Love the C2 42" as a monitor but if LG offered a G Series in 42" with MLA, I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
Just got this TV to use as my monitor for PC gaming and honestly it's incredible, never seen so much quality in my life. The only complaint I have about it is the crazy reflections. As soon as there is a hint of light in your room you'll see some reflections and sometimes it's off-putting to see yourself while watching/playing something 😂😂 apart from that, amazing product and 100% recommend.
Same here!
C2 was too close for me on my desk, so I got a LG Oled Flex as well. This is awesome, too. LG rocks
You could always wear a paper bag over your head.
I actually love that the screen is so glossy. Makes the picture quality so good. No light reflections in my room anyway, so that's great.
Same! I love it as a monitor
I bought the C3 in 77” size and I’ve been loving it. I know there are other strong competitors at that size from Samsung but like you said, the C3 just works and hasn’t caused me any issues
LG's products are the most balanced in the OLED space. You can poke holes in them, they aren't the best, but they don't have huge issues that'll ruin your day.
I respect LG for that but they've been so complacent in the midrange OLED segment, the LG CX till the LG C3 are essentially the same with only chipset changes, wish they would use MLA next year.
I also have the 77 inch! Great TV and no complaints whatsoever! What a great tv for both movies and gaming!
Thank you for covering the tint/uniformity issues. Many of us WRGB owners suffer this issue and it doesn't get much coverage.
I think almost every lg glossy screen not only oled suffers from this. Even my macbook air which has lg’s ips screen. It really sucks that they use this still eventhough it’s so obvious it causes issues.
True! I had to return my C2 because the tint/uniformity issues were unbearable. I opted for the Panasonic instead and I don't know if I was lucky or what but the uniformity is perfect with no tint. Albeit, gradation is below average but I can live with that just fine.
I went from a Samsung edge lit monitor to a lg c3 42” a couple of months ago and i am in love with it. Everything consumed on this TV is a treat. Real HDR really enhances the experience. Great for PC and console.
Does it have pip or pbp? If so, how is it? I’m looking to connect two pc’s and split screens if possible.
hello. what about reflections in brighter rooms?
Despite the slight blurryness of text on in windows, especially in older apps, I am absolutely in love with my 42" C2. What a phenomenal TV to use as a Monitor replacement. I am excited to see what the C4 or C5 (if they continue this line) will bring to the table.
I think the bluryness only happens when you're using windows scaling.
I can confirm that text problems do not exist on Linux, if anyone is wondering.
144hz
@@voyagerrock1137 I can also confirm it doesn't show any blurriness on Linux but only if we use scaling (I'm using 1.5x). Using 1:1 pixel layout (i.e. no scaling) it will show some blurriness, which can be a bit distracting/annoying. In fact, this behavior also applies to Windows (tested) and probably any operating system we have at the moment.
@@Bigtymer781 windows sadly has terrible scaling and it’s super hard to get it to work right. 4K under windows can still be a complete mess.
Thanks vince. You’re really a cut above all the other TV reviewers on youtube.
I love my C3 that I got a few weeks ago. It was the 65" so not super relevant for this video but still, I love it. I just decided I trust LG more than Samsung and that was the deciding factor for me.
Same, bought it 3 weeks ago and super happy with
Samsung buys all their OLed panels from LG, thats all you need to know 😂
I have the 42-inch C2, and so this is a perfect video for me to watch to see if its worth the upgrade, thank you Vincent!!
So you bought one last year an are looking to buy again a year later???
Love the info! But I went with th C3 48” again upgraded from the CX48 ! I love the 48 but almost went with 42” ! Maybe soon I’ll find a use for the 42 now after this info!
Been using my C2 42inch for my PC and PS5 and it's great I have it set to 70 brightness and it's still bright almost too bright for PC use
For those wondering (especially using as a monitor), in SDR this TV does not trigger ABL at all, no matter if the the image is fullscreen white. And regarding the infamous ASBL issue (auto dimming in dark scenes), this has been fixed on firmware 03.33.65 (July 2023). Also, ASBL in actual static scenes on C3 is much smoother/gradual than previous generations. This TV as a monitor is freaking amazing!
Does it have pip or pbp? If so, how is it? I’m looking to connect two pc’s and split screens if possible.
That’s because the SDR brightness in PC mode is capped at low levels
Only when compared to HDR, right? Or is there anything special in PC mode?
So there's still asbl in static scenes, which means all gaming, news and sports broadcasts will be auto dimmed. Deal breaker, going for the c2 instead
@@stevenhocking6407, only if the scene is really static and stays static for at least 5 minutes -- so your examples don't apply. Also, the dimming process is very gradual, to the point that in the beginning is really hard to tell it's happening; just move your mouse cursor a bit and it reverts to the original brightness. I use C3 as a PC monitor for work, web and gaming, and I think it's really great :)
Just picked up a 42in C3 for monitor use. I only used it briefly but it looked nice. I had to travel, but when I get home it’s gaming time!
Does it have pip or pbp? If so, how is it? I’m looking to connect two pc’s and split screens if possible.
can you do LG C3 calibration video please
I know this is a TV channel, but this is such a good gaming monitor aswell.
Any monitor is a TV if it’s big enough
@@chibbyylolany TV is a monitor if it's small and your desk is deep enough haha.
From someone who used 49UM7300 and 43UP7500 as a monitor for 3+ years, 42" C3 would be a holy grail gaming/multitasking monitor for me.
I@@jnhkx I use 50 inch LCD TV as monitor thinking of upgrading to 55 inch OLED 😂
I’m still using my 48” wbe c1 , I love it
Liked the video during the first 3 seconds of the video because we KNOW Vince got our back and is all about helping out the people (consumers) make the best decisions with their hard earned money and not be fooled by big tech advertisement 🥰
I mean Vincent has some really close ties to Lg and Sony but I don’t feel like it discredits his work whatsoever. He remains objective unlike some other reviewers that will put down other brands in an attempt to convince people another brand is better and just so happen to have links to that “better” brand in the description 😂
Watching this on my 42 C2, C3 might be better but man I really don't see the need to upgrade. after 1 year and playing games, watching anime, watching movies, programming, and photo editing, I LOVE my LG C2.
Would really like to see MLA and heatsink in this size class; that would really sell it for gaming.
Why bother? You already can have the G3 in 55”
@@hastensavoir7782 What you mean, "Why bother?" 42 vs 55 is a big difference if you want to use one as a monitor, on a desk.
@@hastensavoir7782 Already have a 55" TV with the G2's panel (Philips OLED+907) so no point upgrading so soon. Looking for a PC monitor at this point
@@hastensavoir7782 For gaming…Not everyone has a big space.
@@hastensavoir7782 yeah no, dont want a 55" an armlength away from me. 42" is the perfect size, 48" would also maybe be acceptable but 55" is way too large
Hoping the C4 42" is a pretty big improvement especially with brightness. I may get one to use as a monitor.
If only samsung made 42 inch qd oleds
The C4 will make a bang, you can count on it.
32” glossy qd-oled 4K/240 coming Q1/Q2 ‘24 from ASUS, Alienware (curved), and MSI
doubtful. Youre looking at a new A10 processor and a 144Hz panel...thats about it.
Time will tell how big of an improvement the A10 processor is...
@@M.W.H. Lots of info out there to suggest that C4 will support 144hz.
I'm still rocking my 2012 Samsung FullHD TV and honestly watching all of Vincent's videos just keeps me from upgrading because I know I'll never have someone as competent as him calibrate a new TV :D
C3 looks like a great tv, however not enough improvements to warrant upgrading from my current lg c2 42 as a dedicated PC monitor. It is connected to PC and in PC/game mode the whole time (if I want to watchb50hz content or movies that's what tye 65" C1 in the lounge is for). If they bring back higher refresh support for BFI in later models then it would be worth upgrading.
No shit its similarly priced, realistically you can't expect a very big difference
I'd like a shootout between the LG C3 and Samsung 43" Neo QLED 4K QN90C for PC desktop use.
Despite the C3 having great gaming and picture quality, I wonder if the QN90C with its RGB pixel layout for better text rendering and less severe ABL for more stable brightness would be a better all-rounder.
I spent weeks in the run up to Black Friday debating between those two. Both have pros and cons for PC, modern consoles and 30fps systems, all of which I intend to use. Ended up deciding to wait another year and see what comes out.
I miss 37" TV's They were perfect as PC monitors 😭
C3 chrominance overshoot is much more noticeable than my previous C9. So much so that I'm thinking of returning it for a S90C
Enjoy the burn-in w/ Samsung 😂
@@OC.TINYYYfunny you say that s90c with 2 gen panel with 77 size probably has better burn in lifetime than g3.
C3 is not even competing with s90c, as it’s about 500 nits dimmer.
You can get 2nd gen panel with 65 inches too, as 1 gen is dimmed out.
I got c2 and s90c.
I managed to get a C3 just this past week for only $500, it's working great so far!
What size? Where? Does it have pip or pbp? If so, how is it? I’m looking to connect two pc’s and split screens if possible.
@@mpad680 It's a 42". I got incredibly lucky, it was a shelf display turned open box at a nearby Best Buy. The online price was different than the price in store, online said it was $725.
It's working really well, though the ABL is rather noticeable when using it as a PC monitor and shifting between things with higher APL, like switching between tabs that have a dark mode vs a light mode. Other than that, it's basically perfect.
There are a few modes for split screen, in the Multi View setting, it has side by side, picture in picture, and dual PC monitor mode. Side by side didn't want to use my laptop, probably because it's running at 1440p, but Dual PC monitor did let me show my laptop and my Apple TV next to each other, maybe fiddling with a few settings could get it working right. Two PCs should be what that mode is designed to work with.
It would be nice if LG implemented MLA on the 42" C4 OLED next year. But I'm betting we're just going to get another clone of the C2 with negligible 'improvements' again. Don't get me wrong, the C2 and C3 are great TV's but LG really needs to stop selling us the same TV every year. Especially since a handful of monitor manufacturers announced 4K 240hz QD OLED displays at Gamescom.
It is hard to get improvements that don`t cost money.
New chipset… and that is Only cheap upgrade they have.
Heat sink… cost money… mla cost money… new chipset about Same price as previous…
MLA, at least on the G3, has problems with brightness below 200 nits - reducing the dynamic range and making the image flatter. I would consider it useless until they fix that.
They won't bring the standout difference of the G-series down to the C-series until they have something new to make the G-series stand out. Business 101.
@@concinnus In that case they need to make a 42" G-series OLED.
@@0perativeX I think there's a market. Heck, I'd buy one. My guess is it's too difficult to shrink MLA and/or to get G-series brightness at the lower aperature ratio of small screens.
C2 wins cos you can turn off auto dimming completely, whereas c3's firmware update only fixed half of the auto dimming issues and can't be turned off in the service menu
Love Mr. Teoh's videos. I wish he could get his hands on the 83" S90C, C3, and A80L for a perfect software and hardware comparison since all those TVs very likely use the same panel.
Being the owner of a 65" S90C (luckily with a 2nd gen QD-OLED) and previously owned several LG TVs, I can already guarantee that, for the same panel, LG is for sure miles ahead. Samsung processing is horseshit, I only went for it due to QD-OLED, and thank god I wasn't particularly fond of motion interpolation in the first place cos it's directly unusable - soap opera to 300% and stuttery as hell. The panel is a delight though.
I have the C2 42inch and it's been great as a computer monitor. The changes in the C3 seem extremely marginal.. there is almost no 50hz content here in the US to care about that particular improvement and everything else seems to be hit or miss, one thing a tiny bit better and another a tiny bit worst.
Like someone said, wish Samsung would do a 42 inch qd oled. I plugged my computer to my s95B and the brightness level and color punch was night and day compared with the C2.
Yup, not sure why he even made this video. Reality is, C2, c3 are 99.9% identical and make him look like an LG shill
He makes videos on the products that are released each year. He doesn't work for those companies and has no control over what they do with their products. If there is only a minor iteration, then don't buy it. But it's only a minor iteration comparing it to the previous year's equivalent model, and who on earth is spending money each year on a new TV? If there is anyone, then they've got money to burn so it doesn't matter if there is little improvement. If you actually listen he also informs where the new product falls short of the previous model.
Why not the 43” QN90C
@@RoyalBoyle78 q90c is definitely brighter but VA panels are not ideal as monitors.. bad response times, VA smearing, bad viewing angles, etc..
That’s the reason only cheap monitors use VA panels. Monitors used for serious work are usually IPS and now also OLED.
I have it, and I love it.
My ONLY complaint is:
42" still too big. 😅
32" would be PERFECT.
Everything else is amazing and 42 is much better then the older 48", at least.
I remember watching crazy amounts of judder on an LG TV in a John Lewis showroom (so standard settings) when showing Wimbledon tennis live. Some years ago, but it was enough to put me off ever buying an LG - I was shocked that they could release a TV with firmware that screwed up that badly.
I'm late here. LG C3 for consal gaming 120HZ oled TV (black magic). Watching utube reviews to makesure I get right TV for my needs(gaming movies etc)
This feels a tad biased - for media consumption the A90K still has better image processing. Definitely though the LG is better for gaming.
Proud owner of a sony bravia master series A90k 42" bought a year ago, picture quality is stunning
Hi Vincent just wondering if you could make a best settings video for SDR and HDR content on the C3 and even a best settings video for gaming consoles 😀
I can remember Vincents review of the ST60! Crazy. That was my last high end TV and I'm thinking about getting an Oled now they're available for under £1000. I wonder if you will be reviewing one of the TV's in the entry level Panasonic MZ800 oled series? Given Panasonics slow retraction from the TV market I wonder if the legendary quality is still evident in the MZ800 line up? There is also a lot of uncertainty about whether it has a 60hz or 120hz display. Its currently priced at £999 for the 55" and its tempting to pull the trigger but with the S90c and C3 sometimes on sale for £1200 approx is it really the bargain it appears at face value? Hopefully HDTV Test can answer that at some point!
I got the 42 c3 for black friday for my ps5 / bedroom movies and im blown away how good it is
how much ?
Great Job as always! How is the sound quality without soundbar? Comparable to sony a90k acoustic surface? Thanks in advance and again thanks for your job.😊
Great video. Exactly everything I’d want to know as a casual tv enjoyer and gamer.
Thanks for the video. I have a question. Wich 48 4k tv is the best ?? I don’t know what to think now…
can you give us settings for c3 42' gaming please
I´m sorry to ask, but do you have a video guide with recommended configurations for this LG Model? I own a LGC3 55.
Do you think there might be a 32” C4?
Good tv for a small bedroom 😊
I was not happy with the 49” 2020 nano85 so I was trying to figure out an upgrade.
43” C3 was tempting but even as an open box it would’ve been $900😔
So I got the 48” a2.
I do game but so far none of what I play is 120hz… I couldn’t figure out any better options then the A2 but, 1 week in and picture at least does look amazing.
The A2 is definitely one of the best bang for the buck deals you can get. Are you based out of the US by any chance?
Do some gaming settings video bro you only did one video with C1 it’s a longe time ago make a best gaming settings for LG C3
to be clear. if your primary focus is console gaming at 60 hz OLED is a bad choice- the fast response time is too fast for 60 hz and a slower LCD will look smoother (just like plasmas look smoother than oled)
if you want high refresh rates- 120 hz OLED is not fast enough to benefit from OLED. in fact a 240 hz OLED is a world of difference where you will experience much better motion
Any possibility of a tcl x955 review. I can see theyre available in my market with quite decent delivery times
Thank yoou brother for your professional videos. I‘m looking for a tv for the living room in my new flat. Which would you recommend for a 55“ to 60“?? I kinda like the LG‘s from your videos over the years but never bought one. Please give me a advise. The LG OLED55C37LA OLED evo is in sale for 1300€ (before 2400€). Is this the c3 from your review but just bigger?
I use the 48 c2 as my do it all
I know it’s very niche but I’d love a test in the s90c 83’ to my understanding it uses the LG woled panel but is it comparable to the c3? And how does it stack up w the smaller qdoled s90’s
anxiously waiting for a 32” 4K OLED monitor with 144hrz refresh rate.
Seems i’ll be waiting a few more years seeing these corporations want to milk people for their money with subpar TV’s
no use going from 120-144 for me, need 240 hz at 4k for the 5xxx series next year
Perfect timing for this video. I am debating between the 48 and 42. Best Buy have the 48” ready to pick up for me. But still deciding.
You won't regret a 48 inch, it's great as a PC monitor AND for watching movies.
Thank you for the recommendation. That moves the needle a little towards the 48”. 😀
I currently have a 55 CX and it is awesome. I want to change because I want to “downsize “ a little. The 55 is too close to my face.
I wonder if the recommendation to use filmmaker mode for gaming also applies to the G3. If anyone knows, a link below would be great . 🙏🏼
Great review!!!! Do you think the new 2024 LG Oled 48” will have an MLA panel?
Does anybody know if Vincent has done settings for the LG C3 for use with xbox series x and ps5?
I got a c3 as a warranty replacement for a busted c1. Using PC input label with the xsx, I'm only getting 8b 4L8 with 422 chroma in dolby vision and game optimizer mode.
@Vincent great review. At 77 size, c3 or s90c? Which one u choose?
Would choose an A90K
Really hope we see 32" LG OLEDs next year
Whats so good about 32"? I used a 32 inch Samsung (PC monitor) for 7 years before I upgraded to a 48 inch C3. Best move I ever made.
Is it possible to force ALLM when using filmmaker mode? I have the c3, BTW I didn't notice an obvious improvement compared to my old c9, weird
That's because the underlying tech hasn't moved forward, development for the C class since the C9 has all been fiddling around the edges (fine tuning of the processing, operating system etc). Not sure where LG can really go with it.
Why did you upgrade if you don't mind me asking? I also have the C9 and don't see much of a reason to upgrade yet. QD-OLED probably needs another gen or two to mature and the WOLED doesn't really get much better anymore aside from processing improvements and boosting the brigthness slightly. If I were to upgrade, I'd probably go with a G series to get the MLA brightness benefit alongside the larger screen, but if things keep moving as slowly as they currently are, I'll probably keep my C9 until I start noticing some degradation of the OLED panel.
@@cosmiczeppelin hey cosmic, because I mostly play on pc+oled and the rtx 4090 had weird issues with the C9 like issues with hdr at 4k 120hz, wrong black levels, issues with Dolby atmos audio, black screen, probably some sort of incompatibility, that part is really nice with the c3
funny, 2 weeks ago i was looking for this video. So I went my way and finally got 42 C2 with my mac, i was willing to use 14 days trial as free return option, yes i knew it in reality there would be no way home. Meanwhile found blackfriday deal for C3 so I switched it and I am glad I did. If I would be stuck on C2, for usecase as monitor theres no regrets, lg 42 oled is always great choice. Great tip from last video I found from HDTVTest was about sony image retention and burn in comparison to LG. LG everytime you turn of the tv small pixel refresher is going on, this helps in the longterm to prevent burnin, in comparison sony was more prone to get image retention and burn in. I dont get it, u buy these displays from LG and they dont tell u its wise use this function instead of relying on expectations of dev team visualising perfect buble scenario which comes as theory put in practice in the bad way.
Patiently waiting on a 32” 4K version…
I don't think any human possesses that much patience.
You know that there are 32" 4k monitors out there now yea?...

Not with optical/ARC/eARC ports… So can have a 5.1/7.1/Atmos surround audio!
@@B.Ch3rry mhm ok, but if you have that audio setup, then that should have a tv 🤷🏼 Now I consider something a tv from 40" upwards. So I just don't get how you wanna sit in front of a 32 monitor, close enough to see it, but then you are too close to enjoy a full atmos setup sounds bouncing from the ceiling and all. Your setup just doesn't make sense 🤷🏼
Is it the case that you can’t get into the service menu on the C3 to turn off auto dimming when viewing static content? Or is there a work around for this?
There's no way to turn this off on C3, but you don't need to. Using it as a monitor, as long as you keep the cursor moving every 5 minutes or so the ASBL won't be triggered. Also, ASBL on C3 is much smoother/gradual than previous generations.

Thanks for the info. As a newby, question to you (and others) - Is a viewing distance of 10' 6" to close for an 85" mini-LED TV??? (wall mounted). Trying to gather actual experiences/use cases for decision making, a Newby.
Sounds pretty perfect to me ... as of 4K viewing distance calculators you need to sit closer than 11.9' to be able to see 4k details in the first place !
Too close is when being able to detect the pixel structure of the screen ... or when getting pain in your neck from constantly looking from left to right ;-)
Content quality: for 4k and bluray (hd tv, etc.) your viewing distance is perfect ... some older dvd-content may require to increase the distance (basically for "transferred to disc vhs-content") ... OR ... generally avoiding such outdated material (that's what I do).
Being already closer than the threshold of 11.9' leaves the (individual) decision between increased immersion (closer) or comfort (more distance for less head and/or eye movement).
@@marcuscole8796 Thank you much! This was quite insightful. Immersion is my plan and good processing/upscaling. I appreciate the key learnings above.

Hey friend, is there a guide that explains the correct direction of colors and settings on Android TV, please?
600 Peek Brightnes. How this compares to TCL TVs over 1000 and 2000 Peek Brightnes. Does the picture look better or is there no way Mini Led can be better than Oled and it's pitch Black colors
Test pattern peak brightness, usually less in real scènes to minimize blooming but if not then blooming will be obvious vs OLED. TCL dimming algorythm is mediocre (but haven't read the latest models reviews yet)

Did they fixed the ABL for PC use? I heard the C2 was a pain to use with PC because of this
If you're in SDR I can guarantee C3 won't trigger ABL even if the screen is 100% pure white. I'm using a C3 at the moment set to 4:4:4 passthrough and it's a must! No complains at all, and I'm picky LOL

42" C3 obviously lol
48 inches is better for gaming and movies.
@@Bigtymer781 Oh I know. It's been great so far but long story short, The screen is too big for my room and my eyesight is being affected so I need to downsize. I've heard good chatter about Samsung's QD-OLEDs so I'm thinking about one of those but my safe option is a 42" C3 right now...
What about ABL, is there way to turn it off??
7:41 "and so the LG C2 receives our best in class award" ... did he mean the c3? because a 2022 model tv getting an award in 2023 would be strange indeed
my c3 has color banding and white sub pixel overshoot
Which one is more likely to get burn in Vincent?
I think it would be interesting if you would review the OS these smart TVs have and its ease of use. I feel that that is also very important for the consumers, not only the image quality.
Rather pointless. They are all good enough. There's no point wasting time on that crap. This is an enthusiast channel.
Vincent, pleaseeeee do a 2023 settings video for LG C2 that includes PS5/Xbox Series X. Preferably 55-inch. Thank u. Have a good day/night.
Will there be a C3 PS5 calibration video, or would the settings in C1 PS5 video still be accurate?
Just to confirm, the best in class award was meant for the C2 correct? Not the C3?
@zackhpittman: It's meant for the C3 (which is the subject of this review).
How do you test color depth and color banding? There is image at 5:39
Is there anything you can say about color banding and color depth on LG C3? I think it is important to mention that you will see so bad color banding, that does not even close to 8bit, it much worse that that. Also you will see there worsest gradients in your life, it will be not smooth, it will be as wave pattern, like the tones of the gradients sligtly swapped between its neighbours. This is what I see on my C3 and I have no idea why no one paying attention into it.
How is it going to behave as a computer monitor when comes to safety to eyes? It almost doesnt flicker but is it enough?
Are the lg c3 and g3 still nerfed for 4x3 retro gaming or did they fix the added lag when in this ratio?
Use a retrotink to fix?
@@stephenxs8354 I dont think the retrotink 4k or the morph would solve it but could be wrong.
What’s the sound like?
I still have an older LG OLED C9.
Is it worth updating (also because of gaming?) to the C3?
Personally I have a C9, I wouldn’t. It’s still an amazing TV. I did get a 42in C3 but that replaced my old LCD curved monitor.
Why is the 42" Panasonic TX-42LZW984 OLED better than the two LGs?
Hi guys, there is too mutch difference about Lg c9 to Lg C3 of the last year?
Thaks a lot for help-me
