury so I was surrounded my rolex's, diamonds, etc. Whenever I held it in my hand, it was beautiful and I never put too much value in it even tho the item was $10k+. It made me realize how ridiculous materialistic we are because ppl would wait years for a Rolex and I was holding the latest model with no care on the world because I never cared to have one.
She's not only talking about garbage you don't need, but also having cushion to quit the job you hate to move to another. It's a life saver. Keep doing what you're doing @cara 👍
As someone who has done this, I have no regrets. It’s my baby, has been around the world, and will eventually be my kids. It’s something that will last a lifetime and I wear everyday.
@@unrealistic5996my dad has a very classic Omega watch, he is leaving it to my nephew when he dies. It's a simple , classic design and I think that it's beautiful. My mom has a Cartier watch and my daughter will inherit it some day, again small, simple and classic design. I don't have a problem with people buying a high end watch, but you don't need more than one 😂 two at the very most, one on each wrist 😂😂😂😂😂.
I had this sad experience where I met a wealthy guy, and he was basically handed everything to him and given a trust fund, but his dad never loved him at all. I saw him struggling to pick between 2 luxury watch brands that are basically worth a large rent payment. He claimed that his dad could afford tons of Ferraris, so he wanted to get him something that would be special. The reality that I saw was that he was getting him an empty gift that would still not win his dad's love, but it's all he knew what to do.
If you want to deinfluence yourself out of the luxury bag market for life, watch Tanner Leatherstein deconstruct luxury bags and show you what they are really made of. Usually a couple of hundred dollars of leather and even less on construction.
Funny enough, selling my entire bank and buying an expensive cosmetic item on RuneScape when I was a middle schooler de-influenced me from status symbols. I bought it, I wore it, but I couldn’t do anything with it. It didn’t make me better at fighting or skilling, which is the whole point of the game. With that lesson learned, I sold it and never bought any overpriced vanity item in-game or irl.
I remember grinding ever day on neopets as a kid to get my korbat a Ghost Paintbrush (I think it was like about 80,000 NP) . I was so proud when I could finally get it! But DAYUM it took a long time. After that, because I wasn't interested in the battle dome, I got a little bored of neopets 😂
Everyone has their own income, budget and money. So it’s understandable that thousands is insane to you and that’s fine and understandable. For me, it’s only insane at the 10,000+ mark.
My Citizen brand watch was over 100$ but I needed it for work. I will NEVER have to replace the battery, it charges itself. It's going strong ten years later. Bored Rich people have always needed to set themselves a part from us "poors" but who's happier? I have no one I need to impress, my needs are met, I don't need 6 figure watches to get a thrill
A few things I'll add as a watch collector who has been into the hobby for most of my life: it's a common misconception that watch collecting is a rich man's hobby. Sure, there are those seven-or-eight-figure watches you’ll see on the wrists of celebrities or members of the Saudi Arabian royal family, but the reality is that 90% of collectors are in it for reasons beyond just brand names or impressing others. To say that watches are purely for flexing is a bit of a near sighted judgement because honestly, in any room you walk into, maybe 1 in 100 people will ever notice your watch. Most other collectors like myself I know are desk jockeys who work 9-5, and we always put a lot of thought into each purchase because these things cost a lot of money! Really, there's different reasons for everyone, but for me, watches are the perfect blend of mechanical engineering and art. It feels like wearing a piece of art and history on my wrist rather than just jewelry. Plus, there's the added bonus that these can be liquidated anytime and anywhere in the world if you need to.
Exactly, I think like everything if you aren’t buying it for yourself and yourself only the purchase is flawed. I always strike up conversations when I spot somebody with an interesting watch and it’s becoming increasingly a thing that they have no clue what they are wearing/go straight in with the price! Just yesterday I was in the pub and pointed out a guys seamaster, mentioned it to him and the first thing he said was how much it cost him.. why does that matter? I cannot fathom spending 6k on an item you have zero interest in.
As a woman into handbags I do feel many of the same things apply. I have to carry my items around well use a beautifully crafted piece made from a heritage brand with a long history in leather production, hand stitching, vegetable dying etc. the average person also can't identify these bags that aren't the logomania ones. Of course not everyone who's into luxury bags cares for the material craftsmanship and history of the brand but I'd assume it's the same for watches no. Some are in it for the flex some for the art
Instant gratification is a HUGE factor, especially if you have impulse control/dopamine issues. It takes constant effort to curb the desire to pick something up because it feels so good to "win" (yes, I've got severe ADHD), but a trick that I've implemented is to add goods to my cart (or saving to a wish lift), or to walk around a shop with whatever it is I'm mulling over purchasing for at least 20 minutes. More often than not, I end up abandoning the item.
These bracelets look like what my 12-yo niece got for her birthday from her best friend. If I spend thousands on jewelry, shouldn't it at least not look like it came from a chewing gum machine?
@vivianthong5656 Van Cleef & Arpels has been known among the people who knows for YEARS. It's an luxury brand that is obscure, but definitely not a new thing as you have implied.
I’m a designer and I love designer items because they offer something you can’t get anywhere else. I appreciate the detailing or use of higher quality materials. With that being said majority of the items that are labeled “designer” or “luxury” do not fall into this category. Especially at most malls you can drive to in the USA. The horror to see the quality and faulty stitching at Gucci or LV pieces and they’re charging several hundreds or thousands for subpar products that frankly have not been innovated in decades!!! ☠️☠️☠️ Robbery !I also do not follow any fashion influencer because they’re peddling mediocrity when it comes to buying products. They don’t criticize these bad business practices or products. Also, I never buy anything to try to impress someone. I’m the one trying to impress myself. Which sadly for my designer sensibilities but great for my wallet is def lacking with so much overpriced trash being put out at so many brands.
When I was in Italy a few years ago, I bought a bag for the fraction of its price (~50€) because it had an easily fixable scratch on the front. This bag is still my absolute favorite one and its been through so much with me, daytrips, vacations, datenights. Hoenstly, I've promised myself that the only place I'll ever buy bags again is Italy, no other bag was ever able to hold up to this one!
THIS IS AWESOME. I HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED SO MANY TIMES. BUT I FINALLY SAW THE LIGHT. I REALLY LIKE AND ENJOY LUXURY GOODS. I AM A CUBAN REFUGEE THAT WORKED HARD AND NOW HAVE A DOCTOR OF PHARMACY DEGREE. I LOVE MY BOUGIE STUFF, BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. NO LONGER TAKEN FOR A FOOL!!!!!
Okay, I do have to admit that I have a tiny crab-shaped wristlet from Kate Spade that my sister got me one year as a present...it is just big enough for some cash, a lip gloss, my car key, my ID, and maybe my debit card. It has polka dots, and I always get at least three delighted "oh, it's a CRAB!" reactions, so I think it's worth whatever she paid 😂 I do love it 🦀
Love the video. Personally, I enjoy luxury goods - so long as it makes sense and doesn’t jeopardize your financial positioning. “Some know the price of everything but the value of nothing.” This applies both ways
Cara, I'm a guy and even I don't understand the watches. Well yeah, status... but aren't there, I dunno, less silly ways to convey it? "Look at me and my very expensive way to tell the time" just makes my eyes roll.
I love watches, and agree that they are an absurd way to try to convey status. They are too small to see except from like 2 ft away, and almost nobody has any idea what they cost.
Yes to the backpacks! 🎒 I work in an office, used a briefcase with shoulder strap for a year and it was very uncomfortable. I got a cotton backpack in a nice print and it’s suiting me very well! Plus can carry the water bottle in the side pouch. I recently started a no buy year so I can pay off my car more quickly and also put more into my retirement portfolio. Those charts showing the growth of money invested now are powerful tools!!
Back in my 20s I saved up for a Louie bag because it was so popular. However I decided not to get it because of how hard I worked. It wasn't worth the money but it definitely wasn't worth all the work I did to earn said money. So I opened up a CD and never regretted my decison

Haha, I have the "The Tote Bag" and must admit I love it. Wasn't a fan when I saw it at first but it's one of my favorite work bags because I wanted a tote that was structured, had a zipper and a strap. That said, bags are my thing so I totally get why most people wouldn't purchase it. I also don't buy things based on trendiness and use my stuff even when they're out of style. I think these things are more of an issue when you buy things exclusively because for trends and not because you actually like them.
WOW, I love love love that you brought up opportunity costs like saving lives and reducing suffering! I hope we can help more people think this way. Thank you!
Oh, finally someone mentioned it. Those mini bags are so silly because the profit margins are way, way higher. I don't understand it. One time, I bought a wallet-I think it was in 2011, though I don't remember for sure. It was made of real leather, but it was brandless. I think I paid $20 for it. I only replaced that wallet because I got bored; I used it for almost seven or eight years, and it was still in pristine condition. It was still amazing. The leather had a pattern similar to Bottega Veneta, but it wasn't a fake-it just had a similar style without any branding. I'm also using for around 4 years a drawstring bag that I paid $7.99 for, and I basically wear it every day. The bag is fine-it's made of thick fabric from Timberland, which I bought at TK Maxx. It's so practical and convenient. I just don't understand how someone can justify spending $2,000 or $3,000 on a small piece of leather. It's insane how powerful marketing can be.
I’m not one for designer brands. I grew up in Orange County, CA (the birth place of The Real Housewives franchise). Because of that, I’m grossed out by conspicuous consumption now. People can do whatever they want, but I’m not going to participate. I would rather have unmarked quality items that will last me rather than a trend that no one will care about in 2 years. For jewelry, I’m refusing to buy costume jewelry and instead looking at all gold/silver plated pieces instead. They’re more expensive, but they’ll actually last.
Tbh, i absolutely love my black tote bag. The black letters on black are not that visible. It is the perfect size, great quality and doesnt cost thausands. Its my fav and most used bag
That dude said the gucci slides "come with a high quality box" lmao. Flip slops are never an investment in yourself. An actual investment is an investment in yourself
Can you make a male-themed deinfluencing video for viral luxury goods? I honestly was one of the guys commenting that this seems like a women issue 🙄 I didnt even consider many of the things you mentioned because I'm not a big spender. Thanks for pointing those out. I would love to see what kind of insanity we men buy with our money.
-Its the same list as the women, but as a gift. -performance cars. -Bigger\heavier\flashier cars than you need for transportation. -Latest tech instead of last year's. -Beer or other alcohol. -Everything above the sweet spot of performance vs cost. In some categories you can get 90% performance for 50% cost in comparison to the top of the line product. (Example: getting a intel 14600 cpu instead of a 14900k)
@@dalyxia ok the CPUs and PC parts in general area actually an awesome example (including PC games): I was replacing some parts of my old pc recently and I was looking at the AMD 5XXX lineup. I tried to decide between the 5700 and the 5800(xd) and used youtube comparisons and benchmarks to make my decision. Ultimately I went for the 5700 because it consumes less power and I don't play AAA games and the minor bump in performance didn't justify (for me at least) the much higher price. meanwhile I have a colleague who buys top of the line cpus because he wants those parts to last at least 3 years which is insane to me. PC parts are hands down a money sink for men. And the justification for those are the newest PC games. Thank god I don't play demanding games 😂
I used to really really reeeeeally want the Bottega Veneta bag. I just like it and I wanted something made with good quality materials. Tbh I still kinda want it, but what made me stop planning to buy it (apart from my bank account) is the fact that I could never imagine a situation where I would be able to use it. I don't live a Bottega Veneta life and I would've just kept this stupidly expensive bag in It's box, in my closet, waiting for that one occasion where I could use it. Nah, I'm better off with my slice-of-lemon bag that cost me less than 20€ and can be worn as both crossbody and pochette 😂
If one wants to invest in luxury jewellery only get at least 22 carat gold. It's value will only increase in future. Here in india people get small gold earrings for daughters since childhood. And try to add more to it through lifetime or get new pieces only in 22 carat gold.
I really appreciate your videos! In theory I understand that I should be financially responsible and stable, but well... It really helps to have it explained by someone else. Also yay for cheesecake size handbags!
The reason why that shape looks familiar on the Van Cleef bracelet is because a lot of luxury brands use it in an effort to be luxuriously different yet similar to others at the same time. Cartier has one similar, and I believe Tory Burch and Tiffany sell something close. Amazon has tons of similarly styled bracelets for a fraction of the price.
I agree with you with one caveat: *sometimes* the designer purse is the best option. Buy well first and you’ll have an item that lasts a lifetime not just because it’s the most hardwearing purse but because it’s excellent quality, completely represents your personal timeless style, and because you absolutely love it.
Nope, because you can go to a good quality talented leatherworker/seamstress/etc and get them to make you a custom bag that is made from whatever materials you want, in whatever colour you want, in whatever "personal timeless style" you want. It will likely be way cheaper and definitely last a lifetime. A custom made product will always be way better then some mass produced designer good.
@@DavidCruickshankI always wonder where do you go to get such an item? I’m seriously asking. I only go to the mall for my purchases. How do I know where to get customized items if it’s not readily known info? Thx
Didn't Dior just get caught selling slave labor sweatshop bags for thousands of dollars when their largest bags cost like 60 bucks to make? Luxury used to mean high quality goods with high durability that you wouldn't have to replace constantly. Now it's just a brand name that you're looking to show off.
You missed the mark a bit with luxury watches because people that buy them allow 5% of their net worth on them. And the rolex you showed had their resale value shown. I can buy a submariner today for 10-12k , wear it daily for 50 years and sell it for the equivalent 7-8k is today. So 5k divided by 18262 is 0,28$ per day. Also I’d ask you to go in remote places where there is no cell no wifi no charger or get lost in the wild and depend on your phone for time.
I'm not a fan of Rolex whatsoever, but saying buying an Apple Watch which will be e-waste in 3 years is better than buying a Rolex that will last you a lifetime and most likely increase in value, is a terrible take.
Let's run the numbers. An entry level Rolex costs $6,400 at minimum. Let's assume you buy a new Apple watch every 5 year, because that's the updates support of the Apple Watch (and you can use it for longer, just because it no longer receives updates, that doesn't mean it stops working). You can buy 16 apple watchs in 80 years, at 400$ each for the price of one single Rolex (the cheapest).
@@Jose04537 The cost of the 16 Apple watches will be a lot higher if you take inflation into account (you think in 20 years it's still $400?), and my main point is that the cost for the environment is monumentally higher
@@Jose04537 now run the numbers again, and include inflation (you're not buying an Apple Watch for $400 in 2035) and the monumental cost for the environment
Watch guy checking in and I just wanna say my take: she’s not wrong. Watches aren’t necessary for life. But to be fair, there are a lot of cheaper options that are just as historical. G Shocks come to mind. Every watch guy loves a G Shock and they can be had for $50 more or less and they are tough as nails. Seiko is another brand that comes to mind. That’s the brand you go with to troll Rolex lovers and remind them of the cheap Japanese brand that nearly sank the wealthy Swiss brands with their cheaper and more accurate watches. If you want a swiss brand for one less zero, go with Tissot. I have a Tissot Le Locle that I got for sub $500 and it’s great. To summarize, all things are great options if you want a watch for cheap but like art, they aren’t necessary for living. You can go without them
I do enjoy designer, but it is something I save for and treat myself to on special occasions. When it comes to designer I only consider if it is good quality and functional for my life. I have an all leather Marc Jacob’s tote, and it’s so durable and the leather is great quality but I understand people not liking it because of the print. But they are truly good quality bags and actually not a bad price for full leather.
It’s totally okay to reward yourself! I used to do the same, and grew up for years wanting a luxury bag. No-one in my family or immediate circle has them and I rarely use ig or tik tok so it was purely for my own interest. If you are still saving, investing and handling bills it’s fine to treat yourself!
The thing with watches, particularly Rolex, is after eating cheesecake for 8 years you’d have nothing, but if you had the Rolex you’d be able to sell it, potentially for a profit. The other part of watches is some people like them even though we don’t need them for time or to be flashy. Some people wear $300 Seiko or $500 micro brands or a $6k Omega that was purchased grey market for $4k and gifted to them and nobody they interact with knows a thing about watches and they probably assume it’s not expensive.
I was about to buy a designer bag at the end of this month, but suddenly your video popped up in my recommendations! Now you've got me rethinking the purchase. 🤔😅
I love Cara and I watch EVERY video as soon as it comes out, BUT I learn about most of the trends and expensive things people spend on from her. I'm so minimal (I guess) that I mostly buy from Lidl or second hand from charity shops or Vinted (a few times a year), and I declutter often, since I get anxiety from clutter. I donate and save some of my salary each month, which I wouldn't be able to do if I spend it on things I'll shove in my wardrobe. I'm surprised that people would spend so much money on needless stuff that they don't need. I hope the trends change to minimal and sustainable living instead of endless consumerism .
When I visited Florence, we toured the Peruzzi leather goods company. They showed us how things were made, and our tour group got a discount on purchases. I bought a cute small fuchsia purse, very pretty, but I should have known how impractical it is. I’m so not an itty bitty purse person; I usually take the bus, so I need to bring with me whatever I need while I’m out like a water bottle, my phone, a crossword puzzle, some compact shopping bags, etc. The mini bag works for clubbing, but.. oh yeah, I don’t really club 😂 So it’s a bit of a regret, although I don’t think it was too expensive (wish I remembered just how much, but it wouldn’t have been much over $100 I hope). They did have some beautiful silk scarves sold by outdoor vendors, very reasonably priced, wonderful quality, great choice for gifts
I know someone who but luxury bags. It’s expensive enough and its also very fragile. You can have sunlight shine on them too much and you can’t wash it in a certain way. I mean I can afford all these bags but what matters is THE WORTH
Hi im a watch nerd, and its not only status that we will pay for high pricing. its a sickness called getting to into a hobby 😂. if you dont go for rolex a lot of ppl dont know whats on your wrist even if you blow over 5k
One more comment, rolexes in the 4k-10k range tend to hold their value. + Or -1-1.5k. Rolexes are one of the few watches that will last long enough to pass down and have the most recognizability additional when selling, you can usually recoop 80% of the cost depending on how popular that model is. Lol a 1990s datejust cost me 5500 and i sold it back for 5200...its not comparable to lux bag resellers imo.
I am strangely conflicted on this video... First part i was "jeez, who spends a 1000+ on a mini bag that can barely hold a pair of airpods" woman and their strange hobbies.. And then the luxury watches came on, and i felt called out. Sure i can claim value retention on my watches, sure i can get back just about what i paid, but i have no idea if those mini bags have value retention... something with throwing stones in glass houses...
Good as always, I think visiting former trends to see how the hype is now a fad would be impactful, like visiting the Stanley cup rush of 6 months ago.
As a guy who had never much felt the attraction of fashion, luxury, designers etc in general (outside of video games) I'm struck by how a mini bag is actually kind of right up my alley. Of course for me it would more likely be something I make myself or indeed something bought really cheap, and the style would be quite a bit different too. But still... why are small versions of things so interesting??
Cheesecake huh? For me a bag is not a bag if it cannot hold a whole fried chicken! Definitely not worth it, however cute they are. Also most people addicted to their phones keep them in their hands, not in their bags, so a bag can be tiny. And may I add that I like it when you show what kind of houses you can buy for the price of one watch. I think it illustrates perfectly how ridiculous the luxury items are. One thing that must be mentioned also is the opportunities you lose when you spend your money that way: you can pursue a higher education, afford the living costs to do an unpaid/badly paid internship that will help your career, travel etc.Oh, and yes to part 2 of this video (and generally yes to video from you!)
There is a right answer. Don't buy overpriced shit. Buy good quality things you can use for years and costs on average an affordable price. I bought a silver bracelet for £75 and I've been wearing it since 2006.
While I agree with most of your points, the watch one is where it's just a case of "out of your tax bracket of understanding". Especially when talking about the Patek. And no, I'm not a dude trying to justify his spending habits. I'm a girl from a family/background where collecting such watches is pretty common. Nobody is buying those to 'signal wealth', because they're basically out of reach for anyone who isn't already good with / has a lot of money. I get a lot of comments when I wear a Rolex, because it's so well-known. I get zero comments when I wear a Patek, except by others who are wealthy and know how to spot them. At that level, it's silly to use a compounding interest calculator to justify it as a "silly expense". 30 years of 7%? My mum's Jaeger went from 90k to 170k in a year. A Patek a friend bought for 800k went to 2m in 2 years.
i love designer bags, i have quite a bit and Cara is right, you don't wear it all! Some of mine just sits pretty! haha :D I could invest it but we are already saving and investing for FI/RE and we are on track. So balance is good!
I actually like the more unique 'the Tote bags bags. but I don't have tiktok, I like it because I made the decision to like it- which I think is important. if you like something just because you've seen it a lot, and not because you decided you liked it, than you shouldn't get that item
10:40 "I can eat Godiva chocolate cake everyday for 8.5 years and still have money left for the price of a Rolex watch" You also get diabetes. Get a Rolex watch please
One piece of cheesecake a day isn't going to give you diabetes unless you have something else very serious going on. Rolex watches are a waste of money for people who are desperately trying to prove how much money they have. Maybe work on being less insecure
Luxury jewellery is just pointless. Take away the philanthropy argument, let's say you have $3000 set aside for jewellery, go to your local jeweler and you can have something custom made for less with better material not to mention value and sentimentality. You are also supporting an individual small business owner and sole trader as $3000 is literally a month's rent.
As long as you could buy it cash and dont destroy your financial health and you are happy with ur purchases, thats should be fine then Each person has their own satisfaction and happiness
I actually think the van kleef bracelet is really pretty but I’d also be really afraid to walk around with even a fake because it’s a known status symbol and I feel weird wearing things that even if fake are intended to boast wealth. I just love the separated clover design it’s really pretty and simple.
Hehe, the fun thing when watching this video are the ads that UA-cam runs in between. It is like the brain is getting conflicting messages. Think before you buy! Buy! Think! Buy! ...
Honestly, I dont think most normal people even buy this things. Most normal people are struggling nowadays, and even if not, like in my case, I still buy something much cheaper, because in today's economy I can't invest my money into a purse. Like I dont think most people will ever own a bag like this, if I look at where I live, it would be stupid of me to even wear it, because nobody has them - or just top tier celebrities. If you live in a small country, live a normal life, I don't think this video is even for you.
I think something as well for me is that the people who buy these things buy A LOT of it. I can absolutely understand someone saving up and buying a luxury handbag or scarf, or whatever because they've loved it for years and plan to use it for the rest of their lives. That special bag you bring out for holidays or date nights or something could be a really special thing that you maybe even think to pass down one day. BUT buying a whole collection of them? and just piling them in your closet is insane. Watches, you literally wear one at a time. why do you need 50.
I’m not interested in buying pieces like this, maybe a bag for a couple hundred bucks here and there, but designer doesn’t entice me too much. However, is anyone else disillusioned by $900 turning into like $7K in 30 years? That’s it?! I’m definitely in the not fully understanding investing your money camp, but I do have money in retirement and am trying to keep adding to it, but it feels so much more difficult to know all I can contribute will amount to a couple months living in 30 years time. Cool. Cool cool cool.
I might disagree in the point of the good watch, but only if you are truly getting a good watch not a luxury status watch. For example a 1k Hamilton watch might last you your entire life for 1k. That´s not waste, considering most people use smartwatches that last 1-2 years and contaminates way more. But Rolex, OMG they only thing they do is raising prices for the same movements as in the 80s. Buying gold and silver is also a good investment overall, it values like 5-6 points above inflation rate, better than your savings account. But don´t buy design that´s dumb.
I have been fortunate to have some designer clothes and “rich people” toys in my life. The status-driven clothes generally are not worth the money. If someone is being paid to wear that brand it means it is a mass market good (as it’s relying on sales to a wide market through a celebrities wide name recognition). It may not “feel” mass market as it’s “luxury” but the reality is many people can (although they shouldn’t) afford a $300 shirt. Luxury brands are profitable because they sell status symbols to a wide market and act as a gateway to an “exclusive” club/lifestyle. Neither the manufacturer nor the consumer care about the clothes, it is just the cheapest way to signal status (On the order of hundreds of dollars compared to hundreds of thousands with things like cars). It doesn’t really matter who makes the clothes as long as they’re using premium materials. If a brand advertises build quality and premium materials the clothes will fit you better and break in rather than break down. I advocate for buying used on Poshmark or eBay like I do. I have a collection of sweaters from high end brands (usually $800-$500 new) that I paid at most $50.
In my other comment I briefly mentioned cars. They are generally nicer as you pay more. I would rather spend $10,000 more on my car than get out of a $10,000 less-nice car with a Rolex watch on. Both of my parents had Rolex’s in the 90’s and both of them resold them and never bought luxury (or any really) watches since. Why? They’re not worth it and they’re not that functional. Just get a $100-200 watch for formal events and dinners from Seiko, Citizen, or Omega to wear with a suit and call it a day. If you like wearing watches the Apple Watch is fantastic and doubles as a fitness and heath tracker at 1/10-1/20th the cost of a Rolex.
I very much prefer to purchase from small local brands! Or if I am traveling, buy in local markets/stores. Items tend to be higher quality, fairly priced and original.

@@davidpachecogarcia yeah thats what i always say
Even worse, many brands, such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton, sell COSTUME/FASHION jewelry so the items are made from cheap materials but cost a fortune

Even their automatic watches, the Tsuyosa collection, is gorgeous, doesn't break the bank, and really resembles a Rolex from afar

This is a very sweet comment as I didn’t know about this niche subculture of watch collectors!

The variety of textures in the kislux pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
I'm very happy with my amazing G-Shock Casio watch that I've had for several years.
I agree with you with one caveat: *sometimes* the designer purse is the best option. Buy well first and you’ll have an item that lasts a lifetime not just because it’s the most hardwearing purse but because it’s excellent quality, completely represents your personal timeless style, and because you absolutely love it.
Yeah some high quality purses are good. You can’t just say designer because a lot of them are cheap materials.

Yes, to a part 2 please! ❤ How about a video on purchasing cars/ luxury cars?
Why am I even watching this. I can't even afford these bags.
Still e-waste.

You can go without them
Sure but there are seikos and g shocks for 10k, they are truly for watch lovers nobody flexing on others with them😂😂
I do enjoy designer, but it is something I save for and treat myself to on special occasions.
As someone who *hates* the look of backpacks, I still use one every now and then. 😂

Sure i can claim value retention on my watches, sure i can get back just about what i paid, but i have no idea if those mini bags have value retention... something with throwing stones in glass houses...
1000$ is going to be 1000$ 10 years from now too.
@@janisir4529do you mean as cash? If so then not really. Cash will become worth less over time as we’ve already seen
@@janisir4529not with inflation it's not, and if it's used it's even less
Good as always,
I think visiting former trends to see how the hype is now a fad would be impactful, like visiting the Stanley cup rush of 6 months ago.
Bro have you seen the videos of people cooking tiny foods for their hamsters to eat?
True story: I still have a canvas tote bag from Fossil that I got in probably 2010 and still get compliments on it when I wear it!
10:40 "I can eat Godiva chocolate cake everyday for 8.5 years and still have money left for the price of a Rolex watch"
You also get diabetes. Get a Rolex watch please
Or you can get a rep Rolex watch for like a 20th of the price and invest the rest!
One piece of cheesecake a day isn't going to give you diabetes unless you have something else very serious going on. Rolex watches are a waste of money for people who are desperately trying to prove how much money they have. Maybe work on being less insecure
Yup would love a part 2 of this sort of videos!
I love this channel so much❤🤓
Luxury jewellery is just pointless. Take away the philanthropy argument, let's say you have $3000 set aside for jewellery, go to your local jeweler and you can have something custom made for less with better material not to mention value and sentimentality. You are also supporting an individual small business owner and sole trader as $3000 is literally a month's rent.
My dad is an entire collection of those Rolex watches
My dad doesn’t even wear his watches
You're Jeannette McCurdy and Miranda Cosgrove put together
Besides the amazing content, thank you for mentioning Gaza ❤.
As long as you could buy it cash and dont destroy your financial health and you are happy with ur purchases, thats should be fine then
Each person has their own satisfaction and happiness
bought my AP for 23k in 2019 and sold it for 50k in 2022 for a down payment. no regrets. not all luxury goods are created equal
I actually think the van kleef bracelet is really pretty but I’d also be really afraid to walk around with even a fake because it’s a known status symbol and I feel weird wearing things that even if fake are intended to boast wealth. I just love the separated clover design it’s really pretty and simple.
You are amazing for this video!
Hehe, the fun thing when watching this video are the ads that UA-cam runs in between. It is like the brain is getting conflicting messages. Think before you buy! Buy! Think! Buy! ...
Yeeees I love this serie 😊
Honestly, I dont think most normal people even buy this things. Most normal people are struggling nowadays, and even if not, like in my case, I still buy something much cheaper, because in today's economy I can't invest my money into a purse. Like I dont think most people will ever own a bag like this, if I look at where I live, it would be stupid of me to even wear it, because nobody has them - or just top tier celebrities. If you live in a small country, live a normal life, I don't think this video is even for you.
Very timely! I was looking at buying some stuff, but kept asking do I really NEED it?
My co-borrower bought a super expensive Hermes belt and my first thought was "damn, I could buy so many tacos with that money".
Awesome video as always.
i love my £30 xioumi smartwatch
Yes part two please!!!
