The shot with the sun haloing Daniela's head was done with her being raised about 20 feet off the ground on a camera boom. There were three or four people holding onto her. When the producer proposed the shot her father, Luis, objected, but Daniela said, "Let's go for it." The fire ring was real. Daniela said it was difficult playing in the ring of fire because of the smoke. The "druids" in black carrying the torches were them. They said the torches were real wooden branches and were heavy to carry. The arm with the black oil was their mom, Monica. The wind blew the canopy fabric apart and produced the hung linens affect. The canopy was going to be enclosed. There were flies everywhere and at one point a large yellow wasp landed on Alejandra and she stood still until it flew away. They also ran out of water and Daniela tried using just liquid soap to clean her arms off, but it was just a goopy mess and she said she wanted cry. "Martirio" refers to some one who continually feels sorry for themselves, and the world is against them, even when others attempt to help them. MARTIRIO Original Lyrics: Sometimes the obvious things are the hardest to see You suffocated with your own hands When everything points to someone finally is coming to rescue you You find yourself abandoned again In your martyrdom, drown yourself It's your destiny, give in! You try to find an explanation in the depths of your being And you fall back into the void At last you secretly realize that the pain will stay It'll be your new life of martyrdom There is no turning back anymore You can't escape from the fire at your feet And in the darkness, you'll get lost In your martyrdom, drown yourself It's your destiny, give in! Sometimes the obvious things are the hardest to see In your martyrdom, drown yourself It's your destiny, give in! Learn from those who suffered If there's to live in fear It's better to die in hands of a goodbye Your sad life, foolish martyr say goodbye ¡Oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh, oh! Martirio is one of my favorite songs from The Warning's catalog; such a beautiful piece of music. This video is a damned-near perfect visualization of it, too (in my opinion). One interesting piece of trivia that I've read about that skeletal structure with the billowing white sheets - apparently, it was actually originally a full-on tent for them to use as a shelter from the heat while filming (they filmed it in the Monterrey desert near their home city), but the intense wind tore it to shreds. So they integrated the result into the video :)
Waiting patiently for this one, it’s on of my favourite songs of theirs. Eventually I did look up a translation of the lyrics (after I had learned to “sing” along with it) as usual it’s full of meaningfulness and possibilities for analysis, but hey I just like it!
I really try to refrain from choosing a favorite _The Warning_ song, but if you held a gun to my head and said "Name one!", Martirio would be the song.
This video was shot in the Icamole Desert north of Monterrey, Mexico. It was a windy day and they hadn't anticipated that the fabric tore from the frame. The ring of fire was real. There is a UA-cam video of someone flying a hang glider over the ring weeks later. The women are Dany, Pau, Ale, a cousin, a friend, and their mom. The lyrics are about condemning someone who lives life as a martyr/victim. Martirio = martyrdom. The only TW song with two guitar solos.
Their co-manager, rudy, has worked in the film industry before. I think titanic may have been one movie he worked on. He challenged pau to direct her own music video so she did the mv for que mas quieres.
Real wind and real fire per one of the interviews the video took 11 hrs to shoot and most important they hated the smoke and amounts of dust LOL and yes this song is dark , Martirio means Martyr
Both the song and the video are a masterpiece IMO. Ironically, filming it was a "martyrdom" for them. Hours upon hours of extreme heat and being sandblasted by strong winds. The video turned out beautiful tho.
The basic meaning of the lyrics is that if you choose to live your life as a “martyr” (not necessarily in the sense of dying for some cause), you are wasting your life; in other words it is encouraging emotional resilience. I have never really understood the meaning of what exactly is going on in the video, but TW videos don’t always relate exactly to the lyrics. Enjoyed your reaction and observations! 😎👍

I'm quite sure all they used were camera angles to get the desired reflections in the mirrors. The only post-production effect they used was the slow-mo / sped-up playback effect you noticed right of the bat. For which you have my respect, many reactors miss that. 👍🏻
@@manondereeper Back then they could only dream of the budgets required to use advanced video editing effects. From early on they depended mostly on their creativity and talent. The whole shoot was done in one, long, hot day, they have talked about it in interviews.
The girls said that making that video was very difficult, there was a lot of wind and they had to hide from the dust and the hot breeze, also when Danny was inside the ring of fire 🔥 she said that the heat was terrible
Hi Manon!!... Martyrdom in Spanish is synonymous with suffering... Pau said that making the video was a martyrdom, because they arrived at the desert before dawn and left at midnight... the whole day was spent taking pictures and taking photos, that's why the landscape has different shades... Dany said that the circle of fire made her cry... The three agreed in saying that when they carried the lit torches they were afraid that their costumes would catch fire, and that the wind and the desert dust left their hair stiff... Pau also said that the white sheets hit her in the face... But they were very happy when they saw the finished video... I think they have always worked with this company to make their videos🤘😎🤘
From my understanding of the song, it is about someone who basically revels in their martyrdom. A person who manages to make anything that goes wrong, no matter how big or small, the center point of their existence. The dramatic "Oh look what I have to endure." type of person. The imagery doesn't tie directly to the lyrics, but does create a dramatic feel, and has representations that are often associated with spiritual or mystical things. The fact that they are three sisters is coincidental, but three is often regarded as an important number. The contrast of the young women in white, with the completely cloaked, (older?) women in black. Those in black circling those in white to protect/restrain them. Mirrors are often ascribed powers or importance, as are circles. It is only when they are playing their instruments that we see them clearly. At other times everyone in the video is cloaked or shrouded. While we see The Warnings heads and occasionally hands the rest of them is draped in white cloth. One other things is I don't think it was milky glass that you were seeing them through, I think it was just the white cloth they were cloaked in, pulled tight. In some shots you can tell it isn't opaque, and I think they just had it lit right to allow you to partially see them through it. They are incredible live performers, but also manage to put out amazing music videos.
The song title Martirio means martyrdom in English. It's a song about being suffocated by your own emotions. Im guessing the dark figures represent one's negative emotions surrounding them and not allowing them to escape and be freed from them.
My view of the mirrored sequences is that the dark figures are protecting them and helping them escape from a life of Martyrdom. Although the landscape in the mirrors doesn't exactly line up with the background scene, I see a sort of "through the looking glass" concept where they can pass into some sort of alternate reality. Once on the other side and the mirror is broken, they can leave the past behind. A little far fetched, but they always enjoy their fans interpretations of their music and videos....:)
in the OMV, the covering over the building frame was not supposed to be shredded... it was assembled whole but the winds had other ideas so DPA/TW and the team decided not to fight it... the flapping canvas makes for a nice atmosphere and works pretty well for this for the video and what the song represents... this is not the first time they've had to deal with the winds, either... one or two of their other MVs that were shot outside were also on windy days... their Foo Fighters cover of *The Pretender* comes to mind... there were also comments about how the blowing sand stung and caused them to feel like they had a sunburn... they did a great and professional job, that's for sure 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
