Due to many people constantly asks me about the 'upholstery yellow glue' used in my upholstery projects I decided to record and edit an informative related video.
I hope you find it useful! If some doubts or questions, please, feel free to ask!

I just want to make a quick but I feel important comment about a very good glue available within the USA.
Dap Weldwood Landau Top and Trim (light blue can label). HHR Spray Grade Industrial Professional.
You cannot get this at home depot.
To me this is the only glue to trust for a no comeback job that I have used.
I suggest the 5 gallon container and transfer it to small containers for use or into a gun.
Harbor freight has acid brushes for 30+ packs and larger 1 inch and etc brushes for very cheap. Less than ten dollars buys you over 60 brushes small maybe 0.75 to 1cm and larger sizes, I like 1 inch or about 2.5cm.

Etc I believe all those glues will fail on hot days etc after a few years or months.
Harbor freight also has a $21 siphon feed 1.8mm tip 1 liter / 1 quart or so gun that is cheap enough to simply throw it away after a few big covering headliner panel jobs. Note it will probably be cleanable but you will always incur some cost.

I almost think it would be best to fill the gun at least 50% full and it does stay liquid and right when sealed up for a looong time. Maybe someone else here can help suggest a good cleaning tip as $21 a gun isn't expensive but it isn't cheap.
Anyway, the dap landau glue is the absolute best glue I have ever used for strength and it is workable brushable and reliable. Stinky tho, prolonged exposure I'd wear a respirator.
I am just a hobbyist who only has experience wrapping headliner panels and pillars. No real upholstery like Checaflo.
I would love to become a master like Checaflo. I love his videos. But that glue I think is the best. A little goes a long way if you just need to "dry tack" some touch up areas inside a car. Or rubber seal.
Be careful with fresh wet glue as it will bleed through. A dryer coat of glue on your brush will not bleed through and will stick really well. You'll see.
The dap landau glue is not extremely snotty like Wurth Rubber Glue ($35 for a dinky lite jar but it has its place)
I had a rear spoiler job to do, 85 bmw 635 rubber spoiler.
I used wurth rubber glue, maybe a little aged but still very fluid and good. Maybe I didn't use enough but whatever. The job failed. Of course I offered to redo it and I decided to use the dap the 2nd time around (I actually didn't have it at the time, was at home actually) and after using the dap it has been perfect since in rain and sun. It's a factory glued down soft rubber spoiler with some integrated bolts that snug up to the trunk lid. The dap glue works great and I think for glue down weatherstripping it would be great to coat one side and let it dry and then if you need to have some workability you can just slap on a wet coat and quickly aplly the pre glued but dry to the touch component (example, trunk seal channel has 2 coats, a dry coat and then possibly a 2nd wet coat just before installing the applied and dry trunk rubber itself).
I haven't done that but I expect it would give the rubber seal some good workability before it sets up to really get the seal factory perfect. This is where that wurth glue is also very good, for body rubber and etc.
Anyway dap pretty much makes wurth rubber glue obsolete for me. I'm still mad I lost my can of Wueth rubber glue. It's gotta be around but it was new and 99% full... Anyway good luck gluers. That dap weldwood landau glue is fabulous.

Im no pro but i got a extremely snoty glue it is tpo roofing glue solvent base 5 gallon 120 bucks from roofing stores, I put in large pickle jars and brush it on. cheers

The 'solvent based yellow glue' is a traditional adhesive or contact cement used in car upholstery and furniture.
After spreading over both surfaces to attach let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes until it is not sticky to your fingers.

Did my first upholstery job today. Let me tell you, first time is much difficult compared to watching videos! Did the work in the balcony in the sun 30 C and the glue became like chewing gum, you need to only put a little in the tip of the brush and do it again and again, very frustrating. Also I used a lot of glue, almost finished a 820ml can with just one trunk bottom covering. I have two more panels to do, the trunk sides. It was very difficult because I decided to reuse the old material which has shrunk a little in the washing machine (couldn't find matching material). The glue I used is like in the video, formica glue light yellow. Thank you Cechaflo for all the videos!
Would you like some tips from a professional car upholsterer ?
1 . Never ever use a brush or a paint scraper as you'll never get it even and you can only use the brush once then throw it away. Instead use the plastic card intended for applying body filler , they are flexible , you can work the glue deep into the surface and easily cleaned ( mine last for years ) .
2 . Only buy glue from professional auto upholstery suppliers and specify a heat resistant type. It won't cost much more and as cars get baked inside most other glues easily fail .
3 . Spray glue of any type is never as good as spreadable glue. Ok for some jobs but only buy trade quality in cans as the guns just gum up . Once again go for heat resistant.
4. Can speed up process with a heat gun ( also useful for simultaneously softening vinyl ready for stretching into areas) but need to be incredibly careful not to over heat and damage anything . Heat gun releases the thinning agent in the glue.

I bought new headliner material and removed my headliner and removed the old fabric and foam. I purchased the 3M super 77 adhesive for fabric. Applied it to the headliner board and to the back of the fabric and let it tack up. Re installed head liner and two days later its sagging now. What should I do to fix this?
Hello , I have some questions.First,if we forget the adhesive lid open and if it gets gummy is there any way to turn it to its original shape.May be by adding thinner or acetone ? My second question is how to clean it from our hands ? The last question is if we bond plastic to leather , how we can take it apart later.Thank you.

If everyone else was struggling to know which glue to use I found out that the Dap Original Contact Cement had a better service temperature than the other glues mentioned in the comments.
According to the technical data sheet the service temperature is -40 to 180 degrees F. This should cover the needs of just about any hobbyist out there. It is easy to brush on and you can reposition it as long as you don't use firm pressure. If you need to thin it to make it sprayable acetone should work but they also make a thinner specifically for it.
It is also available in quart sizes instead of gallon which makes it a great option for smaller projects. Not to mention you can get it at home depot and lowes.
I'd like to add that the Landau top adhesive has a service temperature of 0 to 150 deg. F.

Estimado Lázaro,Si le sirve el Peavoch para aplicar con pistola. La aplicación es mas pareja y el método mas práctico. Con brocha también funciona, pero sería un poco mas tardado y no tan práctico. Le recomiendo haga algunas pruebas para calcular con mas precisión su tiempo de secado previo antes de pegar las piezas.
Esos prudoctos de cola valen para pegas techos de coche. Y cual de estos pruductos lo ve comviniente para aplicarlo en los techos . gracias comandante🙋♂️

Para los techos se recomienda el pegamento que es muy fluido y se aplica con la pistola de aplicar pegamento.

It is important to note that if you use a respirator(and it IS recommended to use one if gluing large amounts), to use a respirator with the correct filter installed. A simple dust filter will not filter out vapors or fumes, you must use a filter designed for that specifically. Most filters will let the harmful vapors through quite easily.
You are right! we have to use the appropriate mask...it is very important to take care of our health.
Enough glue vapors will suffocate you.

Hola César, Tengo una pregunta por favor, para hacer un revestimiento en un reposabrazos del coche, tengo Sky y un reposabrazos de plástico blando lijar por supuesto, y entonces mi pregunta se refiere a la cola. En Francia, los pegamentos que tengo son Bostik 1400 gel (el pegamento es amarillo) o Soudal 180 AQ (el pegamento es azul) o ninguno de los dos? ¿Cuál recomienda para este revestimiento?

Para áreas muy grandes como el 'cielo interior de un carro' el aplicar pegamento con pistola facilitaría el trabajo y quedaría mucho mejor. Para superficies angostas o áreas pequeñas con una brocha es suficiente.
Para el tablero podríamos utilizar ambos métodos. La pistola ayuda mucho para pasar pegamento con rapidez pero implica comprar una buena compresora y una buena pistola de succión. Si hay posibilidades, está bien comprar un equipo, pero si voy a utilizarlo una sola vez y luego tener que buscar donde poner el equipo para que no estorbe, creo que no conviene.
La pistola distribuye el pegamento mas parejo, pero si la área no es muy grande con una buena brocha que no se le salgan las cerdas, podemos lograr una cubierta de pegamento muy pareja. La decisión tendría que tomarla Ud.

Caesar, what do you use to clean your brush? Acetone? It always looks new and that brush doesn't look cheap.
Hello John, I forgot to mention in the video, sorry. To keep the brushes clean they are submerged in a glass container with 'industrial thinner' (bristles part). And, I am always rubbing off glue residues.

Hey im working on re doing the foam on my car seat. i was wondering if there was a spray can glue i could use. Im able to find headliner glue from 3m and permatex . Im just not sure if this is strong enough or even OK for foam. I can find regular dap contact cement and also locktite spray on high performance 200 adhesive, but not sure it it would hold up to heat in the car. also locktite 300 spray says water and heat resistant but not sure if it would eat up the foam. If you could recommend anything that i could buy from a local store like homedepot or lowes, even walmart id appreciate it ! Thanks

Será también muy interesante ver en el siguiente vídeo cómo utiliza la pistola de aire con el pegamento. Yo utilizo el mismo pegamento para aplicarlo a brocha, y cuando quiero hacerlo con la pistola lo rebajo mucho con un disolvente que disuelve muy bien el pegamento y cuando he terminado de aplicarlo, después de limpiar bien el depósito de pegamento, echo disolvente en la pistola y se queda limpia sin necesidad de desmontarla 👍👍

Tal vez sea posible nos pueda compartir la marca de pegamento/cola de contacto que utiliza en España. Le entendí bien que este pegamento lo aplica con brocha y si desea aplicarlo con pistola, lo adelgaza con un disolvente. Supongo que este disolvente es compatible con esta marca de pegamento. La pistola que Ud. utiliza para aplicar pegamento de que medida es el diámetro del orificio por donde expulsa el pegamento.
Encontré en internet un link de un proveedor de algunos artículos para tapicería y zapatería en la ciudad de Toledo:

Tiene muy buenos productos, si bien el precio no es de los más económicos, pero aquí en España, al contrario que en Estados Unidos, o tal vez México, no hay muchos sitios donde vendan suministros de tapicería, así que no hay mucha competencia para ofrecer el precio más bajo... 😉
En relación a la pistola que utilizo para el pegamento, es una pistola convencional de pintura que compré en Estados Unidos, en Harbor Freight, con referencia/item 92126, y se llama "adjustable mimi detail spray gun".
La pistola es toda metálica, incluyendo el vaso donde se vierte la pintura, y como no le daba utilidad para pintar pensé en probarla con la cola de contacto, una vez rebajada convenientemente con el disolvente o lacquer thinner.
Probé creyendo que no funcionaría, y pulveriza el pegamento muy bien! No lo hace tan bien como una pistola específica, con el orificio de más diámetro, pero hasta ahora me ha venido muy bien para todas las veces que me ha hecho falta pulverizar cola de contacto. La pulverización no es perfecta, y en alguna ocasión sale un poquitín más estrecha en lugar de tan ancha como gustaría, pero de momento me voy defendiendo con ella.
La cola de contacto es marca RAYT / NOVOPREN Super, y el disolvente es marca Montó Universal 1405.
Descubrí que este disolvente le venía muy bien a la cola porque cuando utilizaba el disolvente que compraba habitualmente, el más económico, no disolvía muy bien la cola de contacto y hacía falta darle muchísimas vueltas pero nunca la dejaba perfecta, y para limpiar el pincel tampoco quedaba perfecto...
Compré este disolvente por casualidad, por probar uno diferente, y me quedé alucinado!!! Si se echa el disolvente a la cola de contacto, no hace falta prácticamente removerlo para que la diluya perfectamente, y si limpiamos la cola de contacto con el disolvente deja los pinceles como si estuviesen recién comprados y la pistola la deja sin un solo residuo... una maravilla!!
Me animé a probar la cola de contacto en la pistola cuando descubrí este disolvente, porque con otros disolventes no habría sido capaz de pulverizar bien la cola y mucho menos de limpiar la pistola al terminar el trabajo...
Menos mal que estoy escribiendo esto con el teléfono móvil usando la voz, porque si hubiese tenido que teclearlo me habría costado mucho!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Muchas gracias por la información tan detallada, que seguro que será muy útil para los aficionados europeos y especialmente españoles, y solo añadir dos cosas:
Cuando limpio la pistola de pintura con disolvente, para no perder el disolvente y evitar contaminación, lo pulverizo dentro de la lata, que es la de 5 litros con tapón plástico a rosca, y de este modo viene bien para que ese disolvente ayude a que la cola de contacto no espese mucho 👍👍
Con respecto a mi pistola, si la boquilla es de 0,6 mm eso explica que pulverice muy fino... en comparación con la pistola de la tienda española que usted puso ayer, cuya boquilla es de 2,5 mm, la diferencia es bestial!!!!! Seguro que ese tipo de pistolas pulverizan de modo adecuado la cola... tal vez en el futuro haga una nueva adquisición para mejorar la pulverización!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

Si sería necesario una boquilla grande para pulverizar el pegamento de manera natural.
Según los fabricantes no deberíamos adelgazar el pegamento. Le envío un boletín técnico del adhesivo DAP- Landau muy usado por la gran mayoría de tapiceros automotrices en USA:

How do you store your glue after using it? I opened my dap weld wood glue one day and then didn’t use it for another 2 weeks and it was dried up. How can I avoid that? Thank you.
I have realized these glues last longer than two weeks. It should be stored in well ventilated area. We should not placed it under the sunrays. The cap of the container should be well tightened. The solvent evaporates easily if it is not well tightened.

Should I remove headliner and pull fabric back and use a liquid glue and apply it with a brush to the headliner board only?
I suppose the 'new headliner' is thoroughly loose. Then it will be necessary to remove it again and start reglueing again both surfaces using the same 3M77
Try to manipulate the headliner material very careful to not form folds or creases.
Sometimes, it is necessary a 2 time application. The first coat is useful as a primer to get a better adherence for second coat.
If you want to use the method of applying dense glue over the cardboard could work out. The pasting should be dense and while still 'wet' stick the 'headliner material' over. It should be done in areas little by little taking care of not pressing the material too much because the glue could permeate through the foam to fabric on top.

Cechaflo, can these glues be used to glue carpet onto vinyl already glued to a car's interior?
Glue carpet to vinyl is possible. Use masking tape to mark as border line and not let the glue pass over. The glue should be spread on both surfaces vinyl and carpet. For a better adhesion let the first coat dry well and then apply the second coat. After 10 minutes approx. do the sticking process.
Maestro saludos desde Puerto Rico!!!! La pega de contacto que se utiliza para los laminados en la ebanisteria que es para pistola funciona para reparar los "headliners"? es que la pega en spray 3M encuentro que esta a sobre precio
Si tengo conocimiento que el pegamento que se usa con pistola para los laminados como la formica sirven para pegar los cielos de los carros.
El pegamento spray 3M no es muy recomendable porque se llega a despegar en corto tiempo.

Para limpiar los pinceles dejo remojando las puntas con las cerdas en thinner o acetona en un frasco de vidrio. Ambos líquidos funcionan muy bien. Cada vez que pasemos pegamento con el pincel hay que limpiar inmediatamente con un pedazo de vinil, cuero o un trapo.

Disculpe, tengo un pegamento vl200 pero esta un poco viscoso como para usarlo con brocha o pincel. Hay alguna manera de adelgazarlo un poco?
Es el pegamento amarillo VL2000. Desconozco que solvente puede adelgazarlo. Supuestamente el thinner. Si va a ocuparlo en algún proyecto delicado es mejor comprar uno nuevo.

Buenos dias maestro cesar, ya vi que el resistol que muestra usted que se usa con pistola es como mas liquida y si no hay ese pegamento aqui endonde vivo como puedo preparar el resistol 5000 para usarlo con pistola o que liquido le agrego para poder usarlo o aplicarlo con pistola? El 5000 viene muy fluido como para aplcar directamente con pistola. No conozco si tiene un diluyente compatible.
Hola, que pistola recomiendas para aplicar pegament peavoch, yo hago trabajos en lanchas, pegando alfombra marina, actualmente tengo una pistola goni con boquilla 3.0, el problema que tengo es que el abanico avienta el pegamente para cualquier lado y no se tiene control de donde aplicar, en lugares precisos
Con respecto a la pistola Goni, yo también uso de esa marca con la boquilla 3.0 que es la comercial. Solamente que la suya haya salido con defecto de fábrica. Cuando sucede ese problema, pueda ser que requiera limpieza, algo anda obstruyendo la pasada del pegamento.
la pistola la uso desde hace 4 años, esta limpia, pero si cierro la perilla del abanico, no sale pegamento y no tiene presion, que otra me podrias recomendar @@Cechaflo
@@jesusnavarro6429 Lamentablemente no conozco de marcas para recomendar. Hay una tienda que conoci en Guadalajara, son los especialistas en pistolas y compresoras para aplicar pegamento y pintar . Con suerte si los contacta le pueden ayudar. (por cierto la Goni, ya la había comprado en otra tienda)

It is polyurethane glue. After the application it dries in a few minutes but the longer it dries the better adhesion. Shoemakers recommend to leave it until the next day.

Hello , I have some questions.First,if we forget the adhesive lid open and if it gets gummy is there any way to turn it to its original shape.May be by adding thinner or acetone ? My second question is how to clean it from our hands ? The last question is if we bond plastic to leather , how we can take it apart later.Thank you.
1. I am not fond of thinning the yellow glues. I'd rather buy a new can or bottle Personal opinion).
But, I am conscious these glues could be thinned with a compatible liquid. I do not know if it would have the same efficacy.
2. Acetone is good to clean the hands with a rag. Some water and soap afterwards.
3. The only way I have used is pull from an end and peel off little by little. If the plastic is bonded to the right side of leather the pigment and sealer peels off. Unless, it is a plasticized leather. If I unglue a plastic from the suede side of leather it rips out the hair leaving an uneven surface.
If I do this, I do not use this material anymore.

I would like to see what happens when you pull up the material, to see if all the glue ends up on both the vinyl side of the door panel, as well as on the material itself. Are you planning a follow up video. There should be glue on both surfaces if it is working correctly. It is definitely a problem trying to glue to plastic door panels. Jerry
You are right the yellow glue should be adhered to both surfaces to get the best adherence after a thorough drying process. Some plastics are kind of 'oily' and found on car dashboards, panels, etc. In this case, it is advisable to softly sand the overall surface to erase that luster in oder to get a better adherence of yellow glue. It also would be advisable the application of a first coat of glue as a primer then apply the second coat after it is thoroughly dry.
In the worst case scenario, polyurethane transparent glues work out good in case of 'difficult' plastic surfaces. Shoemakers use it to glue down tennis shoes.

El 5000 pega bien fuerte y despide olor de solvente muy fuerte que puede marear; hay que tener cuidado y usar la máscara con filtro para respirar.
En el siguiente video que ya se está elaborando daremos alguna ilustración acerca del pegamento para pistola.

Hello, They are harmful if we are exposed to vapors/fumes for a long time. If the area is short no problem. The bottles should be placed aside not in front of us and after application we should close the cap and retire from that area. It is advisable to apply glue in a well ventilated area.
Too long exposition to glue fumes could cause dizzines.
The masks are useful if we are going to be exposed for longer times.

I mostly use the traditional upholstery yellow glue. But, I am still testing the polyurethane glue to automotive upholstery. I have realized some factories use this kind of heat activated glue.
Trade marks are different in each country. I am located in Mexico. What for sure I know is these glues are applied in the shoemaking industry, including tennis shoes.

There are different trademarks in each country. The only similarity is al these polyurethane glues (heat activated) are mostly used in the shoemaking industry.

En Francia, los pegamentos que tengo son Bostik 1400 gel (el pegamento es amarillo) o Soudal 180 AQ (el pegamento es azul) o ninguno de los dos? ¿Cuál recomienda para este revestimiento?
Me encuentro localizado en Mexico y las marcas de pegamento son diferentes. Pero podría darle una idea al respecto. Me parece que el pegamento amarillo Bostik 1400 de neopreno puede ser útil para el trabajo de tapicería.
