Let's Play 3 Minutes to Midnight (Blind) - Part 3: Hairy Situation
Marco of the town mob has not only 'confiscated' Linda's toolbox that we need to fix the generator at the park as per the mayor's, our mother's, request, but also been intimidating townsfolk elsewhere, including at Mike's Diner. We also try to enter the Beer Sliding Contest by challenging one of the patrons, John Slim. Who seem to be way too fixated on his hair.

Let's Play 3 Minutes to Midnight (Blind) - Part 2: Oppressed by the Barber Mob!

We sneak inside the town hall to talk to the mayor who turns out to be our mother! Naturally, like everyone else, she had lost her memories too and doesn't remember her own daughter. She needs our, or more specifically Linda's, help in repairing the antenna's generator at the park. But unfortunately the local town mob with whom Linda has an abusive contract with confiscated her toolbox and we n...

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to a new let’s play! My name is Siperos and this is 3 Minutes to Midnight! My Thoughts On Return to Monkey Island
Переглядів 20821 годину тому
Before the April of 2022 I'd have never dared to believe that Ron Gilbert would ever get to make another Monkey Island game. But then, on April Fools’ Day of all days, Gilbert casually announced that he decided to make another Monkey Island game, which he along with Dave Grossmann had worked on in secret for two years. The game soon came out in September of the same year developed by Ron Gilber...
Let's Play Conscript (Blind) - Part 20: The Wounds of War (Finale)

With Pierre found and the reinforcements having arrived thanks to the message we sent via the pigeon it's time to put up our final stand against the Germans assaulting Fort de Vaux again before we can take our brother out of here! We may have survived the Battle of Verdun and saved Pierre, though he was left with a permanent reminder of the battle, but the mental wounds of war will still linger...

Not gonna lie folks; I get bit of stuck in this episode as I'm not sure where to go or what to so next. I even go all the way back to the trenches only to discover something surprising. At least we'll acquire two new weapons thanks to my thorough exploration. Then I rediscover the hole I had forgotten all about, leading us to the other side of the basement level. I swear the further we delve in...

While looking for any clues of Pierre we keep exploring the guts of the hellish fort of Vaux, currently occupied by Germans as their headquarters. So far no sight of our brother but we do make progress by finding keys and unlocking many doors and, of course, fighting of the boche. Twitter: siperos1?lang=fi&lang=fi&lang=fi&lang=fi

Now that we've got the key to the German stronghold and command post, Fort de Vaux, we can finally infiltrate in and find our missing brother, Pierre, who is probably being held as a war prisoner there by the boche. Slowly working my way through these when I need to relax. I played these on a 486 with my older brother driving and me and my younger sister all trying to figure out the puzzles. We were all under 13 years old.. it took us months! Seeing someone experience these puzzles for the first time hits some weird nostalgic note. Cheers

    I thought the game was good, not great. Until I stepped through the door after the final puzzle. I immediately realized what was going on and just sat there, looking at my screen in disappointment for a solid minute before moving again. I always applauded Curse for correcting the meta ending of Monkey 2 and just framing the game back to nothing more than a wannabe pirate in a pirate world. But Return tries to destroy that narrative in favor for the MI2 ending all over again. I realize this is what Ron had in mind already back in MI1 with the grog machine and pirates on melee commenting that Guybrush should just "play along" but that side never clicked for me. Never felt original, witty or interesting.

    Two things first: Firstly, I have been an avid point & click adventure enthusiast from the very beginning and have been loyal to the genre for more than 35 years. Secondly, I haven't played any adventure games without voice acting since the early 90s. Without it, I miss an essential audiovisual experience in an adventure game. And almost more importantly for me, I have been playing these games for years with my wife (also a genre fan) in the living room on the big screen. This only works with voice output and subtitles... I bought Nightmare Frames anyway and played it alone. Why? Because I like the detective, horror & mystery genre, because I have a weakness for retro and pixel art and because the reviews of Nightmare Frames were mostly very good. Now that I've played through it, I'll venture a judgement. The pros: + the story is exciting and leaves you wanting more + there are some really creepy scenes and jumpscares. + The music is great and consists of many chillwave and dreampop original compositions that wonderfully support the 1980s nostalgia and create a David Lynch-like atmosphere through the often spherical, filtered sound. + The sound effects and ambient sounds are solid. + The character portraits in the dialogues are excellently drawn and clearly stand out from the rest of the graphics. They are somewhat reminiscent of archetypes or mixtures of faces from various stars and well-known personalities (but never in such a way that it is completely obvious). + There are lots of Easter eggs and lovingly researched information and references for fans of 1980s Hollywood and the horror genre. Ambivalent: ~ The characters are a little thinly developed, especially supporting secondary characters. More background and substance would have been good. ~ The controls/UI are solid, but lack some of the features you'd expect from today's adventure games. You often have to search the screen like in the old days... ~ The game is very much split into 3 very different individual parts. Negative - I find the graphics and animation to be rather below-average adventure game studio fare. There are also only a few cutscenes. Definitely a weak point for me. - The puzzles are mostly weak and occasionally seem contrived. - The game is very linear. - And: The elephant in the room. There is no voice cast! Conclusion Overall, I liked Nightmare Frames and I have the feeling that we will see more good titles from the developers in the future. I would particularly emphasise the creepy factor and the good music. The game seems heavily inspired by David Lynch, John Carpenter and Ryan Murphy's & Brad Falchuk's American Horror Story franchise - which I like. It still can't quite keep up with my favourite titles from this particular genre (point & click + pixel art + mystery horror detective), such as Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers, Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars, Unavowed, Blackwell Deception and Blackwell Epiphany. But it's still a good and, for an independent low-budget production, amazing game that fits perfectly into the ranks of my second favourite titles in the genre, which include The Excavation of Hob's Barrow, Unusual Findings, Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice. I'm looking forward to the developers' next title. An English Haunting is due to be released soon. Unfortunately without voice acting again though! I really hope that the studio will soon have enough success and money for a good voice cast...

  • @marmeladenfreund
    @marmeladenfreund 6 місяців тому

    Thanks for the very good and informative game review! As a fan from the very beginning, I think it's great that there is currently such a lively independent scene in the point & click adventure genre. Nightmare Frames looks promising and interesting in many ways. I like adventure games with a good story and well written characters. And I appreciate both the detective mystery and horror genres. But I am also extremely spoilt. The benchmarks for me are games like Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers, Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars, Blackwell Deception, Blackwell Epiphany, Unavowed, The Excavation of Hob's Barrow and even Shadow of the Comet (the latter despite the appalling UI and the unforgiving difficulty level with lots of dead ends). But what do all these games from the 1990s to today have in common: yes, voice acting and a good cast of voice actors. I've only played adventure games with voice acting for decades. Because it adds a lot to the atmosphere and is a more holistic experience. My wife and I also traditionally like to play adventure games together on the big Screen in the living room. This only works well if the games have voice output and you don't have to rely on reading the small on-screen text (and always have to negotiate whether the other person has already read the text before you click on). In other words: Nightmare Frames won't give us that gaming experience. But maybe I will buy it anyway. Because I'm a notorious collector and would like to support and encourage the developers...
