It's a known fact these people are very high maintenance, to the point it's fair to assume their costs would take all of their paychecks in a heartbeat. It's the same as us mortals.
True like,i dont need to always spend money on slincare,clothes,gyms,trainers etc, i can just buy my basic stuff. Noone will visit my home for an interview so it can be cheap and undecorated. Noone will judge me for staying at a hostel or taling the bus. I dont have crazy filming schedules so i dont need a meal service,a cleaner or a nanny in the future. Also, my job is stable and i dont work sporadically,like actors. Noone will judge me for not looking rich on social media.

Unlike in the past, actors now have much more competition that ever. Influencers, Video games, Streamers, UA-camrs, Bollywood, Podcasters, Anime, etc. So, the internet killed the movie star.

People are terminally online and don't realize that a lot of these celebrities are terrible representatives of reality. Most of them either get free/loaned expensive stuff, better contracts, have connections, or have advocates. Celebrities are like artists of old: There's always a patron willing to invest money into you for entertainment.
The real rich people in Hollywood are the producers and entrepreneurs,thats why you hear such stories of artists being victims of abuse. Celebrities dont have the power because fame is fleeting,power and wealth isnt.(i mean it is but its not dependent on being famous,likeable,charismatic etc) Decision makers in hollywood are the CEOs and celebrities are the employees. And decision makers that make artistic choices are rarely actors themselves.

Celebrities live above their means and it’s as simple as that, I think a lot of them feel pressure to live a certain lifestyle if your rich and famous and it drives a lot of them “broke” but let’s not kid ourselves, celebrity broke is different from our broke, their broke is more so I can’t afford my very rich lifestyle anymore not broke broke like us where we don’t have a dime in the bank, no cash, nothing of any real value and are legit struggling to get by/survive

Yeah their idea of broke is different and I don't think for one second, they are as wealthy as they put out there. Their expensive to keep the illusion up are so beyond. I think being a reality tv star is the worst because of the amount of money needed to invest in the illusion of having more than you really have. It seems most of them were never that rich.
People assume that every celebrity is a millionaire or something, but you really have to be an A-lister and be consistently working to be making crazy amounts like that. If you are popular enough to bring in money for a movie or show, then you are more likely to make more, which means you need a large loyal fanbase too.
Chloe Bailey talks about this. When an artist (as in singer/rapper) signs with a record label, the artists are given an “advance” aka loan that they are expected to pay back by creating and selling an album. Songs can have millions of streams/sales but the artist will be the last to get paid after the producers, promoters, record label and everyone else gets their cut first. It turns bad when the artist’s album doesn’t make enough money to pay back the loan. I can’t remember the singers’ names but I remember this happening to a lot of the lesser known American Idol winners. They win, get signed to a label, lose popularity, and end up going into debt because of it. It’s actually why a lot of artists try to tour so often; that’s where they make the most money. I saw the Pussycat Dolls documentary where it showed that the girls were making about $800/week (todays equivalent). They were pushed to keep touring and performing almost non-stop. They were part of a 360 deal where anything involving their groups name was going to go first in profits to the label they were with.
Only when an artist keeps or regains their publishing rights and have sold a zillion units (streams, downloads, albums, …) and were lucky enough to live long enough and be born in 1950s can they sell their catalog (rights) for $100s of millions. The copy right is good for 70 years after death; so if you are who ever (legacy legend) being alive means the buyer has 70 years after the day the deal is closed.
I just want to point out that the advance isn't a bad deal to the artist, as long as they realise it is a loan. It is the parts where they negotiate what cuts the label takes and from what, and what costs you carry, and what they. The advance will only be deducted from the earnings you have agreed to give the label a cut. So in the not very unusual situation where your music career fails, the label will continue collecting the loan from your (almost nonexistent) music residuals, but can't touch what you earn from the career you have in other field that feeds you. For your personal risk, it is better deal than most loans. It will push you out of certain sections of music industry if you fail, but failing usually does it by itself as well. With TLC and some others, tour costs were added to the advance and the artists didn't quite realise how bad a deal that was. Always know what you pay for and what the labels responsibilities are. If they just loan you the money to rent their resources (studio, equipment, personel etc), that's a bad deal. Their cut needs to pay for somethings.
Oh man, I was once listening to a child actor who went broke and they broke down some of their outrageous costs of living and it was so interesting. Similar to lifestyle inflation, once you’re making a certain amount, you’re “expected” to pay for things like managers, agents, accountants, lawyers, stylists, hair and makeup artists, consultants... I wish I could remember what it was from but it was interesting how quickly a large amount can disappear each month
Cosmetic surgeries, nutritionists, personal trainers, pet sitters, personal assistants, house staff ranging from gardener to pool maintenance to eletricity maintenance to cleaning and cooking...
To avoid spending for instant gratification, every time I'm going to pay for a service or buy a product, I try to think if my future self will appreciate it.

I think the idea is not everyone is making 40 mil if you watched the video. In the video, it shows that 80% of actors are making less than 25k a year, that's a barrista at Starbucks. Actually, its worst than that since one gets medical and dental working at Starbucks. Back in the old studio system of Hollywood, the studios loaned jewels, glamorous clothes to stars for parties & film premiers. So, actors didn't go out of pocket back then.
That 40 mil is 20mill after taxes probably 5mill of that goes to managers assistants and lawyers 15mill left (a lot of money i know but theres a difference between having 40 mil sitting and earning 40mil youd be surprised how quick it wittles down when taxes and services are included
I have SO many friends that spend far beyond their means and it’s always shocking that, regardless of debt, they wanna go on elaborate trips and super fancy dinners. I’d rather work on extra mortgage payments and investing because that is gonna make my life actually better.
Mhmm I don't have friends irl and online I don't know how they spend but for me , I work and spend without debt. however I don't have insurance and my bank is barely present. I spend lots of money on Tech products , and that's thanks to 1$ meal / day and dual jobs ( one part time , one normal ) Once college ends I will work a better job and maybe risk some financial investment. People work for their needs , and I like tech so it's fine but sure I don't spend a lot once I have enough stuff My one bad habit of collection also there. I use to collect hotwheels , cd or pokemon/magic. Now I collect phones. Second hand phone is fine , so when I have lots of money I go to second hand shops to buy phones from each brands like Xiaomi Poco , xiaomi redmi and so on. I also watch lots of youtube tech vids so I'm glad to watch these videos Fun fact , despite of how much I love tech, I also have digital detox days , where I keep myself off tech Tech is nice but social media is not always great and sometimes even going out of youtube and tech is relaxing. But yeah you should spend money wisely. For me this works okay. No debt and all tax paying fine. However yes if I get sick or injuries , I don't have any money . that's why and eating also locked :)) I walk my way to college and work so no bus fee. It also adds to walk diet.

Another wonderful video, thank you for your essays! I work in fashion, and have many friends that work for high end designer brands and work at very reputable publications, they get paid dirt too. The thing about fashion and Hollywood is that the people working in the industry work very hard to sell you an image, a world, a story. But behind it all, its not glamours!
I think it's a mixture of "finally being able to live my dream life", and the expectations of the boulevard press. An actor living in a 5-room house in a quiet suburb? Inconceivable. He'd be hounded endlessly by paparazzi trying to figure out what is wrong with him. And once you "have to" live in a walled mansion with private security, I guess things start to spiral out of control.
Maybe hounded at the time of move but paparazzi have their job an and loves and can’t stay in some suburb airing someone to come out. Most paparazzi pictures these days are taken of celebs who call the paps. And older and less glamorous celebs (like directors, writers, fashion designers). Often do live in less glamorous areas but in bigger houses. It’s the actor and singer types whose product is themselves and their image closely that get more scrutiny (and even then there are known characters actors and older actors).
Speaking of Sydney Sweeney, she lives in a waterfront property and paps literally canoe under her windows to try and catch her naked. It’s a maddening existence.
You give a group of people who have likely never had money before, who tend to have little education, more money than any normal person could ever dream of. It's a recipe for overspending. It's similar to why lottery winners end up broke.
A lot of actors hit a big wall in Covid as the lifestyle was dependent on the income that stopped. I am glad that my late hubby and I lived a "normal" life and had good savings ....you never know when life hits you and projects just disappear....luv from Bombay

But during the actors strike she actually had to get a job in retail just to keep the lights on when she should have been able to live off her streamed shows.
That's rough. They should be paid royalties from their shows. It's too bad that's not really a thing or if they do, they are paid like $0.20 per episode.
@@mccolkthey didn't sign contracts based on shows being rerun decades later. They expected the shows to be on TV, then DVD/video, and maybe occassional reruns, but eventually fading out. So they made a contract to get a lump sum and maybe a bit from sales, and were happy. That was simply how it was. If I build someone a house, should the owner be paying me 20years later because they're still enjoying the house? No, that's crazy. I did a set amount of labour and was compensated. Same with artists. If they choose to give up some of their guaranteed pay in the hopes the long term payments from a projects success, then that's fine. But they can't take the guaranteed pay then whine later that in hindsight the other deal would have been better.

Recently saw Shannon Sharpe & Charles Barkley on Club Shay Shay discussing how living the “celeb flexing lifestyle” leads to many pro athletes going broke. That $20 million or $100 million contract is only good for 4 years (average careers) has to last after taxes for the rest of your life unless you have a second act (like these two). Charles Barkley recalled how his former 76er teammate Julius Dr J Erving asking him, “Charles, just how many cars can you drive at one time?” Charles recalled answering, “One.” Dr. J replied, “so why do you need five?” Sharp noted that Barkley will be recognized because he’s Charles Barkley if he drives up in a Kia or a Bentley.
I think the topic of entitlement is missing from the video. There are people groomed to believe being popular means they can overspend and figure out how to pay for things later. Being gifted something expensive can create the illusion that you are owed these things when really you’ve sold your soul to the highest bidder.
We focus on visible outliers, which gives the impression that true wealth is more widespread and stable than it actually is. Essentially survivorship bias. A lot of people in general are struggling, broke and overall not doing well but of course no one is going to publicly advertise that.

They have a lot of people to pay. Agent takes a percentage, manager, personal assistant, million dollar home and maintenance, make up artist, stylist, chef, security etc… a lot of expenses.
I knew someone that was always posting content of their travels, and I figured she must’ve been doing pretty well for herself. I find out later that she pretty much couch surfs and eats cup ramen on the trips. I think giving the illusion of having a fun time was more important than actually having a good time?
If one looks at "Classic Hollywood" lifestyles like stars from the 1930's-1960's they had relatively affluent lifestyles but they didn't live overstated lifestyles like stars today. If one looks at homes of Humphrey Bogart or Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward their homes are the type that one's dentist or insurance broker would live in. This garish over the top lifestyle is more akin to how a third world leader would surround themselves with heads of security, managers etc.
Absolutely! I always found it interesting how the earliest Hollywood stars lived in an equally early Los Angeles, an up-and-coming desert town with little to do but party at one another's houses when they weren't filming. So the A-listers of the time essentially invested in their palatial homes for entertaining and showing off but also because travel was still costly/arduous and studios held them under tight contracts, so you were pretty much stuck at home base.

In fact, this is what led to some of the drug addiction in Hollywood, actors that were injured were given drugs and they became addicted to these drugs. The plucky adventure serial actress Pearl S. White was injured while doing her own stunts in her films, her injuries she had for life. So, it wasn't quite the glamorous life as usually portrayed. Buster Keaton also sustained injuries as well. At that time, Hollywood was truly collegial and being a small community, nearly everyone knew each other. So, they would entertain each other at their homes. As more people were attracted to the area, nightclubs emerged in the 1920's. However, the landmark Beverly Hills Hotel was established in 1912. So, they were other types of entertainment. The Hollywood royalty of that era was Douglas Fairbanks & Mary Pickford and if one got an "invite" to Pickfair, one truly had "arrived". When foreign dignitaries arrived in the US, they all wanted an invite to Pickfair.
Remember, it’s called “show business” for a reason. If there’s a camera on, almost everything you see is a performance. There isn’t a single person reading this who wouldn’t look like a celebrity if supported by an army of professional and experienced artists.
I concur with Kamiko Glen. Even though I am not in the business any longer, I have other businesses, I still get Residuals and Royalties from SAG from things I did when I was a teen. I have done projects like The Sopranos, The remake of The Miracle on 34th St., Basketball Dairies with Leonardo DiCaprio, The Crow and a few others. Every other month I will get somewhere from $10 to $50, and also Royalties that come in like twice a year. It can be anywhere from $20 to $60. 🤦🏻♂️
They also have so many people with their hands out every month.. From Attorneys, CPAs, property managers, assistants, other types of employees like housekeeper(s), gardeners, agents… the list keeps going

Now some are trying to avoid this by getting into business. Unfortunately, they may just latch on to whatever business idea their friend proposes and lose a lot of money. Do people forget net worth websites and salary for celebrities aren’t always accurate? There also fees, you have to pay to agents she has a media team designers, and then there’s taxes. People confuse high followers with wealth.
Stars like Arnold, Sly, Sigourney Weaver, and others of their generation almost never stopped working and searching for ways to make their money work for them. Today's stars really don't study how to make their money work for them.
I think it was Grace from Beyond the trailer that broke down how despite a 50 million dollar paycheck for Barbie, Margot Robbie went home with far less. You have to pay for your : Agent who gets a direct percentage, stylist (those Barbie tour looks did not happen on their own), lawyers who negotiated those contrats, personal trainer (to look good and get roles), employees (she has a production company) then other expenses like beauty treatments, food , maybe taking care of family (parents and that brother who's always in trouble). And add to the fact that they cant live and shop in regular areas so automatically their expenses are higher.

It's also about who writes the contract, residuals and perks are written in. The better the manager is the better the contract. Having a family member in the business and doing research gives you a better insight!
I wish AD just went to these ‘non rich celebrity’ homes to show they live a normal life. But I guess touring curated mansions is a more interesting spectical, ppl want to see the glam and the riches. Who cares about a celebrity who lives in a 3 room apartment…and didn’t even have an architect or an inertor designer to decorate the space. And probably those celebrities also don’t want to show their simple living spaces because of appearances. Anywho, I wish it was normal to see celebrities who don’t live in mansions. The only thing that makes someone rich is honestly the fact that if day by day you feel fulfilled with what you've done and if it gives you some sort of contentment then you're truly rich since most people aren't millionaires nor billionaires who don't have debt to pay somewhere. It looks like an illusion because most of the population arealways running after money, they forget what the already have.

Robert Di Niro is paying 1 million per month to his ex-wife, so he is obligated to continue working even though he is 78 years old.
There have always been actors who like the job, but earn just a normal pay (esp. in theatre) ; but in the case of streaming, I'm with them: that's just leeching.. exploitation. Ridiculous. When it's someone like Cage, or Depp instead, we're taling about bad spending / managment of money

I am glad I wasn't young when all these online platforms emerged. The impressionable younger generation nowadays is bombarded with so much fake wealth, vanity, narcissism, materialism, and shallowness it's amazing! Back in the 90s, Mariah Carey was one woman considered not dressing appropriately and thus labeled Hoochie Mama. There was a distinct difference in the way that a prostitute dressed bc it was part of their job to attract attention and business. Now, every young woman dresses like a prostitute bc everyone is vying for attention stemming fr a lack of self-confidence and self-esteem. That is one of the drawbacks of being heavily exposed to media influencers. I know I have gone out of topic here but I just wanted to share my thoughts! As wealthy as our country as a whole is, younger people live from paycheck to paycheck, and flexing fake wealth in the media is just making it worse.

Pursuing a career as a celebrity is a risky, risky move. No matter what Hollywood shouts in its rags-to-riches movies, you'll be very, very lucky to earn $50K+ annually as an actor/entertainer. If you love entertainment that much, try to find a stable, salaried role that doesn't depend on your personal fame: accountant, hair stylist, etc.
It's gotta be expensive being a celebrity since they can't just walk down the street like regular folk. They need security detail, drivers, large walled places to keep people away and not feel imprisoned. Not for me.
I’ve never compared my life to anything especially “celebs”. I own a beautiful home not a mansion but 2600 sqft on a double lot, car paid off, investments, 401k, 6 month emergency fund. I live within my means and I’m not rich by any means.

People are terminally online and don't realize that a lot of these celebrities are terrible representatives of reality. Most of them either get free/loaned expensive stuff, better contracts, have connections, or have advocates. Celebrities are like artists of old: There's always a patron willing to invest money into you for entertainment.
The real rich people in Hollywood are the producers and entrepreneurs,thats why you hear such stories of artists being victims of abuse. Celebrities dont have the power because fame is fleeting,power and wealth isnt.(i mean it is but its not dependent on being famous,likeable,charismatic etc) Decision makers in hollywood are the CEOs and celebrities are the employees. And decision makers that make artistic choices are rarely actors themselves.

Yeah their idea of broke is different and I don't think for one second, they are as wealthy as they put out there. Their expensive to keep the illusion up are so beyond. I think being a reality tv star is the worst because of the amount of money needed to invest in the illusion of having more than you really have. It seems most of them were never that rich.
People assume that every celebrity is a millionaire or something, but you really have to be an A-lister and be consistently working to be making crazy amounts like that. If you are popular enough to bring in money for a movie or show, then you are more likely to make more, which means you need a large loyal fanbase too.
Chloe Bailey talks about this. When an artist (as in singer/rapper) signs with a record label, the artists are given an “advance” aka loan that they are expected to pay back by creating and selling an album. Songs can have millions of streams/sales but the artist will be the last to get paid after the producers, promoters, record label and everyone else gets their cut first.
It turns bad when the artist’s album doesn’t make enough money to pay back the loan. I can’t remember the singers’ names but I remember this happening to a lot of the lesser known American Idol winners. They win, get signed to a label, lose popularity, and end up going into debt because of it.
It’s actually why a lot of artists try to tour so often; that’s where they make the most money.
I saw the Pussycat Dolls documentary where it showed that the girls were making about $800/week (todays equivalent). They were pushed to keep touring and performing almost non-stop. They were part of a 360 deal where anything involving their groups name was going to go first in profits to the label they were with.
Only when an artist keeps or regains their publishing rights and have sold a zillion units (streams, downloads, albums, …) and were lucky enough to live long enough and be born in 1950s can they sell their catalog (rights) for $100s of millions. The copy right is good for 70 years after death; so if you are who ever (legacy legend) being alive means the buyer has 70 years after the day the deal is closed.

I just want to point out that the advance isn't a bad deal to the artist, as long as they realise it is a loan. It is the parts where they negotiate what cuts the label takes and from what, and what costs you carry, and what they.
The advance will only be deducted from the earnings you have agreed to give the label a cut. So in the not very unusual situation where your music career fails, the label will continue collecting the loan from your (almost nonexistent) music residuals, but can't touch what you earn from the career you have in other field that feeds you. For your personal risk, it is better deal than most loans. It will push you out of certain sections of music industry if you fail, but failing usually does it by itself as well.
With TLC and some others, tour costs were added to the advance and the artists didn't quite realise how bad a deal that was. Always know what you pay for and what the labels responsibilities are. If they just loan you the money to rent their resources (studio, equipment, personel etc), that's a bad deal. Their cut needs to pay for somethings.
Oh man, I was once listening to a child actor who went broke and they broke down some of their outrageous costs of living and it was so interesting. Similar to lifestyle inflation, once you’re making a certain amount, you’re “expected” to pay for things like managers, agents, accountants, lawyers, stylists, hair and makeup artists, consultants... I wish I could remember what it was from but it was interesting how quickly a large amount can disappear each month

I think the idea is not everyone is making 40 mil if you watched the video. In the video, it shows that 80% of actors are making less than 25k a year, that's a barrista at Starbucks. Actually, its worst than that since one gets medical and dental working at Starbucks. Back in the old studio system of Hollywood, the studios loaned jewels, glamorous clothes to stars for parties & film premiers. So, actors didn't go out of pocket back then.
That 40 mil is 20mill after taxes probably 5mill of that goes to managers assistants and lawyers 15mill left (a lot of money i know but theres a difference between having 40 mil sitting and earning 40mil youd be surprised how quick it wittles down when taxes and services are included

I have SO many friends that spend far beyond their means and it’s always shocking that, regardless of debt, they wanna go on elaborate trips and super fancy dinners. I’d rather work on extra mortgage payments and investing because that is gonna make my life actually better.

I work in fashion, and have many friends that work for high end designer brands and work at very reputable publications, they get paid dirt too. The thing about fashion and Hollywood is that the people working in the industry work very hard to sell you an image, a world, a story. But behind it all, its not glamours!
I think it's a mixture of "finally being able to live my dream life", and the expectations of the boulevard press. An actor living in a 5-room house in a quiet suburb? Inconceivable. He'd be hounded endlessly by paparazzi trying to figure out what is wrong with him. And once you "have to" live in a walled mansion with private security, I guess things start to spiral out of control.
Maybe hounded at the time of move but paparazzi have their job an and loves and can’t stay in some suburb airing someone to come out. Most paparazzi pictures these days are taken of celebs who call the paps.
And older and less glamorous celebs (like directors, writers, fashion designers). Often do live in less glamorous areas but in bigger houses. It’s the actor and singer types whose product is themselves and their image closely that get more scrutiny (and even then there are known characters actors and older actors).

But during the actors strike she actually had to get a job in retail just to keep the lights on when she should have been able to live off her streamed shows.
That's rough. They should be paid royalties from their shows. It's too bad that's not really a thing or if they do, they are paid like $0.20 per episode.
@@mccolkthey didn't sign contracts based on shows being rerun decades later. They expected the shows to be on TV, then DVD/video, and maybe occassional reruns, but eventually fading out. So they made a contract to get a lump sum and maybe a bit from sales, and were happy. That was simply how it was.
If I build someone a house, should the owner be paying me 20years later because they're still enjoying the house? No, that's crazy. I did a set amount of labour and was compensated. Same with artists.
If they choose to give up some of their guaranteed pay in the hopes the long term payments from a projects success, then that's fine. But they can't take the guaranteed pay then whine later that in hindsight the other deal would have been better.
Celebrities could own a modest house and payed off car and be set.

Charles Barkley recalled how his former 76er teammate Julius Dr J Erving asking him, “Charles, just how many cars can you drive at one time?” Charles recalled answering, “One.” Dr. J replied, “so why do you need five?”
Sharp noted that Barkley will be recognized because he’s Charles Barkley if he drives up in a Kia or a Bentley.

I think the topic of entitlement is missing from the video. There are people groomed to believe being popular means they can overspend and figure out how to pay for things later. Being gifted something expensive can create the illusion that you are owed these things when really you’ve sold your soul to the highest bidder.

I knew someone that was always posting content of their travels, and I figured she must’ve been doing pretty well for herself. I find out later that she pretty much couch surfs and eats cup ramen on the trips. I think giving the illusion of having a fun time was more important than actually having a good time?
If one looks at "Classic Hollywood" lifestyles like stars from the 1930's-1960's they had relatively affluent lifestyles but they didn't live overstated lifestyles like stars today. If one looks at homes of Humphrey Bogart or Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward their homes are the type that one's dentist or insurance broker would live in. This garish over the top lifestyle is more akin to how a third world leader would surround themselves with heads of security, managers etc.
Absolutely! I always found it interesting how the earliest Hollywood stars lived in an equally early Los Angeles, an up-and-coming desert town with little to do but party at one another's houses when they weren't filming. So the A-listers of the time essentially invested in their palatial homes for entertaining and showing off but also because travel was still costly/arduous and studios held them under tight contracts, so you were pretty much stuck at home base.

In fact, this is what led to some of the drug addiction in Hollywood, actors that were injured were given drugs and they became addicted to these drugs. The plucky adventure serial actress Pearl S. White was injured while doing her own stunts in her films, her injuries she had for life. So, it wasn't quite the glamorous life as usually portrayed. Buster Keaton also sustained injuries as well.
At that time, Hollywood was truly collegial and being a small community, nearly everyone knew each other. So, they would entertain each other at their homes. As more people were attracted to the area, nightclubs emerged in the 1920's. However, the landmark Beverly Hills Hotel was established in 1912. So, they were other types of entertainment.
The Hollywood royalty of that era was Douglas Fairbanks & Mary Pickford and if one got an "invite" to Pickfair, one truly had "arrived". When foreign dignitaries arrived in the US, they all wanted an invite to Pickfair.

I concur with Kamiko Glen. Even though I am not in the business any longer, I have other businesses, I still get Residuals and Royalties from SAG from things I did when I was a teen. I have done projects like The Sopranos, The remake of The Miracle on 34th St., Basketball Dairies with Leonardo DiCaprio, The Crow and a few others. Every other month I will get somewhere from $10 to $50, and also Royalties that come in like twice a year. It can be anywhere from $20 to $60. 🤦🏻♂️
They also have so many people with their hands out every month.. From Attorneys, CPAs, property managers, assistants, other types of employees like housekeeper(s), gardeners, agents… the list keeps going

And add to the fact that they cant live and shop in regular areas so automatically their expenses are higher.

One small thing you missed on Actors on the lower end : Actors have to pay about 3k to the Actors union(SAG) to become union and paÿ an Annual Fee

I wish AD just went to these ‘non rich celebrity’ homes to show they live a normal life. But I guess touring curated mansions is a more interesting spectical, ppl want to see the glam and the riches. The only thing that makes someone rich is honestly the fact that if day by day you feel fulfilled with what you've done and if it gives you some sort of contentment then you're truly rich since most people aren't millionaires nor billionaires who don't have debt to pay somewhere. It looks like an illusion because most of the population arealways running after money, they forget what the already have.

I am glad I wasn't young when all these online platforms emerged. The impressionable younger generation nowadays is bombarded with so much fake wealth, vanity, narcissism, materialism, and shallowness it's amazing! Back in the 90s, Mariah Carey was one woman considered not dressing appropriately and thus labeled Hoochie Mama. There was a distinct difference in the way that a prostitute dressed bc it was part of their job to attract attention and business. Now, every young woman dresses like a prostitute bc everyone is vying for attention stemming fr a lack of self-confidence and self-esteem. That is one of the drawbacks of being heavily exposed to media influencers.
I know I have gone out of topic here but I just wanted to share my thoughts! As wealthy as our country as a whole is, younger people live from paycheck to paycheck, and flexing fake wealth in the media is just making it worse.

If a celeb earns millions of dollars and claim they're living paycheck to paycheck then they have no clue how to manage money. If I got paid even one paycheck some of these celebs make for one film, I'd be able to retire.
6 month break? Oh boo hoo she has to work in her 20s like the rest of us 😂... expensive mansions in gated communities are expensive. She would have plenty of money if she spent what the average person spent, but celebrities aren't living in trailer parks and shopping at walmart like the rest of us.
Pursuing a career as a celebrity is a risky, risky move. No matter what Hollywood shouts in its rags-to-riches movies, you'll be very, very lucky to earn $50K+ annually as an actor/entertainer. If you love entertainment that much, try to find a stable, salaried role that doesn't depend on your personal fame: accountant, hair stylist, etc.
It's gotta be expensive being a celebrity since they can't just walk down the street like regular folk. They need security detail, drivers, large walled places to keep people away and not feel imprisoned. Not for me.

I’ve never compared my life to anything especially “celebs”. I own a beautiful home not a mansion but 2600 sqft on a double lot, car paid off, investments, 401k, 6 month emergency fund. I live within my means and I’m not rich by any means.
I heard it said they live paycheck to paycheck just their checks are bigger than ours and their bills are way bigger too

Also, Cara, to play devil's advocate, do you think celebrities put on a fake persona to gain money from the brands they seem to promote candidly? I personally think that it's a move to remind the average person that they are "average". I agree, people need to stop comparing themselves with other people that still squat to poop.
When it came out that Anne Heche owned a home valued at about 2 million dollars, and had less than a million in the bank, I remember thinking that woman is 'Hollywood broke'.
That is like Bobby Axelrod explaining to one of this partners that with 40 million dollars to his name he really has no money.
