The problem is that Lord of the Rings is one of, if not the greatest fictional story ever written, and the fact that Amazon is using that property to make a show that is painfully mediocre if not really bad. It’s just insulting when you look at the source material. Tolkien was an absolute genius who spent his whole life perfecting the world of LOTR to be exactly the way he wanted it to be, and Amazon just comes in and does what they want with it, rather than paying respect to the man who made it.

THIS! I saw an article on my phone about the trailer, so the trailer played mutely as I read the article. And when it showed Galadriel & the others with the camera circling around them, I was like "oh no. It's the Avengers camera spin. why." I personally love the 1st Avengers film, but I despise how everything now has the 'Avengers team-up/camera circle' shot inserted into media for main characters. Not everything needs the same filming style. My mind just immediately goes: STOP. IT. Same for your comments on the trailers. I used to love trailers - even if the tv show or movie or whatever wasn't great, I loved the trailers & loved rewatching the trailers. I recently watched Miyazaki's "The Boy & the Heron" in the theatre with my aunt & uncle, so obviously there were trailers. All of us felt nothing with the trailers. The movie was incredible, but we all agreed the trailers didn't make us care at all about them or want to watch. I actually disagree with Asmon's take that having a black dwarf/elf isn't an issue. It shows that the creators fundementally don't understand or respect the world and rules of Tolkien's Middle Earth. The change wasn't made because it enhances the story - it was made for political reasons. The ironic thing is Disa was actually one of the more likeable characters because eveyone else was so fucking unlikeable or boring.
It doesn't detract from the story, at least the dwarf part, so it's a non-issue. The character is a good character and the actress is very charismatic, so it's fine. The problem is that it's bad. Nothing more than that. All adaptations make changes.

None of these films or series feel particularly like Lord of the Rings, neither are they faithful to the lore. That includes Jackson's trilogy. You aren't going to get Tolkien's decidedly rural and Edwardian sensibilities in any of these productions. That's not even a reasonable expectation. There are far more useful things to critique about the show than its strict authenticity to the source material (or lack thereof). For one, it's just not written or directed very well.

What bothers me the most in both RoP and Star Wars is that writers seem to want to make that world in their own view instead of staying true to tthe source material and portraying that story and telling that story. We now get shows that want to do their own thing and use the source material as a general guideline and it absolutely sucks. I wouldn't care so much about the stupid stuff as forced diversity if the actual story was good. This is why I do really like the Hobbit movies. Yeah the story got stretched to make a lot of money and it got rushed but in the end it is still telling the same story that was written by Tolkien for the most part. Rop is just scfratching everything and mixing up timelines and filling itself with endless LotR references because the studio/writers are so afraid that their own story isnt good enough (ironically) that they feel that as long as they put enough easter eggs in there we are going to think it is good. It's a Jeff Bezos vanity project. He's a massive Tolkien fan and wanted a Game of Thrones of his own on Prime video. Profits are irrelevant in this case.

Ackshually, Sauron was beaten by an elf in the past. She was even a strong female but she was also half Maiar which may have helped. But aside from her there were 2 more elves who beat Balrogs. The first was Ecthelion who was losing to a balrog called Gothmog, who was basically the equal of Sauron and the left hand man of Morgoth, but still managed to take him down with him. Then there's Glorfindel who killed a Balrog but the Balrog took Glorfindel down with him. So Maiar are killable by powerful elves, not to mention all the unnamed balrogs who died during all the wars. Idk if Glorfindel could kill Sauron but Glorfindel freshly returned from Aman with a couple elf friends probably could. Some humans probably could too, like Turin Turambar, who killed Glaurung the father of all dragons, who commanded balrogs and singlehandedly broke the siege on Angband, so he's probably on par with a top tier Maiar at the very least. But Turin Turambar was literally the greatest human warrior ever so I doubt any human after him could stand up to Sauron. Ironically enough one of the few people who would have a shot is Galadriel. The Silmarillion makes a big deal about having seen Aman, and Galadriel was born there, not to mention she has royal blood, making her one of the most powerful elves in Middle Earth at the time, although not in the dumb brute way the show presents her as.
To be fair, in the Silmarillion his return is just like that and the Numenor sink is basically "What is this Sauron dude? Let's beat his a$$" to "Wait... He is handsome. He is a Gigachad. Let's take him with us... Ohhh Nooo! The evil dude is evil".

Great comparison. One thing that (among many) really jumps out is the quality of actors in the trilogy. Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Christopher Lee; all very distinguished actors even before the movies came out (well maybe not Viggo so much).
It really makes you realize that while styles can change (2005 trailers aren't like 1970 trailers), there is an art & creativity to media & promoting media. Whether tv/film/videogames/etc. and that seems to be getting lost with so much material now. I don't get interested seeing stuff like this anymore. Some videogames still & Electric Entertainment (like Dean Devlin with "Almost Paradise", "Leverage Redemption" etc.) will draw me in. But the other stuff? I just don't care.
100% agree, I hope that this like trash music is just for the trailers. Cuz man that would truly ruin the mood for me. I have a fools hope that season 2 will redeem itself kind of like wheel of time did. But we'll see
I think the two towers trailer is better and it was pretty heavy with the epic music, but they prolly just used it better
The horrible 'Transformer fart' sound they make at the beginning of every trailer now gets so old.

There's a reason these things correspond with low quality character writing.
It doesn't detract from the story, at least the dwarf part, so it's a non-issue. The character is a good character and the actress is very charismatic, so it's fine. The problem is that it's bad. Nothing more than that. All adaptations make changes.
@natanaellizama6559 disagree. Making changes for an exceptional actor is fine. Making changes for dei reasons is lore altering and shows low respect for the world. Imagine doing it with white ethnicities.

People hate on this show too much. One good season can change everyone's mind.
It is an insult to our collective intelligence and a stain on the legacy of Tolkien (and George Lucas)

They should put guyladriel when they show that phrase cuz someone was definitely binding her chest up harder this season. She's flatter than s1. You could surf or iron your clothes on her.

All those elves were Noldor from the 1st age that had come directly from Valinor. By the second Age their power had diminished
Somehow, Sauron returned...with pointy ears

So much potential, so much money, I want it to be better, but I know for certain it won't be. The first series wasnt a "miss", it was exactly what they wanted to make and they will make the same thing again.
The early 2000s had the best movie franchises. Everything was great. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter. It was such a good time to be a kid. Today's kids are really missing out. Everything today is just corporate schlock force fed to consumers
Remember when Disney would make an amazing movie, then make 2-3 straight to VHS movies with B-D tier voice actors and everything felt phoned in? Yeah..: that’s what this is…
I miss the old days, when they made one movie every 20 years, and rarely let anyone watch them.
They're straight up swiping shots from Peter Jackson because they failed so badly last season.
I an glad we finally have an answer to “can this piece of trash get even worse?”… sadly, it can!
Billy May's: But wait, there's more!
Knowing its worse than season 1 without seeing it, what are you nostradameus, no your just a hater nothing more. If you dont like it dont watch or talk about it watch something else and spare us your whining
@@SmiloRen it’s called Inference. He formed a conclusion based on previous evidence and facts. Just because you may have no clue of what that looks like it doesn’t mean others don’t (hint: it’s what helps most of us make decisions). Regarding the whining part it’s seems your even worst, you’re basically whining that he’s whining. Either let him vent his grief or move on, nothing worse than someone who thinks they know what should be important to others (and yes, you know you came here just to whine and make others feel inept)
@@Fynorios inference. No they had made there mind up they hated it when it was concieved nothing less
That lady as Princess Disa could not have been a worse casting.
On the black dwarf example. The "black dwarf" isn't the disease. It's just a symptom. By itself it wouldn't be a problem if the show was good.
Yea wtf can elves do against Sauron, a maiar...yet a minute before you were drooling over the Fingolfin vs Morgoth fight, an even larger extreme, elf vs Valar. There were some badass heroes back then.
Yeah, the top elves were spiritually powerful beings. Much like in the Fellowship of the Ring book where Glorfindel reveals his power against the Ringwraiths.
The Second Age Elven kingdoms and heroes were nowhere near the might of the First Age ones.
@@LeftJoystickDwindling and traveling to the West.
I still have my movie ticket stub from when I saw Return of the King back in 2003. Such a good trilogy.
Fuck this show. Don't let the pretty visuals fool you again.
Apart from the landscape shots (which are usually rather nice), the rest of the show looks amazingly cheap from the costumes to the props. Even the dwarven ring of power looks misshapen and shitty, like something you'd get out of a vending machine.
Don’t be concerned the first episode will do incredible with hate watches then the show will fall into an endless abyss
@@thetrashcanman7537 You're absolutely right. EVerybody gotta get paid on youtube too.
Every frame where characters are not shown from the front looks fine. The moment any character face is visible it makes it look like a fan base...
Like a YT movie
LOTR had poise and dignity much like Tolkien. The difference in sheer class even between the trailers is eye opening.
