  • One of my most anticipated adventure games of 2021 was Saint Kotar, developed by Red Martyr Entertainment, a small Croatian indie studio, and published by SOEDESCO in late October of that year. It’s a Kickstarter game that was successfully funded in July 2020, raising over €50,000, or nearly $57,000. Saint Kotar is a psychological horror and detective point & click adventure game with heavily religious themes and Lovecraftian elements. It was also advertised on its Kickstarter page as an atmospheric story- and choice-driven adventure game with two switchable characters, both with their own inner demons and conflicts.
So, how did the full game turn out? Did Red Martyr Entertainment manage to deliver and meet my admittedly high expectations as a Kickstarter backer? My name is Siperos and these are my thoughts on Saint Kotar.

I was enjoying this game a lot early on due to the mystery and tension. The Arsen and his "child" sub-plot was cool horror writing, and the brothers were interesting characters. I think Benedek is quite a nasty person, so I actually didn't mind if he had a horrible fate. His step-brother was much easier to sympathetise with. Actually, I even came to like Viktoria more than Benedek, from what we found out about her along the way. The story did become a bit disappointing though, due to the meandering and confused plot.
