It doesn't feel like LOTR because it isn't LOTR... they changed all the lore, they changed the story, the only thing they kept were the names they ruined...
None of these films or series feel particularly like Lord of the Rings, neither are they faithful to the lore. That includes Jackson's trilogy. You aren't going to get Tolkien's decidedly rural and Edwardian sensibilities in any of these productions. That's not even a reasonable expectation.
There are far more useful things to critique about the show than its strict authenticity to the source material (or lack thereof). For one, it's just not written or directed very well.
@@g.lowenklee2268 The trilogy was at least respectfully trying to still capture the essence of Tolkien.

maybe its because im jaded already...but the cheap music buildup and attempts at rising the tension in the thriller felt so...artificial?
It's all very formulaic and played out
It reminds me of the parody trailer that The outer Worlds 2 made fun of.
It’s because it’s a trope, some time and time before this time.
All the brown noise made me feel like pooping, lol.
because it's the same sht music they use for all kind of movies like this
It is not possible to compare the Trilogy (the three films) with this series due to the following fact: the films respected the author.
Tolkien was a devout Catholic. If you boil down the faith to its prime themes/values 2 things are always present. 1) Service to others and 2) Redemption through sacrifice. Every major character in LoTR hits both these themes. Everything else is just pretty backgrounds and costumes. It's why modern Hollywood doesn't understand and can't reproduce.
This is true. In a more generic sense, Tolkien’s work exuded moral virtues and values and dichotomies between good and evil, and modern writers can’t replicate the greatness of these works because they (in a general sense, probably some do) have no moral virtues or values and believe in neither good nor evil and instead live in a gray sea of ambiguity where nothing has divine meaning.
Lord of the Rings is just our own lost revised history.
You could literally view it through the lens of ancient astronaut theory, and then everything makes sense.
Numenor is literally Atlantis. Elves and everything OTHER than humans are ALIENS. And they check out and disappear from literally EARTH for some unknown/said reason
Plus, the universe of lord of the rings takes place on actual earth. That’s revealed at the end of the story, when one of Aragorn’s descendants in the 17th century finds a way to make it to the undying lands.
It’s a popular story, because it’s the same one that’s been told over and over because it’s just our history given to us on the silver screen or in a book.
Tolkien also claimed that he based the Lord of the rings on old, lost and forgotten manuscripts, that he found in the basement of the University that he worked at that was supposedly our own LOST HISTORY.
You can say it was for marketing, but I do not believe so.
The same story is told over and over again. It’s told by every ancient culture around the world, as well as every favorite fantasy or sci-fi movie you have ever watched.
I hope people will wake up to this and know that the world you live in is truly stranger than fiction and utterly amazing.
@criticalcog6363 George Martin is not religious and made one of the best if not the best pieces of fantasy, earning a name as renowned as Tolkien. I guess he just doesn't exist in your eyes? Religion is important to include in writing because so many people are religious and it is so intertwined with history, but to assume someone can't write a good story because they don't follow the exact same set of morals as yours is quite ridiculous
@@nickm.4274 The issue isn't that you can't have good writing without religion. The issue is you can't adapt Tolkien's work without his moral themes and modern day Hollywood seems to hate all the morals Tolkien wanted to express.
@@nickm.4274A lot of the dialogue in the LOTR movies and parts of the Hobbit was taken word for word from Tolkien's books. Tolkien was an expert in the ancient sagas and old english and the rhythm and rhyme of those old languages. Its almost impossible for a modern writer to match that dialogue.
Martin's writing is uninspiring by contrast. Martin just doesnt have the majesty of Tolkien's words. And Martin's stuff is very derivative. There is no real comparison between the two writers. One is Mozart and the other is the woman who wrote 50 shades of Grey.

this is not tolkien's work, take it as an NSL sketch or cheap satire, they're making bad fanfic
RoP is NOT Tolkien. Its fan fiction based on Tolkien’s work
@@zeed33r
To the naysayers here, you think these people won’t one day sign off on Tolkien’s works being dramatically rewritten for modern audiences and only that version being reprinted or sold digitally?
Nothing is sacred or off limits to them. They’ll do absolutely anything to everything until society loses whatever is holding it back from going berserk.
@@Realdrlipschitz It's not fan fiction. It's hate fiction.
Lack of talent that's just what it is.
LotR Elves:
Very tall, graceful, mysterious, beautiful beings with long hair that talk calm, thoughtful in a sublime way with the wisdom of centuries of experience
RoP Elves:
Random people that are avarage hight, have short hair, talk either like impacient idiots that wanna see the manager, or try to fake appearing wise and thoughtful while saying utter nonsense, only differing to normal idiot human beings by glued on elve ears
The problem is that Lord of the Rings is one of, if not the greatest fictional story ever written, and the fact that Amazon is using that property to make a show that is painfully mediocre if not really bad. It’s just insulting when you look at the source material. Tolkien was an absolute genius who spent his whole life perfecting the world of LOTR to be exactly the way he wanted it to be, and Amazon just comes in and does what they want with it, rather than paying respect to the man who made it.
The music they are using in these trailers and behind the scenes is horrendously bombastic, it's so Avengers-esque.
Then he puts on the ROTK trailer and it's just the haunting singing of the Elves. Something which conveys real emotion and is appropriate for what is being shown, even when it cuts to the epic battles, the music remains subtle.
The Marvelization of Entertainment.
100% agree, I hope that this like trash music is just for the trailers. Cuz man that would truly ruin the mood for me. I have a fools hope that season 2 will redeem itself kind of like wheel of time did. But we'll see
I think the two towers trailer is better and it was pretty heavy with the epic music, but they prolly just used it better
The horrible 'Transformer fart' sound they make at the beginning of every trailer now gets so old.
Galadriel already stared down a volcano, have her stare down the wave and save Numenor.

I actually disagree with Asmon's take that having a black dwarf/elf isn't an issue. It shows that the creators fundementally don't understand or respect the world and rules of Tolkien's Middle Earth. The change wasn't made because it enhances the story - it was made for political reasons. The ironic thing is Disa was actually one of the more likeable characters because eveyone else was so fucking unlikeable or boring.
There's a reason these things correspond with low quality character writing.

Anyone else think its weird they used 'darkness will bind them' when it should be more of the ring doing it, cause its 'one ring to rule them all and in the darkness bind them' so its not really just darkness doing the binding but the ring.
Yeah, the Ring is to keep them in the darkness, the darkness is the destination.
They should put guyladriel when they show that phrase cuz someone was definitely binding her chest up harder this season. She's flatter than s1. You could surf or iron your clothes on her.

It's a Jeff Bezos vanity project. He's a massive Tolkien fan and wanted a Game of Thrones of his own on Prime video. Profits are irrelevant in this case.

Aragorn definitely gives off a more super human vibe though were introduced to him as strider and thus see him in a state of a distrusted lone man at a bar with a ragged appearance. His transformation and growth into becoming the superhuman figure he becomes is a result of his continued selflessness and good actions.
@brydonthunder well Gandolf is symbolic of Jesus so....
@@iguran6035 They're neither regular folks nor supeheroes. At some point Dungeons & Dragons got heavily influenced by comic books and pushed the power scale off the charts. Which isn't a bad thing if you want to offer your characters a way to progress from nobodies to heroes and eventually to superheroes or even gods, depending how far you want to push it and what kind of experience you're looking for. When most people think of fantasy they might have that style in mind. But this has nothing to do with Tolkien's heroes. Some are regular folks, some are immortal beings, but they're all bound to hard limits. Except for the wizards.
Remember how powerful was Legolas in the movies? That's just a standard 3rd age Elf, strong Elves killed balrogs and even injured a valar (god) 1v1, so yeah, Sauron would be in big trouble if he had to fight for his life.
Yet the irony is that you can cut legless from the movies, and nothing changes...
He couldn't even shoot down the berserker in the two towers...
I don't even remember him having much to do in the books
@@Keln02 Come to think of it...
Gimli was responsible for Moria. Aragorn was Aragorn. Merry and Pippin played their part in the fangorn forrest. Sam literally carried the whole thing.
WTF did Legolas do that had any impact on the story?
Edit: love the answers. Keep them coming 😂😂
@@bananasaur5209 he was helpful in the pursuit for Merry and Pippin... kinda
@@Keln02 He saw stuff that was really far away and shit
@@bananasaur5209 He told Aragorn where they're taking the hobbits to.
Also, he slid down stairs with a shield as he fire arrow on the way down like it's some tony hawk skater pro game.
i want an animated lotr where they stick as close to the books as possible.
This is for Bernard Hill, who played Théoden. RIP 😢
“Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!
Death! Deeeeeeeath! Deeeeeeeeeeeaaaath!
Forth Eorlingas!”
