They deserve a raise and, more importantly, they deserve to BE CREDITED. It's insanely disrespectful to the game designers to not have their names credited in the game!
@@thiagobaptista Your comment really needs to be elevated. In the book-publishing and media-publishing industries, it's considered standard practice to list the authors or actors, respectively. It's only board games where such liberties are taken.
Another amazing teach! Prospero Hall really are next level in their designs and love for each IP. I used to work for an Alfred Hitchcock (a former UK Chief Constable, not the film director). He was always having to convince people he wasn't making his name up and an award I got from him looks fake because of the name! 🙂
This looks awesome! I’m surprised they captured the theme so well. I love the concept of the director might be working with or against you too. Thanks Rodney!
Hi there! Thanks for this informative Video. This was the first time I did not read the rules by myself & followed only your introductions :-). It worked out very well & everybody had a good time playing. Best wishes from germany & stay healthy!
I think it's an open secret that Mysterium was the inspiration. It looks like a streamlined version. I love Mysterium but I like a few if these mechanisms better and I'm a big fan of the film too.
What a fantastic combination of the film material and Cluedo / Mastermind / Wordle mechanics! Looks fantastic. I love the various win conditions too, brilliant
Love Hitchcock! Looks interesting... How about a twisted version of Wingspan for The Birds? Then I'm thinking Psycho or Vertigo could be great source material for a boardgame as well! Too many timeless classics!
I definitely think the clues in this kind of deduction game would work better for our family - which includes neuro diverse players - than the more abstract art of Mysterium and Obscurio. Thanks for the introduction, Would love to add it to my collection
Normally games themed after movies don't interest me, but this looks fantastic. Thanks for the video Rodney! I pre-ordered this the second after watching this video, and I love this movie so that's a huge bonus!
Hi Rodney - I got hold of a copy of Rear Window today and already love it! I do have a couple of queries though, that you might be able to help me with. Firstly - in a Window Phase, can the Director swap an already played Window Card for a new, perhaps more apt, card they have drawn after playing a Cut Token? Secondly - and this might be an English English vs American English (vs French!) thing - I wonder why the designers went for the attribute ‘Gourmand’ - which implies someone is excessively fond of eating and drinking - instead of ‘Gourmet’ - someone who has refined tastes and knows a lot about food and drink? This one doesn’t really effect gameplay apart from most of the food related Window Cards depicting food don’t depict an excessive amount of food.
Rodney, big question. How many years have you been practicing throwing (and spinning!) the box in the air? Or do you take different takes? can we watch the behind the cameras, like, reels?
Prospero hall, as it was known, is no more. The company (funko) was bought out, became a shell company, and all their original designers were let go. This is really bad news as they produced some of the most novel, cheap, and still excellent component games.
My new favorite game. Question, is there a recommended number of purple tiles to play per game? We’ve been playing for weeks now but haven’t ventured into the purple tiles yet. Thx!
I really can't see why you couldn't. It might be that they wanted to ensure that players did have the interaction of more than one guesser, but there is no rules reason why it wouldn't work.
Well maybe it's not aimed at "the kids". I'm 36, a board gamer and I've seen Rear Window plenty plus the parody version in that Simpsons episode where Bart breaks his leg, can't play in the Simpsons' new pool and watches the neighbours then thinks Ned kills Maud. I'm glad it's not based off some new film that may or may not have longevity.
Sorry I know I'm late but I have a question: what's the best indication to the watchers that there's a murder? Is it just that they notice an attribute tile consistently wrong or with misleading clues?
Yep, you’ve got it. And then using some of the special options they have from the characters they can pry about certain results they got to try to suss out if some of the clues are incorrect.
I have for some GMT games. 1960 The Making of the President, Sekigahara and on Twitch we did a full teach and play through of Cuba Libre (www.twitch.tv/videos/1299595197 / www.twitch.tv/videos/1299598428)
I am glad this is not available (that I can see) in Australia right now. I would be past broke haha. Looks like a great game. Reminds me of Deception: Murder in Hong Kong but run with up to 5 players.
I know this states that the game is for 3-5 players, but is it possible to play with only two people? I have some games that state more then 2, but with some refinements 2 players can play the game.
@@speedandstyletony You haven't spent much time in cemeteries, have you? He could hardly put that trunk into a plot of ground scarcely one foot square. Unless, he puts in standing on end --
You could, but the publishers don't feel it provides the full experience (two players working together to solve the clues, and the verbal, out loud conversations that allows the Director to hear), but you COULD do it, technically.
Whoever they have designing games at prospero hall deserves a raise. Their games are way better than they have any right to be.
They often surprise people with what they can do with an IP!

lol, that gave me a good laugh :)
There's a definite Mysterium feel with this one.
I've seen many a game teach by this guy and I am convinced he just might be the very best of them all - well done as usual!
Very kind of you to say Craig - glad you're enjoying!
This looks awesome! I’m surprised they captured the theme so well. I love the concept of the director might be working with or against you too. Thanks Rodney!
This one really took me by surprise - and I like a good surprise!
Hi there! Thanks for this informative Video. This was the first time I did not read the rules by myself & followed only your introductions :-). It worked out very well & everybody had a good time playing. Best wishes from germany & stay healthy!
Greetings back from Canada - very glad to know the video was helpful and that you enjoyed the game!
Risking overgeneralization, this seems like a Hitchcock version of Mysterium. Thanks for the video Rodney!
Thanks for checking it out!
I think this is an accurate summarization if you add "with more communication options". Either way it's accurate!
I think it's an open secret that Mysterium was the inspiration. It looks like a streamlined version. I love Mysterium but I like a few if these mechanisms better and I'm a big fan of the film too.
Love this movie. Normally not excited about games based on movies but might make an exception for this.
I did not know the movie, but playing the game made me watch it!
Mysterium, but a snooping vibe instead of spooky. Nice!
I thought the execution of the theme was very clever.
What a fantastic combination of the film material and Cluedo / Mastermind / Wordle mechanics! Looks fantastic. I love the various win conditions too, brilliant
Glad you enjoyed what you saw!

Wingspan and The Birds would be genius!
You draw…a crow. Ok next turn you draw…a crow. 😂
This will go so well with mixing movies and board games on my channel.I need to grab a copy!
Yep, perfect for that!
I’m watching the movie now and saw that the board game was on sale for 14 dollars. This makes me so excited to play it!
I watched the movie after getting the game :) I hope you have a great time playing!
Awesome explanation of the rules! Thanks for your great work!
Very kind of you to say - glad you enjoyed!
I think I was the first person to watch this. So pumped! 🤪 I love this movie. Gotta buy this.
I hope you have a great time playing!
Thank you. You were so very helpful and I understood perfectly 👍🏻
That's so great to hear - have a wonderful time playing!
Great video - this got us up and running right away. Just played my first game with the family and it was a hit!
So glad you all enjoyed it!

Nice to know this approach would work well for your family. It shows the worth of trying different methods when designing a game.
Your explanations are excellent.
Thank you kindly!
This is the game I am most excited for this summer, so thanks for your coverage of it!
You're very welcome Ben, thanks for checking it out!
Very tempting. Nice escalation on the Detective/Codenames/Mysterium flavour of gaming
It's an interesting take on the genre of game, right?
Thanks as always, Rodney 😊
Have a great time playing!

I think you'll have a good time with it Michael :) Glad you enjoyed!
It's like a combination of Mastermind and Dixit. Looks very interesting!
It reminds me a lot of Mysterium or Obscurio.
OK - so I’m going to have to get this, if only for those screens! They’ve captured the look of the film perfectly 😀
And with an Avatar like yours, you'd know!
Great job as always my good man. I’ll be playing this tomorrow 🪟🔪🪦
I hope you dig it!
That sounds fascinating! Genuinely clever mechanics.
Glad you enjoyed Denis!

1) Nope, once placed, they can't swap the card.
2) No idea on that one :) I guess they wanted to go more for what Gourmand implies than Gourmet?
Rodney even tells you when to close the trunk box 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Rodney, big question. How many years have you been practicing throwing (and spinning!) the box in the air?

Yep, a real shame to be sure.
Such an interesting idea for a game
Great video! Love that movie. The game looks fun.
OHHHH NOOOO....a boardgame based on one of my favorite movies of all time 💸💸💸💸💸

I can't recall if they have a recommendation, but if it were me, I'd maybe do one at first and see how it goes?
Not a huge Mysterium fan, but I am a Hitchcock fan. I'll definitely try and get my hands on a copy of this.
You may enjoy it - let us know if you give it a shot!
looks like a fun game.

I really can't see why you couldn't. It might be that they wanted to ensure that players did have the interaction of more than one guesser, but there is no rules reason why it wouldn't work.
Rear Window! You know the movie that all the kids are talking about this year.
Cant wait to play "the dog's life" or "modern times" the board game.
Coming soon :)
Well maybe it's not aimed at "the kids". Amazing movie, amazing board game!!! wooo
Glad you're excited for this one!
Wonderful! Surprising IP but an interesting looking game!
Right, I was quite surprised!
My favorite Hitchcock movie turned into a fun one. vs many? SOLD.
Very cool when your interest collide, right?
Am i the only one who want the members of this channel to play Mountain of madness? Love to see ppl go insane 😂
Looks fun! I wonder if it works for 2 players
It isn't listed for 2 players but I think it would work just fine. You'd just have less interaction between players.
Rodney, what gaming table are you using in this video?
It's a table from GeekNSon, I go over it here, if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/k3B2WR5Pyrw/v-deo.html
Intriguing!!!!

@Watch It Played cool! Thanks for the quick response man. Great vid, taught me and my family how to play. Been loving the game!
This looks like a very obscure mysterious kind of game
With this video, hopefully a little less obscure :)
How many takes does it normally take you to successfully do the box spin at the beginning of each video?
Are you suggesting it's not on the first attempt?! *gasp*
Death, taxes and people doubting Rodney's box spinning abilities 😂
Nice! 👍
Thanks Lily!
Have you ever done a "how to play" on those GMT games you have on the shelf?
I have for some GMT games. 1960 The Making of the President, Sekigahara and on Twitch we did a full teach and play through of Cuba Libre (www.twitch.tv/videos/1299595197 / www.twitch.tv/videos/1299598428)

You and me both lol
Not available... yet!
Just found a preorder. Yay.
Rodney has created the infinite game shelf. Every time he reviews a game it comes from the same location.
I'm not sharing this technology - I don't think the world is ready for it!
I know this states that the game is for 3-5 players, but is it possible to play with only two people? I have some games that state more then 2, but with some refinements 2 players can play the game.
I don't see why it wouldn't still work with 2 payers.
Before You Play have confirmed they played it at 2 players and it worked fine. I guess it just means there's no discussion.
wait wait wait…a rear window game…how did I miss this!
Surprise!
After the Director puts the extra tiles in the trunk, does he tie it up with a Rope?
No he buries it in the garden!
@@speedandstyletony
You haven't spent much time in cemeteries, have you? He could hardly put that trunk into a plot of ground scarcely one foot square.
Unless, he puts in standing on end --
It would have been sick if elements from other Hitchcock films had features or "cameos" in this game. Btw does alfred have a cameo card in the game?
He puts it the shower then later comes at it with a knife
do you think this can be played by 2 players?
It could be. The publisher doesn't mention that option on the box, because they feel the game works best with the communication between players.
sounds interesting
Thanks for checking it out!
Hitchcock Crime meets Mysterium? I'm intrigued...
Indeed!
This reminds me of Obscurio
Where can I buy this game ?
It will be available in stores soon!
Reminds me of Mysterium.
I hope they have plans for a Simpsons version. Did someone commit a murder? Who over watered Maude's ficus?
Who shot Mr burns
Wow....interesting!!!
Definitely going on our wishlist!!!
Thanks for checking it out!
Dixit meets mystery!

You could, but the publishers don't feel it provides the full experience (two players working together to solve the clues, and the verbal, out loud conversations that allows the Director to hear), but you COULD do it, technically.
You can. It just means there's no discussion phase between the watchers but it has been played 2 player by Before You Play.
