Theirs Hugh jackman, Ryan reynolds, and Robert Downey Jr. But the most consistent and best guy to play one of the greatest superheros will forever be Kevin Conroy.

The Pure best Voice for Batman, and the most intriguing and perfect incarnation of the Dark Knight ever. Thank You So Much Mr. Kevin Conroy for giving this character so much amazing depth and storylines. You are BATMAN!
I disagree with superman not having any issues. I used to feel the same way about superman, but when you think of how you'd feel of you were literally the last living human who was raised by a race alien to your own. You've got these powers so you feel like you're called to protect them. Some love you some hate you. You've got enemies from all over the galaxy and a public school education. You've got a woman who you love but whom is so fragile compared to yourself. You're utterly alone with the world on your shoulders and yes you're bulletproof, strong and have Lazer eyes and frost breath and super speed BUT even with all that sometimes it's barely enough to save the day. So in my older age now I have a deeper respect for superman. It's like being a father and husband to the world. You give it your all to protect and provide and sacrifice much. It's a hard concept to grasp finding out you're an adopted orphan for one is part of it... but to find out your entire planet was destroyed no one can truly identify with that... save perhaps surviving a nuclear explosion... and even then not everyone in the world is gone. So he's pretty complex.
You're right on the head. I used to like Batman more as a child because he was "cooler", but as I got older and my responsibilities increased things changed. My awareness of how my attitude and actions affected others became more apparent; I suffered more direct consequences because of missteps and I came to the harrowing conclusion that I was in charge of my life. That made me realize how powerful I was and the responsibility I had to a larger community. I think Superman portrays that better than Batman.
That is a great point! I am reading a lot of Superman’s early stuff, and it is still a surprisingly interesting read. This is because Superman acts as more of a karmic force than a traditional modern superhero.
I’d argue that Supermans humble attitude and way of thinking is what makes him such an inspiring and relatable character. Sure he’s not the guy with 1000 issues but he isn’t the luckiest man either the dude lost his father, moved to a big city and is trying to make a better life for everyone. Also I think it’s odd he likes the Snyder Superman like sure he’s gritty but that’s not who Superman is at his core he’s not some guy who’ll break buildings in half killing more people than saving, he’s the type of guy to stop and help a kid fix his bike or walk an old lady across the street.
the thing I like about MoS is that it showed us Clark's struggles and hardships when he was growing up like with fitting in, being alienated, hiding his powers, fearing that the world won't accept and also struggles about his real parents. I also like how he took a break just to explore the world and figure some shit out for himself, It kind of showed us that it wasn't always just sunshine and rainbows. It kind of humanised him and imo made him less boring and made him more related for me. I would like if Snyder could've just added fighting through all that struggles and hardships and having the strength to end up happy and hopeful becuase of what he's experienced. Pain, suffering, hardships and struggles is an important part of being human, Clark experiencing all of that makes him less of a god and more of a human who's as vulnerable as every one of us. As someone once told me, "a person who has experienced the most pain and suffering will experience the most joy and happiness." Sometimes understanding pain will lead you to what happiness truly is, but that also doesn't mean you should stay in the pain.
You get it. I also want to add that Superman experiences human problems just like us. Not everything can be solved with heat vision and super strength. Anyone who's read a Superman comic knows that the best Superman stories aren't about him fighting villains, it's the ones about his humanity.
@@Blazko877 I mean don’t get me wrong man of steel definitely had some good aspects and I like cavill in the role but it definitely wasn’t the best depiction of the character and honestly I was really hoping he’d be more accurate in the sequel but instead BvS doubled down on a more dour Superman story which it really didn’t need to be and it also divided the fanbase.
@@LorianandLothric exactly bro. One of my favorites is all star Superman just cause of how it shows his human side and coming to terms with his incoming death from radiation exposure. "I feel so lucky, I mean this is the first animated role I ever auditioned for. I got the brass ring! Everyone's always asks what other superhero would you like to play?" Are you kidding? What other super heros is there? I got the best one!" -Kevin Conroy RIP Batman
Superman does good because he believes in good. Batman does good because he believes in evil. Superman, as powerful as he is, is naive. Batman knows the darkness that lurks in people and does not trust it.
Yeah but wouldn’t one say that something Batman learns is that there is good in people and they just have to have gone down the right path for them to be successful with an example being dick grayson.

I know he'll probably never see this comment in particular, but I hope Kevin really understands how much of an impact he had for my generation. He's the definitive Batman, and his voice is incredible.
The reason I always prefer Batman over Superman, is because Batman is flawed, while Superman is unrealistically perfect. Batman has no super powers, and has to rely on his intelligence, martial arts and gadgets to beat enemies. While Superman has no equal. He can one-shot everything with little to no effort, and has one weakness he can't fight against: Kryptonite.
A character like Superman is hard to get right. If done wrong, then all of the things Kevin Conroy said are correct. Obviously when done right, Superman is a very complex character, it's just hard to do. I still prefer Batman though.

Don't get me wrong I love Kevin Conroy but he clearly hasn't read All-Star Superman because he would not be saying superman is boring. The movies made him boring not the comics. Movies are just more popular, there for the general publics consensus is superman is boring
I adore Conroy, but I couldn’t disagree more. And part of the reason why DC keeps on misrepresenting Superman is because they don’t see further than their noses and think that “Superman’s boring”. It kinda stings me a bit that Conroy sees it that way as well. It’s a real shame because right now the spirit of the character is being kept alive by the fans (and the fans only) and they being pushed away by DC. Superman is a wonderful and transcendent character that could be utilised to tell great stories. Of course that is impossible by people who do not understand the character and think he is omnipotent and boring.
Kevin could only give his genuine experience and perspective. I agree that there is more to Superman, but you can do that to any character, add more....but overall, Superman is boring. Though Clark Kent is far more boring. Superman's almost at the point of being Captain Marvel who's problem is Marvel is like she can do everything and can't be stopped. BORING. Superman only gets interesting when he's brainwashed or red kyrptonite changes him or such. Otherwise it's just the boy scout of America! lol
I would argue his challenge is his emotion. He knows that even with all of his powers, he cannot save everyone, even though the way he was raised, he wants to try. But in doing so, he effectively has to decide who lives and who dies
@@brendan7704 now imagine all those you mentioned that can fly or run at lightspeed, whilst Batman cannot be everywhere at once and stil has to witness puny murders and crime on the daily and still he cant do much about it or even prevent certain situations.

Abdul Shah Superman is a straight up normal guy who happens to have superpowers. He was raised by farmers and didn’t adopt a superhero mindset until he graduated, Read a fucking Superman comic, my guy.
I believe Batman and Superman represent different ideals of being a superhero. One inspires hope, the other fear. Those who hope in them are not afraid of them; those who fear them, eagerly hope to destroy them, but history has shown time and again that neither men can be taken down so easily. I believe both are amazing characters in their own right and I feel very uncomfortable when people make a fuss about who is better.
But supe got this constant pressure of meeting everyone's expectations, he can't fuck up , one single mistake people will just tear him down ( it's a metaphor ,not physically) ,he always has to be a perfect symbol of hope. Obviously bats is really a complex character and bats being human thats what makes him more favourable than Supes . And he is a badass.
@@KhanhNguyen-mh5ec Honestly none. And still he's more interesting to me because he has to fulfill his own unreachable expectations, facing a progressively darker city ready to overcompensate his generosity with cruelty and pure hatred. His relationship with Gotham's villains is so rich and much more philosophical as it explores the nature of good and evil and our inclination towards each. There's also the fact that he's slightly more relatable than some op alien

This is the second reason that Conroy is the best actor ever to play Batman. The first reason, of course, is that he has the perfect voice for Batman and the acting talent required to use it effectively. But the second reason is that he GETS Batman. He really understands the character.

He means human problems. Superman has problems & issues, but you can't relate to them because he's basically an immortal being that has no _earthly_ means to eliminate him, so any problems he has relate to things that your average Joe can't say "I've been there" to, whereas Batman is driven by grief. _Real_ grief. Yeah, Supes lost his planet, but any grief he feels is just the grief of not knowing what he lost rather than having something & then losing it, & he's not the "last son of Krypton." There's Supergirl, Powergirl, Zod, Superboy, the list goes on.
@@elwoodjacobs4353 Superman has many human problems he was raised as a human the only problems he tends not to have are physical like getting shot which most people can't relate to either. Clark Kent is more or less a normal guy if anything Bruce is far from the realm of reliability with him being a multi billionaire. He doesn't get walked over by people like Clark, he doesn't struggle with romantic relationships like Clark. he's literally handed gourmet food by his personal butler seems far less relatable than a geeky reporter who's secretly stronger than everyone else.
@@pillowboy7995 But Superman doesn't have to choose his life's situation. He could literally do anything he wants & rise to any level. He only chooses to be Clark Kent. He doesn't have to be. He could just save people as Clark Kent & nobody could stop him. Yes, he was raised by humans, but in his adult life, there's no reason to continue the disguise. He can own the fact that he's an alien. Batman is stuck where he is. He doesn't have any powers, so he has to deal with the hand he's given. He couldn't do what he does a Bruce Wayne 'cuz they'd throw him in the slammer, which is why he invented Batman. Also, he doesn't have the potential or power to literally do anything he wants. All he has is his company & Batman. He couldn't take over the world if he wanted to. He couldn't _destroy_ the world if he wanted to. Superman can. Also, Wealth has nothing to do with relatability. Just because someone has a million bucks doesn't mean that they magically stop being human & have no emotions or problems.
@@elwoodjacobs4353 Why would Superman embrace being an alien instead of Clark if that wasn't who he was raised to be If I wanted to I could become a jewel thief but I won't do that because I wasn't raised with those immoral values. A great quote from the Lois and Clark miniseries is "Clark Kent is who I am Superman is what I can do." He wouldn't rise to the top and become a god because that's not who he is just like how your average joe wouldn't sell drugs and potentially make more money because that's not who they are. Bruce has to deal with the hand he's given yes but might I add it's a great hand he's immediately born with genius level intellect immediately born to the owner of corporations and one of the biggest figure heads in Gotham the whole reason Bruce can even attempt to become Batman is because of his money that's why although stated jokingly money being batman's superpower is the truth. And just because he can't destroy the world doesn't mean he has to be Batman he could easily be a scumbag like lex luthor or just something other than the bat. Also Bruce being a billionaire doesn't immediately make him not relatable but it is a huge divide from the character and audience same way Clarks powers are I'd argue more so because it actively affects his personal life and not just his crime fighting business. Bruce Wayne's personal issues are typically incredibly complex and unless you've been through the trauma he has you're just not gonna really click with it and just call it angsty.

As a Batman fan, I too used to think Superman was a bit boring and had similar thinking, but then I actually got to know the character and my views changed dramatically. To me, the inspiring thing about Superman was not the fact that he is so powerful. Rather, it's the fact that it's so easy for him to abuse his powers yet he doesn't. He could get his way easily but chooses not to. Yes, he's super strong/fast/etc. but at his core he just wants to be the simple farm boy from Smallville. He takes on the responsibility of being a symbol for the greater good of humanity even though he'd prefer just being simple Clark Kent from Smallville. Where Batman is the ordinary man who rises above to become extraordinary, Superman is the extraordinary being who just wants to be ordinary. He is also very flawed; which makes him so relatable and human. Yes, he can fly and is super strong and more, but despite all of that he is very vulnerable. He's just one disaster away from being a terrifying tyrant. His good hearted nature, patience, etc. are his true powers while his power is a double edged sword. I truly feel that many people only see one very superficial/stereotyped portrayal of Superman, and it's warped their view on the character (maybe because of the old movies with C. Reeves?). I can't help but think that if you only saw Batman portrayed as he sometimes is; like being able to solve everything (Worlds Greatest Detective), always having a solution, having everything under the sun in his utility belt, master of every skill, etc. you'd probably also have a similar view of the character. But that's just my two cents worth...
I actually respectfully disagree, superman has all the power in the world and he still chooses the good side. The older u get the more u understand what a great super hero he is
"He overcomes all his problems, and he has no superpowers. Thats what the fans love about him". Yeah, but as I've gotten older, I realized that gets boring really fast. Sometimes its better when the good guy loses, because it makes for an interesting story. Sure, Superman has powers, but he does face issues like the rest of us that even he can't overcome, even with his abilities. That's what makes him interesting. You can relate, but also can't relate to him at the same time (Problems? Yes. Powers? No). Thats one thing that drives fans of both of them apart: the powerless is actually the most powerful, and the almost completely powerful isn't as powerful as they think. Try arguing that with Batman fans (I know I've tried), and it becomes like this: "He is Batman" "Yeah, but-" "He, is, Batman" "Yeah, but Batman can't-" "He is the Batman" "Its doesn't make any sense how he-" "Because he's Batman" "No, he shouldn't, because logically-" "He's the God damn Batman". I will admit, I've been a fan of Kevin Conroy as Batman for 30 years now, and Tim Daly as Superman for 26 years, and they both nailed their roles perfectly. George Newbern, as good as he is, is no Tim Daly.
He's right about all of that. But, if you want to see a well-written version of Superman, then watch the Smallville TV series because they actually made his character interesting there. He's not an unbeatable guy, he's a trouble teenager trying to grow up being different from everyone else on the planet. It's honestly great!
@@lukerne9260 Okay, well I understand that's your opinion. But objectively, from a writing perspective, it was a really solid show. The escalation was steady, the character development was good for most of the characters (although I admit some of them, like Lana, were lacking), and it did a good job of humanizing Superman - which is the point of his character.
Kevin Conroy is great but, like so many, he's never really thought 2 minutes about what it would be to have the greatest powers and a heart of gold - the greatest responsibility would be the greatest burden of all.
To me the fact that Superman is so overpowered is what makes him the best superhero. This is just my opinion and I'm not going to argue with others that feel different. With all that power, more power than any other superhero, what does he do with it? He uses it help as many people as he can. He uses it to serve and inspire. He might not be the most interesting character, but he is the one that we should all aspire to be. We will never have his power, but the power we have we can use to help others.
that's a good way of putting it. Superman has said before that he constantly feels like he lives in a world made of cardboard, always trying his best not to lose control or someone could die. one man having that much power, it would make sense for him to become a dictator. but he chooses to be good and help people.
I do think that Batman is a cooler superhero compared to Superman, but Superman’s world of cardboard speech is a great distillation of his nobility and since of responsibility to the world around him. And stories like Red Son have shown it is possible to make Superman a multi-layered, complicated character without sacrificing key elements of his character. It’s just that Superman doesn’t often get written that way.
“As you know, I’m quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book, not particularly well-drawn, but the mythology. The mythology is not only great, it’s unique. Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there’s the superhero and there’s the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he’s Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man, and it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn’t become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he’s Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red S, that’s the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears; the glasses, the business suit… that’s the costume. That’s the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us, and what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He’s weak, he’s unsure of himself, he’s a coward. Clark Kent is Superman’s critique on the whole human race". - Bill's monologue from Kill Bill 2
The episode that made me grow to like Superman was The Man Who Has Everything. That episode showed the issues and pain I knew Superman had but we hadn't seen yet.
Super Batman fan here (specially of TAS). Precisely the reason I love Batman is because he overcomes everything as a human (to oversimplify it), and for then longest I disliked Superman precisely because he is too OP. But I need to admit, I have come too appreciate him a lot for the total opposite reason of Batman... he's biggest challenge is to contain himself, when he could just obliterate everything... and I think that is super interesting and formidable as well. Still, Batman will always be at top for me.
He is definitely not lucky, he's talented. When people think of Batman's voice they either think of the over the top Christian Bale voice or Kevin's PERFECT voice
It's great seeing how much he still seems to appreciate having played the character, even if this is a few years ago now. Some people regardless of how lucky they may have thought they were originally can become jaded.
I like you Kevin but Superman is not as boring as you think. You're saying that because of his powers, but there were times when he didn't have his powers and he still proved to be quite the survivor without them.
This guy doesn't understand what is the essence of superman and what makes him be the best superhero. It's not a matter of powers and neither a matter of capabilities, it is a matter of heart and humbleness.
While I, like everyone, love and respect Kevin Conroy, and while Batman is easily the best superhero, I think he’s wrong about Superman. I don’t think he understands the character, and what makes him so iconic/great.
I have to disagree with him somewhat about Superman being boring; certainly little about his character is necessarily interesting, or rather sophisticated, but the moral problems he presents because of his great power and serving as an archetypal hero really give him what he needs: inspiration to do what's right when you have the capacity to do wrong. That said, I am more partial to Batman because of his sheer sophistication as a character, his lack of superpowers in the face of superpowered foes etc.
Even though both of them lack any superpowers, they can still fight and defeat criminals including their worst enemies, the Joker and Green Goblin respectively
The biggest challenge for Superman is not kill someone by his mere touch , to not give in the temptation of being a god to always hold back and do the right thing
1. Both Batman and Superman routinely face threats commensurate with their respective power levels, so the 'he has no superpowers' argument is irrelevant. It would only matter if the two of them were the only superheroes in a world with no supervillains. And they have not been that for over eight decades. 2. Yes, Batman has 'issues,' but one of those 'issues' doesn't seem to be a lack of access to seemingly infinite money and resources. He was born into privilege, and his persona was born out of a highly rare traumatic event that the source of his privilege indirectly caused. So who, exactly, is the more 'relatable'? "Clark Kent has a boss. Bruce Wayne has a Butler." - Grant Morrison
And Superman is born with the privilege of being an advanced alien race that is god like in comparison over humans and his issues deride from the fact that his alien planet was destroyed It just all depends on how you tell their stories
I don’t think heroes have to be necassairly 100% relatable either, heroes are called heroes because they are larger than life people with strong morals who you can aspire to be. For me personally, reading about and seeing people, fictional or not, with so much Valor and incredible will to do the right thing and truly strive to be who they want to be makes me strive to imitate such aspirations. That’s why they are heroes, because they inspire us to be better
@@AK-Drakoin A fair point, although the ‘privilege’ you identify is unknown to young Clark until he is old enough to know better than to take advantage of it for personal gain; any advantage Superman is naturally given is only ever used to serve people who almost anyone else would simply dismiss as ‘inferior.’ The meaning of any good Superman story is the classic Spider-Man ‘With Great Power’ formula, to the power of ten. It’s more than simply post-trauma therapy; it’s a ‘Use What Gifts You Have to Do Good Unto Others’ scenario, which is pretty universally relatable. That’s real. And that’s meaningful, for all of us. And this is why the stupid ‘Superman is boring’ argument is nonsense to anyone who spends more than five minutes thinking about it.
@@benmarton7849 I was never arguing thinking in terms of “super man is boring” I just think it’s silly to say a character being privileged makes them less relatable or one is worst over the other since they (Superman and Batman) both have there own privileges. And you are right Superman uses his privilege with responsibility to do good yet so does Batman in that Bruce Wayne, depending on the version, funds a lot of programs throughout Gotham and even the justice league itself. I don’t think one character is better over the other period. It really just comes down to preference and I personally just prefer Batman and his collection of villains.
I disagree. One of the most iconic Superman speeches is the "world of cardboard" in the JLU show. I can relate to always having to hold back and restrain myself, to be the bigger man.
I love Kevin as a voice acting role model but I feel he's both biased to Batman and hasn't explored the good Superman stories like All-Star and Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow.
Superman should be written as a good person who never feels good enough. The duality of the character should come from the idea that he is capable of anything, physically, but mentally struggles with his place in the world and if he's really doing enough. There room for an entire arc in there about dedicating his whole life to saving the world, leaving no time for his personal life, slipping into depression and eventually learning to overcome that fear of not doing enough by trusting in people (like Bruce, Diana, etc.).
Honestly the main reason for me is that Superman is difficult to take care of. He’s Thor’s hammer basically. A lot of people just aren’t worthy to make people love Superman. The unworthy messed up his character for so long.
@@ssbashalot7324 It makes perfect sense. The woke crap that they put in the comics warped and broke superman's character. The newer comics are garbage with their woke, communist, and anti American propaganda. The Max Fletcher cartoons, the animated series, and old time radio shows were great.
I strongly disagree with Kevin on superman. I grew up with batman the animated series but he has the same misunderstandings that most people who have never taken the time to dive into superman have. Superman has many emotional conflicts throughout his stories and him being able to remain pure is not only interesting to read, but it's truly heartwarming how he comes down and just walks around and socializes with normal citizens in costume, not as a celebrity, but as a friend.
He's not wrong. 😅 Superman can be interesting when he has a good writer, but even with the best writer Superman still can't match Batman for complexity and intrigue. And I also like his comment about the Snyder Superman. Hardcore fans tend to deride that interpretation, but for me as someone who isn't really a big Superman fan, that was one of the few iterations I really responded to. (But Batman was still better! 😂)
@@TH3F4LC0Nx Superman in my opinion is at his most interesting when he completely loses it or is put in a hard situation, as thats when his values are put to the test and some pent up anger over constantly watching his own every move to not cause causilities when fighting usually bubbles up in these situations. his struggle is still interesting, because due to him being so strong he gets really powerful enemies attacking who he loves pretty often. You can call superman boringer all you like, but the fact is that some people prefer a character thats nice all the time due to the potential destructiveness of his powers teaching him humility, and who when he loses his cool he beats on even the strongest of DC like darkseid. I prefer batman personally, but there were times when superman stories made me doubt that decision. Superman is at his best when powerless, those stories show the real reason why hes amazing, similar to captain america before the super soilder serum. He constantly proves to the world that hes not a threat, despite the fact that if he existed in real life the whole world would be afraid(the boys with homelander is a good example) if he did even something small out of line with his powers. Its the fact that hes such a goody-two-shoes and doesn't crack under that pressure and just force whoever doesn't like him to bow down(like in injustice) and continues protecting these people anyways against threats even stronger than him that proves superman is just that good. He also can't save everyone, so his casualty counts always skyrocket whenever he fights said threat(doomsday, darkseid etc).
I think he can but Batman is very simple since his story is in a way relatable with the only not relatable thing is his enormous wealth. But Superman is the ultimate superhero. His tragedy is even deeper than Batmans but he has made a choice and therefore he is more of an ideology driven person with an enormous strength and lets face it way more intelligent than all the others. It is explained in some comics since it must be a matter of fact that his neurons are also superfast so he is more or less a quantum computer. They removed that in later comics to even the field especially for Batman and also Lex. But it must be a fact just watching the physiology of Superman. He could act like Mr Manhattan but he does not do that. To explore that part is the most interesting with Superman. To nudge him, his ideology and awake his lonelyness that must be lurking underneath. To see us humans as aliens and to doubt his own morals.
This is the problem. Everyone thinks Superman has no problems and he is boring. That's because all movies have done a piss poor job of capturing the hidden layers of Superman. There is so much about Superman that is complicated. In some ways it's much more complicated than Batman. It's so sad how people don't really understand Superman or how complex his character he really is.
Batman is a incredible study on psychological issues, even his rogue's gallery are not black and white and have mental issues that makes you empathize with them, Kevin can bring all this nuances in his work in a character that tries so hard to be unemotional.
It's the same reason why he has some of the best comic book villains. Had some shallow ones to be sure, but in a lot of comics you get a one-note villain who has a ridiculous, almost childish motivation. But in Gotham almost all of the headliners are the way they are because they had hard lives and became obsessive and deranged, they're like mirror images of Batman.
I mean I understand where he’s coming from but superman has a lot more problems than what people think. And he’s not boring Batman has always been annoying to me superman will always be my number one
I always thought Batman was the most inspiring of all superheroes because he willing to go any length to do the right thing and save people good and bad, through sheer will power and dionesium his body has simulated super powers to cope with his activities purely from his resolve, I didn't know my favorite version of him thought him to be a dark man with issues
He's a human in a world of gods that manages to stand out. He could be killed by anyone he fights so there's always that stake while superman is perfection, he has no flaws or faults and is an unstoppable force, nothing about him is relatable in my opinion. In almost every given scenario superman is the strongest being around while batman isn't. Bruce gets hurt, he makes mistakes and he loses just like all of us and is using his batman persona to try distance himself from his own trauma which is also something a lot of people do, put on a mask to try convince yourself everything is fine and you're in control when in reality you aren't.
Okay, but an important thing to keep in mind is that Superman isn't enjoyable because one can see themself in him. It's about how one can look up to him for guidance and a feeling of security like he's a parent. I know it's cliche but Superman legitimately inspires me to try to be a better person. Even if it's just trying to be nicer and more understanding of others. If Superman can be exposed to the absolute worse that humanity has to offer, yet still come out with faith in the compassion of others then I can too. And much like one's parents, Superman isn't perfect. He can be stubborn as hell, and he CAN be wrong sometimes. There are moments when he's tempted to stop trying. To give up on being the bigger man and just kill Luthor or the Joker. But he stops because he knows that he's supposed to be the best of all of us. He's the shining example everyone is supposed to live up to. He's Superman. And he would rather die than let anyone down. But he does let people down. So many. Despite his speed and strength, he can't save everyone. The external conflict isn't "Will Superman survive?" it's "Will he save everyone?" (Also, not to say there are no physical threats. There are a lot, actually. Superman doesn't fight just guys with regular guns. He's bled from really strong guys just punching him.) Batman is typically more physically vulnerable but emotionally? The dude tends to close off his emotions quite a lot. (Not saying he's an emotionless husk but the guy's a detective who specializes in homicide. He kinda needs to block out the emotions.) Superman wears his heart on his sleeves. He feels EVERY death. He sees every dead body and immediately thinks "I could have saved you." Because he's Superman, he's supposed to save everyone. But Superman with his senses can hear EVERYONE in the world. All those people need saving but he can only save so many. His entire life is a Trolley Problem. Despite his best efforts, millions still die every day. Yet he still keeps trying to save all of them. Sorry, I went on a bit of a rant there. I wanted to briefly explain why I loved Superman but my fingers just kept on typing.
Superman gets dumped on a lot because yeah, he "doesn't have it that bad" and "he has powers." The All-Star Superman book (I think?) suggests it's not so great because even though he's clearly stronger than humans, he doesn't know his real limits. People ask him to fly through a volcano to stop an eruption, and he's thinking to himself "I've never done that before. What if that's what it takes to kill me?" The audience know he's only weak against Kryptonite, but he doesn't know that himself. He doesn't know if he's impervious to all builets, or just the small ones. Every single time someone throws something new at him, he's constantly wondering if he's actually going to get hurt and die. Batman knows his limits and fights on anyway; Superman literally never knows if his powers are going to run out, and fights on anyway. That was my favorite take on Superman so far.
I'd argue Superman is more interesting than Batman because he's who we should want to be like and always has the weight on his shoulders, but still smiles and tries to do the right thing. Batman as a character never seems to really get over his issues and hes less realistic than Superman with the amount of skills he has as a normal human.
I only got into superman a few years back, I understand the appeal, but yea Batman is much better. I prefer more complex characters. For example another good messed up character is the punisher, the darker the character the better, because it's not just about the grittiness, it's about their motivations, how they see the world, what makes them tick, and knowing that underneath all the darkness that there is a good soul underneath, a soul that just wants to protect what they love, and fight for the defenseless. Characters like these, in my opinion, become the voice of the voice the voiceless, and what makes them more intriquing is the fact that they could exist in the real world. I'm glad I gave other comic companies a chance, I used to read nothing but marvel, but every character, from every company has something to offer, except rob liefields characters, they don't.
Absolutely spot on mate. I feel the same way with villains for example. Like Vader only wanted to protect Padme, but he became something so much worse, but there were hints of Anakin if one paid attention to the details.
@@mgood356 you misunderstood, I never actually said that, I said that I preferred Batman, I just explained why I liked superman too, but I prefer Batman all the way, so chill man, don't get so mad over fictional characters.

No ones reading all that
I know right. Zack Snyder tried to explore that realistically, and half the fanbase couldn't handle it.
@@awakenow7147 Zack Snyder couldn't explore his own living room.
Kevin Conroy will always be the voice of Batman to me. He just gets the character.
the same way Mark Hamill gets the joker.

Exactly. I always read any Batman line in a comic in his Batman voice, unless it’s an early career Batman

@Engineer. Basically never
I adore Conroy, but I couldn’t disagree more.
BORING. He lost me when he said, "He has no problems." Very primitive deconstruction of the character of Superman. Much respect to Kevin though ❤️
He wouldn't rise to the top and become a god because that's not who he is just like how your average joe wouldn't sell drugs and potentially make more money because that's not who they are.

The older u get the more u understand what a great super hero he is
I like how his voice is about the same just not gravelly. I enjoy hearing his thoughts.
Kevin Conroy, it was destiny for you to be the voice of Batman. You are the reason I had a great childhood, because I was always watching Batman!
Try arguing that with Batman fans (I know I've tried), and it becomes like this:
"He is Batman"
"Yeah, but-"
"He, is, Batman"
"Yeah, but Batman can't-"
"He is the Batman"
"Its doesn't make any sense how he-"
"Because he's Batman"
"No, he shouldn't, because logically-"
"He's the God damn Batman".
I will admit, I've been a fan of Kevin Conroy as Batman for 30 years now, and Tim Daly as Superman for 26 years, and they both nailed their roles perfectly. George Newbern, as good as he is, is no Tim Daly.
The best Batman ever.
He's right about all of that. But, if you want to see a well-written version of Superman, then watch the Smallville TV series because they actually made his character interesting there. The escalation was steady, the character development was good for most of the characters (although I admit some of them, like Lana, were lacking), and it did a good job of humanizing Superman - which is the point of his character.
Somebody saaave me!
I'm a little surprised Kevin Conroy understands Batman so well but Superman so little, if you don't mind my putting it bluntly.
Batman wins because
He is Batman
He wins cause of plot armor
"I got the best one!!" my heart...!! 😭😭😭💔I miss him so much!! 💔
That's my favorite monologue from all of Tarantino's movies.
Superman was never “too OP” to began with. Faces wayy more problems and struggles than Batman as both Clark Kent and superman tbh.
He is definitely not lucky, he's talented. When people think of Batman's voice they either think of the over the top Christian Bale voice or Kevin's PERFECT voice
I fucking love Batman.
I love fucking Batman
Love Im fucking batman
@@SeniorNugglet bro 💀
It's great seeing how much he still seems to appreciate having played the character, even if this is a few years ago now. Some people regardless of how lucky they may have thought they were originally can become jaded.
This guy's voice could melt hardened steel
Even when he speaks naturally, I can hear Batman if listened well
I like you Kevin but Superman is not as boring as you think.
Exactly why Batman and Spider-Man are the two most liked superheros imo, the struggle is what makes them relatable, and admirable above all else.
The sheer disrespect Superman is getting is getting out of hand
This
Even though both of them lack any superpowers, they can still fight and defeat criminals including their worst enemies, the Joker and Green Goblin respectively
Superman is right up there, too. He's literally the epitome of power with nobility and responsibility.
The biggest challenge for Superman is not kill someone by his mere touch , to not give in the temptation of being a god to always hold back and do the right thing
It’s really funny that Kevin Conroy says Superman’s so boring
No Mr. Conroy, *We* were lucky to have You even for a short Time.
And Superman is born with the privilege of being an advanced alien race that is god like in comparison over humans and his issues deride from the fact that his alien planet was destroyed
It just all depends on how you tell their stories
Kevin is awesome but he forgot that Batman is a rich detective super smart ninja, in most cases he doesn't need powers.
"What's the challenge for him?"
Plot armor
That makes no fucking sense.
@@ssbashalot7324 It makes perfect sense. The woke crap that they put in the comics warped and broke superman's character. The newer comics are garbage with their woke, communist, and anti American propaganda. The Max Fletcher cartoons, the animated series, and old time radio shows were great.
@@war13death That was superboy. A whole different character
No, we were lucky
Batman is my favorite superhero, and one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. Excellent words, Conroy.
Have you read All star Superman?
@@tarjeisellevoll257 You def be punching the heavy bag with that statement. 😂
"and Superman is... ya know... Square jawed"
Robert Pattinson has entered the chat
Batman is a incredible study on psychological issues, even his rogue's gallery are not black and white and have mental issues that makes you empathize with them, Kevin can bring all this nuances in his work in a character that tries so hard to be unemotional.
I’d love to hear him as an old daredevil
Everybody is gangsta until the master dubber explain his character.
It's the same reason why he has some of the best comic book villains. Had some shallow ones to be sure, but in a lot of comics you get a one-note villain who has a ridiculous, almost childish motivation. But in Gotham almost all of the headliners are the way they are because they had hard lives and became obsessive and deranged, they're like mirror images of Batman.
the other thing about Batman is that he is Possible, if someone had the money, time and training it’s possible to become like Batman.
I'll miss him 🥺
It’s been 30 years for Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman.
He's bled from really strong guys just punching him.)
Batman is typically more physically vulnerable but emotionally?
This man has nailed it! I really could care less for any of the DC characters bar Batman.
Same
They say Spider-Man is better than Batman but Superman is better than both
I'm surprised that Kevin thinks Superman's boring despite working on multiple episodes and movies with Superman that prove the contrary.

Legend
You obviously don’t read comics if you don’t think Superman isn’t complex
Superman isn't complex because he's not edgy great argument you got there
@@mgood356 you misunderstood, I never actually said that, I said that I preferred Batman, I just explained why I liked superman too, but I prefer Batman all the way, so chill man, don't get so mad over fictional characters.
